Later, after John Smith and the settlers had left to go back home to England,things settled down. Chief Powhatan was gone. This required a new chief be put in place.
The tribe created special decorations and invited the neighboring tribes. Visitors came from all over and took their positions. Serious drum music began. The coronation for her to be crowned the new chief began. Pocahontas was in a beautiful red cape walking down the aisle of the clearing in front of the forest.
Standing at the end of the aisle, was the medicine chief, he was holding a sharp-toothed necklace and a hat that is covered in eagle feathers. It would be his job to lead the ceremony . Pocahontas was able to reach the main area where she would be standing in front of the medicine chief. Then, after a set of prayers and announcements, the medicine chief would quietly put the sharped tooth necklace around her neck. This showed the tribe that they would work together on things. Then, she put the hat filled with eagle feathers on top of her head. This crown was symbolic of her rule and connection to the universe
Pocahontas then looked up straight at the sun, a teardrop dripped down from her face. She thanked the Spirit above. Pocahontas looked up at the sky and her father may have been looking down at her from above. The sky was filled with the crowd yelling, "Long Live The Chief", then, Pocahontas started to close her eyes while the tears started streaming down her face.
Then, the wind started blowing in her hair.
