THIS IS THE FIRST CHAPTER OF THIS FANFICTION, AND WHILE I HAVE GOTTEN THIS AS A SUGGESTION, FEEL FREE TO SUGGEST BETTER TITLES!

The Orre Region.

One of the most inhospitable regions on the Pokémon Planet.

A vast almost uninhabitable desert. With very few spots for water. There is a forest to the north, but it is almost impossible to reach it on foot.

It is so horrid that there are NO wild Pokémon. Conditions are too harsh. Not even the hardest or most putrid try to live out in the wild here.

That does not mean that there isn't life.

Making do with what little there is, the people who call Orre home are often more resilient than those from other regions. And even then, their way of life revolves around Pokémon.

The Colosseum Cities are the best revenue for money, but even then, most make do with scavenged parts and materials to make their lives. Rarely do people from other regions travel to Orre, as even then it's more a public vacation spot if that is even an accurate term.

However, on November 21, 2003, an adventure occurred in Orre.

One that set the wheels in motion for a turning point to where Orre was no longer viewed as a dead zone.

This is the story of a child who had been stranded in Orre ever since he was 5. Where he met the girl who would stick by his side long after they left Orre. Alongside their Pokémon they met before and after the adventure.

This …

Is the story of Ash and Serena.

It was afternoon in a desert area of the Orre region. A Skarmory was flying around, keeping an eye out for ones who might be looking for the hideout.

What Hideout?

A team that had made a name for itself for taking Pokémon from Trainers.

They once had a noble goal when it was founded, but now?

Now they were viewed as no better than Team Rocket, Galactic, or Plasma.

Skarmory had been with his trainer since the beginning of the team, and frankly both he and his friend were getting disgusted with what had been happening recently.

Skarmory would have continued with his anger filled thinking when he saw a motorbike approaching. Normally, if this was a civilian, he would just chase them off, but this was one he recognized.

And unfortunately, remembered this poor soul had just been put on a hit list.

He would do it, but he remembered his orders from his trainer and let the bike pass.

If the dark age of Team Snagem was going to end with this child, might as well kick it off with a bang.

"WHAT!? ELIMINATE ASH!?" A grunt yelled right at his boss, who had an angry scowl on his face.

"That's what the guy told me, Wakin."

"BUT ASH WAS WITH US 3 MONTHS AFTER WE FOUNDED THIS TEAM, GONZAP! HE IS PRACTICALLY FAMILY! DO THEY SERIOUSLY EXPECT US TO JUST OFF HIM BECAUSE – "Wakin got cut off as Gonzap slammed his fist into his desk, leaving an imprint.

"DO YOU THINK I AM HAPPY WITH HOW THINGS HAVE BEEN GOING, WAKIN!? MORE AND MORE WE GET DRAGGED INTO THE ROLE OF A VILLAIN WHEN WE SHOULD BE USING OUR TECH TO PROTECT POKEMON!" He practically bellowed right into his face, causing Wakin to back up in fear. He then began taking deep breaths, just so he doesn't accidentally rip apart his 3rd in command.

He wasn't the one he had to get angry with right now.

"If I could, I would storm over there, rip apart that blasted machine causing this whole fiasco and then head to a region where the PLA is located and tell them what's going on! But right now, they are watching us like a hawk, and we can't afford to lose any more of the recruits who share our original vision or the members from back then! I hope Ash doesn't do anything that makes us …" He was cut off when an explosion rocked the room.

"GONZAP!" A recruit grunt, one whom Gonzap liked, ran into the room.

"What happened!?" He was worried. Did those bastards intend to backstab them now?

"IT'S ASH! HE BLEW A HOLE WHERE THE PROTOTYPE MOBILE SNAG MACHINES ARE! BOTH SNATCHREM AND SNITCHER WERE CAUGHT IN THE BLAST AND INJURED!" Gonzap's eyes widened. Ash blew a hole. Why?

"Get everyone on red alert! I don't know what he's planning right now!" He then pulled the grunt close.

"But I hope personally he's going to keep things safe, if you get what I'm saying." The grunt nodded, having never really liked who was giving them orders to steal people's Pokémon.

In the room of the snag machines …

A massive hole in the wall had been carved into it, as a figure walked through the smoke towards what looked like a blue and pink machine.

He was done with this. Snagem was no longer the team that he had worked with for years.

He saw the blue one, grabbed it and put it on his shoulder going down to his hand. He was about to grab the pink one, when he saw a grunt charge into the room.

"HEY! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING, ASHY-BOY!?" His lips turned into a snarl, hating this grunt, since he always reveled in stealing Trainer's Pokémon, laughing at them for "wasting precious weapons."

That and that stupid nickname these grunts always looked down on him and vying for his 2nd in command spot.

Well, it is open now, but good luck getting Gonzap to give it to you.

The grunt moved to attack, but soon found his right foot stuck to the ground. When he looked down, he saw a white bubble-like substance. And that was before a blue froglike Pokémon suddenly punched him in the face, knocking him out.

