"Very good. This is the last one." I said while a creeper brought up one last baggage to the ship.
The day came. The night had been very intense because Valentine was very petrified and at the same time shocked by the simple fact that Vivian was going to return to Overwatch. On the other hand, the former Overwatch captain was more than determined to return to the battlefield and nothing was going to stop her.
"Remember Bonnie. If you want to be an Overwatch agent you have to study, eat healthy, and stay out of harm's way until you're with people who can cover your back." Sojourn said with a smile. Making the small teenager roll her eyes but also smile.
"Yes, Aunt Vivian. I'm going to do all of that." the girl said before hugging Sojourn as Bonnie flashed a smile.
"Captain!!. All set and ready!!." Tracer yelled with a smile making Vivian laugh.
"Mom, aren't you going to say goodbye?" Bonnie asked Valentine. The woman was very worried that her sister would return to the battlefield despite all her nightmares.
"Please be careful, okay?" Valentine asked before Vivian gave her a hug. The woman hugged the Overwatch captain tightly before sighing and looking into her sister's eyes with a smile.
"I'll be back, I promise." Vivian said before getting on the transport.
"Tracer, all set!!" I yelled before jumping up and on the ship but then we saw a dog approaching and wanting to get on.
"It seems that Murphy doesn't want to be alone." Bonnie said before picking up the dog. Tracer smiled as did I as Sojourn patted Murphy's head.
"Captain, bring Murphy along. Winston will surely be glad to see him." Tracer said with a smile causing Sojourn to look at Murphy. The dog didn't hesitate and he jumped into Vivian's arms before starting to lick his face which caused Sojourn to laugh.
"Very good. Everyone put on your seatbelts, we're leaving!!." Tracer yelled before activating the thrusters and making the ship slowly begin to lift off.
"Goodbye Aunt Vivian!!." Bonnie yelled as Sojourn waved goodbye to her family with a smile before the ship began to fly.
"OK let's see." At that moment I opened the map that Cassidy gave me but suddenly I saw how the central panel of the ship began to glow and showed me an image of a globe with all the locations of each Overwatch agent.
"So. Do you plan to gather the whole team?" Sojourn asked with a smile before looking at me.
"I owe it to Winston. He's helping me and the least I can do is return the favor and I think Overwatch should come back." I said while looking at the map but Vivian looked at a country with a smile.
"Winston is going to need a lot of manpower. And I know someone with a hand and a claw who can help us." The captain said with a smile making Tracer laugh.
"His name is Torbjörn. Before he was one of Overwatch's best soldiers and engineers, Torbjörn was recognized around the world for his unique skills in handling both military power and people's aid machines. However, his biggest fear was that one day, the omnics would reveal themselves. Something that happened."
"In the battle, Torbjörn had accidentally lost many of his blueprints but managed to keep the rest. Unfortunately, out of fear that the whole world would be in danger because of him, he decided to destroy every last blueprint he had. The last thing he left behind before he left, it was a trash can and his blueprints burning in flames."
"Wow, and you think he's going to agree to come back to Overwatch?" I asked curiously making Vivian laugh.
"Don't worry. He could be a grumpy old curmudgeon, just don't mention the subject of omnics and I assure you that he will agree to help you without any problem." Vivian said with a smile making me smile.
"Very good. I'll go right now, captain, please mark Torbjörn's location." I said smiling making the captain laugh.
"You don't have to be so formal, just call me Sojourn for now." The woman said before marking the location on the map. At that time walk to the hatch before opening it.
"I see you later!!." I yelled before taking a big jump which scared Sojourn a lot but the woman was surprised to see me fly at such speed.
"Believe me, captain. It's a long story, he promised us that when he returns to Gibraltar, he will tell us everything he knows." Tracer said with a giggle as the captain just watched me fly away.
The journey was a bit longer because I was storing up my magic. If Talon was around then I had to be ready and prepared for anything.
"Commander Sojourn, I am close to Switzerland." I said through the communicator while I slowly began to reach a small town.
"Very good, Benja. Stay hidden and whatever you do try not to draw attention to yourself or talk about Overwatch, got it?" The woman asked as she and Tracer were arriving in Gibraltar.
"Understood. Thank you captain." I said earlier to end the communication before hiding my fox tails and ears so I can walk through the streets without attracting attention.
"Welcome to Gothenburg. I wonder if I can find Torbjörn here." I said before starting to walk through the streets.
The city, unlike the others, was not so technological. Actually, the city kept a lot of classical architecture and many things, the only difference was the cars and the few robots there were, although most of the robots were workers.
