Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Mask of the dragon. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own Avatar, Nick, Michael Dante DiMartino, and Bryan Konietzko do.
(Fire Nation Royal Palace, 1 year ago.)
"You are very well aware a coup would get you killed… Yes?" Sachi asked his friend. "Nobody can face Ozai besides your father. You would last only a few hours." Sachi stated while crossing his arms.
"Ozai will not stop until he burns down the rest of the world." Azula responded while taking a deep breath. "I should point out that he's already made plans. Ozai knows just how dangerous my uncle is to his plans. If Iroh was to rebel against Ozai? Thousands of people would join up." Azula stated as Sachi hummed.
Sachi sighed and rubbed at his temples. Azula was so hard to read that Sachi could never once read her at all.
"Should I point out your father is a monster?" Sachi asked Azula. She didn't move from her cross-legged position on the floor. "He wont spare you if you go against him. Ozai has already burned an entire village to the ground… Over not giving up crops for the war effort. Your father wants slaves, not people. Puppets that bend to his very well." Sachi added with a sigh.
"And you think doing nothing at all is better?" Azula questioned as she rose to her feet. "I should know for a fact that my father is dangerous. I know for a fact that what I'm doing is treason in his eyes. I'm not backing down, Sachi." Azula put in while Sachi looked away.
Azula looked at her friend and crossed over to the window of her room. It was quiet. Azula both hated and enjoyed the quiet. It allowed her to relax and feel some measure of peace without the Turtleducks here.
But then part of that? The quiet? It reminded Azula of what her father had taken from her. Something that couldn't easily be replaced no matter what.
"We're going to have to move quick." Sachi stated, pulling the princess from her thoughts. He walked next to Azula with a frown. "I don't like this, but I know you. Ozai is going on a war path and so will you. What do you need from me? I know you already have a ship and crew for me." Sachi said which made Azula hum.
"Mai and Ty Lee." Azula said as Sachi blinked and a raised an eyebrow.
"You have to be kidding me." Sachi said before looking at Azula. "Ok. I'll track them down." Sachi said and then turned and left her room.
Sachi knew Azula rarely joked about anything.
(Current day.)
"You want me to give this to your brother?" Iroh asked with a raised eyebrow. There was a massive red bow wrapped in silk on the present. The black box looked like Azula had gift wrapped it herself.
"Yes." Azula said and let out a hum with it as well. "You have to deliver it." Azula said as Iroh frowned and looked to the side.
Iroh wasn't stupid enough to think Azula had ill intent behind the gift. Iroh was well aware that Azula loved her brother. It just didn't happen in public. Nobody could really be happy around the Fire Lord.
"He'll think I gave it to him rather then you." Iroh said while looking around. "Why do you insist on this façade?" Iroh questioned before Azula looked around.
She leaned in close to the side.
"You think I've wanted to do this, Uncle?" Azula said, clenching her fists as her nails cut at her hands. "I hate every blasted second that I have to do this. But if Ozai knew his 'prized princess' of a daughter plotted against him? He'd kill Zuko just to spite me." Azula stated while rubbing at her temples.
"Family is an important aspect of life, Azula." Iroh said as Azula nodded and tapped the present.
"That's why I'm trusting the only family I have left, Uncle." Azula said before turning. "Even if I wanted to? Zuko would ruin that present… There's something he needs to see… Something more valuable to this family then even gold. I trust you with it because you've never turned your back on this family." Azula stated before allowing the man to leave.
Azula wanted to give the gift to her brother. It was something that both needed. But Azula remembered that she had promised someone very close to her heart. She couldn't open it. Azula already knew what was inside.
"I'm going to tell him the truth on his birthday." Iroh said as Azula nodded. "You can't keep the truth from your brother forever." Iroh put in before Azula sighed.
"Do what you feel is right, Uncle." Azula said before cupping her hands together. "You always do." Azula said as she walked away. She cracked her neck and looked to the side.
Azula walked inside and let out a hum. She had to check on Sachi.
