It was a normal day for Midoriya Izuku. Wake up, morning toilette, breakfast, school. The fact that the last one sucked was also an ordinary thing. As the only quirkless person in the class, he was bound to be ridiculed.
In his world not all men are created equal. When almost everyone are born with some kind of extraordinary ability it is normal, and when somebody does not possess one, they are not normal. They are lesser people. And with each generation the number of those without a 'quirk' decreases, and just as those with abilities were ridiculed when they were just begging to appear, now it is the opposite.
But despite the setback, with which he was born with, Midoriya Izuku did not lose hope of becoming a hero, even if everyone was against that.
The middle school just only begun, and instead of new environment nothing changed. Same people who were in primary school, same nicknames, same everything.
'Should have asked mom not to place me in Aldera. Not that it would have made a difference... most likely, at least Kacchan wouldn't bully me.' Thought Izuku on his way home.
Bakugou Katsuki was once his friend. Almost a decade ago. While Izuku was diagnosed as quirkless, Katsuki got an awesome power to create explosions from his palms. From that moment on a rift was created between former friends. One became a prime hero material praised by everyone around him, while the other became useless 'Deku'. And since then Bakugou made one of his life goals to grind Midoriya's self-esteem into dust. Combined with complete lack of people who believed in him, including his own mother, Izuku only had hope in his corner, by now very dim, but that was all he had.
'What was that?' He suddenly heard a rustling noise from a nearby trash container. 'Maybe an animal?'
Driven by curiosity Izuku approached it, maybe to feel better because at least an animal won't ridicule him, and was about to open the lid when suddenly...
"EMERGIS EXMORTIS!" Something almost flew right into his face, making Izuku scream and fall on his ass "Hehehehe, always wanted to do that to someone! Ey, buddy, you ok?"
When Midoriya pulled himself together enough to focus on what's happening in front of him, he tried to understand what hat was in front of him. A big floating leather-bound book with a terrifying visage was hanging in the air in front of him. Glowing red eyes and a big bomb stuck in its maw. Even in with people with severe mutations that made people's heads look like hammers or other tools and comic book-like heroes running around a floating talking book was very surprising.
"H-hello?" Izuku tried to say something more substantial but barely managed to say this.
"Yes, yes, yes, hello, hello, hello, take your time to recover, we're not in a rush, I'm just a magic book, not something you see everyday, eh?" The book was floating back and forward, up and down, not staying in one spot even for a moment, making even more difficult for Izuku to concentrate. "Deep breaths, buddy, deep breaths, okay?"
"Okay?" Replied Izuku.
"Okay!" Repeated the book. "Now back to square one, buddy! You okay with that?"
"Okay?" Retorted Midoriya.
"Okay!" Reiterated the monster. "BOO!" And now the poor boy was lying on the ground as the book almost smashed into his face again. "Hehehehe, I always wanted to do that as well, buddy! I like you, you're funny, what's your name?"
"M-m-midoryia Izuku, sir." Mumbled the victim of the diabolical book.
"Hey, M-m-midoriya Izuku sir, nice to meet you! I am Bombinomicon, the magic book of bombs! Cool, right? Anyway, do you want to see something cool? Wanna see some magic?" Said the flying book.
"M-magic?" Said Midoriya, barely understanding what is going on.
"Yes, magic! Come on, you a magical flying book in front of you! How often do you see magical flying books around here?" Continued Bombinomicon. "Relax, buddy, I'm not going to bite, can't you see the big bomb stuck in my mouth? I'm just a harmless spell book! Just open me and see for yourself!"
Now it was floating with it's fore edge in front of the boy. The thought of seeing some magic, apart from the fact that the book was flying and speaking to him was very inviting, yet the look of it was setting him on edge.
'This thing looks far from harmless. It's more like a cursed book. But, what if this is my chance? What if this is not some prank and magic is real, and I can learn it? I will be able to become a hero with it!'
With his curiosity overweighting his cautiousness Izuku took the book in his hands and tried to open it. But when he actually tried, with all his meager strength to do it, he failed. The book remained closed.
"Hehehehehehe, sorry but you can't open me! I was sealed by a wizard, before being thrown here! Good attempt though, you were this close! Imagine I actually have arms to show how exactly close your were!"
If before this Midoriya felt not so good, now he felt terrible. The promise of magic was just another joke.
"Hey hey hey, buddy, don't look so down! As I said, I am sealed, I can fly around for some time and change my size a little bit, but other than that I'm busted! So I need your help to get home so to speak!" The book continued sir long around the sad boy, who now refused to look at it. "Come on buddy, be my hero here. I promise you that now I'm serious! Do you how serious magical promises are? That a serious business right here!"
While he still felt really bad, Izuku was not the one to hold grudges against some buddy. If he could tolerate bullying for years, he could tolerate a couple of jokes, even if they were a little cruel. He raised his head and looked at the cursed book. "How can I help?"
