A soft and yet unknown sensation under his head. He wasn't sure what it was but it was pleasant. Not remembering anything besides some minor details he slowly opened his eyes only to see a completely red battlefield filled with horrific scenes of Nikkes and raptures engaging with each other.

Truly a horrific scene for some people. However even though he was in midst of battle he saw her. Her beautiful brown hair swinging along with the wind and her eyes scanning him with worried expression he let out a weak groan.

"Commander! Please tell me you are alright!" Beautiful girl was referring to him as 'commander' which was unusual to him...he was a commander? Commander...ah right. He is the rookie commander assigned to this mission of exterminating raptures.

"W...What is going on?" he said weakly as stood up hurriedly.

The girl's expression softened as she letting a relived smile looked towards him.

"Thanks to god you are alright, commander!" She hurriedly stood up as with a serious expression stated "Code name: Marian! Reporting the situation...our convoy was attacked by a swarm of raptures and I found you laying on ground barely alive but thankfully you seemed to recover."

He slowly rubbed his eyes as looked around.

"I see...Thank you for saving me, Marian, I would have been dead if it wasn't for you." He bowed down respectfully surprising the Nikke in front of him.

It was unusual for commanders to express gratitude towards Nikkes yet this commander oddly enough expressed it in a most humane way.

"N-No need to thank me, commander, I was just doing my job."

He smiled.

"Come to think of it...I never introduced myself...didn't I?" he took a moment to look towards his uniform which was a bit dusty due to the explosion in convoy but it was still alright. "My name is Yuki Haruma, nice to meet you Marian."

Looking at him closely Marian finally had a nicer footage of the man near her. He had a short black hair with black eyes. He seemed more like a teenager rather than a grown-up man and his look seemed naïve yet somehow attractive.

"Now that you are awake...what are our next destination?" she asked curiously.

Haruma took a moment to think before answering.

"I think our top priority as of now is to head towards the rendezvous point and help Nikkes we find along the way..."

This surprised Marian even more.

"H-Helping Nikkes? But your conditions right now are unstable, commander! We can't do that no- "

Before she could continue a huge explosion erupted in their backs. Both Rookie commander along with his Nikke looked towards the source of the sound and saw swarm of raptures heading towards their way.

"Tch...there are quite a lot of them..."

Marian took out her gun.

"Commander...I am extremely sorry to bother you in your current condition but... I need your commanding abilities to deal with these raptures."

Marian's voice was serious and Yuki knew that Nikkes without right commands aren't really too practical and beside...running away wasn't an option either as considering he himself being a human...raptures would easily catch him and Marian in no time.

"I will try to do my best." Yuki said firmly with a little sweat running down his forehead...he just needed to calm down and think of what he learned in academy.

Marian smiled as too out her machine gun.

"Ready to engage!"

With that Marian started to shoot towards nearby raptures.

"Marian, shoot the ones in corners...they seem to heal the attackers!"

"Roger!"

As said by commander Marian dealt with raptures on corners and to her surprise the commander was right. Once dealt with a healer raptures it became twice easier to deal with the rest.

After around 6 minutes of intense fighting the swarm of raptures was dealt with completely and Yuki along with his Nikke were now alone.

"Good work, Marian..." The young commander sighed as looked around for any unwanted enemy nearby, thankfully there wasn't any.

Raptures are humanities nemesis...natural enemies in a way. It has been more than 100of years since war between humanity and raptures erupted...dark times but humanity managed to somehow survive by going into an underground base which is named 'Ark'

"Commander, are you hurt by any chance?"

commander shook his head.

"Thanks to you I am alright but...what about you?"

Marian showed her right leg which was shot by rapture during the battle.

"But a scratch..."

Young commander seeing that couldn't believe that Marian seemed alright with injury like this.

He immediately took out his kit and wrapped bandages around Marian's leg.

"Umm...commander, what are you doing?" Marian asked confused.

