In the sky near Canada, an airplane was flying toward its destination.
The pilot, Curtis Hoyle, was flying it while his friend from his time in Vietnam, Frank Castle, was behind him in the seat.
"Come on up and sit with me, Frank." Curtis said to his friend.
Frank, wearing sunglasses, got up to the cockpit and sat down next to him. After the General had called him to meet him and Canada, Curtis had taken him onto the plane.
"How come they got your name on the war memorial wall in DC, Hoyle?" Frank asked his friend.
"Typical foul-up." Hoyle said."I kind of fell out of the picture for a while. By the time I found out about it..."
Frank nodded."Uh-hunh."
"But the question for you, Frank, is why you're all of a sudden a bug up my pants after all these years?"
"Believe it or not, I'm coming 'round to your way of thinking. I have to make a living." Frank said."Maybe you saw my ad in Soldier of Fortune?"
"Sorry, missed it." Hoyle said."This wouldn't have anything to do with Ayres, would it?"
"What do you know about Ayres?" Frank asked. Bruce Ayres, who had come home from the war to start a plane company, had been killed.
"I made him an offer, sure, but I didn't skrag him. He did himself. It happens. I just have to marvel at the coincidence. Two guys from my old 'Nam outfit in one week."
Frank nodded again."Yeah. I know what you mean."
"You don't still hold a grudge, Frank, do you?"
Frank shook his head."No. I told you, if I had to do it over again, I'd have sold that morphine on the black market."
Frank then saw something out the window. It was a jet with a Canadian flag on it.
"Isn't that a Canadian airforce jet?" Frank asked Hoyle.
"Not to worry. We got a deal with the Canadians." Hoyle assured him. He then pointed at the airfield and the white mansion that Frank assumed was owned by the General."There it is." He said.
"Quite a spread." Castle said.
Frank saw a helicopter with weapons and some men. The deal with the Canadians must have been a big one to have all this here.
"What have you got there, Hoyle? An air force apache?" Frank asked him.
"Yes, the one they say was shot down. It wasn't. The general bought it."
"He bought it?"
"What did I say?"
Hoyle landed the plane on the airstrip. The two got off the plane.
"We have time for a tour." Said Hoyle."The lab's in that stucco building, barracks in the green tent." Hoyle pointed as a guard drove a jeep to pick them up.
"How many men do you have here?" Frank asked.
"About 75."
As Hoyle got into the jeep, Frank looked at one soldier who was holding a Kalashnikov rifle."Where'd you get the kalashnikovs?"
"The General has friends all over. Come on. I'll take you to the mansion." Hoyle said.
Hoyle drove him to the white mansion."Kind of permanent looking, isn't it?" Frank said to him.
"I told you, the General has friends all over."
Hoyle stopped near the mansion and the two got out of the jeep. One of the guards searched Frank for weapons.
"I thought we already did this." Castle said.
"Can't be too careful." Hoyle said.
They walked into the mansion and Hoyle looked at one of the guards."Is the general up?" He asked him.
"Yeah. He's waiting for you." The guard told him.
Frank and Hoyle went upstairs to the mansion and Frank had to take off his sunglasses to make sure what he was seeing.
"I don't believe it." Frank said, genuinely surprised at who he saw.
"Welcome, Hoyle. Welcome, Castle, to my humble home." An old Vietnamese smiled at him from behind his desk. Frank recognized him as Buktir Van Tranh.
"General Buktir Van Tranh of the late, unlamented South Vietnamese army." Frank said.
"You have an excellent memory, Mr. Castle." Tranh said, impressed.
"How could I forget the only SVN general to fly combat missions?" Frank said, putting the sunglasses in his coat."I thought you were assassinated in '73?"
"A subterfuge. I needed to disappear for a while." He explained."But you know more about me than I know about you. You're a mystery man, Mr. Castle. Even your marines have no record of your having served. Why is that?" He asked Castle.
"Like you, I have been careful to cover my tracks." Frank told him.
"And you think by killing my distributor, you can take his place?"
Castle nodded."That's right. You're a military man. Who would you rather have?"
"I'm afraid I don't believe you, Mr. Castle. I'm afraid we must consider the possibility that you are a CIA plant." Tranh said.
"So?" Castle said."Kill me and you still have no distributor. And I could be just what you need." Frank said.
Tranh thought about this."Yessss...there is that possibility. So I have arranged a little test. Follow me to the veranda, please."
Tranh led both Castle and Hoyle out to the veranda. Castle saw a guard next to a man sitting on a chair with his hands tied to the back of the chair. The man was looking down on the ground.
"This is Liam Oliver, an agent of the CDSS." Tranh pointed at the man on the chair."Please look at us, Mr. Oliver."
He didn't look at them.
"James! Hold him up!" Tranh ordered.
The guard named James pulled Oliver's head up and Castle saw that the man had a black eye on the right side of his face. It was obvious that they had been beating him for information.
Tranh looked at Frank."So, you wish to join us? Please take James's pistol and kill Oliver."
The table had the guard's pistol and his kalashnikov rifle.
The guard, still behind the chair, holding Oliver's head, handed Castle the pistol.
