Berenyi's current employer waited for her to walk into his office and sit down before he broke out into a grin. "You did damn well, Berenyi!" He yelled, slamming a hand down on his desk like a madman. As he did so, the timeline inhibitor she'd given him before leaving which would allow him to retain some memory of her just in case, glinted. It was like a wrist-mounted travel dial. "You've done incredible work. Now I remember two different histories, but the new one is much better."

Berenyi smiled back, "I'm glad it worked out," she said sincerely.

She had given him the timeline inhibitor so that as time went on, he would retain both memories.

"Well, it definitely did," her client replied before he handed her six metallo-plastic bars. "Your payment."

Berenyi took them and smiled back gratefully. "Thank you."

"Did you have any problems with the work?"

"No, I just had to be careful," Berenyi replied.

"I wasn't expecting the Daleks, the wormhole, the flying saucers, and the Cybermen," the client went on, looking at her seriously, "what made you think of them?"

Berenyi blew out a breath, which caused her blonde hair to flutter. "When you told me to work on a sort of secret history, I knew it wouldn't work out; even if I Designed scientists living in Victorian and Edwardian times, periods before nuclear power, to work on the science and technology to make rockets possible, even a primitive one would be virtually impossible. The only thing that worked in my favour was alien spores carrying basic knowledge that gave a Victorian scientist the means to do it, so I didn't need to. I just needed to make sure the technology and the secrets were preserved and the humans could work it out for themselves. The wormhole idea came from watching a 21st-century movie, I just watched it, and my brain went 'What the hell?' And I always believed access to alien technology could only help."

"It certainly did; thanks to that Dalek technology, the invasion of Earth was nasty for the Daleks since historians easily dug up the information, and they fought harder," her client said seriously, but the smile showed her how pleased he was. "Will I remember the two histories if I take this thing off?" He held up his inhibitor.

Berenyi nodded. "You will."
