Chapter 1: A Soul.

"The stories of the past can be a symbol to lift the soul or to crush under its weight."

Vale, the city of lights and new beginnings. A melting pot of culture and people. Where one can find success or taste the bitter taste of failure.

This is the place one Jaune Arc landed in to start his new life. One full of new wonders and hope. With things looking up for the youth.

"Blargh!" the youth in question was emptying the contents of his stomach into the trash.

"Ugh, I won't leave solid ground again. Flying is for the birds." He continued to pour his sorrows into the bin as people swiftly avoided him.

Minutes later a refreshed blonde made his way from the station and onto the streets. Wideye and amazed by the sprawling city.

"This place is huge. How does anyone not get lost?" He passed by a variety of businesses that offered goods. Such as scroll repairs, fancy watches or an old clock shop from the looks of it.

He stopped for a moment to pull out a piece of paper. On it was his destination with the street number and building number. The only problem was he didn't have a clue as to where that was.

"Excuse me." he asked a nearby couple only for them to ignore him and continue walking. 'Huh, they must have been in a hurry. I can find someone else to help me.' Jaune was not deterred and continued to ask for the locals to little success.

"People here are rude. I mean, is it too much to ask for a little help?" Jaune let out a long sigh as he slouched his shoulders. "It's not like I'll just run into someone who'll-. Oof." he cried as he was thrown back.

"My apologies lad I didn't see you there!" A rather loud and boisterous voice said. The figure before him extended a hand and with a firm grip pulled him to his feet.

Jaune stared at the man before him. He was a rather tall man with a large waist and buttoned up red jacket. His most outstanding features were his thick mustache and eyebrows. Which made it hard to tell if he was squinting or not.

"You alright my boy didn't hit the ground too hard I hope." The man spoke, scanning him for injuries with a little bit of concern. Jaune blushed in embarrassment as he realized he'd been staring.

"No. No, I'm fine thank you very much sir. I also should be the one apologizing I wasn't paying attention to where I was going." Jaune said and gave the man a little bow.

"Bah, no apologies need my boy. I also was lost in thought trying to determine the best gift for my wife for our anniversary today." He rambled on from there about wanting to get her a monumental gift but couldn't think of anything.

"Um I don't know If my opinion will help Mr?" Jaune asked for his time earning a tad of embarrassment from the man.

"OH. Forgive me lad I am Peter Port. You may call me Port for short. And your name young man?" He inquired and Jaune answered. "Capitol It's a pleasure to meet you Jaune! Now come along my boy, we have a momentous day to plan!" He said and wrapped a large limb around the boy.

"Hey wait I never said-" Was all Jaune got out before Port rushed off and took him with.

Port was an object of nature there couldn't be any other explanation. One moment they were talking and next he whisked him away to a dinner and the very both they now occupied.

"I had wanted to get her the finest jewelry but I then remembered she doesn't wear any." Port let out a loud laugh at his tale.

"Yeah." Jaune let out a weak chuckle as he slurped his drink. The man sure loved to hear the sound of his own voice that's for sure.

"Any thoughts?" he suddenly asked. shaking the poor poy from the safety of his thoughts.

"Uuum." He drew a large blank. 'What did dad do for mom and theirs?.' A number of images flashed through his mind. "How about something simple like taking here to the place you two met." Port had pulled out a notepad from nowhere and was taking notes.

"Yes. Yes, and feel that spark of love we both felt in that moment. Wonderful any more suggestions my boy, no my friend." Here Jaune gave the man a few more tips like surprising her with some chocolates and maybe a rose or two. Before taking her home for a meal cooked by him and a romantic movie.

Port ate it up and at the end had given Jaune a back breaking hug. It honestly felt like being squeezed by an anaconda and he swore a rub or two had broken.

Shortly after the two had split ways but not before Port was able to give him directions. Despite being an oddball the man was one of the good ones.

Finally after being lost and running into a force of nature he'd arrived. Before him was a rather run down apartment near the slums of Vale. Knocking twice on the door he didn't have to wait long before it swung open and out stepped a large man.

He wore a black vest over a white dress shirt, a red tie, black gloves and black dress pants. He had gray eyes, short black hair, along with a matching beard and mustache.

"What do you want, kid?" he grumbled. Making Jaune nervous.

"Ah, I'm here for the apartment." Jaune stuttered out and the man's glare softened and waved him in.

"I expected you to arrive earlier but nevermind that. Just like in the agreement. You'll be renting this place from me so I expect you to take care of it." He threatened at the end making Jaune nod quickly.

"Good. Everything is fine but should something break don't hesitate to call me. I don't want you trying to fix something half assed for it to break later." Jaune nodded once again. Junior gave him the key and his number then left shortly after.

"Welcome to Vale Jaune." The boy said to himself as he collapsed onto the nearby couch and felt the day's events catch up to him and swiftly fell asleep.
