Rain Shaman
A Hurricane approaches from the Sea, storming toward the Coastline
Passing Ships change course but Seafaring vessels returning to Port
Dare to Dock at the Harbor and bring in their Cargo and Catches to the Market
Fishermen and Fisherwomen reel in their lures, carrying Rods that will catch Lightning
At the end of which lie their last Catches, ensnared by the hooks of worms and other bait
Everyone rushes to escape the coming Storm before it is too late
When the Hurricane arrives, carrying Tsunamis on its feet and Tornadoes from its eye
Panic ensues, driving them toward and behind the only hope they have left
Their last resort, a carefree protector who shows no fear of the Elements she has mastered
From the heavens of her Lighthouse, she descends to the balcony where she can see all
The Fresnel Lens of her Lantern glows in the darkened shadows dancing behind her
Spinning around and around in search of those who have yet to fortify themselves with her
To them, she is a towering figure capable of Weathering the Storm or a dot on the horizon
In reality, she is but a young girl who looks smaller than she appears but is still legal
Albeit sassy and demanding, yearning for their praise and to be pampered like a Princess
Despite her clumsiness and behavior like that of a gremlin, she is the master Aeromancy
Divining via Austromancy, Ceraunoscopy, Chaomancy, Meteormancy, and Nephomancy
Scrying with Hydromancy, Hydatomancy, Eromancy, Cyclicomancy, and Bletonomancy
A child born of the Ocean brought to Shore by the Waves that carried her to the Lighthouse
From the future where the world was devastated by Weather such as what she faces now
With her Parasol in hand and a ten meter radius around her for Shamanic spellcasting rituals
The Rain Shaman performs her ritual to Forecast the Weather of her community's future
Calling upon the Rain itself to show visions, different outcomes per Raindrop
And to pelt the Hurricane in a Sea of Rainwater she conjures from the heavens
To Dam its path toward the Coastline and Drown its Eye in the Current forcing it to crash
Scattering its Winds to certain locations she deems safe and in need of a breeze
Easily saving the community that has welcomed her and allowed her to call home
Bowing to her from below the Lighthouse, sailing toward her from the Sea she overlooks
Proving that she, the Rain Shaman descended from the Bloodline in her area
Is in fact the Rain Master destined to reclaim her title and save it for a Rainy Day
Until that Rainy Day comes, however, she lives the Happy life of a simple Rain Shaman
Watching the Rainbow she has just created, bridging the community to her Lighthouse
…
Once more, I have written another birthday poem for another of my favorite Hololive VTubers, Kobo Kanaeru, Hololive Indonesia's Rain Shaman and the most recent to join the list. She has been on it for quite a while by now and I am glad to count her as one of the top, although she was not the only one from Hololive Indonesia's Third Generation nor their first to be on it. Prior to Kobo, I actually thought her gen-mate, Kaela Kovalskia, was my favorite in Hololive Indonesia. Half of Hololive Indonesia's talents have not stood out to me as much as those of Hololive Japan and Hololive English. Pavolia Reine and Kureiji Ollie are amongst my list of second favorites, and Kaela and Vestia Zeta are in my third favorites. I bear no ill will toward Hololive Indonesia's First Generation and Anya Melfissa, the last member of its Second Generation. The four of them are all great VTubers and deserve the same amount of praise, although they have not made as much of an impact to me personally as the others did.
I am not criticizing Hololive Indonesia for this, it is just that like many fans, I too have my favorites in each branch based on my own personal opinion and I have wanted one of the talents in Hololive Indonesia to find themselves on my list of top favorites. Determining which of them would take the spot as my top favorite in Hololive Indonesia was tough at first. Kaela Kovalskia, as I said, beat Kobo to it because I found her personality comforting. Kaela's laid back behavior is rather quiet as opposed to some of the louder talents in Hololive, neither of which are bad qualities as I tend to prefer a mix of both. However, while I like the nature of Kaela's character, it ultimately gave way to Kobo because that quiet comfort slowly felt like it was fairly average at best. Kaela has since been one of my top third favorites because I still like that about her, but, and I am not saying this to be mean but I apologize if it comes across as offensive, I do wish there was more to her than just the daily grind, if you get what I mean.
Which begs the question: What do I like most about Kobo Kanaeru over Kaela? Well, simply put, I find Kobo's personality more endearing and welcoming. As their Rain Shaman, Kobo brings a lot to Hololive Indonesia and Hololive as a whole. Her power over not just the rain itself but the clouds that deliver it is symbolic in my opinion. Water keeps us and animals hydrated and helps grass and flora grow. It also allows us to witness beautiful rainbows after a good rain shower. In my opinion, her shamanic connection to rain shows respect to the rain shamen of Indonesian culture, the Pawang Hujan, through the pop culture of Hololive. These Pawang Hujan are held in regard by their people as they are hired to keep rain from pouring during outdoor events, something Kobo's wikia page on the Virtual YouTuber Wiki alludes to. This is what I wanted to show in this birthday poem to Kobo, expressing the power of this symbology by demonstrating what she means to the community. This community welcomed her and it is one Kobo helped build and grow as its Rain Shaman, making her a part of it as much as the community is a part of her. As I wrote this poem to express my favorite aspects of Kobo Kanaeru, I felt happy considering myself a part of this community she helped foster.
Happy Birthday, Kobo Kanaeru! Thank you for becoming one of my top favorites in Hololive and for being a ray of sunshine delivering rain and rainbows alike with your cheer!
