Chapter 1 Just A Sprain
Russell was playing with his friends Hank, Butch and a few of the neighborhood kids they openly knew about the bots and were keeping secret from others in town. The only adult who knew was Russell's father. Slipstream and Jetstorm were joining in on the fun. They were playing a game of tag and Jetstorm was it. "I am going to get you guys," Jetstorm said chasing them.
"Catch us if you can Jetstorm," Russell called.
"He couldn't catch any of us even if he tried," Butch said.
"Come on Butch be nice," Hank said.
They were moving through the trees when Jetstorm tripped over a large tree root and twisted his ankle and fell to the ground. "Oof," Jetstorm said.
"Jetstorm just fell," Slipstream said.
"He will be fine," Butch said.
"Ow!" Jetstorm said.
They all came over too him. "Are you okay Jetstorm?" Russell asked.
"I don't know," Jetstorm said. He tried to get up but struggled to do so. "Ow that really hurts," he said holding his ankle while sitting on the ground.
"I will go get Drift," Slipstream said and ran off.
Slipstream saw Drift training nearby. "Master Drift," Slipstream said.
"What is it Slipstream I thought you and Jetstorm were playing with the kids," Drift said seeing his student come up.
"Jetstorm is hurt," Slipstream said.
"Oh dear," Drift said and followed Slipstream saw Jetstorm on the ground holding his ankle.
"Are you okay Jetstorm?" Drift asked kneeling down.
"My ankle it hurts," Jetstorm said.
"Well what happened?" Drift asked.
"I tripped over that tree branch right there," Jetstorm said "and my ankle turned the wrong way when I did," he added.
"We better get you to the scrapyard," Drift said picking him up. Jetstorm was sitting on an exam table.
"I am taking a look now," Fixit said. "Does it hurt when I touch it?' he asked touching the hurt joint.
"A little," Jetstorm said.
"Try flexing your foot," Fixit said.
Jetstorm tried to do so. "Ouch!" Jetstorm said. "That hurts," he said.
"Here Jetstorm this cold pack will help ease the pain and reduce the inflammation of your circuits," Drift said placing it on his ankle.
"That's cold," Jetstorm said.
"Is it broken?' Butch asked.
"I am doing a scan right now," Fixit said. "My scans show it is not broken," he said.
"That's good," Jetstorm said.
"But my scans show it is a sprain." Fixit said. "You will need to rest your ankle for a few days," he said. "Which means no running, no playing, no missions, no patrol and no training for a few days," he said.
"Aw man," Jetstorm said. Fixit was wrapping Jetstorm's ankle.
"Try not worry to my student your ankle will heal before you know it, just rest," Drift said. "I know you Jetstorm, you are determined to do better and do more things no matter what happens to you, because you are hurt you must rest," he said.
"Yes teacher," Jetstorm said. "This is not going to be enjoyable, it is going to be rather boring the next few days," he said.
"There all wrapped up," Fixit said. "Is it too loose?" he asked.
"No," Jetstorm said.
"Is it too tight?' Fixit asked.
"No," Jetstorm said.
"Here Jetstorm I found these crutches in back they are just the right size for you, you can use these to get around while staying off your hurt ankle," Denny said. "You just have to figure out how to use them," he said.
Jetstorm tried a few times and managed to get the hang of the crutches. "Okay now you must rest now pupil," Drift said.
"Yes teacher," Jetstorm said. Then sat down on a crate. Fixit moved a crate over.
"Put your ankle up on this you need to keep your ankle propped up," Fixit told him. "It has to be elevated," he said placing Jetstorm's ankle on the crate.
"Here this pillow should help elevate it a little more," Russell said placed the pillow under in his ankle.
"That does feel a lot more comfortable I must admit," Jetstorm said.
Jetstorm saw the others training and he was kind of upset about not being able to train with them. It was kind of hard to watch. "I wish I could join in," Jetstorm said.
