Chapter V
The Oath
Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi contacted the Jedi temple informing them of what he had learned. They told him to capture Jango Fett and bring him in front of the Jedi Council. Obi-Wan came outside lightsaber in hand. Jango Fett fired a blaster bolt but Obi-Wan sent the bolt back. Suddenly the ship fired a major bolt which knocked the lightsaber out of Obi-Wan's hand. He then charged and kicked the blaster out of Jango Fett's hand. The two began a fist and kicking fight. Finally Obi-Wan fell off the roof. This bounty hunter was good. But he wasn't good enough. Obi-Wan threw a rope with a hook at the end. It caught hold of the banister of a balcony permitting him to swing to the balcony just under it. Coming to the top roof only to find the ship was taking off he threw a tracking device.
Anakin had his eyes closed. Padmé realizing that he was concentrating turned to leave. "No don't go." He said. "Your presence is invigorating." She came closer and said, "You had a nightmare last night." He answered, "Jedi don't have nightmares." She was quick to respond, "I heard you." Anakin turned to her and said, "I was dreaming about my mother. I should go to her. I know I should stay and protect you but I need to go." /spanspan lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"Padmé Amidala surprised herself by saying, "Take me with you." Anakin went to Tatooine with the Senator. They came to the slave owner had owned Anakin. "Where is my mother?" Anakin demanded. The flying creature looked surprised for a moment then said, "Anakin what a surprise. A Jedi you became." Lowering his voice he said, "Maybe you could help with certain people who owe me back money." Anakin asked a second time, "Where is my mother?" The other answered, "I sold her. You know business is business. It was a man and they say he freed her and in exchange she married him." Anakin asked again this time more forcibly, "Where is she?" He answered, "Come lets look at my record
Obi-Wan was following the bounty hunter with a ship for all that it was worth. Suddenly Jango saw him and shot out a magnetic stun. But Jedi Kenobi was too fast and easily dogged it. Jango said, "He doesn't take a hint does he?" He then fired a missile at Obi-Wan's ship. Obi-Wan tried to doge it but could not. "R4 throw some stuff overboard." Then just when the droid did it he landed on an asteroid. Jango not seeing him on his scanner said, "There he must be dead."
Anakin and Padmé arrived at a stone house just the kind you would expect in a desert place like Tatooine. In front of the house was a protocol droid at work. "Hello I'm…" Anakin finished the sentence; "3PO" C3PO was for a moment totally stunned. Then he exclaimed, "My maker. Why, you've grown." Anakin asked, "Where is my mother?" C3PO faltered and said, "We should go inside." Whatever it was that made C3PO so unstable Anakin didn't like it. A couple appeared from within the house, "Hi I'm Owen and this is my girlfriend Beru we've heard a lot about you." The young Padawan was getting anxious. "Where is my mother?" He asked again. The response came from behind the couple. "She's not here." The couple broke and in-between the two of them passed a man in a wheelchair. He extended his hand and said, "Name is Lars. Come inside we need to talk." Lars talked alright. "She was collecting mushrooms early that morning. From the tracks she left she must have gotten there alright. But on the way back… It was tusken raiders. They took her. That was a month ago." Anakin tried to regain his composure. But all he could do was stop himself from crying. He then got up. "I can feel her. I'll go get her." As he went out to a speeder bike Padmé came out. He turned to face her and said, "Stay here. These are good people. I'll come back soon." Then he got on his speeder bike and rode off. He finally got to the raider's camp. Walking in using the Force to get in the camp he then cut a circle in the tent then went in. His mother was tied to a pole in a sorry state. He untied her and she turned to see him, "Anie, you've grown up. I love you." Anakin said, "Mom I've come to get you." She continued her train of thought pretending not to notice what he said. There was a thing or two to talk about before she died. "Anakin you're becoming a Jedi. Promise me you will be a good Jedi always." Anakin said, "I promise mom I promise." Then she took her last breath. Anakin took her and put her on his speeder bike. Then they roared away. The next day the two of them arrived to the house Shimon and Lars owned. Anakin then got off the speeder taking his mother's body off of it. He then carried it to a room prepared for it.
Obi-Wan sneaked up trough a factory. There he saw the owner of the Trade Federation talking with Count Duku leader of the Separatist. "I won't sign until Padmé Amidala is dead." The Trade Federation leader said. Count Duku answered, "I assure you everything is being done to make sure of that possibility." They passed into a room and Obi-Wan went to an opening in that room to hear what was being said, "Count Duku you can fully count on the Genosis troops." A high authority there said "The banking federation is willing to lend you money." Said its chief director. Count Duku smiled and said, "Good with such numbers the Jedi will be overwhelmed." The Jedi shuddered. This was a conspiracy to defeat the Senate and the Republic. He sneaked out the way he came in.
Padmé went to find Anakin. She found him at work in mechanics. "Things are always so simple when you fix things." Then he burst into tears. "Padmé touched him on the shoulder. He turned to her. "I wanted to kill them all men, woman, children only one thing held me back." Padmé was shocked but managed to say, "What held you back?" Anakin said, "The oath I swore to my mother. She made me swear that I would be a good Jedi always. I should have saved her.""Padmé said, "You're not all powerful." He was about to answer when his mother oath passed through his mind. "I wish I was. Then I could stop people from dieing." Padmé was shocked, "Anakin!" He answered, "I thought much worse. But I held it back. This is going to be a difficult oath to keep."