"Good work, Froakie! Let's get out of here!"

"Froakie!" With that, Froakie leaped onto his shoulder, making sure not to weigh him down too much, as he and his partner leapt out of the hole and onto the ground.

Gonzap and most of the grunts were running towards the entrance to the hideout. When they got out, they saw a 10-year-old boy in a blue and black jacket, black shirt, black jeans with a Pokéball symbol, and a black league hat running towards a bike. They were about to give chase, when Electricity suddenly began surrounding them, knocking out the ones Gonzap personally hated. They then saw a yellow mouse Pokémon with a Lightning bolt for a tail running with the boy.

Finally, the electricity died down, and they began to give chase once more. However, the boy had gotten onto the bike while the two Pokémon leapt into the side cart. Revving the engine, they took off down the canyon walls, with Gonzap and his men stopping to catch their breath.

That wasn't the final surprise though. The boy pulled out a device and pressed the button on it.

Behind them, the hideout suddenly blew up, making a massive plume of smoke appear, big enough that anyone could see it from miles away.

Ash may not have seen Gonzap's face, but he beat he was pissed right now.

Ah well.

It was the least that could happen to put a Grookey Wrench into the works.

He just hoped Gonzap would forgive him.

It was 15 minutes later, and Ash had gotten away from the hideout. He and his two partners had been riding.

Where to? Who knows.

Hopefully somewhere he could get on a boat and get to a different region where he could tell one of the PLA members.

He then saw what looked like an out of commission locomotive with a ramp to the door.

What really caught his eye was a truck that was parked out front.

One that had a sack that was thrashing around.

He drew close about ready to untie the knot that he saw on it, since he had a feeling that it was either a trapped Pokémon or someone.

He then saw two guys leaving and hid under the ramp.

But not before placing a tracking device on the bottom of the truck.

"Boy! That was good!" one of the guys who wore blue goggles and a blue shirt said.

"Nothing like pigging out after a hard day's work!" the one in the orange shirt and red goggles added, as they got into the vehicle and drove away.

Ash looked at his two partners and they both nodded. As soon as they finish eating, they track them down.

With that, they entered the establishment.

While it was a locomotive on the outside, it was a restaurant on the inside. Ash saw the bar area and took a seat, then looked at the menu.

Shortly after, a man in an apron came by.

"I see you're a traveler in need of food. What'll ya have?"

"Chicken tenders with a side of fries, and extra ketchup packets for this chubby Chu here." He answered, thumbing over to Pikachu when he mentioned the Ketchup Packets, which caused Pikachu to glare at him.

"Trust me I always stock up on those given how the Chu line absolutely gorges on this stuff. Chicken tenders, fries and ketchup Packets coming right up." With that, the man retreated to the back to make the food. Ash and his friends got comfortable when they saw the TV.

"BREAKING NEWS! 10 minutes ago, an explosion occurred in the desert canyon of Orre. When the Police investigated, they discovered the hideout of Team Snagem. Once a team founded to protect and save abused Pokémon, recent events have made them appear just like Team Rocket. However, when officials arrived at the sight, only 5 members were found, all tied up, saying they had been left behind after someone named 'ASHEY-BOY' betrayed them and the boss tied them up for failing." Ash smiled and shook his head. Way to not give out the name of the one you want your revenge on. He then saw the man bring out a bottle of ketchup, 5 Packets of Ketchup and the food he ordered.

He sectioned off half of the fries to Froakie who began chowing down on them, while the 5 Packets went to Pikachu, who gulped them down almost instantly. After that, he made a small dipping section of ketchup and ate the chicken fingers and fries.

After finishing up their food (and keeping Pikachu from drinking out of the ketchup bottle) Ash prepared to leave, when he saw someone looking at him. The guy wore a brown vest like jacket and red pants. He also had pink hair. Normally, Ash would be worried that this guy was going to report him.

If he didn't recognize this glare as one that Trainers use when they see an opposing trainer. Ash motioned with his head to follow him outside.

"Name?" the trainer asked, deciding to get right to the point.

"Ash. Don't feel like giving out my surname right now, and you are?" The trainer then smirked.

Cocky. He was hoping to not injure whatever Pokémon he was about to fight with.

"Name's Wally. Hope you remember it. I'm just looking for a good fight is all." Ash looked at his partners and they nodded running out onto the empty area, ready to fight.

"Double or Single?"

"Double. GO ZIGZAGOON!" With that, Wally threw two Pokéballs, with one revealing a white and brown racoon like Pokémon, while the other revealed a black and white version that had red eyes and a slobbering tongue, with a manic expression like it was crazy. Almost as if it was a fan of heavy metal music, especially since the black mask area looked more like rock star glasses than a thief mask.

"Huh. Galar ZigZagoon. Don't usually see these around here. How'd ya get it?"

"Gift from my cousin who is the Galar Gym Leader of Spikemouth." Ash nodded and then decided to give his orders.

"Pikachu! Thunderbolt the regular ZigZagoon! Froakie! Double Team then use Water Pulse!"