"It's a very nice city. At least I'm not seeing something happening. I just hope I can find Torbjörn and convince him to come back to Overwatch, though. I think that will be difficult." I said doubtfully but suddenly bumped into someone for being so deep in my thoughts.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't see it." I said nervously but my nerves shot up seeing the person I crashed. He was a tall and stocky man, his hair was white like mine, and in one of his eyes I could see a scar.
"Are you alright, little girl?" The man asked with a German accent making me come to.
"Umm, I'm a male. And yes, I'm fine." I said nervously but then I saw the man give me a hand.
"Oh, excuse me then, my friend. Let me give you a hand." The man said with a smile before helping me to my feet.
"Reinhardt. Is everything alright?" I turned around only to see a girl. The girl was taller than me, she had brown hair and wore casual clothes like any teenager.
"Yes, Brigitte. I just had a little accident with this little friend." The man said with a smile putting a hand on my shoulder.
"Oh, okay. Come on, my dad must be waiting for us with the food." The girl said with a smile as she and the man walked to a van.
"Umm, excuse me!!" I quickly approached the two causing both the man and the girl to look at me.
"Sorry but. I'd like to know if you know someone named Torbjörn. It's to talk about an important matter." I said looking at the two but noticed that Brigitte was looking at everything with curiosity.
"Yes, he is my dad. What matter do you have to talk to him about?" The girl asked curiously making me look at her.
"Oh Brigitte. If it's important, I doubt very much that he spoke about it in the street. Why don't you come with us, my friend?" Reinhardt asked with a smile making me smile.
"I appreciate it very much. I hope I'm not a bother." I said smiling making the man laugh.
"Annoyance? Nonsense, come on, join us." The man said before getting into the truck along with Brigitte and me.
"Well, what's your name, my friend?" The man asked before starting to drive.
"My name is Benjamín Escudero. It's a pleasure." I said smiling, however, Brigitte was still looking at me with some doubt.
The trip was not that long. During the trip, Reinhardt had been cracking jokes and listening to a genre of music called "Technopolka." To be honest, it was a flashy and interesting genre of music. However, Brigitte was quiet throughout while Reinhardt and I talked and laughed a bit.
"Alright, we're here." Reinhardt said as he, Brigitte and I got out of the vehicle. The house in front of us was beautiful in size with a wide field and I could see an entrance to the woods from behind the house.
"Feels good to be back, huh Brigitte?" The man asked with a smile, the girl was going to answer but suddenly we heard a loud noise from inside.
"You disgusting rodent stay away from my work!!." Reinhardt couldn't help but laugh out loud while Brigitte was embarrassed.
"Please tell me why he didn't do it again." Brigitte whispered with concern only to hear something break from within.
"Bastion!!. You damned piece of tin with legs, come here this instant!!." Brigitte quickly entered the house making me look at this with surprise while Reinhardt was slowly recovering.
"Oh, Benja. Come with me, you don't want to miss this." The man said as he wiped away a tear of laughter before entering the house with me.
"Get the hell out of here, you filthy trash-eating vermin!!" The first thing I saw was a short man in a long Barbara with a little apron chasing a raccoon with a broom. But then I noticed that the little animal seemed to be hiding behind a huge robot that had a machine gun in one of its hands.
"Bastion!!. We had already talked about this topic!!." The man yelled as the robot just petted the raccoon and talked.
"Don't tell me that story. I had to drive a bloody bear out of my garage the other day because of you, and don't make me mention that you brought a wolf into the house yesterday!!." The man yelled in anger as the robot seemed to lower its head.
"Hello Dad." The man turned only to see Brigitte. The girl was clearly embarrassed while Reinhardt chuckled.
"My little princess. How are you honey?" The man asked before walking with a smile to where Brigitte is while the girl laughed a bit embarrassed.
"I'm very well dad, it's good to see you." the girl said with a shy smile before hugging her father. The man hugged his daughter but then he noticed Reinhardt.
"Reinhardt. I hope you took good care of Brigitte." The man said seriously making the other man laugh.
"Brigitte knows how to take care of herself, old friend. But I see you have a pest problem." Reinhardt said with a chuckle before pointing to bastion. The robot was trying to wriggle away but he froze under the serious gaze of Brigitte's father.
"Bastion." The robot lowered its head before walking to the back door before opening it and letting the raccoon go.
"Silly robot. I'll let that little bird of yours be here in this house, but you're not allowed to bring any more animals into this house." The man said but then he noticed that I was behind Reinhardt.
"And who are you, boy?" The man asked before walking to where I am. The man could barely reach the height of my hips.
