Hi Friends!
-blows the dust off the story while Severus gives her the look-
Welcome back to
The Last Heir
Yes, I know it has been so long since I have updated any of my stories, Long story short I lost both my parents this year and my muse just shut down for a bit. However, with the holidays coming I admit I needed a little bit of a distraction and here we are!
Now I will be honest I had to go back and reread this story to find a bit of my old muse and happily it worked so I have decided to continue with the story, however, just be aware that in the last crash of the computer the saved chapter I had disappeared, and I am going to be writing from scratch.
As promised this chapter is dedicated to Germaine Iz who granted this story its 30th review.
Now with the formalities concluded I bring you the long awaited.
Chapter 5 Diaries Of A Prince
Skydancinghobbit
"The mind is not a book, to be opened at will and examined at leisure."
Lady Snape was very intrigued by her sons' letters home, At first she was afraid given his rather…prickly personality the boy may have trouble making friends among his peers. The first line of his very first letter home put her mind entirely at ease.
"Mother it is with great pride I want to introduce my friends!"
She could almost hear the young lads emotions, like a eager retriever wagging its tail. a tone that he slipped into only in rare moments when exceptionally eager or happy about something, it brought a tear to her eye as she sat before the fire reading them aloud to the portraits. The best and fastest way to stay current with events His first missive was a 4 page slog of all things Hogwarts, classes people places and importantly who had received detention and why. . He positively gushed, well enthused about the three new friends, apparently there was some debate on what to call their group. Pack, Herd…attempted murder…. all had been floated by and the last officially earned them a detention with the very concerned defense professor until they gave her more context. After a relieved witch realized what they were discussing she wisely suggested a vote and debate they had settled on The Order of Corvis as an acceptable name. Lily had made them badges to be worn on the inside of their robes a copy of which Remus had thoughtfully sketched into one page of the 5th letter.
"Ah those clever birds!"
Not entirely certain weather to be overjoyed or horrified her son had earned detention in the first month of his schooling she did concede that the reason behind it could have been worse, there was no harm it finding a suitable group name after all, though she would have paid gallons to see the expression on the professors face when she heard the ideas out of context, His next letters had turned a good deal more academic as he was discovering a great love of potions and his uncle crowed with pride, it having been a family specialty for many generations. Now she spent more time than she would like to admit in the family library when a question about a certain ingredient and its uses came up. Apparently, the school library had gaps in their knowledge.
"Or perhaps they have it but know better then to hand it off to eager students who have more passion then sense about mixing things that might just explode"
It seemed his friends Remus agreed with her on the matter and a mother could rest a little easier knowing someone was keeping an eye on the over curious son of hers. That was until about halfway through his year when the Christmas holidays were coming upon them his letter made her jump up in some distress.
"Lily is very clever for a muggleborn I am unsure why the other purebloods look down on them, she is forever teaching me something new! Today we discovered a spell that will knock a bully out long enough to get away from them….if James Potter dares taunt her again I will try it!"
"P.S. May my friends come home with me for Christmas?"
Happy to agree to his request she had written to both families to get permission from the parents already and was thrilled to see him depart the train with a smile on his face trailed by his two friends. The red head holding a jar with a cheerful little ball of fire warming their hands as they followed her son over and she was pleasantly surprised by the hug he gave arms wrapped around her neck tightly a moment whispering in her ear " I missed you Mama" before he stepped back to formally introduce his friends.
"My lady mother. May I present Remus and Lily? My fellow members of The Order of Corvis!"
"You may indeed Severus! It is lovely to meet you both! Now come on lets get you all home where I think some cookies and hot cocoa wouldn't go amiss in this cold weather"
The radiant smiles on all their faces were reward enough as they each floo'd into the kitchen the staff welcoming the children with a cheer and several hugs before they escaped laughing to the library with the ravens cawing happily as they flew this way and that for sheer joy. Dagger finally landed on Remus's head eager to share in the snacks. Happily preening and nibbling on the bowl of bird snacks thoughtfully provided.
"So Sev, there is much to learn about your world…when can we start?"
Lily looked about eagerly, her green eyes sparling with mischief that caused both boys to groan theatrically. They knew that look. It was her all purpose I am going off to find what trouble I can find before lunch and I might need rescuing later but will never admit it look.
"Lil….we just got here….honestly can it wait until after lunch at least?"
Remus and Severus exchanged a look before the slighter boy turned all the charm, he owned into the biggest set of pleading puppy eyes the world had ever seen, neither of his friends had batted an eyebrow at the knowledge he was a were…they just took sensible precautions when he returned from his monthly vacation day. Snacks and kind words did wonders. Despite his condition the boy was positively thriving.
"Remus….no don't give me that look you know I can't stand it….the eyes…..like a soulful puppy….I okay fine! After lunch but then I am going to explore this place from the rafters to….well whatever counts as the last level….basement dungeon….don't care!
"Miss Evans if its history your after…perhaps I can assist your curiosity?"
His uncle had been listening to the exchange with keen interest waiting for the exact moment to share his thoughts. As she dove for her bag the boys scrambled off their chairs knowing she would be there captivated by his stories for the afternoon if he let her. Bidding the pair, a fond farewell, they escaped to the lawn behind the house where their broomsticks awaited them and the last thing Severus heard before he closed the door was a notebook opening and the words.
"Oh I would love that…erm….do you mind if I take notes?"
"Certainly, good lady, now shall we begin with the day I died?"
"Wicked….oh by all means!"
Grinning, he and Remus spent the afternoon practicing catching the snitch and when they landed at the lunch going Severus could not wipe the smile off his face. Sun beaming down on his friends through the high dining room windows as they met at the table His mother on the other side, all smiles as she dug into her meal listening happily as her son chatted with his friends.
It was good to be home!
Alright I admit it I needed a fluffy filler chapter before we get to the serious time jumps and the war and every that had to occur before our leading lady enters the story.
A belated happy thanksgiving to those that celebrate it with me.
If anyone is still reading this whomever grants this story its 40th review shall earn Chapter 6's dedication