With that, Froakie seemed to infinitely make doubles of himself as he ran towards the Galar ZigZagoon.

"Galagoon! Use Scary Face! Zigster! Tackle that Pikachu!" Galagoon's face then took on what could be described as a slasher smile as his face then contorted as it looked in Froakie's general direction. Froakie very nearly stopped doing Double Team, but when the last one disappeared, Froakie was nowhere to be seen!

Suddenly, Galagoon got hit in the back of the head with a Water Pulse, which caused some water to splash in front of Zigster, tripping him up when Pikachu let the Thunderbolt rip.

It connected and Ash smiled as he saw the effects of Paralysis happen.

"Now use Quick Attack! Both of you!" Both Pikachu and Froakie ran towards their respective opponents, ready to hit them.

"Zigster! Use Quick Attack on Froakie!" Suddenly, Zigster disappeared as Pikachu suddenly looked around, trying to figure out where he went, when Froakie suddenly got hit in the stomach and sent flying back.

"Zigster's ability is Quick Feet. When a status ailment happens, his speed increases!" Ash scowled at that.

He had to figure out a way to trip up Zigster if he had any hope to get at Galagoon.

Wait.

Trip up?

He then smirked.

"FROAKIE! USE YOUR FRUBBLES AND COVER THE BATTLEFIELD!" Froakie then grabbed the Frubbles on his neck and multiplied it, till he had a massive ball of Frubbles and threw it at the ground.

Zigster didn't have time to stop his momentum and got his hind legs caught, being unable to move.

"Now use Smack Down! Pikachu! Volt Tackle Galagoon!" With that, Pikachu rammed into Galagoon when he went to help his compatriot, but not before Galagoon used Pin Missile to get some shots on Froakie, who swung his arm down onto Zigster's head, who was not getting back up after that pounding.

"Galagoon! Use Headbutt!"

"Pikachu! Iron Tail!"

Both attacks collided, but Zigster soon began to lose headway. He couldn't overpower Pikachu's Iron Tail, especially since it really hurt when his head collided with it. Finally, Zigster was sent sprawling back, and when he came to a rest his eyes were swirly.

Wally sighed, then smiled.

"Had a feeling that would happen. Still, best way to practice." Ash nodded as his friends came back to him.

"You've got a good idea of a team, but I do suggest getting Galagoon to Obstagoon. As well as get other types to counter Froakie or Pikachu. Or teach them other moves." Wally nodded then wrote a note.

"There's a city east of here called Phenac Coty. Maybe it can help you do whatever it is you were trying to do." Ash nodded and took the note.

As soon as Wally left, Ash typed something I to the computer on his bike.

"Good. Got a signal from that tracker." As soon as he finished that, it then turned into an arrow pointing to the east.

"So, they went the same direction as this Phenac City. Here's hoping they didn't go too far from Phenac." With his friends in the side car, he revved and the gunned the engine, taking off towards the tracker.

10 minutes passed, and he soon saw a city. From the outside, there were white walls, that only had a few openings to allow people to pass through. In the distance, he saw a fountain that seemed to be delivering clean drinking water. He quickly checked the tracker, but soon saw the same truck that he had seen outside the restaurant at one of the entrances. Pulling the bike to the side and making himself invisible to everyone, he quickly began to look for those two guys.

He soon saw them 5 feet away from the truck, where the bag was thrashing about.

"Keep a hold of it, dingus!" the one in the cap yelled.

"She's a real Kicker for a beauty!" The one with flame hair yelled. Ash got closer, getting ready to help.

"Ghm bhm beh! HELP! HELP! KIDNAPPERS! SOMEONE HELP!" A soprano voice yelled out from the bag. Ash's eyes widened. They had put a girl in that bag!? He then saw the one in the cap glare angrily at his partner.

"I told you that tape wouldn't hold!" He yelled as the fire hair one just glared back.

"Yeah, well I didn't have any cloth or balls on rope on hand so!" He cut himself off …

As he then saw Ash.

"Crap! I think that kid heard her, Trudy!" His partner turned around and saw what he was talking about.

"Yeah! Surefire bet he's gonna report us, Folly!" With that, they both dropped the sack.

"OUCH!" The voice cried out as she violently landed on the ground. Folly then walked over to Ash, clearly trying to intimidate him.

Doofus couldn't intimidate a choir boy with the way he came off.

"Well kid, looks like you have nothing to blame but your bad luck. I will give you a chance to leave while forgetting everything. Deal?" Froakie and Pikachu then walked out from behind him, doing a much better job at intimidation than Folly did.

"Yeah, or you could let whoever's in the sack out and I don't beat you silly along with your friend in front of witnesses. Deal?" Folly then glared at Ash, making his intentions clear.

"Guess we'll have to do it the old-fashioned way. Beating you to a pulp!" Trudy, however, saw Ash smile at that. Realizing what he was planning, he tried to stop Folly from bringing out a Pokémon.

"Folly, don't!" Too late. Folly had thrown out two Pokéballs, and 2 Whismur appeared. Pikachu and Froakie then ran up front, intent on keeping Folly's attention on them.

