Shantae and Triton climbed high and low out of the underground tunnels. Triton was still lagging behind Shantae after his last battle against the tubeworm siren. All he could think about was him wondering if he would be a siren himself.
Along the way, a large lobster creature popped out of the ground. The sudden surprise made Triton's eyes shoot a laser beam at the creature. Shantae and Triton were shocked at this newfound ability.
"How did you do that?" Shantae asked.
"I don't know," replied Triton. He tightens his grips and looks back at the knocked down creature. "But I'm about to find out."
The lobster gets back up, preparing to fight again. Triton concentrated on his eye sockets to make another laser beam come out of his eyes. And he did, as his eyes glowed white, a large beam fired at the lobster's peepers, blinding the creature and scurried off.
'Wow,' thought Triton. 'I didn't know that I could do that. But this ability looks oddly familiar.'
"That was cool," said Shantae. "Come on, the exit's not far from here." The two reach the exit and return to Arena Town.
Triton smiles at the town he explored, but his smile disappears watching the citizens' behaviors. Some of them grew scared and sad. Others equipped themselves with some armor styled in Armor Town. Triton grew curious, and asked the townsfolk what's going on.
Most of them replied with the same answers. Answers he thought he didn't want to hear. 'The mayor is worried.' 'There's sightings of a monster.' 'It could be anywhere.' 'The scientists proved it exists.'
Triton was shocked with the answers, for his worst fears were about to come true. To avoid any more suspicion, he takes a yellow poncho and covers himself, hiding his identity to the crowd.
Shantae called Triton out from the crowd. "Triton," she called. "Triton!"
"Over here." Triton waved his hand signaling the half genie his location.
"Why do you have that poncho on?" She asked. "Is it going to rain soon?"
"It's not that," said Triton. "The mayor announced that the monster is wandering around the island. And now everyone is scared stiff that they're equipped with armor. They won't even allow anymore tourists on the island and are making sure that everyone is certified citizens. I'm telling you Shantae, the scientists have ratted me out."
"It's okay," said Shantae. "They don't know it's you."
"Yet," said Triton. "Any more strange abilities I have could give me away."
"Until then, just try to keep them hidden," she said. "Now come on, Armor Town is that way." She points to the far side of the island and races off, leaving Triton in tow.
Triton sighed and started making his way to Armor Town. Along the way, an elderly citizen called out, "Beware! Beware! The ghost has been spotted!"
Triton turned around. The sound of her screams got his attention.
"The ghost has returned! Save your children! Avoid Tree Town! The ghost will torment you to the end of your days! The wandering privateer is upon us all!"
Then the town's security deal comes out to escort the elderly woman home. But Triton's curiosity started to turn in his head. 'A ghost privateer?' He thought. He takes out the sketch of the siren and looks back at the bones of the pirate he dug up. 'Is there a connection to this?'
Then all of a sudden, Triton hears the call of a bird coming down. The bird starts pecking on his head. The bird was covered in pink, purple, blue, and light blue feathers. Triton was surprised and started waving his hands around trying to shoe the bird.
"Agh! What the?! Get off me! Scat! Scram!"
With the wave of his hand, he smacks the bird in the air. And the bird raises his talons and starts ripping the poncho off of him. The scuttle lasted for a few more minutes, and then…
"Wrench! Here! Now!"
The call of the young girl caused the bird to return to her and perch on her gloved hand.
"I'm so sorry about that," she said. "He's usually very well behaved."
"It's okay," said Triton. "It's just pain. Something I'm used to."
"Are you sure you're okay?" She asked.
Triton turns to the girl and realizes who she is. "Yeah, I'm fine," he said. "Are you Sky?"
Sky, the girl who has encountered Triton, was surprised. "How do you know my name?" She asked.
"Your friend Shantae told me about you," said Triton.
"How do you know Shantae?" Sky asked.
"Follow me and I'll tell you everything," said Triton.
Along the way, Triton explained to Sky all the details of their adventure together. While he's talking, he keeps out certain details of his secret life. Even though Sky is Shantae's friend, he is still wary of his own secret being revealed. Sky had a curious look at the stutters and the gaps in his sentences. Her bird Wrench just glared down at the hidden hybrid like he knew what he was hiding.