"Dad. This is Benja, he's coming to talk to you about something." Brigitte said before approaching me but then I saw the man grab a hammer tightly.
"Let me tell you something, brat. Brigitte is still young to be married and if you seek my blessing, I'm going to flatten that little head of yours." The man said seriously making Brigitte and I turn very red and Reinhardt starts laughing out loud.
"Dad!! He and I barely know each other, and he came with us to talk to you about something!!." the girl yelled, her face completely red as Reinhardt slowly recovered but with great difficulty from her burst of laughter.
"Relax now little goblin. This is Benja, he came with us to discuss an important matter with you. Don't be an old curmudgeon." Reinhardt said with a chuckle but that annoyed the short man.
"Benja. He is my dad, Torbjörn. And he is Bastion, a friend of ours." Brigitte said before pointing at her father and then at the robot. The man was arguing with Reinhardt while the robot greeted me in a friendly manner.
"Brigitte, are you home honey?" We turned around only to see a beautiful woman with blonde hair. For some strange reason, the woman's appearance reminded me very much of Queen Hippolyta.
"Hello mom. Benja, this is my mother, Ingrid. Mom, this is Benja, a friend." Brigitte said with a smile making her mother smile before walking towards us with a cake in her hands.
"Nice to meet you young man. Nice to see you again sweetie." Ingrid said with a smile before hugging Brigitte.
"I'm so glad to see you too mom." The girl said with a smile as Torbjörn slowly seemed to calm down.
"Okay. Gotta get back to the grill before the burgers burn, I'm glad I made a lot of them." The man said before leaving while Reinhardt laughed a little.
"Please, you're welcome to eat with us. Sorry if my husband gets a little grumpy, my daughter hardly ever brings boys home." Ingrid said with a smile while the woman and Reinhardt went to the patio, on the other hand, Brigitte limited herself to scratching the back of her neck in embarrassment.
Every boy or schoolmate that she brought to her house, her father was very strict and did not put down his hammer until the visitors left.
We were all now outside eating. I could hardly eat due to Torbjörn's serious look because Brigitte and I were sitting very close to each other, on the other hand, Ingrid was very relaxed and Reinhardt was eating happily.
"Benja, right?" I look ahead only to see Torbjörn.
"Brigitte said you wanted to tell me something. Tell me, what is it?" The man asked curiously before starting to prepare another burger.
"Umm, I think it would be better to say it in private." I said with concern. Vivian's sister was on the verge of fainting, she didn't want that to happen again.
"Okay, I guess." The man said before walking me inside.
"Daughter, what do you think that boy came to tell your father?" Ingrid asked while the woman ate calmly but Brigitte looked at everything with concern.
"I don't know mom. I'm going to find out." The girl said before leaving. On the other hand, Reinhardt was preparing another burger but unfortunately the man noticed that the sauce had run out.
"Ugh, what a bother. No more sauce, I'll be right back." Reinhardt said before walking into the kitchen.
"Alright kid. If you want privacy, then I'll give it to you. Come on in." Torbjörn said as the two of us entered an office. I looked around in amazement seeing multiple blueprints, college degrees, and little robots walking around the place.
"Sit down now and tell me, I don't want to waste my day with my daughter." The man said as I sat in front of him.
"Mr. Torbjörn. My name is Benjamin Escudero, I am a member of Overwatch. I was sent by Winston to recruit retired agents to fight evil again." I said seriously but that surprised the man. But we never noticed that Brigitte was around and she listened to everything with shock.
"Is what you say true? How do I know you're not cheating on me? Don't play with me, child." Torbjörn said seriously making me shake my head nervously.
"I'm not lying, sir. Winston and I sent a message days ago explaining everything." I said looking at Torbjörn. The man got up and walked to a computer before beginning to search until he was shocked to find the video.
Brigitte leaned out and saw everything with shock. Torbjörn was analyzing the video in detail, the man was remembering everything he had done throughout his life and the things he had to face.
"Winston sent you here to look for me, huh? How do I know you can be trusted?" The man asked seriously but then he saw that I took out my map.
"Cole Cassidy. He was the one who gave me this map, he told me I can use it to find the rest of the team. I found Captain Sojourn and she agreed to come back, and she told me that I should look for you because the captain says that Winston may need your help." I said looking at Torbjörn.
"After all these years. Back to Overwatch?." Torbjörn asked uncertainly before massaging his forehead.
"I know it may be a difficult decision, but Captain Vivian told me that you are perfect and that your mechanical skills are what Overwatch needs." I said looking at Torbjörn as the man walked to a small closet.
