BLOOD AND VIOLANCE! I REPEAT THIS CHAPTER HAS THE ACTUAL BITE, SO ZOMBIE ATTACK
'Sunshine'
The last word had barely been a whisper, almost lost behind the sound of Marco's last breath. The blond had literally used his last breath to tell him he loved him, to say his favourite pet name for him, one he loved so much.
Once Ace was sure Marco passed, having listened closely if there were any more breaths... but of course there weren't... He had allowed himself to cry. To really cry his heart out for the loss of his love, his everything.
He couldn't however get lost in his own cries for too long, he didn't know how long it would take before Marco would... wake up... and he had things to do.
As tears still made their way down his cheeks, he reached for the bag he brought. Marco hadn't even noticed he packed the bag, having been out of it for a few minutes before Ace had been able to snap him out of it. But it was better this way, now Ace hadn't needed to find an explanation for the item he brought.
He pulled out a roll of gray ducktape, staring at it for a moment, looking at the tape and their joined hands. He had a plan, he didn't know if it would work, but he hoped it did.
He already thought of this long ago... if anything were to happen to Marco... like it did now...
Marco may have asked him to live on, as his last wish... but... he couldn't. He knew on the inside that Marco wanted him to live with no regrets, how he wanted to live himself, the blond always told him he should do what he want and not let anyone, not even himself, hold him back. The little contradictory statement now was only because the blond wanted him to continue living.
But he couldn't. He knew Marco wouldn't be mad at him, he would be sad, very sad he was going to do this, yet he wouldn't stop him since he's doing it of his own choice. And he had thought of this choice, not just today, but many times over, they were living in an apocalyse after all so death was everywhere... it was bound to cross your mind... the 'what if's'.
And he already knew if something happened to Marco, he wouldn't continue on. Not only because he didn't want to go through this hellhole alone, but he was sure he wouldn't survive long even if he tried. They were stronger as a pair, could fight together and protected each other's backs. They cared for each other when the other was hurt, made sure the other could eat and drink while resting. They could carry more when they moved together. Not less important either... they could love each other. Comfort the other and convince them to keep going when one of them had a rough day and couldn't go on, the other was always there to catch you and preventing your thoughts from spiralling out of control and doing things you might regret.
Everything was better in pairs. And besides all that... he had his Narcolepsy. Marco always said it never mattered to him, his naps were cute. Yea right, he woke up plenty of times from his own snores and a puddle of drool all over himself, cute the blond said then.
He chuckled a bit at it, he loved his boyfriend so much. But... anyway... Marco was there for him when he fell asleep. No matter where they were, the blond protected him. Would protect him until he woke up or would even pick him up to run for safety. He didn't have this protection alone, if he were to go out on a food run tomorrow and fell asleep on the journey, he was done for, he would be bitten before even waking up. Being alone for him was a death-sentence and he rather go out with the one he loved and make sure they could stay together, then to try and live on his own and die anyway.
Bringing up their joined hands he planted a kiss on them and whispered some words of love before getting to work. He pulled at the edge of the tape, pasting it in his own palm so he could hold it securely while he started wrapping. Wrapping it around their wrists and up their arms, over and over and over again. He kept going until he got the roll empty. It wasn't a full one, they had found it on the street and only used it to repair small things, yet as he tugged at their joined hands it seemed sturdy. This should keep them together. Even when Marco and him wouldn't remember what holding hands was, what staying together meant to them, this would keep them together.
A little smile on his lips at his idea maybe working, he spend the rest of the time resting against the other and looking at the sunset, picturing it was them watching it like they did so often.
Some time later he had to blink, "huh?" He looked down to their hands poking out of the tape, seeing Marco's hand move. Lightly squeezing.
"Mar?" A little hope in his eye as he squeezed back. Was Marco okay somehow? Squeezing his hand.
Looking up his smile however fell, because ofcourse Marco's eyes were still closed and he was quickly growing pale, some veins becoming more obvious under the skin.
He bit his lip. Dead. Taking a breath he looked forward again to the setting sun, just squeezing the still lukewarm hand back, he could imagine they were still holding ha-
"ah- Mar, that's a little hard." he said as he loosened his hand a bit or tried to loosing it, but the hold stayed there.
"Mar, can you- please a little looser."
"Mar- ah- p-please, that's too hard."
"You're- you're hurting me. Marco- Marco please."
The pressure on his hand kept increasing, it hurt, it hurt so much. If Marco kept going he was going to break his hand! But- but he wouldn't- this was his loving boyfr-
"AH Marco!" tears gathered in his eyes as the strength went up another notch, he couldn't even properly close his hand anymore to hold onto the other. Fingers fully outstretched to try and make his hand as small as possible, shy away from the grip.