The two eventually make their way to the entrance of Armor Town. The entire town was covered with metal plates and the residents were equipped with shoulder pads and swords. Triton was impressed with the scenery, hence the name of Armor Town.
"Now where did Shantae go?" Sky asked.
"Her half genie friend, Zapple, told us to meet her here somewhere," replied Triton. "See if you and your bird can find her on the edge of town. I'll check the town square."
Sky nodded and left, but Wrench couldn't stop glaring down on Triton. Triton left to continue his search for Zapple. Then out of nowhere, Wrench attacks Triton again. "Gah! Stop it Wrench!" He called.
"Wrench!" Sky called to the bird. "I'm sorry, He just really likes fish. It's his favorite treat."
Triton nodded and made his way to the main forgery where he encountered a strange figure. He was dressed in red with a yellow scarf and brown gloves and shoulder pads. The figure had a goatee and mustache, and one eye.
"Excuse me," said Triton. "Can you help me out?"
"Greetings friend," he said. "Armor Baron is the name, and defense is my game."
"Armor Baron? Not like Squid Baron, right?" Triton asked.
"Oh no," said Armor Baron. "Just because we have Baron in our name doesn't mean we are related."
"Triton!" Triton turns around to find Shantae entering the main forgery. "I was able to find Zapple and she said she would-"
"My my," said Armor Baron. "Who's this lovely lady?"
Triton shoved himself between the two. "Excuse me, but that lady is my friend. If you wish to do business, I suggest you remain professional."
Then, a caw was heard and Wrench came back to peck on Triton. "Gah! Blasted Bird!"
"Is that Wrench?" Shantae asked.
"I can't believe it!" The three turn to see Sky enter the scene. She geeks out at the sight of Armor Baron. "It's Ammo Baron's brother!"
"So Sky," said Shantae. "You finally got off your rump. I thought nothing could ever make you leave the pool."
Sky glares down at Shantae with the big sister look. "You. You're lucky you weren't alone all this time. This young man here told me how you and him worked together to fight the sirens and Risky Boots. If I'd known you were in trouble, I would have dropped everything and rushed to your aid!" She looks over to the two male characters. "And to think I could've met your smelly friend and this rugged stallion."
"Hey!" Triton cried. "I'm not that smelly. Am I?" He sniffs his armpit that smells of fresh fish. "Hmm, not bad."
"So," said Shantae. She turns to Armor Baron. "You're really Ammo Baron's brother?"
"Indeed I am," replied Armor Baron.
Sky blushed, "He must've got the good looks in the family, eh?"
"Still," said Triton. "I don't trust him."
"Relax," said Armor Baron. "I'm not belligerent, bellowing, like my dear sweet brother. I may love him though, but his actions weigh heavily on my heart."
"You mean you're a good guy?" Shantae asked.
"Don't assume that," said Triton. "Never judge a book by its cover."
Armor Baron crosses his arms and smiles at the three. "Listen," he said. "I understand your concern. But please withhold the harsh judgment my namesake has surely earned. Give me a chance to demonstrate my pure intentions. After all, it is the mature thing to do."
Armor Baron leans down and takes Sky's hand and kisses it, making her swoon like crazy.
"Your lovely friend Sky has made me a proposition."
Not wanting to hear Armor Baron's proposition, Triton sneaks out of the main forge. "There's something about that dude I don't like." He takes his leave and finds another poncho in the dumpster. However, he was unaware that it had a little doll stuffed in its pocket.
He takes the poncho and covers himself again. Then he decided to wait for Shantae and plan their next move. She comes out with sparkles in her eyes and what looked like a little notebook in her hands.
"Triton," she said. "Where did you go? Didn't you want to hear Armor Baron's proposition?"
"I still don't trust him," he said. "He's up to something. I can feel it."
"You're not upset that he's helping me and Sky are you?" Shantae asked with a grin.
Triton was stunned, but remained sterned. "I'm serious Shantae. What if he's setting up a trap just to capture us? The townsfolk on this island are getting very edgy." He takes out his illustration and looks at it.
"There was someone who called out that there was a ghost ship located on the far side of Tree Town. I think we should go there and investigate."
"That's not a bad idea," said Shantae. "Maybe we can find the three ore chunks near the white sand dunes at the same time.."