"Use Uproar!" With that, both Whismur then began making shouts. They weren't loud, and Froakie had handed Pikachu some Frubbles to put in his ears. As such, they just stood there, not being affected at all.

"Uproar again!" Folly angrily demanded, thinking Ash was not taking this seriously. Trudy, however, realized Ash's intent and tried to warn Folly.

"That's what he wants you to do, you moron! Stop – "

"Uproar again!" Trudy just facepalmed, as now Pikachu and Froakie were starting to hear it. They looked at Ash and he gave the signal.

"UPROAR!" Folly screamed, practically using Uproar himself. This time, the Whismur affected both of their opponents, where they partially got disoriented. Thankfully, this Uproar would be the last as they calmed down.

"Start the Uproar again!"

"When they open their mouths, put Frubbles into their mouths, Froakie!" Froakie grinned, then made two massive Frubble piles in his hands, then threw them.

The Whismur had begun inhaling again to start the Uproar cycle again, when they suddenly found their mouths covered. No sound, not even able to move their lips.

"Whismur!" Folly wailed, as Pikachu then clonked one on the head with Iron tail, while Froakie used Smack Down to clobber the other. They both rolled back to Folly, who just stood with his mouth agape. He then glared angrily at Ash, who just had a massive smirk on his face.

"YOU may have beaten them, but this Pokémon will – "Folly suddenly got grabbed by Trudy and spun around.

"Look around you moron!" Folly did so and realized they had drawn quite a crowd. Folly then began kicking himself in the head. That kid had been purposefully letting the Whismur create an Uproar to draw a crowd.

"Hey! What's going on here!?"

"Are those guys robbers!?" When Folly heard that, he swung around to the woman who cried that out.

"For the love of -, WE AREN'T ROBBERS! WE'RE KIDNAPPERS! KID NAP PERS! GET IT- "

*CRACK! *

Next thing Folly knew was pain.

As Trudy had kick him right in the Pokéballs.

"You absolute moron! That is not helping our situation here!" Seeing as how they had to escape for now, Trudy picked Folly up and slung him over his shoulder to get out of there. However, he then got a good look at Ash's face.

"Wait … could you be … Team Sangem's …?" He shook his head and then ran out of the exit at top speed. Ash ignored them for now as he headed over to the sack, which was back to thrashing. A little kid had gotten onto one side, clearly trying to untie the knot at the top.

"Dang it, it's too tightly knotted!" Ash then walked over to the other side.

"Maybe on that side, but not here. Make sure it gets undone on that side!" He told the kid as he grabbed a string that was loose and pulled it. The knot came undone as Ash then put his arms underneath the area where the mouth was, recognizing it as where the head was.

"OK! We're going to be lifting you up onto your feet! Let us know if you feel like you're about to fall over!" He felt the bag nod, as he and the boy slowly lifted her up.

When the bag was standing up straight, it slipped down, revealing who was in it.

It was a honey blonde haired girl with blue eyes who wore a pink zip up shirt covered by a long-sleeved jacket, a white skirt with a pink rim, and blue knee-high boots with heels. She also wore two red butterfly earrings.

Did Ash also mention she was absolutely beautiful?

The girl then began looking around, clearly confused as to where she was.

"Where am I? Where did those creeps take me?" The lady in the pink business outfit walked over to her.

"This is Phenac City. Seems they brought you all the way from wherever you were last." The girl looked very worried at that.

"But I don't know how to get back to Pyrite Town!" The lady then patted her shoulder.

"I suggest talking to the Phenac Gym Leader here. He might be able to help. Also, you might want to thank this boy who helped you out of the sack." With that, she motioned to Ash, who was a bit spaced out from looking at Serena, with his Pokémon looking at him confused. Pikachu then jumped up and smacked him in the face.

"Dah! Sorry! Pikachu likes to Smack me sometimes! Just didn't want to be rude." He said as he glared at Pikachu, who then looked at Froakie and made a CUCKOO motion with his right hand. The girl just giggled.

"You're not the first to do that. But I thank you for saving me from them." The girl's face changed to one of concern.

"Say, did those creeps use a strange Pokémon?" Ash looked at her in confusion.

"No, they looked like perfectly normal Whismur to me." The girl looked confused.

"It wasn't a Whismur. I guess they didn't use it." She replied worriedly.

"I suggest you talk to our mayor about that. He's next to the Prefect Gym." The kid told her. The girl then looked at Ash with hope.

"Could you please escort me to the Mayor and Gym please?" She asked him, giving him very teary anime eyes. Ash wasn't exactly comfortable with saying no.

Without one condition, that is.

"Can I have a name first?" The girl then laughed.

"Of course, you wouldn't do it without knowing me. I'm Serena. And you are?" Ash then had a smirk on his face.

"The one and only Ash Ketchum! And his partners Pikachu and Froakie!" he cried striking a pose, not noticing that Pikachu and Froakie were looking at him strangely.

It then dawned on him what he had just done when he noticed Serena staring at him.

