I know I said I'd put these as a separate fic, but for right now, there's not too many of this scenes, so I'll post them here for the time being.
Hope you all like these! Feel free to ask if you have a request for a First Experience scene!
God Bless and Good Day!
~The Lupine Sojourner
Over the first few months since their arrival, I helped the Autobots clean out the old silo with some military officers that had seen them that first night and were sworn to secrecy.
Then we help Ratchet (are ordered around by Ratchet, more accurately) with setting up the computers for Cybertronian use, Ratchet integrating some tech from their wrecked ship to help them use it.
Uncle Will, though not happy about my helping them all the time, checked in on me every once in a while.
The summer faded and in came the fall weather, surprising the bots with colder temperatures and higher winds after their experience in the rain last week.
They adjusted quickly to the fluctuating temperatures, but as usual, my body decided to give me a cold.
I take medication to clear up the congestion and drive over to help at the base.
Soon after I start sweeping the main area (again), though, I sneeze in the echo-y room, making Ratchet twitch in fright.
"What in Primus' name was that?!" He looks around and sees me blowing my nose.
"Sorry, Ratchet. I have a-" Another sneeze sounds. "A cold." I blow my nose again and sigh. I hate colds…
"A cold what?" Ratchet asks, plainly a bit taken aback and confused, raising a metal brow.
"It's a human thing. It's a minor infection of my sinuses. Nothing to worry about." I take a sip of water as Ratchet shakes his head.
"So you're leaking fluids because of an infection?"
"Sorta, yeah. I'm leaking mucus, really. My body is trying to get rid of the virus by flooding my sinuses with-"
"Robyn?" Mayfly asks, peeking from where she and Bulkhead were assembling a pipeline for Energon. "You alright? You look…miserable."
I smile at her. "I'm alright, Mayfly. Just a cold."
"What's cold?"
I shake my head. "No, a cold. It means I'm a little sick, but I'll be fine."
Mayfly frowns. "Sick, like a virus?"
"Yeah, but a minor one. It just makes me sneeze and cough for a little bit, no big deal. I've taken some medication for it, so I'll be totally fine in a day or so."
"But your voice is all weird."
"That's because my vocal cords are a little clogged with mucus. It'll clear up soon."
"If you say so…" Mayfly shrugs, going back with Bulkhead to finish the pipeline. "Humans are weird."
"I heard that!" I call after her, laughing, but that sets off a coughing fit.
"Robyn, if you're sick, you should go home." Uncle Will calls, coming out of the elevator while I try to stop coughing.
"I'm fine, Uncle Will." I wave him off, but Uncle Will gently takes the broom out of my hand and makes me sit at the human computer.
"Don't be stubborn, Robyn. Sit."
I huff. "I took medicine."
"Then wait for it to kick in." He replies, not giving an inch. "Or I'll have your buddy Mayfly take you home."
I roll my eyes, but stay seated. "At least bring me my water bottle."
While he's grabbing it, Mayfly walks over. "I heard my name?"
"Uncle Will is insisting I need to rest, threatening to have you take me home if I don't take it easy." I chuckle. "He's always like this when I'm sick."
"It's nice to see your commanding officer express such concern." Mayfly says, smiling at Uncle Will.
I raise a brow. "What?"
"Agent Fowler is your commanding officer, isn't he?"
I shake my head. "No, he's my godfather. I call him 'Uncle' because he was like a brother to my dad."
Mayfly frowns. "I'm confused. I thought uncle was a rank in the human military, like agent. I just didn't get why you called him a different rank."
I chuckle. "Look up 'uncle' and 'father'."
"What? They don't have families on Cybertron?" Uncle Will asks, handing me my water bottle.
Mayfly shakes her head. "No." Her eyes flicker like they do when looking something up on the Internet. "Sounds nice, if unfamiliar." She tilts her head at Uncle Will. "So you were raised with Robyn's…father?"
Uncle Will shakes his head. "Not technically, but we were best friends, as close as brothers. His mom joked I was the well-mannered son she always wanted but never got." He sighs, eyes turning wistful, resting his hand on my shoulder. "I remember being his best man at his wedding." Mayfly's eyes flicker, but she makes no comment. "It was the happiest day of both our lives. When Robyn was born, I remember thinking there's nothing I wouldn't do to protect her, even before I was named godfather. The day Chaplin was shot down…that was a hard one." I put my hand over his, glancing up at him. It was always hard for him to talk about this.
"Chaplin was Robyn's father?" Mayfly asks to clarify.
Uncle Will nods. "Yeah. So I started helping her mother, Grace, but turns out she had cancer." He hangs his head as Mayfly's eyes once again flicker before she winces. "So then it was just me left to take care of Robyn here. Been doing my best ever since."
"I'd say you're doing a great job." I side-hug him, eyes prickling and throat aching with unshed tears. It always hurt when he talked about my parents, but I know we should never forget them.
"Humans are fascinating." Mayfly shakes her head, and I raise a brow.
"Who was it that said, quote, 'humans are weird' just a moment ago?"
Mayfly laughs. "That was past Mayfly. Not me."
I roll my eyes. "If you say so." I drink more water and start logging in to work on at least filing some reports while I'm taking it easy.
Mayfly pauses while walking away. "I just realized, in a way, I kinda have a brother."
I tilt my head. "Oh?"
She nods. "Bumblebee and I are what's called Spark Twins, meaning we share a Spark."
"Which means?"
"It means we're forever connected to each other, we feel something of each other's emotions, and each other's pain."
"Sounds cool!"
"It is, minus the pain part." Mayfly smiles as Bee happens to walk by. "I'd be lost without him."
"I don't have siblings, but I'd be lost without Uncle Will." I reply, watching as Uncle Will talks to Optimus. "He's really the only family I've got. Mom and Dad didn't have a lot of siblings and extended family, so really…it's just me and him."
Mayfly puts a hand gently on my shoulder. "I'm sorry, Robyn. I know that's a lonely way to live." She glances at the team around her. "If I didn't have the Autobots and Bee, I'd feel alone, too."
I shake myself a bit, sip some water, and stand. "Well, maybe we all can be a kind of family here on Earth. Optimus is the dad, Ratchet's the cranky grandpa, and you all are the kids."
Mayfly laughs. "Sounds like a recipe for disaster."
"Each family is unique. This one is just…very unique." I laugh and look over at the team.
Yeah…this family is in no way related to each other at all, but we're still a family.
I just hope the Autobots see it that way, too.