"What are you talking about?" Triton asked. "The white sand dunes are on this side of the island. Also, what are the ore chunks?"
"Well," said Shantae. "Armor Baron proposed that if we could get the three ore chunks for him, he'll be able to forge the ultimate, xtreme, powers unleashed half genie armor. Doesn't that sound amazing? We can use that armor to protect ourselves from any foe."
"I'm still against helping out that Baron," said Triton. "If he's anything like Squid Baron, he'll attack the first chance he gets."
"He's doing this as a gesture of good will," argued Shantae. "And he gave me this codebook too. It should help us to fight back against the sirens. You should try listening to others better."
Triton sighed in annoyance, "Look, we don't have much time to argue. Let's just go to the other side of the island and decide what to do from there."
Not wanting to fight anymore, Triton and Shantae race off to the other side of the island back to Tree Town. Along the way, Shantae stopped at Arena town to give the Mayor the codebook. But Triton didn't stop. He kept on running and eventually made his way into the farthest depths of the island.
He turned around to find that Shantae stopped following him and he grunted in annoyance. 'What does that Baron think he is offering stylish armor to those two girls?' He thought. 'I don't need special armor to protect myself if I can make armor from my bare hands. Who needs his craftsmanship? Fine, I'll go ahead myself.'
Soon, Triton finds himself in the tunnels called the Sunken Shipyard. In these tunnels lie numerous sunken destroyed ships of wandering sailors traveling in the sirens' waters. There are broken masts, torn sails, hinges, hooks, ropes, and loose planks scattered all over the tunnels.
Triton uses his sonic screeching, his body armor, his laser eyes, and his hypnotic voice to fight off the creatures lurking in the caverns. The caves grew darker and darker the more he crawled into the depths of the island. Never had he felt so vulnerable in the dark.
Then, a voice was heard in the wind. "Siren, begone…" Triton turned around, hoping to hear the source of the voice. It sounded raspy and chilly.
"Who's there?" He asked.
Then, a ghost appeared floating in front of the hybrid. The ghost had a privateer hat on his head, dressed in patriot gear and sporting a spirited snake in his left eye socket.
"I fear you not," he said. "I have no life left to take."
Triton put his hands up, not wanting to start a quarrel with the ghost. "Relax, I'm not going to fight you," he said. "I'm just here looking for answers."
The ghost floated around the young man with a curious gaze in its eye sockets. "Hmm, those eyes. It's like I've seen them before."
Triton stood defiant, "You have no idea who I am, spectator. But I have a hunch who you are." He takes out the illustration and shows it to the ghost. "Do you recognize this?"
The ghost takes the drawing and becomes a tad more pale than before. "This is my cabin boy's drawing," he said. "And you have the same eyes as he does."
Triton stood in shock, and so did the ghost. "It can't be… you're his son?" The ghost asked. "The tales were true."
"What are you talking about?" Triton asked.
"The tale of the human and the siren is true," said the ghost. "My name is Captain Beckett Dangles; your father's captain."
Triton became as pale as the ghost himself. "Wh-Wha- My father's captain?!"
"That's right," said Beckett. "And this is your father's drawing. The one he showed to me before he returned to the island to meet his love and hopefully you."
Triton felt his head spinning around in the room. He started putting the pieces together. The tales of the human and siren in love told by pirates for almost twenty years. The fact that Triton has been alone almost his whole life, and the abilities he possesses gave him questions about who he is. Then, he discovers the illustration made by his father, and meets the ghost of his captain. The eighth siren who mysteriously disappeared in the same amount of time.
It all started to make sense to Triton. "If my father was in love with a siren. And if the eighth siren was lost. All my abilities, the same as hers. My eyes, the same as my father's. Then that means,"
…
…
…
…
…
…
…
"I am…"
…
…
…
…
…
"A Half-Siren!?"
"I can see the siren within you," said Beckett. "But there's more to you than meets the eye. Because you wish for more."
Triton remained frozen in place as Beckett floated in circles around him. "What brings you down here in these caves?" He asked.
Triton shook his head back to reality and focused on the ghost. "My friend Shantae and I are looking for the other half genies that were taken by the sirens. They dragged them down in the tunnels of this island and we need to search everywhere if we're going to find them."