Commander looked towards her with concerned eyes.

"Even minor injuries can lead to catastrophically bad outcome so just believe me."

Marian scratched her cheeks.

"I appreciate your concern, dear commander, but humans and Nikkes are different in structure."

This surprised the commander yet he still finished to wrap the bandage.

"Still...I want to help...no matter how minor my help is." His eyes were shining with determination as its surprised Marian.

She never saw such a carrying commander before...every commander she has met looked at Nikkes as if they were tools but not this commander...this commander seemed strange yet pleasant. Marian felt her heart throb for a moment as hit piled up near her cheeks.

Just...what was this strange feeling?

Commander on other hand, just smiled looking towards her.

"I hope the pain is gone." He smiled cheerfully.

Marian couldn't help but smile as well.

"Thank you, commander." she grabbed his suit as her grip got a bit tighter. "Really~"

For a moment he thought that her eyes glowed red as expression was more sadistic rather than happy.

'Oh commander...you are so kind to me, a Nikke, so cute...so cute, so cute, so cute!' it was strange attitude even for her but she didn't mind...even if she met him not long ago her heart was beating in crazy symphony...she knew that it was sign...a sign that commander is her fated one.

"M-Marian?" Commander asked a bit taken aback by sudden tight grip on his uniform.

"What is it my dear, commander?" She asked with a warm smile.

"D-Don't you think that you are gripping my jacket a bit...too much?"

Several hours later they both were still heading towards the rendezvous point like was planned earlier.

"How are you feeling, commander?"

Commander let an exhausted huff.

"A bit dizzy but...I am alright, thanks for carrying for me Marian..." Yuki smiled weakly...it might not seem like it but in fact he was really exhausted.

Marian noticed that quickly.

"Let's rest for a bit commander Yuki."

"B-But- "

Marian didn't give me a slightest chance to say anything as placed her finger on his lips.

"Your heart stopped back than when I found you...it is no wonder you still feel exhausted. As a Nikke my most and foremost job is to take care of you commander so please...lay down on my lap for a bit."

Yuki didn't want to be an unneeded load to Marian but still she had a point.

He slowly sat down as Marian sat near him.

"I am afraid we don't have anything like pillow so I suggest you lay on my lap."

This surprised the young commander as he all red like tomato looked towards Marian.

"H-H-Huh??"

Marian on other hand was serious.

"I am serios commander...I want you to lay down and rest. I will take care of you."

"B-But...is it really alright in situation like that?" Yuki was blushing. Surely many commanders and people saw Nikkes as mindless killing machines but Yuki was a bit different...he was showing sympathy towards Nikkes.

"Don't worry commander and just rest."

With that the commander decided to lay his head down on Marian's lap as slowly his mind was going blurry and he was starting to fall asleep.

Marian looked towards him. His pure hearted face and innocent expression...this made her heart to beat faster. This commander Yuki, he was different...he was something else and that's what she loved about him.

"Don't worry commander...I will always protect you...from anything and anyone." Her eyes glowed red again as the aura seemed to tense up.

With that Marian and her newfound commander spent around 30 minutes to take a short nap.

Meanwhile in rendezvous point we can see two female figures. They were Nikkes. One was wearing yellow set of clothes with her hair being blonde while other had somewhat mix between red and black clothes.

They both were Rapi and Anis.

"I can't take it anymore, Rapi! I am sure there is nobody alive...like did you see that explosion??" The blonde girl, Anis, exclaimed pointing towards the point where the convoy had crushed.

Rapi on other hand shook her head.

"We can't...leaving the rendezvous point will leave a great impact on our general forces and besides..." She took out her communicator. "We didn't receive a dead signal from Nikkes yet."

Anis rolled her eyes over.

"Are you being serious right now!?" She pointed towards the direction where raptures were gathered. "Soon enough those big junk idiots will be here and...Not like someone would appear out of nowhere you know???"