"S-stop- Mar, Mar, Marco, Marco! Please- s-stop stop stop stop! It hurts! It hurts Marco! Sto-"
SNAP
"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH"
A scream of pure pain ripped from his throat as he felt it, his bones giving in and snapping under the immense pressure. Tears and snot streaming down his face as he sobbed, unable to even cradle his own hand with how he linked them together.
He was pathetic. He thought to himself as he tore his eyes away from their hands and back to the sky. Sobs still breaking out of him as he tried to ignore the blooming pain. He chose this. He put himself in this situation. Marco told him to leave him, to go back to their apartment and live there safe and sound so he couldn't hurt him. Yet he stayed. He stayed because he wanted to stay together. And now look at him. Face full of tears and snot and the blond hadn't even actually attacked him yet, didn't even seem really zombie conscious yet.
"I-I-I... I l-love you- I love yo-you, Marco"
He stuttered out when he could, the pain in his hand starting to leave a little after a while, a pure feeling of hotness taking over. "I love you so much." he said again, leaning his head over to the other. He had to say it, for himself, for Marco. He still loved him. This wasn't Marco hurting him. Marco would never hurt him. Marco would be in more pain than him if he knew he did this.
He hated it that he couldn't properly feel Marco's hand anymore, or squeeze back with his broken hand, but he couldn't do anything about it. At least he could still rest against the other, have his Prescence, a faint smell of the other still there. "Love you, love you."
He kept whispering over and over, even after the sun set, he kept it up until his eyes closed and he fell asleep.
He woke up as he felt movement next to him.
"hmm? Marco?" Voice full of sleep he rubbed his eye as he turned to the other. Instantly awake as he saw the other's body tremble and spasm.
"M-Marco, a-are you- o-okay?"
Marco wasn't' okay, of course he wasn't and he knew that... still ... he hoped... he had hoped the transformation would be …. like... less frightening... just... die and wake up... not like this... Marco seemed to be in pain. He didn't like that. Marco shouldn't suffer more than he did.
He flinched as Marco threw his head from side to side, teeth grinding onto each other so hard Ace could hear the scraping.
When he heard a few weird snaps, like- like how his bone breaking had sounded, he slowly reached over his free hand to touch the blond's cheek.
"Marc-"
The second he touched him all hell broke loose. In seconds Marco's eyes shot open and he was chewing on something, face a bloody mess.
"H-huh? W-wha-"
In shock he took his burning hand back, confused why there was blood running down his arm until he noticed it, "a-ah" his thumb- his thumb was missing.
Slowly he turned to look at the blond, just in time to see him swallow and turn to him. Growling menacingly, showing teeth stained red.
"I-I-" tears welled in his eyes, this was it. This was the end. "I-I-" c'mon voice! He had to get it out! "I-I- Marco- I- I love-I love y-AAAAAH!"
The next minutes were pure and utter agony. Screams and growling filled the rooftop, his only comfort... kind of comfort... Is that he could recognise Marco's voice in the growls, it was the one thing he tried to focus on. Together with thinking back about their happy days. About their future plans, what they would do when this whole thing would be over.
It wouldn't happen anymore, nothing of it. Even in this pain he didn't regret his decision. Nothing of their plans could be fulfilled anymore, and he didn't want to try alone. It wouldn't be the same. So he didn't fight back as Marco tore into him.
He however couldn't stop his screams of pain as the other teared into him, and he had tried to push the other off for a few solid seconds as an instinct until he remembered this was Marco and he was able to stop himself and let the blond do as he pleased. He kind of hoped he tasted well for Marco.
A wet chuckle left him between cries. Marco would probably say he was delicious if he could no matter if he was or wasn't. His silly blond boyfriend.
Suddenly his vision was filled with said blond, the zombie just looking at him for a few solid seconds, giving Ace a chance to somewhat say goodbye before all breath left him and his screams got cut off as the blond tore into his throat.
He had blacked out for a second, but returned to the conscious world to see the sky moving. He realised Marco was pulling him along as the blond had started walking the roof, probably having had his fill. The stars were pretty tonight...
He watched the twinkles in the dark, pain had long since vanished, and by the wetness he felt on his back, he could guess the bloodloss may be a very good reason. How he was still alive he didn't know, but it wouldn't be long.
It however didn't matter, they would be together soon. They promised they would say together. Promised each other their love and whole being.
As his consciousness started fading, he remembered their promise of so long ago.
'Until death do us part... and beyond.'
A smile graced his lips right before he passed, he did it, Marco. They did it. Their hands were still sturdy linked together, the tape not having loosened during everything, not even as his whole weight was being pulled at. He would soon become a zombie too and they would roam this world together, hand in hand.
They would be together, forever.
My budget for drawings is empty... so you'll all have to do with my lil drawings. I'm in a mood to make lil drawings even if bad, so be prepared in other stories too. And no one can stop them! Mwhahahhaha!
- Meaning... yeap! I got another drawing for this story you can find on my Wattpad and AO3! Still waiting for the day to come that I can post pictures on fanfiction itself.