Beckett looked closer at the hybrid then said, "Maybe you speak the truth. But sirens are very clever with lying. And since you're a half siren, how do I know you're not lying?"
"What do I have to do to get you to believe there's some good in me like my father? What if there's some of my father's allegiance in my heart?"
Beckett was concerned, but knew to give Triton a chance. "There is one thing you can do. Do a good deed, like a Genie would do. Then, I'll know you are worthy of trust."
"Okay," said Triton. "What do you need me to do?"
"Return my scary doll to me," said Beckett. "I lost it when I crashed on this island long ago looking for your father."
But Beckett looks into Triton's pocket in his poncho and sees a doll that looks scary. "My Scary Doll!" He cried. "You already found it?!"
Triton took it out of his pocket and was stunned, "I didn't know. I guess it was in the poncho I found in the dumpster and didn't think it mattered."
Beckett takes the doll and flies in the air hugging it. "Thank you so much, half siren. Maybe there is humanity within you after all. Here, take this as a token of my appreciation."
Beckett gives Triton a fusion stone and he smiles with glee. "Thank you so much, this could do wonders for Shantae."
Beckett then pulls out a skeleton key and opens the chambers behind them. "This passage will lead you to the darker passages of the tunnels," he said. "But beware, for the siren that lives down there sees things that others do not."
"Then I'll have to get my friend and go down there with her," said Triton. "Thanks for the help Beckett." He turns back to the exit and makes his way up to the surface. Beckett's ghost then disappears into thin air with his scary doll in his hand.
Back on the surface, Triton was racing across the island back to Armor Town. Along the way, he was pecked again by Wrench. "Gah! Wrench! Stop that!"
But this time, it was different. Wrench looked worried and scared and I kept chirping in front of Triton. Triton studied the bird's behavior very carefully and realized that something was wrong. "Where's Shantae?"
Wrench took Triton by his hair and pulled him close to Armor Town. There, he saw a couple of smiths throwing something in the dumpster. After they left, Triton sneaks into the garbage and finds Sky's bird glove and hood.
"That's Sky's," he said. "Wait here." He glares at the entrance of the main forge and enters calmly. Upon entering the forge, he locks the door behind him. There, he stands toe to toe with Armor Baron.
"Oh uh, hello there," he said. "Are you here for your set of armor?"
"Where's Shantae and Sky?" Triton asked. "What have you done with them?"
"Don't worry about them," replied Armor Baron. "They're in mint condition in their new armor."
Triton wasn't in the mood for his smooth talks or games. He goes up to Armor Baron, grabs him by the collar and throws him across the room. With his blood boiling at his friend missing, Triton takes off his poncho and starts turning into his newly known siren form. His appearance frightened Armor Baron with his sharp teeth and razor claws.
Triton picks him up again and throws him across the room. He pummels his face without hesitation. "WHERE ARE THEY!?" He bellowed. Then he slashed his face with his clawed hand. "WHERE ARE THEY!?"
Some of the townsfolk could hear the ruckus from outside, but quickly assumed Armor Baron was just working on a new set of armor. Armor Baron was covered with cuts, bruises, dirt marks, and bite marks. Breathing heavily, and coughing from the attacks, he couldn't take it anymore.
"Guess it goes to show," said Triton. "You can never judge a book by its cover. Now where is Shantae and Sky!?"
"Okay, Okay, I'll talk!" Armor Aron cried. "I sold them to a collector. He was very insistent that they were in mint condition."
"Who did you sell them to?" Triton asked. "WHO!?"
"S-squid Baron," replied Armor.
"That squid freak!?" Triton gasped. "Where is he?!"
After more intense interrogation, Armor Baron gives away Squid Baron's location to Triton. Triton dives into the caves near Armor town and makes his way to the front entrance. He makes a high pitched scream and knocks down the door.
He finds Squid Baron, covered in bandages and a black eye. "Gah!" He screamed. "You? What are you doing here?"
Triton didn't give an answer. He basically walked up to Squid Baron and beat him to a pulp. He took his living room chair and threw it at the squid. Then, he grabs a rack of shelves and slams it down on the chair that's pinning Squid Baron.
"No!" He cried. "My collections! They won't be valuable enough to finance my game!"