Unfortunately for Anis's previous words someone really did appeared.

"We finally found you!"

Unknown voice came from Anis's back.

"E-eep!" the blonde girl exclaimed from surprise. "Y-You scared me!"

Looking towards the person who scared Anis, Rapi saw Marian and Commander Yuki.

"We survived that explosion from earlier and arrived to rendezvous point, I am Marian and this person here is commander Haruma Yuki." Marian reported much to both Rapi's and Anis's surprise.

"Wait a moment...I can understand that you survived since you are a Nikke but what about him? He is a normal person, there is no way someone can survive explosion such as this."

Yuki sheepishly smiled.

"G-Guess I got lucky, ha-ha..."

Rapi step forward.

"I am extremely sorry commander Yuki but can we make a little check up to understand whether you are a commander or not."

"You are doubting our words?" Marian said displeased with a bad attitude towards her commander.

Rapi shook her head.

"It is a protocol...I believe you both so that's why I ask for your cooperation."

Marian was about to say more but Yuki stopped her.

"Don't worry Marian it is just a data check."

Marian sighed.

"A-Alright."

So as said Anis scanned him and was...surprised.

"A...R-Rookie commander!? On top of that you graduated from academy just yesterday?" This surprised Rapi as well.

Commanders are highly in demand in ark. Part of the reason is their commanding abilities however now...they see a fresh commander in front of them meaning that he was complete novice and his commanding abilities might be lacking experience.

"I am...sorry?" Yuki scratched his cheek.

Rapi and Anis sighed.

"Apologies, Commander Yuki Haruma...just it is a disadvantage on our side to have an inexperienced commander."

This hurt Haruma's pride but he wasn't a person who held a grudge anyway.

"Hey, commander right here is actually good in giving orders, not long ago I myself became a victim of his excellent abilities." Marian stated angrily at both of them.

Anis was the most skeptic one...to think that rookie commander like him can be good at giving tactical commands?

Rapi however had a felling that Marian's words are right. Yuki might be a rookie but somehow, she had a feeling that this commander is like an unpolished gem. She wanted to see whether her guess was right and...it didn't take too long to check.

BOOM

Bunch of Raptures were heading towards their way.

"Well, if Marian's words are true, I am willing to bet on you commander." Anis stated.

At that moment Yuki understood that he can't just sit still and he should gain trust of those two Nikkes.

"Alright than...Take your positions."

Nikkes responded with a loud 'Roger!' and begun an engagement.

The battle started and Yuki's commands were iron and surprisingly good. In matter of minutes their squad managed to deal with the raptures who were coming towards them.

"Well, that was easy..." Anis stated surprised.

"Told you, Commander Yuki is pretty good." Marian stated proudly.

"I didn't do anything it was you girls who did a greater share of did."

"Hoh? A commander who is praising his Nikkes, that's a new."

Most surprised was Rapi, her feeling was right, although he may be a rookie but his commanding abilities were on par with veteran commanders and that was strange...in a good way.

"Come to think of it...where are your commander?" Yuki asked curiously.

Both Anis and Rapi fell silent for a moment.

"He is...dead." Rapi answered first.

"It means you both, failed to defend your commander."

"Hey! We were willing to give our life for commander...but pride took over them and they decided to fight raptures with his human gun...we tried to stop him but it was futile."

Marian was actually angry...not on them loosing their commander but in thought that her commander might suddenly die. The tension was raisin ng but...

"Enough." Yuki stated calmly. "You both did well protecting your commander so thank you for that, Anis, Rapi."

He extended both of his hand for a handshake.

"Let's head back and find other Nikkes that might be in need of help."

Although they were hesitant but something just told them that this commander was trustworthy enough to believe him.

They shook his hands in agreement.

"Central Government commander Yuki, as of now we are under your command."

Yuki smiled.

"Please take care of me."

With that, newly founded team started to go towards unknown direction.
