Hey, so I've finally pulled the trigger and actually joined insta... find me as lalez_writes and get more updates to what I am up to. Currently doing a little plot development project for my next original story.
Chris and Deac had decided to split up. The reasoning was Chris was smaller and could probably hike back in the direction of the city with the sat phone to try and get a connection undetected while Deac would take Rodrigo and head in the direction of the safe house.
They had done a quick radio check and Chris had heard Deac's voice faintly in her ear for the first 20 or 30 minutes but after the first time the helicopter had been over the area the connection had been cut. She couldn't be sure if the Helo had been help or the men after them and therefore, she had stuck to the underbrush and the trees. Chris was convinced if it had been SWAT or LAPD they would've used the coms and she'd heard them.
Chris checked her surroundings and tried to reach the next ridge so she could try reestablishing the sat phone connection. But the moment she could see the plateau she heard the sound of tires on gravel, and she ducked back down. Pressing her back against the tree trunk and hoped no one had seen her.
She slowly moves to the side and sees two strange men with aviator sunglasses step out of a black Range Rover.
Just like the ones that were tailing us.
She strains her ears to hear their conversation.
They seem to be discussing what they are going to do next now that they had found the toppled-over car empty. She ducks down again and takes a few deep breaths while the car starts back up and drives away.
Up in the Blackhawk 20 David minus their two missing team members is straining their eyes trying to see just a hint of something down in the woods, but the thick forest and brush make it impossible.
"Can we get anything on thermal?" Hondo asks and gets a negative back from Luca who has been trying. "Temperatures are too high."
Street suddenly feels a bump to his leg and when he turns his face he looks into the worried frown and glare of Tan. After his near-breakdown Tan had asked flat out if he needed to say something, but Street had promised to hold it together. Something must've worried Tan though and when Jim looks at his hands, he can see it. He is grabbing his riffle so hard his knuckles turned white. He relaxes his grip slightly and Tan's eyes soften. For a moment Street closes his eyes and counts the seconds of his in- and exhale. In a vain attempt at keeping his cool. He can't help but get more worried by the second.
Suddenly Hick's voice makes him sit up straighter and he notices his team doing the same.
"Hondo, hang on we are patching in Deac," the commander announces.
Street sits up straighter, and he feels Tan nudging him. The glance says, "See everything okay," and he actually lets himself breathe a little easier.
After Deac has established that the connection is stable Hondo interjects.
"Deac it is good to hear your voice. We are almost at the safehouse and can rope down in a few minutes and be with you guys,"
"Oh, thank god. So, Chris got through to you?" Deac sighs into the com set and Street who was just about to prepare the ropes freezes mid-movement.
This can't be happening. In a flash he regains his control and figures the faster he can get down there the faster he can help finding Chris for real.
"What do you mean Chris got through? We haven't had contact with you since you left the city," Hicks asks.
"The SUV rolled off the side of a cliff, and when we came to we tried calling. The connection broke because the guys found us. Two large SUVs had somehow found us out here. Chris tried getting to a safe place to make a call. I can't raise her on the com channel anymore cause of the distance, probably."
"Which channel?" Luca asks and his hands are immediately on the dial. "3" comes Deac's response and all of them nod and twist the nob on their headsets.
A little crackling later and the connection with HQ is back.
Hondo looks at his team clearly thinking what the next move should be.
"Deac, how long was your hike from the crash site?" Hicks asks and Street is assuming they are trying to pinpoint the locations now. "About 30 to 40 minutes. Chris was probably headed for higher ground and avoiding roads as best as possible,"
"Okay, commander we could use some company out hereā¦" Hondo starts when a weak voice interjects.
"I hate to interrupt you boss, but I could use some help down here," the unusual tone makes not only Street freeze. He can see the worry in all their faces. Especially when the next sound they hear is some sort of thud.
"Chris? Where are you? What's going on?" Hondo demands and the first sound they hear is heavy breathing paired with heavy gunfire.
"They found me, Wild West range," she heaves into the com before it cuts out again.
"Deac, hang tight Rocker is coming for you. Hondo, go get your officer," Hicks ends the discussion.
Street still stands at the door and Tan has to pull him back by his vest, so he sits back down for the short flight over to where Chris is.
His knuckles turn white again he is gripping his seat that hard and ignoring Tan's worried look. When the helo turns to hover over the clearing Jim is out of his seat before Hondo can say a word and when his team leader opens his mouth to reprimand him Street presses out "What are we waiting for? We know what to do!" while opening the doors and throwing the first rope out seconds before Hondo does the same at the other side.
They can see two SUVs parked at one side of the structure but no people. The moment he swings out of the helicopter gunfire echoes up and Street almost loses his grip on the rope. He can only think about getting down there and to Chris.