But Triton didn't care. He slammed more racks of shelves on the squid and then left him where he lied. Squid Baron was in intense pain, he could barely move. Triton just walked further into Squid Baron's lair until he could find his friend.
And he did. He finds Shantae and Sky trapped in plastic boxes styled in skimpy armor that made Triton blush like crazy. "Shantae, Sky," he said. "What happened?"
"Armor Baron tricked us," said Shantae. "He fashioned this armor to keep us in place."
"I- woah," said Triton. Stunned at their appearance, he felt something drip down his nose. He wipes it off, looking confused. "I haven't been hit in the face lately," he said. "How is this happening?"
"It's because," said Shantae. Now it was her turn to blush. "It's a natural thing when boys see very hot girls in outfits like these."
"Why are you explaining this to him?" Sky asked. "Just get us out of here!"
Triton shook his head and went straight to rescuing them. He ripped off the plastic material surrounding the girls and broke them free from their collective prison. Then Wrench comes in with a bag containing their original attire.
"Thanks Wrench," said Sky. "Would you excuse us, Triton?"
"Sure," he said. "Come on Wrench," He takes Wrench in the other room so the girls can change out of their heavy armor. Then Wrench started pecking Triton in the face again. "What is with you?" He asked.
Shantae and Sky come out looking better in their old attire. "Whew, that's much better," said Shantae.
"I don't like to be the guy who says I told you so," said Triton. "But I told you so."
"Sorry I didn't listen to you," said Shantae. "You were right; never judge a book by its cover."
Triton smiled and nodded. Sky was still steaming with anger over how she was tricked. "I am going to beat that Armor Baron with his own armor!" She yelled.
"I think Armor Baron's going to change his name to Bandage Armor," said Triton. "He won't be a problem to you guys anymore."
"Wow," said Sky. "Who'd have thought you were quite the fighter."
"I'm the one who isn't going to be made a fool of," said Triton. "So let's stay on the same path."
"Agreed," said Sky. "You guys go on ahead and find those missing girls. I'll go back up topside and wait for you there." Triton and Shantae nod as Sky and Wrench make their way out of the tunnel.
"Triton," said Shantae. "Thank you for freeing us."
Triton smiled. "I wasn't going to let some squid freak treat you and your friend like objects. Nature should be respected, like humans and hybrids."
"Okay," said Shantae. "But I would like to ask you something. Do you like my usual attire or did you like my armor?"
Triton was surprised she would ask him something like that. So he took a deep breath and said, "I'll be honest. It was exciting seeing you wear that armor. But honestly, I like seeing you wearing your comfortable clothing, as that's the true you."
Shantae blushed at what her friend said and smiled. "Triton, that is so sweet of you to say. Thank you."
"You're welcome," said Triton. "Oh, I almost forgot." He takes out the fusion stone from his pocket and gives it to her. "You take this to Zapple and get your new ability. I'll go back to the sunken shipyard and wait for you there."
Shantae smiled and nodded. But before he could go, Triton gets a quick hug from Shantae. "Again, thanks for rescuing us." Triton nodded again and made haste to the shipyard.
Along the way back, Triton finds a batch of what looked like Melba toast. He instantly remembers Bolo's request and races back to Tree Town. As he returns to the village, he finds the villagers on lockdown. The men were armed with spears, while most of the women and children were locked in their huts.
He finds a leaf poncho and covers himself until he can reach Bolo. Bolo was watching the villagers stay on guard. He started feeling anxious about what's going to happen next. Then he spots Triton approaching him.
"Triton! Thank goodness you're alright," he said.
"Bolo," said Triton. "What are you talking about? What's going on around here?"
"There's been an incident in Armor Town," said Bolo. "Apparently, Armor Baron's been beaten until he couldn't see from his only good eye. The last thing he saw was a human turning into a sea monster and slashing his face asking for information. The mayor has put the island on high alert."
Triton started to get worried. His temper nearly got him exposed, and it's only a matter of time until the truth comes out. But all that mattered to him was that Shantae was safe.
Bolo's stomach starts to growl. "Ugh, I'm so hungry," he said.
Triton takes out the Melba Toast and gives it to his friend in hopes of calming him down. "Maybe this'll calm your nerves?"