"I know, but you need to rest your ankle," Fixit said.
"I sure hope it heals soon," Jetstorm said.
Fixit was working on something. "I have detected a Decepticon signal on the scanners," Fixit said.
"Let's rev up and roll out," Bumblebee said.
"Don't worry about Jetstorm Drift we will keep watch over him while you are out," Denny said.
"I trust you will," Drift said. "Slipstream un-deploy," he said.
"Sorry you can't come Jetstorm," Slipstream said and undeployed onto Drift.
Then the team left.
"Well what should I do now?" Jetstorm asked. "I can't train, I can't go on a mission and I can play things like tag or hide and go seek, what should I do?" he asked.
"I know this is disappointing," Russell said. "I know how it feels to be disappointed when you can't do what you want to do," he said.
"You do?" Jetstorm asked.
"Of course I do," Russell said. "Back when I was in 1st grade there was a field trip my class was going to go on I was really looking forward to it, I had my permission slip signed an everything," he said. "But I wound up getting the chickenpox the day before the field trip and had to stay home for seven days and miss the field trip," he said.
"Were you sad?" Jetstorm asked.
"Yes I was sad, I was also angry and disappointed too." Russell said. "I felt it wasn't fair, but dad told me sometimes things like this happen and I have to be patient to get better, then I can get back to doing what I want to do," he told him.
"So you are saying it is okay to feel disappointed but I should be patient until I am healed?" Jetstorm said.
"Yes then you can get back to doing what you like to do," Russell told him.
"But what should I do while I wait?" Jetstorm asked. "Sitting around doing nothing is boring," he said.
"I know it is, but there are things we can do," Russell said.
"Oh," Jetstorm said.
"Here are some video games we can play, you don't need to use your legs to play these games," Russell said. "There are also board games which also don't require running around," he said.
"I have some coloring books and activity books right here with some crayons, colored pencils and markers," Denny said. "These only require you hands to use them," he said. "I also have plain white paper and art paints too," he said. "This way you can do some creative things while resting your ankle," he said.
"Yes there are also a few movies we got here too," Russell said. "We can watch these as well," he said.
"Cool," Jetstorm said.
Jetstorm was soon doing the things Russell and Denny suggested and was able to keep himself entertained.
The team came back. The Decepticon was locked in the stasis pod. "Jetstorm I trust things went well with you here?" Drift asked.
"Yes, Russell told me it is okay to be disappointed when things like this happen and I must be patient if I want to get back do what I want to do," Jetstorm said. "He and Denny also showed me things I can do while my ankle is healing," he said.
"Very good," Drift said.
A few days passed and Jetstorm was doing what Denny and Russell suggested. He was also using the crutches to get around at times. But now his ankle wasn't painful so he was able to walk on it for a bit with a slight limp.
"You have had this sore ankle for a while," Side swipe said to Jetstorm.
"Yes I have," Jetstorm said.
"Well Side swipe as I told my student a sprain can take a long time to heal," Drift said. "How is it feeling today?" he asked.
"Well it is feeling much better, not as sore as it was, I can walk on it easier, but it still hurts slightly when I try to walk normally by putting good weight on it," Jetstorm answered.
"I see, from what I heard from your answer your sprain should be almost completely healed," Drift said.
"Great," Jetstorm said.
A couple of days later Jetstorm woke and began to walk around easily. As the day went on he noticed his ankle didn't have any pain at all. "Hey my ankle it doesn't hurt all anymore," Jetstorm said.
Fixit scanned Jetstorm's ankle. "Good news Jetstorm you ankle, sealed, field, *WHACK* healed." Fixit said.
"That's great," Jetstorm said. "I am so glad," he said.
"It is good to here you are now okay my student." Drift said.
"I am looking forward to getting back to do the things I love," Jetstorm said. "I am eager to return to train master," he said.
"I had a feeling you were," Drift said.
Jetstorm went back to training and was happy to be training again. He was very happy.
