Probable two-shot, possibly longer. I own nothing, etc.
Teal'c had had every intention of keeping the relationship between Vala and Daniel during the fifty years in the time dilation field a secret.
At first, it was solely because he, in a few discussions with Colonel Carter regarding timelines, had concluded that knowing what had occurred during the fifty years would serve no purpose in this particular area. Any choices the rest of SG-1 or General Landry had made were of necessity heavily influenced by their confinement to the ship, and there was no way of knowing if Daniel and Vala would make other choices now that they could travel freely. The knowledge that they had entered into physical relationship might only serve to make them - and as a result, the rest of SG-1 - uncomfortable. While the Colonel intimated that she and O'Neill thought the two would develop a romantic relationship on their own, she and Teal'c agreed it would be best if the two reached that decision in their own time.
He had another reason for maintaining the secret. Once Vala began incessantly quizzing him regarding what had occurred during that time period, Teal'c developed a perverse satisfaction in refusing to tell her anything about it. He could maintain his stoic expression while she tried to wheedle the information out of him, but he was smiling on the inside. He could now understand how O'Neill felt sometimes.
Now, however, Teal'c was beginning to question his decision.
Vala's questions had ceased, but the verbal war between her and Daniel had only increased. For Teal'c, who had grown accustomed to the two of them actually getting along, the arguments were rather grating. It was even beginning to annoy Colonel Mitchell - more than usual, that is.
Teal'c knew that if the two could... release some of the tension between them, the verbal sparring would calm down. However, he did not see how the two of them would reach such a point on their own. When he was not on a mission, Daniel was burying himself in translating some documents from Atlantis. Vala would run in to attempt to talk with him for a while, but would usually end up being rebuffed and going to work with Colonel Mitchell instead. They were not making any headway at all.
Teal'c decided that some action was needed - but what? It was time for another conversation with Colonel Carter.
Unfortunately, Colonel Carter seemed quite keen to go home. She was actually in her so-called civvies at a reasonable hour, putting on her leather jacket as he spoke with her. "Teal'c, it is the weekend. Could whatever it is you want to talk about wait until I get back on Monday?" she asked, head tilted pleadingly.
Teal'c actually appeared to grimace. "I suppose."
Apparently, the presence of a new facial expression was enough to convince his team member that he needed to talk. She breathed out through her nose in what was almost a sigh. "C'mon, Teal'c. We'll go to General Landry, and I'll clear you coming to stay over at my place for the night. We'll talk whatever this is out."
Teal'c bowed his head in grateful acquiescence. "Thank you, Colonel Carter."
General Landry's permission was easy to acquire, and after picking up a bag for the night and the distinctive "Murray" hat, Teal'c and the Colonel made their way to her house. Another vehicle was parked in the driveway, and Teal'c realized that he had unintentionally infringed on Colonel Carter's plans for the evening.
She was already exiting her vehicle, and he slipped out to follow her. "Colonel Carter, I must apologize-".
She waved a hand, dismissing his apology as she led the way to her front door. "Don't worry about it, Teal'c. My visitor would love to see you anyway." She looked over her shoulder and gave him a cheeky grin before she unlocked the door and walked through it.
"Hey, Carter," a familiar and more than welcome voice called out from the direction of the kitchen. "The beer is cold, the pizza is here, and-" the voice stopped as the speaker rounded the corner. Jack O'Neill briefly looked surprised before giving the unexpected guest a grin. "Teal'c!"
Teal'c inclined his head, smiling. "O'Neill. It is good to see you again."
The Colonel slipped to O'Neill's side and dropped a quick kiss on his lips. Teal'c was glad when the two had finally married, even if it was a closely kept secret. It made him feel even worse about interrupting one of the weekends the two were able to steal together. The feeling increased when O'Neill slipped an arm around her waist and gave her what Teal'c had heard Colonel Mitchell call a "once-over." It was clear what the pair would have been doing had Teal'c not been there.
Before he could apologize, however, the Colonel spoke. "I've brought Teal'c home for the night, Jack. He seemed like he really needed to talk." She glanced over at him in some concern, but her mouth appeared ready to curve into a smile. "His face actually moved when we were on base - he almost frowned."
O'Neill's eyebrows rose. "You frowned, Teal'c?"
Used to O'Neill's sense of humor, Teal'c dryly replied, "Almost, O'Neill."