'DAMMIT, ASH! Why would you do something so lame in front of a pretty girl!?' He berated himself as she continued to stare.

Then she laughed her head off.

"OH, I needed that after the kidnapping! Now could you please escort me to the mayor's home?" Ash quickly calmed down and regained his posture as she smiled at him.

Ash then nodded and started to walk away to the center of town. If there was any place for the mayor to be in, it was there.

After a few minutes, Ash and Serena saw a building in the center of the town, though there was an even bigger building behind it. They looked to the left and saw a building that looked more elaborate than the others.

When they arrived at the front door, the door opened, and a man emerged.

He had long white hair, a tight-fitting purple muscle shirt, a red entrail skirt like thing, and black boots.

What got Ash very defensive that he had Serena hide behind him were his eyes.

They were completely red, and they did not look friendly at all. He then looked right at them and took notice of Ash.

"Hm. A traveling Trainer?" Ash said nothing as he glared right back at this man, who then chuckled darkly.

"Great expression on your face. I look forward to meeting again in the future." Ash just glared as the man walked out of town through an archway.

Ash looked at Serena, then motioned his head towards the door of the house.

Once they entered the building, they looked to their right and saw a rather stout looking man with a brown coat. He also had a rather welcoming smile.

"Well, I wasn't expecting guests today. Welcome to Phenac city. I am Es Cade! Now what can I help you out with?" With that, Serena walked out from behind Ash.

"I'm Serena."

"Well, how may I help such a pretty young thing?"

"Well, two guys had stuffed me into a bag and took me here for some reason." Ash then noticed that for a split second, Es Cade had an angered look before he took on a worried look.

"Why? If it's something here, I won't stop until these criminals are brought to justice." With that, Serena looked very relieved.

"They used a strange Pokémon, and it seems I was the only one who could see it." Es Cade then put his hand on his chin.

"Hm. Guess you couldn't tell what Pokémon it was. But I promise we will go into an investigation to find this and stop it!" Serena then smiled.

"Thank you! Also do you think you could get me some transportation to get home?" Es Cade then took on a jolly old smile, which Ash noticed how forced it was.

"As soon as I can get someone to drive you to where you need to get to! Until then, would you like to check out our Colosseum? I noticed the boy behind you has two Pokémon with him. Maybe he could entertain you until then?" Ash just shrugged and grabbed Serena's hand and led her out.

The moment they left; Es Cade face changed to one of annoyance.

"Figures he saw through my act. Surefire bet he won't let her get IN the transport. But I can tip off Team Snagem and my men to get them. If only he hadn't butted in."

"Ash! What's gotten into you!?" Serena shouted as she was rather violently pulled into an alley by Ash.

"I'll take you to the place you want. I don't trust Es Cade. He might not be telling the entire truth." He explained as they then entered the front gate of the Colosseum.

"Welcome. Are you here to compete?" The reception lady asked, as Ash then walked up to the desk.

"I am." The lady then typed something on the screen and then had a saddened look.

"I'm afraid right now, the earliest I can get you in is in about 2 hours. I would recommend coming back later." Ash sighed but nodded. Serena looked disappointed but didn't say anything as they left.

"So, what now?" Serena asked, as Ash looked deep in thought.

"Maybe we go to the Pre Gym and see if I can't get a fight there." Serena nodded and they prepared to leave.

"Short time, not happy to see you, Ash." A voice suddenly said. Ash whirled around …

And saw Wakin with two other Snagem grunts looking directly at him. He growled, not wanting to see what used to be his surrogate family right now.

"Hello, Wakin. I see someone tipped you off I was here." Wakin then sighed.

"Do you think we're just here to chat, man? You now have a target on your back. And all Snagem is under orders to eliminate you if they see you." Ash sighed but nodded. He then noticed Wakin discreetly begin moving two of his fingers in and out, occasionally making a grabbing motion with the hand.

"I am sorry. You won't be leaving this town." With that, Wakin moved his hand down to a Pokeball. When Serena suddenly stepped out.

"Stop lying! If Ash really was a part of your team, that would make him as bad as Team Rocket! Instead, he helped me from some kidnappers!" She then smiled and grabbed Ash's hand.

"Don't worry, I'll make sure the mayor brings these hooligans to justice!" She had her eyes closed while smiling, thinking Ash would be happy. When she opened them, however, Ash was partially glaring at her.

She then looked at the Snagem grunts and saw that they looked hurt and very ashamed.

"Serena, it's true. I used to be a part of Team Snagem." Serena's eyes widened as she partially backed away from Ash. Wakin then turned his head to Serena.

"And not just any member. He was the 2nd in command, and the best snagger we ever had. Before he trashed our hideout, he stole 2 prototype mobile Snag Devices. That thing you see on his left arm? That's it. When you put a regular Pokéball in it, it changes to a Snag Ball. It can override a Trainer's lock and take it away. So, sorry to burst your prince charming daydream, but he's not as innocent as you think." Serena then looked to be on the verge of tears. Ash looked at her saddened, then glared at Wakin.