"Ey, buddy, I knew you were a good guy! Just what I need! I will even ask Merasmus to send you some spellbook magazines, he has piles of them lying around!" Now Bombinomicon was again flying around Midoriya, making him constantly spin his head around. "Now, I need you to go the post office and me send me to... Let's just go there and see what is cheaper, Scotland or the US! Wait, scratch that, bring me to the local Mann Co. or TF Industries branch, they should have one here Japan, I know Mercenaries were fighting here, so there should be Mann Co. or BLU or RED property in Japan! Wait, scratch that too, I've got an even better idea! Bring me to the US embassy! Oh, that old fart won't see it coming for sure!"
"Sure, I can." Midoriya said, while trying find the address on his phone. "What's Mann Co. by the way? And other things that you mentioned?"
"Mann Co. is an arms manufacturing division of TF Industries, which is a security company. Not something a school kid would be interested in, so don't bother! What are you looking at there?" The book flew behind Izuku so its 'eyes' on the front cover could see his smartphone.
"I'm trying to find the address of the US embassy on the Internet. Do you know what it is?" Izuku showed the tab with a map to the book, where their destination was pinned.
"Is it one of those fancy 'technology' that mortals like you created?" Asked the book, flying close to the screen.
"Yeah, it was around for centuries, so I'm surprised you don't know about it." Answered the boy, not bothering to explain to the rude book what the global web is in details. "I can find everything there, like where we should go, so follow me."
Just as he turned around and walked around the book to exit the alleyway, Bombinomicon flew right in front of him. "Wowowowowowow, stop right there buddy! Centuries? Well that changes some things! Can you use your fancy Internet to search info about Mann Co.?"
"Why?" Asked once again confused Midoriya, while tapping required name in the search engine.
"Well, if the thing that allows you to 'find everything' existed for centuries, then that shitty wizard not just banished me to Japan, but in time as well! Maybe even into different universe! When he's angry he can be actually competent!" Answered the book once again going in circles around the green head.
"B-b-but what should we do if you got stuck in another world or another time?" Stammered Izuku felling overwhelmed by new information.
"Easy, buddy! If l'm just in the future, then the old wizard is still here, he's old! Very old! Fossil-old! And would still be alive and kicking, so we find his current address with your 'internet' and go with the post office plan. If this is another universe, then we have to make a proper wizard out of you so you can unseal me and send back by yourself! Cool plan? Cool plan! We're cool! Now, what about that info." And it returned to its place behind Midoriya to see the screen.
"I can't find anything about Mann Co. or TF Industries. Maybe information about them was lost, like many things about pre-quirk era. A-a-a what do you mean 'make a proper wizard' out of me?" Said Izuku, now feeling uneasy very, now that there was a possibility that the scary book may actually do something to him.
"Relax buddy, I don't have a single idea about this 'pre-quirk era', but I can say for sure that the lady that runs the company would not allow it to be just 'forgotten'! I mean, I am a magical book with a devil spirit inside of it I am pretty big deal if I do say so myself, but she! That lady would give a Satan run for his money! Would not be surprised if he was her fan!" Said the book resuming its routine.
Now Midoriya was not even sure what he would be more afraid of. The book that said about having a devil inside of it, wanting to be unsealed, or, most likely a villain, so scary and powerful that it made an evil book scared.
"As for the wizard part, there was one book of dark rituals I had fling with, good stuff by the way, she told me about one ritual that should work with you! But I need some time to remember what exactly you should do, so I'm gonna stick with you for some time! You cool with that?" The next moment the book shrunk from massive to very small size and attached itself to Izuku's chest like badge.
"B-b-but... Wha..." The sheer amount of questions in his head made it difficult for the boy to even voice one of them, making him only blubber and mutter.
"What are we waiting for buddy, let's go to your home, or wherever you wanted to go, I'll be here for the ride!" Told the small book.
Without any better idea, Midoriya walked out of the alleyway and started going home. "B-but why would you go with me?"
"Easy, buddy, you look like a good guy, if a little gullible and spineless! Imagine if spooked some bad guy, or smarty pants scientist guy or a government agent guy! There's a whole list of guys I wouldn't want to stick with, especially in this state! But you're a good one, you'll help me, not try to dissect little old me! And I don't want to remain lying in the trash, I am a grimoire with a big sense of pride, I deserve better, buddy! Also I hate raccoons, imagine if another trash panda found me and started harassing me! Bad stuff, bad stuff, buddy!"
AN: To quote The Lich from Adventure Time with Finn and Jake - 'Fall'. A perfect time of the year for me to start another story and (most likely) promptly drop it. Here's hoping that I finally decide to go further than one measely chapter.
Have a nice day.