"You know why I quit Overwatch, right? People started calling us criminals, murderers, even accusing me of building those junks that took hundreds of innocent lives." The man said with disappointment before stroking what appeared to be a robotic claw to remove some dust.
"Forgetting that kind of thing is a very difficult path full of obstacles, but the world needs you more than ever. Mr. Torbjörn, are you going to help us?" I asked curiously as the man took a closer look at the robotic claw and then at an old photo of him and his friends in Overwatch.
"What are you spying on, Brigitte?" The girl almost screamed in shock when Reinhardt appeared behind her with a smile.
"Reinhardt, my god. Don't do that." Brigitte said before grabbing her chest which caused the man to laugh before walking to the window.
"Let's see how far you look." The man said with a smile but that scared Brigitte a lot.
"Reinhardt, please don't look!!." The girl screamed in fear but that made the man laugh.
"Oh Brigitte, what are you trying to hide? Were you secretly spying on Benja?" Bold girl." Reinhardt said in a mocking tone causing the girl to turn red as a tomato.
"Stop saying that and get away from the window!!" Brigitte yelled nervously as she struggled to move Reinhardt but she was useless and she only managed to make the man laugh.
"Relax already Brigitte, it will only be a moment." The man said before taking a closer look around the room to listen more closely.
"You're right about something, boy. Overcoming my past will be very difficult, and mending my mistakes will be almost impossible. But that doesn't mean I'm leaving this world just like that." At that moment I saw Torbjörn drop the robotic hand from him before putting on the robotic claw and turning around.
"Torbjörn Lindholm, reporting for duty!!." The man yelled with a grin making her smile.
"I am very glad that you are willing to help us, Mr. Torbjörn. I will call Winston to send a transport to look for you." I said smiling before walking out of the room.
"Okay, and one more thing boy. Stop calling me sir, I'm not that old." Torbjörn said with a smile making me laugh.
"Very good. I'll be back soon, Torbjörn." I said smiling before going out to the patio so I could communicate with Winston.
"That is true?." I turned around only to see Reinhardt and Brigitte. The man turned to look at me and I saw with surprise that the man's smile had completely disappeared.
"Who are you, boy?" The man asked before moving a little closer to me.
"How much did you listen?" I asked nervously only to see Brigitte approaching with her arms crossed.
"Enough. Tell us who you are and why are you here?" The girl asked with some seriousness making me sigh.
"My name is Benjamin Escudero, I'm a member of Overwatch. I'm looking for former agents so Overwatch can come back and we can protect the world together. I came here to find Torbjörn so he can help Winston." I said looking at Brigitte but then I saw Reinhardt walk up to me before grabbing my shoulders.
"You're from Overwatch, right? How true is it that Winston wants to get the team back together?" The man asked with a dull tone of voice.
"The boy and Winston recorded a video. They sent the video through Overwatch's emergency signal." We all turned to look at Torbjörn but saw that in his other hand he seemed to be holding an almost dusty hammer.
"Winston never told you about me, did he?" Reinhardt asked curiously causing me to look at the man in confusion.
"I don't feel it." I said looking at the man but then I saw Reinhardt kneel down to be at my level.
"My name is Reinhardt Wilhelm. I was an Overwatch agent before too." The man said making me look at everything with surprise but Brigitte looked at everything with concern.
"It's true. Reinhardt joined us a long time ago, at first he was a hardhead. But that didn't take away from the fact that he was our deadliest weapon if we required brute force to destroy assault units in no time." Torbjörn said in a mocking tone making Reinhardt laugh a little.
"Yes. I was the shield of the team, if someone was in danger, I would always go to protect my teammates. Until they had to forcefully discharge me after Overwatch disbanded." The man said with annoyance before feeling Torbjörn's hand on his shoulder.
"But that didn't stop me from bringing justice, traveling the world to deliver justice and protecting the lives of innocent people no matter the risk or how many times I get shot down. I will always honor my oath." Reinhardt said seriously before looking at me.
"If you say Overwatch is coming back. Then I'll be your shield." The man said with a smile but that horrified Brigitte.
"Wait, Reinhardt. I don't think it's a good idea, your armor is almost broken after the last battle we had, the system needs to be reconfigured and we need to repair the destroyed parts. That could take time." Brigitte said fearfully but that made Torbjörn laugh.
"Oh Brigitte, you don't have to worry about that. That's something I can fix in two hours. Not to worry." The man said with a smile but that made Brigitte more nervous.
"Everyone is fine?." We turned to see Ingrid approaching with a cake in her hands.
"We're all fine pumpkin, don't worry." Torbjörn said with a smile making the woman smile.