"She has nothing to do with this, Wakin. Leave her." Wakin looked at Ash sadly. Then Ash saw him do the same gestures as before.

"We will, Ash, after we kill you. And take the Sang Machines back. CORPHISH! KOFFING! ATTENTION!" With that, Wakin threw two Pokeballs out. A big purple rock with holes came out and a Lobster/crab fusion also appeared. They then saw Ash and turned to their trainer, clearly not happy about the turn of events.

"Yeah, I take no pleasure in this either, you two. But orders are orders." Ash quirked a brow at that. Since when the hell did Wakin care about orders?

"Pikachu! Froakie! Let's do this!" With that, his two faithful starters ran forward.

"Use Thunderbolt!" Pikachu began charging up, but since he didn't specify which target, both were on edge. Wakin looked closely at Pikachu's eyes, then realized who the target was.

"Use Protect!" He called out. Pikachu released the electricity …

But Koffing was covered by a green field, which blocked the electricity from touching it.

"Still using that strategy, I see. Aim for Pokémon who is not going to be Super Effective. Given how Koffing is a beast when it comes to putting Poison on Mons, it makes sense. But you could have been less obvious about it!" Koffing nodded …

Before an orange orb suddenly knocked into the back of his head and sent him into the ground.

"Dammit. Misdirected. "Wakin said as he forgot it had been a double battle, and Froakie had used Smackdown on Koffing.

"Use Bubble Beam!" Corphish quickly began firing a barrage of Bubbles at both Pikachu and Froakie, forcing them to dodge as Koffing quickly got his bearings back.

Pikachu and Froakie were running around, avoiding the bubbles via Quick Attack. Ash then smirked.

"Pikachu, use Iron Tail on Koffing! Aim him at Corphish!" Both Pikachu and Froakie realized what the plan was and executed it. Koffing noticed that Pikachu was heading right for him, so he got a Gunk Shot ready to shoot at him. Wakin, however, realized Ash's plan.

"Koffing, don't! Pikachu is getting ready to use your Gunk Shot on Corphish!" Koffing heard that, and quickly tried to reorient himself away from Corphish, but Pikachu used Quick Attack to make sure Koffing didn't get too far, then leapt over him, and slammed his tail into his back, causing him to spit the attack at Corphish anyway.

"Use Protect!" Corphish quickly erected a green barrier, just like Koffing had done earlier.

"Use Feint!" Suddenly, Pikachu appeared inside the barrier and socked Corphish across the face. The barrier disappeared and Corphish got hit by the Gunk Shot. It only got worse when it glowed purple.

"THUNDERBOLT! WATERPULSE!" Pikachu and Froakie then shot their most current powerful moves and when the smoke cleared after the connection, both Corphish and Koffing were on the ground with swirly eyes.

When Wakin returned his friends to their balls, he and Ash stared daggers at each other, not moving an inch. Serena was fearful of what would happen, then saw Wakin raise a hand, and then cross two fingers and make a diagonal slash with them. Ash nodded and repeated the motion.

"Next time we meet Ash, you won't be so lucky." With that, he and the two grunts he brought with him turned around and walked away.

Ash and Serena had walked down a bit, while Serena was keeping her distance, clearly not liking the fact that Ash was a part of a team. She then stopped, which Ash recognized as her wanting him to stop, giving the clicks of her heels on the concrete when she stopped.

"Um, Ash …" She began when she saw him looking at her.

"Go on, I have a feeling I know what you're going to ask but go ahead." Serena then looked at the ground, hiding her face.

"Is it true? You guys in Team Snagem would just take Pokémon whether the Pokémon cared?" Ash then sighed, but then looked at his two friends who nodded.

"In a way, yes." Serena then felt tears starting to form.

"But it was to protect them from their abusive trainers." Serena's head shot up at that.

"But the news reports said- "

"All lies. That guy, was Pikachu's original trainer." Serena then looked at Pikachu, who nodded.

"But why? Didn't your original trainer give you everything you wanted?" Ash then sighed.

"No. All the guy wanted Pikachu to do was evolve into a Raichu to turn him into a living battery. Pikachu didn't want to evolve just for that, but the guy first tried to make him so comfortable to let his guard down, then he had his other Pokémon attack him. If we hadn't arrived, Pikachu would be nothing more than a glorified Double A battery." Pikachu then tilted his head down in gratitude towards Ash.

"Gonzap saw how well I treated him, and how we were bonding. As such, he said that if Pikachu was ok with it and I wanted to, he could be my first Pokémon." Serena then began to smile, but then realized that she had never asked him his story but saw the look in his eyes and decided to ask that at a different time.

"What about Froakie? I'm from Kalos and I didn't expect to see a starter from my region." Froakie then crossed his arms.