Bolo gazes at the snack with joy and swipes it out of his hands to feed on it. "Thank you so much Triton," he said. "What would I do without a friend like you?"
Triton felt a bit edgy with what Bolo said, considering the fact that the citizens of the island are on edge as well. He thought, 'What if he knew the truth about me? Would things be different? Would he not want to be my friend anymore? Would he hate me?'
Then, Shantae came by giving off electric sparks from the sway of her hips. "That's my cue," said Triton. "I'll catch you later, Bolo."
"No problem," he said. "Here, take these nuts and bolts. They taste terrible, but I think you can use them for something else." Triton takes the sack of nuts and bolts and follows Shantae down into the caves.
Meanwhile, back in the hidden caverns, the Empress Siren loomed over the last two surviving subjects awaiting further instructions. "Thanks to our eyes and ears, we may have a way to split up both those hybrids."
She approaches the siren with strange multiple eyes and grinned. "Go make sure that phase one is complete," said the Empress. The siren nodded and crawled through a dark passage leading to the Sunken Shipyard. "Once she shows him he can trust no one, he'll be all ours." She cackles crazy and the echoes bounce through the caverns.
Back in the shipyard, the two enter a very dark path that leads deeper into the ground. Triton looked down with a firm look, but an open eye to the dangers below. "Remember what I said?" he asked Shantae. "That the depths are a hostile place, or a prison. Be ready for anything in the dark."
"Unless we show them the light," said Shantae. "Check out this new dance power Zapple lent to me." She sways her hips to a silent rhythm. Causing electricity to form from her legs. Just as she performed a finishing pose, a spark hit a metal rod. That caused the entire cave to light up with hidden lights surrounding them.
"Well if there's one thing nocturnal fish can't stand, it's light," said Triton. "Let's go!"
Shortly after, The two reach another room where they get blocked off by locked doors. It was there that a familiar pirate came falling down to greet them again. "Don't move!" Risky ordered.
"Hello Risky," said Triton. "To what do we owe the pleasure of you coming here?"
"I've come for an added bonus to my treasure hunt," grinned Risky. "The mayor has added a substantial reward for the capture and incarceration of the monster that has been terrorizing the island."
Triton stood in fear, and tried not to make a facial expression to give away to the clever pirate. "What monster?" Shantae asked.
"Don't play dumb runt," said Risky. She draws her sword and points it directly at Triton. "I knew that your new boyfriend would be something special."
"I'm/He's not her/my boyfriend!" Shantae and Triton said.
"Hmm," huffed Risky. "I knew he was special the moment we first met. All I had to do was wait until you two were separated and I could enact a parlay with him. I knew he was more intent on finding more details about his past, so I influenced him to hear my discoveries. All so that I could deduce the fact that he is in fact a hybrid."
"But what is your other half?" Risky asked Triton. "After what my tinkerbats heard, it could only lead to one thing."
Scared at what she was going to say next, and fearful that Shantae might think things differently if she found out, Triton takes the first swing and bashes Risky's face with his coral fist.
"If you want the reward money," said Triton. "You're going to have to fight for it!" He gets in a fighting stance and prepares to fight.
Shantae stands right beside him and prepares herself. "I've got your back, Triton," she said. "No matter what!"
Risky frowned at the statement and prepared to fight the two hybrids once again. She performed the same attacks she did the last time she fought them. But this time, Triton changed his battle plans. When Risky shot at them with her pistol, Triton used his laser eyes to hit the pirate. When risky calls upon her tinkerbats, Triton screeched them until their ears exploded. And as she dashed from one end of the room to the other, Triton used his coral arms to combat and parry the pirate.
With little energy left from fighting off the hybrids, Risky Boots fell to her knee. "Risky, stop doing this!" Shantae cried. But Risky leapt out of the room with no answer. Then the doors were unlocked and the two pressed on.
In the next room, Triton and Shantae find another half genie locked in the same cage. "Shantae, who's that?" Triton asked.
"That's Harmony!" Shantae cheered. She approached the cage, getting Harmony's attention. "Harmony!"
Harmony started to wake up, feeling drowsy and weak. "Shantae?"
"Are you okay?" Triton asked. "We're here to rescue you." Triton and Shantae pry open the cage, letting Harmony out of her prison cell.