"Well!" O'Neill exclaimed, slapping the hand that wasn't occupied with his wife on his thigh as he began steering her towards the kitchen. "Good thing I got extra pizza. C'mon, T! Let's eat. We'll talk about it after."
Teal'c was more than happy to follow. The three of them loaded their plates and made themselves comfortable in the living room. The food and light-hearted exchange of stories about what each person had been doing recently helped Teal'c to relax. It seemed he had needed what was essentially a team night more than he had realized.
Pizza gone, O'Neill tucked a contented Colonel Carter under his arm. "Alright, Teal'c," the General asked as he kicked his feet up on the coffee table. "What's on your mind?"
Teal'c straightened a bit, hesitating before he spoke. "It is a somewhat difficult matter, O'Neill. It concerns Daniel Jackson and Vala Mal Doran."
Colonel Carter looked at him, a puzzled expression on her face. "What about them, Teal'c?"
Teal'c addressed himself to her in appeal, conscious that O'Neill was watching him intently as well. "Recently, they have begun arguing even more than usual."
The reactions of the two Air Force officers couldn't have been more different. The Colonel's eyebrows scrunched together as she quite clearly thought back over the time she had spent around the pair. O'Neill, however, slowly smirked, one eyebrow rising.
"Ah, yes," O'Neill drawled. "Daniel has been mentioning her getting on his nerves a little more often in his emails." His smirk stayed on his face, alerting Teal'c to the fact that the General had more to say on the subject than he currently was.
Colonel Carter slowly nodded as she made her conclusion. "Yes, I think they have. I've been so caught up in helping with the modifications for the X-302 in my spare time that I'd hardly given it much thought."
Teal'c was quick to respond. "I have."
The Colonel laughed sympathetically, while O'Neill practically barked with amusement. "Gettin' to you, huh, T?"
His voice lowered in annoyance. "Indeed."
Colonel Carter turned to her husband, a Vala-like wheedling expression on her face. "Any ideas, Jack? I've tried talking to them in the past, but I don't make very much headway unless we're on mission."
The General leaned back, humming in thought as he absently stroked her arm with his thumb. Then, something hit him, and a devious smile crept over his face.
He looked down at his wife, eyes gleaming with mischief. "Couple's therapy."
Teal'c raised an eyebrow as Colonel Carter's eyes grew wide. "Couple's therapy? Are you sure?"
"Hey, Carter," O'Neill said in amusement. "Didn't we agree they're basically a couple already? Sounds like they're in need of a little good old-fashioned military mandated therapy."
The Colonel's lips curved in amusement. "Oh, you would have loved that back in the day," she mused knowingly.
He grinned. "Lucky for us, we were a lot quieter with our lovers' quarrels... And everything else."
She fully grinned then, before remembering they had a guest. After clearing her throat and blushing just a bit, she turned back towards Teal'c. "That just might help. Especially if they are told to be there."
O'Neill looked at Teal'c and nodded. "Oh, they will be. I'll give Hank a little phone call. If they're bugging him half as much as they are you, he'll jump at the chance to get them on the couch."
The Colonel's breath hitched as she started to giggle, and the General's eyes widened when he realized what exactly he'd said. Then his face grew stern.
"No giggling, Colonel," he ordered gruffly, a mock seriousness in his eyes. She wasn't quite successful at stifling her giggles, and O'Neill looked back over at Teal'c. "I tell you, T, I get no respect around here," he jokingly complained.
Teal'c raised both eyebrows. "On the contrary, O'Neill. I believe you get the respect you deserve."
Colonel Carter began laughing, hard, and the General shook his head, beginning to laugh himself. Teal'c smiled. He'd spent over fifty years working with the Tau'ri, and he still enjoyed this comfortable companionship with them. He was at ease, in the company of two of his closest friends and with a probable solution for his earlier source of irritation. As his Tau'ri friends would say, things were looking up.
Decision made, Teal'c began offering to take a cab back to Cheyenne Mountain, but the Colonel and General insisted he stay. They settled in to watch Star Wars, O'Neill finally agreeing to watch the movie Teal'c loved so much. Teal'c was amused by O'Neill's reactions, still shaking his head as the three finally turned in for the night.
The next morning, in gratitude for his friends' help, Teal'c refrained from mentioning any of the noises he had heard through the walls during the night.Teasing the couple was not worth losing any help in the future, and at any rate, it was still better than listening to Vala Mal Doran and Daniel Jackson.
