Chapter 20: A Bit of Light

Cedric smiled sheepishly at Tanya, who simply blinked at him. "What?"

"Papa, I mean no disrespect when I ask this, but…" She folded her arms, tilting her head slightly to the side. "Do you just have a library of the realm's most depressing stories on hand, just in case we need one for a 'life lesson?'"

Sofia playfully slapped Cedric's shoulder as she laughed triumphantly. "That's what I was always saying! You're always telling these stories where people get killed off-even us this time!"

"Ow," the sorcerer loudly complained, rolling his eyes as he caressed his arm. "Look, she wanted to hear the story of dark kingdom pasts. Zodia is the darkest one I know, and from my knowledge, things did not actually improve… Even after all the sacrifices. The kingdom fell into ruin, and almost everyone perished as a result."

"I am grateful Enchancia has a brighter future than Zodia. While I know our kingdom has experienced some dark and troubling times, I have never once assumed that we would completely plumet into nothingness like Zodia did." Tanya gently nudged Nana, who smiled quietly up at her. "After all, we have our little light right here. Our light in the darkness who helped keep the Ever Realm secure."

Nana blushed modestly but nodded appreciatively.

After a few more minutes of chatting, the girls left the room, leaving their parents behind.

Sofia began snickering not long after Cedric sat up and stretched, much to his amusement.

"And what is so funny, my love?"

The princess grinned at him. "I love that even with my character supposedly so smitten by Desmond, you still couldn't help yourself and had to change the plot to give our 'characters' a form of connection."

He shrugged, humming, "Yes, well… No matter what, I would always want us to be connected, even in make-believe stories."

Sofia moved over to him, sliding into his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck as she kissed him deeply. "That will never change, Cedric," she whispered sweetly, giggling as he pulled her into a tight embrace, returning her affection. After a few moments, she broke the kiss to breathe, grinning mischievously at him. "So, about that bath my character got… That seemed kind of…relaxing."

Cedric smiled at her, tugging at her hair. "It wouldn't be the first time I've helped in that manner…"

"It better not be the last," she whispered, kissing him again as Cedric chuckled.

"Never, my love…"