"Where am I?" asked Harmony. "Where are the others? Did you find them?"
"Plink Vera, and Zapple are home safe," said Shantae. "I still need to find Fillin."
Harmony perked up feeling confused. "Fillin?"
"The zombie half genie," replied Shantae.
"She told me her name was Ima," said Harmony. "Ima Goodgirl."
"Hold up," said Triton. "Ima Goodgirl? That is by far the weakest lie I have ever heard. And I'm not that social. No good girl would name themselves Ima Goodgirl." Then, a question popped in his head. "Harmony, is there such a thing as a zombie half genie?"
Harmony shook her head. "Nope. She's not a half genie," she said. "I knew right away, but she seemed to need a friend."
"Oh, so you played along with her lie?" Triton asked.
"Of course," replied Harmony. "I wanted to make her feel welcome on the island."
"Okay," said Triton. "So if she's not Ima Goodgirl, and she's not Fillin. Then who is this person?"
Shantae facepalmed herself, making Triton and Harmony turn around. "Shantae? Do you know who it is?" Triton asked.
"Unfortunately I do," she replied. "Lying, attention starved. A trouble making, cosplaying, zombie. That girl is my friend: RottyTops."
"Please forgive me," said Harmony. "She's mixed up in this mess because of me."
"Well," said Triton. "Then it's up to us to get her friend back. No way are we going to leave her like this."
"And you will, by using this," said Harmony. She gives Shantae another fusion coin. One with a frog engraving on it.
"Another fusion coin," said Shantae. "What does this do?"
"It bears the marking of a sea frog," said Harmony. "Sea frogs can swim through salt water at super high speed."
Shantae jumps into the water below and takes the form of a sea frog. Triton prepares to follow after her. "Go out the way we came in and we'll meet you when we get the chance," he said.
"You know you don't have to hide your other half from me," said Harmony. "I know you're a hybrid of a sea creature."
Triton was stunned at what she said. Then realized that she's much more powerful and older than the other half genies. "Look, I only went along with Shantae to help her rescue you and the others. But I didn't want anyone else to know who I am because…"
"Because you're afraid that you don't know yourself that anyone could call you what you hate?" Harmony asked. "I understand. If it makes you feel better, and helps you carry on your quest with Shantae, I promise not to tell anyone. Not even Shantae's friends."
Triton nodded, "Thank you." Then he jumped into the water, turning himself into his sea creature form.
The two swam and swam deeper into the ground below. The caverns grew darker and darker, but that didn't stop the two from continuing any further. The more creatures they fought the more the two worked together. Until they came across another large door, leading to the fourth siren's lair.
"Ready?" Triton asked.
Shantae smiled and replied, "Rect-2-Go!" They open the door and let themselves in.
Inside the siren's lair, they look around to find her. Triton looks up and points to the siren. The siren looked like the oldest of the bunch, with crows feet at the bottom of her eyes, and messy hair covering up her left one. She was covered in reddish brown attire all the way up to her shoulders. And dangling above her head was another eyeball.
"Well, well, well," said the siren. "So glad you could make it this far."
"Come on down and fight," said Triton.
"Gladly," she said. The siren travels at a fast pace, almost like she disappeared. The two try looking for her, only for the siren to appear right behind them. Shantae screamed, and Triton put his guard up.
"Get ready for the pain!" cried the Angler Fish Siren.
The two hybrids charge at their enemy, only for her to disappear again. She appears on top of the ledge and uses her siren powers to summon eyeball projectors and fire on them. Shantae and Triton duck and wait for the eyeballs to disappear.
The siren summons another batch of eyeballs to her disposal, and Triton gets an idea. "Hey Shantae, I've been thinking. That special dance move you do to summon electricity. Do you think we can use that to amplify my laser eyes?"
Shantae was most surprised, "I don't know. But we can try."
Shantae and Triton get in formation and prepare to try and combine their magic. Shantae starts swaying her hips, causing electricity to appear. Triton's eyes started to glow white, and waited for the eyeballs to come at them.
As one of the eyeballs hurdles directly toward them, Triton shoots a laser beam and Shantae locks her hip at him. Causing a lightning bolt to shoot from her and merge with Triton's laser. The sudden impact caused not only the eyeball coming at them to explode, but caused a chain reaction, hitting the other eyeballs as well.