"Believe it or not, I'm Froakie's 10th Trainer. He basically had trouble finding the right one, however, his 9th Trainer went too far. After Froakie stopped listening to him, he tried beating him to get him to obey, then, instead of sending it to the professor, he came here and tried to beat him one last time. If Froakie still refused to obey, he would just release him in the uninhabitable desert and leave him to die. Me, Pikachu and Gonzap had been on our way back from another abusive trainer when we saw this fiasco going down. We recorded it, and then we used a prototype snag ball to get Froakie away from him. Gonzap contacted Sycamore, but Sycamore said that, while he was happy Froakie was ok, he was worried about us getting tracked, and said that if Froakie wanted to stay with us, he could."

Froakie hung his head, remembering how that arrogant idiot thought that he could take down a Chesnaught in one move with, of all things, FRIGGIN BUBBLES.

"When Froakie saw me and Pikachu training, he decided to join in. Soon, we were inseparable. Gonzap then made it official, and we became one of the best snag teams in the world." Serena then looked at him with a serious expression.

"So, why did you leave? It sounds like they were practically your family." Ash then began to take on a dark expression, which made Serena worried.

"Something changed. One day, Gonzap came back saying he had found an organization to help us pitch our equipment to the PLA. A team went there, and never came back. We were told that they had just abandoned the equipment and had run onto a boat, but when me and Gonzap went to the area, we found their dead bodies." He had tears in his eyes when he said that.

"Then, new recruits were brought in, and while some shared our original vision, most were interested in using this technology to steal from trainers, regardless of the Pokémon feelings. Some even began to insult me for Pikachu and Froakie, though Gonzap soon proved why HE was the leader of Snagem." Ash then took a deep breath, and Serena could tell the next part was something he was horrified by.

"Then one day, we were told to go steal 2 Eevee from a trainer. We thought the trainer had been abusive, but when we found her, she never did anything. The Eevee were very happy and healthy. We were about to just scrap the mission, when it happened." Serena was shocked when Ash began to cry.

"Those new recruits I told you about? They literally grabbed her and demanded her two Eevee. We tried to get them off her, but one of them pulled out a gun. He tried to shoot Gonzap, but he missed and got the woman in the leg. Then another grabbed her and threw her into the water. She never resurfaced. While the organization tried to say it was for the best and the recruits did good, Gonzap and I had enough. From what Wakin told me, for the first time in his life, he made those recruits learn the hard way to not do it. I never saw the Eevee again. As for me, I decided if someone was trying to force us down a path we didn't want to walk, I would instead leave. Gonzap had something happen to where he couldn't leave, but I wasn't going to listen. I told my two best buds what we were going to do, and they agreed." Serena was in tears at the story. Through tears, she then asked a question.

"So, if the same thing were to happen again, you would help me out of that sack?" Ash then looked at her in the eyes.

"In a heartbeat." Serena then hugged him, which unknown to her, caused him to blush, then glared at Pikachu and Froakie who were laughing at him. Then Serena looked at him after she pulled off him.

"You said this thing was called a Snag Machine?"

"Yeah. A portable one, so we don't have to lug a separate machine to change a Pokéball to a Snag Ball. That's why I took both the Male and Female versions with me. If they were going to backstab us, I was going to make sure they didn't get their hands on it." Serena then looked at him with eyes beaming.

"Then maybe you can help me get that Pokémon away from those two lunkheads! Please, Ash?" She then took on big Rockruff eyes as she had her hands clasped together. Ash was hesitant to do so, given how dangerous it was, but seeing Serena like this?

Surprisingly, he turned into putty.

Which his partners started sniggering at.

"Alright, but we gotta get to my bike first." Serena nodded as they went to the gate Ash had come through.

"So, you're actually a right hander?" Serena asked as the side car was revealed to have a stash of Pokéballs in it.

"Yeah, the reason it's on my left hand is so that it's harder to read where my throw is going. My right hand is easy to tell where I'm throwing since it's my dominant hand. The left hand, being my non-dominant hand, doesn't react the same way my right hand does. For me, I must do a bit of a spin to accurately aim it." Ash told her, as he slotted 4 balls into his waist and put the rest in his pocket.

They were about to get on it to go looking for the two kidnappers when they saw the woman from before running to them.

"Ash! Serena! Those two ruffians from before! They're back!" Ash and Serena quickly got off the bike.

"Where?"

"Mayor's house! I don't know why but they seemed very angry about something!" With that, the two of them and Pikachu and Froakie took off for the mayor's house.

The door quickly burst open as Ash and Serena quickly tried gauging the situation. They immediately recognized Trudy and Folly. The one person who they didn't know was the one who had his back to them.

It was clear that they were recognized as well, as Folly quickly pointed at them.

"MASTER MIROR B! IT'S HIM! HE'S THE ONE WHO TOOK ME DOWN AND TOOK THAT GIRL FROM US!" The man quickly turned around, wearing a gaudy looking gold outfit with cowboy boots and a ridiculous looking Pokéball Afro on his head, with glasses that looked very similar to a Galar ZigZagoon mask.

"Him? You got beaten by him?" Folly gulped at the man's question, very clearly not in a good place with him right now.

Miror B then walked right up to Ash and looked down at him given the height difference.

