Summary:
Combative, Roger and Lucien are.
Roger and Lucien had a secret. A supplemental rule added to the wager they couldn't let anyone on either of their crews know about, as it would sink their intensively fashioned characters harder than the ruins on the bottom of the Lost City of Surferio.
Whether it was Dribe and Melt or Lezard and Vellian, Roger and Lucien played dumber for stature's sake. If they were doing it right, to any eye, the two Menodixes were what they'd always been – 48-47 and 1,504 ties into the Real Man Contest, outdaring the other for the trophies!
Between them, Roger had to brag: Despite Melt seeing all and knowing all, Melt gave no sign he'd seen through their diwty twick. Then again, Melt wasn't the chattiest, and Dribe did a lot of bragging on his behalf. Like, Melt could read the stars just a little, but couldn't unriddle the mysterious book they found!
A boast such as this worked to Roger and Lucien's advantage. Otherwise, gettin' stuff past the guys would be slightly more than slightly intimidating, when Melt's cryptic comments left so much room for interpretation.
Verily so, as Melt would put it. And dangerous, as Dribe would put it. Did Melt know or didn't he?
But in the words of Roger: "Adventure's gotta be dangerous!"
Lucien didn't like the obscurity. He stood to sustain a greater blow to his pride from a potential leak.
Lucien was Roger's type, of course. A tall(er) piece of tail to pat on the tail…barring the fact Lucien wasn't a purdy woman like Lady Nel.
He was ready to whap Roger over the head with his wooden sword. Roger was just lucky to be wearing a helmet!
You'd need a bird's eye view to spot what was transpirin'. To see the brat who called Lucien a fool and the brat who called Roger a goofball for who they really were underneath the surface.
Except if Roger had his way, it wouldn't be a secret much longer.
"Ho, cooperate with me here, Lucy!" Roger tried pulling Lucien down by the collar.
"Don't you start calling me by that name too! I get enough of that from Vellian! You want to wind up in a cage like you did in Duggus? Cuz I'll toss you into one right now!"
"Yah anglin' for the boss of the Moonshadow Clan's old job, or ya into that sort of thing?" Roger snarked, chopping his whiskers into Lucien's arm. "How 'bout this?"
"Shuddup, you reject!"
"Oooh, you make me so mad…"
"That's something you're into ain't it?"
"Yep! Now don't move while I –"
Lucien freed his arm. "I'm finding a cage and throwing away the key!"