The Angler Fish Siren was frustrated that she teleported back to the fight. She summoned a batch of eyeballs, splitting the two hybrids apart. Triton was closer, while Shantae was further. "I'll go on ahead," he said. "Catch up when you can." Shantae nodded and waited for her chance.
Triton climbed up at the ledge where the siren was. "It's about time we meet face to face," she said. "I was wondering when I would see you again."
Triton was in no mood to listen. He swings a punch, but the siren dodges it. The more he swung, the more he missed. "Did you really think you'd fit in with those topsiders?" The siren lunges at the hybrid and grips tightly on his arms. "The moment they realize who you are, they'll cast you aside like the vermin we are."
Triton stood in shock, and the siren grinned. "That's right. We know what you are, and what you're capable of. That's why the Empress wants to see you again."
"I don't know what you're talking about," said Triton. "You can't make me turn on my friends."
"How can they be your friends if all they'll do is lock you away?" asked the siren. She dangles her eye in front of his face and it starts to glow. "Look deep into my eye and you'll see the truth." Triton tried to resist, but his tiredness got the better of him and gazed into the orb of light.
Inside the orb, he saw Shantae talking with the Mayor of Arena Town. She was handing him the codebook Armor Baron gave to her earlier. "Finally some good news," said the mayor. "The sunken city is a complex structure and much of it is sealed off. My hope is that with a better understanding of how the city was built, I can block the advance of those creatures."
Shantae was shocked, "You knew about those creatures lurking beneath the island and you still built Arena Town here?"
The mayor was worried about telling his tourist about his situation. "You see," he started. "The town was already here. I purchased it in hopes of creating the ultimate vacation destination. I even renamed the island. I mean who would want to vacation at a place called Siren Island? I heard rumors that sirens lived here, but I didn't believe them."
"Mayor," said Shantae. "I know you wanted me to stay out of trouble. But I went down there into the sunken city and made a friend. He and I rescued Plink, Vera, and Zapple too."
"How is that possible?" asked the Mayor.
"The friend I made down there is also a hybrid. Plus, the half genies shared their fusion stones to share their magic with me."
"I owe you an apology," said the mayor. "I underestimate your abilities just because you were the youngest. Please do whatever it takes to find those girls and stop those sirens! As for your hybrid friend, find out more about him. I will do what I should've done long ago; prepare the island for evacuation!" And with that, the mayor leaves and the vision comes to a close.
"That mayor told the island about your sightings on this island," said the siren. "He was going to have the whole island turn against you."
Triton could not believe his eyes and looked down at his hands. He started to shake out of fear, anger, and misunderstanding. He drops to his knees, unable to cope with what he just saw. This left him vulnerable to the siren who grinned down on him.
She takes the opportunity to knock him unconscious, but Shantae beats her to it. Knocking Triton out of the way, Shantae whips her ponytail at the siren until she teleports to the ledge again. "Bath Time!" she shouted. She used her magic to enclose the cave around them and fill up the room with water.
Shantae used her sea frog formation until the water drained. Then she turned to Triton to make sure she was okay. Triton was left in a traumatized trance, vulnerable to any attack. So Shantae had to defend him herself. With a few whips, kicks, punches, and magic abilities, Shantae was able to weaken the eldest siren.
And with a final kick slammed to the ground, the siren cackled in defeat. "It doesn't matter what happens to me," she said. "The plan is already in motion." And with that, the siren exploded and a small orb of light passed on into Triton's chest.
"Triton!" Shantae cried. "Are you okay?"
Triton looked up at the half genie with a hurt look on his face, then took a deep breath and got up with a serious frown. "Let's just get out of here."
As he approached the exit, Shantae tried to stop him by placing her hand on his forearm. "Are you sure you're-"
Triton just yanked his hand away from Shantae. "I'm fine," he said firmly. "Let's just go." Shantae was worried. She had never seen him this grumpy since they first met.
Back in the Empress's lair, the last siren approached the Empress with a calm look on her face. "She has completed her task," she said. "Everything is going according to plan."
The Empress chuckled with delight. "All according to plan," was all she said. "Soon, he will be mine!"