"So, you were the one who took out my men." With that, he suddenly began laughing.

"You were defeated by THIS kid!? How can you possibly expect me to believe that!?" Ash then glared at him.

"Team Sangem's 2nd in command and best snagger." Miror B suddenly stopped laughing at glared daggers at him.

"So, they weren't making that up. Well, as much as I want to punish you MYSELF for getting in our way, I had an important meeting with the boss, but it seems with your presence, that is no longer in the cards. I'll have to change it to a call. I'll give you a chance to redeem yourself, Folly. Take him out, and don't either of you hesitate to use the special weapon." Suddenly, he pulled out a switch …

"LET THE MUSIC PLAY!"

And salsa music began playing from that ridiculous Afro of his as he then, quite literally, DANCED his way out the door. Ash stayed focused on Folly though, who was squarely glaring at him.

"You may have gotten the drop on me before, but this is where the real fight begins!" He then threw out 2 Pokéballs, one revealing a Whismur, while the other had what looked like a frog with a lily pad on its back.

"LOTAD!" It cried at its opponents, Pikachu and Froakie having already run onto the field.

"Use – "

"Thunderbolt! Water Pulse!" and it was over that quickly.

Folly just stared at his charred Lotad, who hadn't even gotten a chance to use a Grass move on Froakie, and at his absolutely washed Whismur, whose mouth was filled with Water, but not to where it was choking.

Trudy just shook his head.

"Yeah, that's about how I expected it to go. But now," He then adopted a smirk right on his face as he glared at Ash, "It's my turn, pest."

Trudy, like his partner, threw out 2 Pokéballs and threw them out.

What came out of the left one was a Ghost like Pokémon that had a skull face, and the other was a small green Spider.

"Use Stringshot, Spinarak! Duskull! Use Dark Pulse!" With that, Spinarak began trying to coat the floor with a bunch of webs while Duskull shot a pulsing beam of dark energy at Pikachu. Pikachu jumped out of the way, and began running around, trying to avoid the areas that Spinarak had covered.

Froakie had jumped out of the way of Spinarak shooting some webs at him, when he found himself planted on the ground.

"Use Frubbles! Trap Spinarak!" Grabbing a bunch of Frubbles from his neck, Froakie began watching Spinarak, waiting for the right opportunity to get him.

Spinarak, not interested in getting hit, was jumping around like crazy. Unfortunately, he was following a pattern.

One which Froakie immediately identified.

He threw the Frubbles and Spinarak jumped, expecting them to miss.

Only to find out that Froakie had seen where he was going to jump. He got hit by the Frubbles and when he hit the ground, he was stuck on his back, leaving his underside exposed.

"Use Water Pulse!" Froakie then fired the attack at the ground, breaking it and the recoil launching him up into the air.

"Now use Bounce!" With that, Froakie aimed at an area that had no webs on it, and then catapulted himself higher.

When Spinarak looked up, it saw Froakie coming down.

Straight onto its stomach.

Spinarak couldn't move out of the way, and it couldn't protect its targeted area.

When the dust settled, Spinarak was out cold.

(AT THE SAME TIME WITH PIKACHU)

Duskull was shooting Shadow Balls and Dark Pulses at Pikachu, who was using Quick Attack to dodge them all. Problem was, waiting for it to tucker out? Very complicated when your opponent is a Ghost.

Ash then saw it about to try and do a Will-O-Wisp. And he knew just how to stop it.

"Counter Shield Pikachu!" Pikachu then began spinning like a disc on his back, while then starting to discharge electricity. As he began to spin faster and faster, the Electricity began spinning around him, when the Will o Wisp then slammed into it.

The attack sputtered out, despite most claiming nothing could stop it.

Pikachu, however, wasn't done yet, he then began spinning TOWARD Duskull, who was busy dodging the excess electricity coming it's way.

"Use Astonish!" Duskull suddenly appeared in front of Pikachu, and made a loud clapping sound in its face. Pikachu was thrown out, canceling the shield.

Ash noticed that some sparks suddenly came off of Duskull, and smirked, knowing what had just activated.

"Pikachu! Right yourself, and use Volt Tackle!" Pikachu reoriented itself and landed on all fours, then began charging towards Duskull with an electrical aura around it.

"Dodge, Duskull!" Duskull tried to move, but electricity suddenly began shooting out of it, causing it to freeze in place and get hit.

When Duskull crashed near Trudy, it's eye was in a spiral, meaning it was knocked out.

Trudy then saw the events with Froakie, and then growled.

"I admit, you got that rank in Snagem well. However," He then produced a dark colored ball, "I doubt you have ever seen this Pokemon before."

He threw it out, and unlike the other ones, this one seemed to spill out darkness instead of the usual light a Pokéball gives off. What emerged was a black and blue jackal like Pokemon, and it looked angry. Trudy then smirked.

"Not many folks have seen a Riolu before in these parts, and I have a feeling it's going to make mince meat of –" But he was cut off when Ash shouted something at him, clearly being angry.

"WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO THAT RIOLU!?"