"Very good. Come on everyone, the tarts are ready." Ingrid said with a smile before leaving making Reinhardt laugh.
"Yes!! I always have room for dessert." The man said with a smile before going to the table but that annoyed Torbjörn.
"Reinhardt warned you. If you eat all the cake, I'm going to repair your armor with you in it!!." The man yelled before running to follow the man while Reinhardt laughed.
The night arrives. I reported everything to Winston about the recruitment of Reinhardt and Torbjörn, the scientific ape was very happy to know my progress. Sojourn had made it to Gibraltar without any problem and Tracer had informed us that the transport would arrive tomorrow morning.
I was lying on a sofa trying to sleep. But then I got up when I heard some noises and I saw Reinhardt with a giant hammer, the man was throwing blows but then Reinhardt yelled making me run quickly to where he is.
"Ah!!. My damn back!!." Reinhardt yelled before using the hammer as a cane so he could sit on the ground near his truck.
"Oh, Benja. Sorry if I woke you up, it's just that. The years really didn't do me much good, hehe." Reinhardt said with some pain touching his back.
"Reinhardt. Are you sure you want to go back? It's not that I don't trust you, but if something like this happens to you on a mission you could be in danger." I said with concern but then I saw Reinhardt get up as best he could.
"I have to go back. Because of a promise I made long ago." At that moment I saw Reinhardt open the van and I was amazed to see a giant armor almost destroyed.
"Years ago. I was a lieutenant with the defenders of Germany in the omnic crisis. During my time in service I fought relentlessly and always attacked regardless of the consequences, even though my arrogance and pride clouded my goal as a crusader. Protecting my comrades and be the shield of my team."
"One fateful day. My unit and I fought, we were fighting in an ancient castle in my country. When I thought everything was under control, an assault unit arrived that we had never fought before, with my stupid arrogance I attacked the enemy without realizing that I was on the brink of death. It wasn't until my best friend saved my life from being killed in that instant."
"With no choice, we had to retreat inside the castle to plan a way to survive, we couldn't fight anymore, the priority was to survive long enough for air support to arrive. My friend offered to distract the omnics, I wanted to offer too But that day, it was that I realized that my actions have consequences."
"I realized that it was too late to regret it and that I had to fulfill my obligation. I gave my weapon to my friend so that he could fight alone while I protected the few soldiers that were left alive. My shield fell and I used myself Even as a human shield as the bullets kept hitting me, it felt like it was forever until air support arrived."
"When we returned to the castle, we saw all the assault units destroyed and my best friend sitting on the throne of the lifeless place. From that day I swore that I would not make that mistake anymore, never again. I entered Overwatch and promised myself to myself that I would never lower my shield and that I would never lose anyone again." Reinhardt said seriously before looking at an old Overwatch insignia.
"Live with honor. Die with glory. That, is my oath, one that I will honor until the last day of my life." Reinhardt said determinedly making me look at this in amazement.
"That's why I want to return to Overwatch. I have an oath to keep, and I won't let any more innocent lives suffer." The man said seriously before feeling a hand on his back before turning to face me.
"It certainly shows that you are a very noble person full of determination. What you have done and what you are willing to do are certainly things to respect, and I admire that. I hope we can fight together when we return to Gibraltar, Lieutenant Reinhardt ." I said smiling making the man smile.
"It would be an honor young man. And by the way, you haven't told me anything about yourself. How did you get into this?" The man asked curiously making me smile sheepishly.
"I'm sorry Reinhardt, but I think I'll feel more comfortable talking about this in Gibraltar once the team returns. But maybe I can show you something." I said before stretching out my hand. Suddenly Reinhardt saw a plant grow in my hand before opening its petals, the man was going to say something but then he saw with astonishment a blue gas come out of the plant.
"But what." Reinhardt was going to say something but then he felt his back much better, as if all the pain had completely disappeared without a trace, leaving the man very surprised.
"There are many things that you will need to know about me, Reinhardt. And I will feel very comfortable if everyone is present so that I can say it with more confidence. However, I think I can say that if you need help or are hurt, I can help you." I said smiling before going back inside while Reinhardt looked at everything in surprise but someone else also saw us.
"What was that? That plant grew in his hand." Brigitte said in surprise before walking slowly to the door before carefully opening it so she could see me resting on the couch.
"What are you exactly?" the girl whispered before closing the door to her room before walking to the window to see Reinhardt training.
"Reinhardt. Are you sure this is what you want?" Brigitte asked with concern while Reinhardt laughed in the middle of training.
"Tomorrow will be a long day." the girl said before sighing and going to lie down on her bed to rest.