When Castle grabbed the pistol, he noticed that it felt light, meaning that there was only one bullet in the gun.
He noticed this when he raised the pistol and pointed it at Oliver's head.
"Be careful not to hit James, please." Said Tranh.
Castle suddenly aimed the pistol at the guard behind Oliver and shot him right through the head.
He quickly aimed his gun at Tranh...only to see that he was right and that there was only one bullet in there.
Castle grabbed a knife from the dead guard and cut the ties to Oliver.
"Can you move?" He asked him as he grabbed the Kalashnikov rifle from the table.
The man, while not knowing why he was helping him, nodded."Yes." He said, getting up from the chair.
Frank aimed the rifle at Hoyle while Tranh quickly ran away into the mansion. Hoyle pulled out his pistol and aimed it at Castle.
Frank pulled the trigger but the rifle jammed.
"So long, Castle." Hoyle said, firing his pistol.
Frank quickly ducked, the bullet missing him, and somersaulted. He then kicked the gun out of Hoyle's hand.
Hoyle ran into the mansion and looked at the guards."On the veranda! Kill them!" He ordered.
The Kalashnikov then unjammed and Frank shot two soldiers that came out of the door. Their bodies fell down.
Frank and Oliver quickly then ran away.
"This way. I hear a jeep." Castle said to Oliver.
They saw a green jeep drive over to them. Just as the guard stood up from his seat with his pistol in hand, Castle quickly shot him and his body fell out of the jeep.
The two got into the jeep, Castle getting into the driver's seat, and they drove off into the forest.
"Get them!" Yelled a voice. Castle turned his head to see that there were at least three jeeps full of guards following them.
The jeep was going fast with plenty of gasoline for it. Castle swerved the jeep around to make sure it didn't hit any of the trees in front of them.
Suddenly, Castle heard shooting from the guards in the jeeps behind them. He saw Oliver grab a carbine at the back of the jeep and he fired back, managing to hit the driver of one jeep.
The driver's body turned the wheel and the Jeep crashed into one of the trees.
Castle's eyes widened at what he saw ahead of him.
"Get ready to jump!" He yelled.
Oliver looked at what he was looking at and his eyes widened as well.
Ahead of them, there was a big ravine.
Castle kept driving while the other jeeps slowed down. He then drove the jeep over the edge and both Castle and Oliver then jumped out of their seats at the last second, still having their rifles with them. The jeep fell into the ravine and into the mud.
Oliver was lucky enough to jump to the other side of the ravine.
Castle, unfortunately, only managed to grab onto the edge of the cliff, nearly falling into the ravine.
Oliver saw this and helped him up."I got ya'!" He said as he pulled him up. On the other side of the ravine, the guards got out of their jeeps and ran to the edge to try in shoot them.
Once he was up, Castle and Oliver then quickly ran away just as the guards started shooting. They ran into the forest, dodging the bullets.
They ran for at least maybe 5 minutes and out of sight before they stopped to rest.
Frank sat down on a wooden log as Oliver took a sip of a canteen he had brought with him.
"How long did they have you?" Castle asked him.
"Five days. I was certain I was dead." Oliver said."Who are you? CIA? DEA?"
"I am the Punisher. I work for myself." He told Oliver."I am going to destroy General Tranh and this entire compound."
Oliver thought about this."These people are in my country. I'll help you."
Frank nodded, grateful.
The two then started going deeper into the forest to make sure they were well away from Tranh's men so that they could plan an attack on them.
A few hours later, just when they planned to stop, they heard something.
"Hey!" Said a young, male voice."Who are you guys?"
Alerted, they quickly looked around to see where the voice came from.
"That sounded like a kid." Oliver noted.
"Hey!" Runt yelled, seeing the three wolf's down there. He was up on a tree, looking down at them."Who are you guys?"
The three wolves looked up at him and quickly ran away.
"Well, that was real." Runt said, confused at why they had run away.
Runt then noticed something in the distance.
"Humans?" He said, surprised to see two humans in the distance. One wore a white shirt and the other wore a blue jacket. They must have heard him yell to wolves since they seemed to be looking around.
Runt figured that they must have been hunters.
Suddenly, Castle heard growling.
"You hear that?" Oliver asked. Castle nodded.
The growling got closer. The two turned to see that there was grizzly bear behind them.
"Shit..." Oliver swore.
"Run!" Castle yelled, aiming his gun at the bear, hoping to cover Oliver as he would run.
Oliver ran and Castle fired his gun...only for the weapon to jam again.
The bear ran towards him, about to maul him into pieces, when all of a sudden, two wolf pups, one with grey fur and the other with gold fur, came up to the bear.
"Get off our land!" Said the little grey pup, glaring at the bear.
Castle's eyes widened in absolute shock. Did that pup just talk?
The bear still growled when two adult wolves suddenly jumped on it's back. The two adult wolves and the two pups then chased the bear away.
"Punisher," Oliver ran back to him when he saw that was okay. He then looked at the wolves, that walked over to them.
"Uh...hi." The grey pup said to them nervously.
Oliver stared at the wolf in shock.
