Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter or any of its associated characters: all rights belong to JK Rowling. I do not own any crossover references used in the story: all rights belong to their original creators. I do own any OC spells explained at the end of a chapter.

Plot: Take the Wind and Fire of a Phoenix. Add the Earth and Water of a Basilisk. Throw in the Spirit of a lightning bolt scar, and what do you get? A very different Harry James Potter who, if I were you, I wouldn't make angry. You wouldn't like him when he's angry.

Author's Note: So, here we have a weird sort of twist on a very popular theme, with some fun and games thrown in for good measure.

Hope you like it.

Chapter 1: Why A Hero Screams

For perhaps the first time all year, Madam Poppy Pomfrey was beyond grateful for the fact that the only other occupants to the Hospital Wing were a bunch of petrified students, each of whom she was seriously praying wouldn't be petrified for too much longer, given the latest report from Professor Severus Tobias Snape, regarding the state of the Mandrake Restorative Draught.

At that moment, however, she was grateful for it, as it meant none of them could hear the nerve-jarring, nightmare-inducing screams of sheer terror, agony and torture that were tearing out of twelve-year-old Harry James Potter.

How it had all began, Poppy didn't know…

Element

As soon as peace returned to her Hospital Wing, after the rollercoaster ride of emotions surrounding the recovery and rescue of Miss Weasley, as well as the two boys who'd helped her – Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley – both of whom had been taken to meet and talk with the returned Headmaster Dumbledore, chaos soon descended not long after that.

All of a sudden, just as Poppy had finished checking on the condition of the poor, unfortunate souls in their frozen states, the Headmaster's loyal phoenix, Fawkes, had flashed into the Hospital Wing, accompanied by the aforementioned Headmaster, as well as young Mr Potter, the latter of whom had been bound and tied up in golden, magically-constructed bands.

When the boy touched an empty bed, however, Poppy found out why he was bound: as soon as the Headmaster started removing those bands, the boy started screaming in terror, pain, agony and raw, unyielding torment.

As bad as that was, he also began thrashing about wildly, as though he was suffering from the Merlin of all fits, his screams resonating through the Wing, while the Headmaster, Poppy and even Minerva and Severus all worked together to try and hold the flailing boy down.

But no matter what they tried, nothing worked.

Not a Stunning Spell.

Not a Calming Draught.

Not a Full Body Bind.

Not even the most-powerful Sleeping Spell that the Headmaster himself had cast on the boy.

However, when Severus actually suggested retrieving what he claimed was a diluted variation of the Draught of Living Death, if only to see just how much Potter could take, Poppy put her foot down.

Though not before she forcibly evicted Severus from her wing, if only until he returned with the Mandrake Restorative Draught, whilst swearing that her foot would find his backside if he ever suggested such a thing on one of her patients while she was in earshot.

Element

Now, though, as Poppy watched while the Headmaster reapplied the same golden bands that had held the boy in place upon arrival, tying them to his arms, legs and even setting one around his neck, her heart ached in her chest as she wondered why Harry was screaming like this.

At the same time, she hated herself for thinking it, but she did so regardless;

'Maybe Severus had a point, after all.'

To her relief, however, the bands conjured by Dumbledore seemed to work, if only to stop the boy's flailing motions while, slowly, but surely, his screams turned into croaky cries and whimpers, before his eyelids drooped and, to Poppy's relief, she saw Harry's eyes drooping closed, his breaths slow, calm and edged by a gruff-sounding croak, courtesy of what had to be beyond-broken, injured vocal chords from all his screaming.

"Thank…thank Merlin!" gasped Minerva, wiping sweat from her brow, before she looked to Albus as she asked, "Why…why didn't you keep those…those bonds on him from the start, Albus?"

"Because, technically-speaking, Minerva, they are not supposed to be used at all," explained Albus, a note of mutual relief, as well as pain, clear in his voice as he told his confused deputy. "This particular spell was last used on a person back during the early days of the Muggles' First World War, in a bid to help wizards who had served in the Muggle Forces with what is known as shellshock and night terrors. However, because it places the victim in an enchanted sleep that can only be broken by the conjuror's own magic, the Ministry and the ICW declared it a borderline-Dark Spell. Fortunately, as I have said many times before…being me has its privileges…and, more to the point, as I am sure Poppy will agree; we tried almost everything else."

"Short of letting Severus poison the poor boy, you mean?" asked Poppy, earning another hurt look from Albus as he nodded, before she added, "If anyone questions me about this treatment, Headmaster, I will use your role as the young man's magical guardian to justify you not asking for my permission to use it in my domain…but, that aside; why did you use it the first time when he arrived?"

"I didn't," argued Albus, a note of certainty in his voice as he explained, "The first bonds were put on young Harry by Fawkes here; they were made of Phoenix Fire, in a feat I have only witnessed a couple of other times previously. He then gave me an indication to hold on and, as we saw, he brought us here; I am just thankful that Lucius and Mr Weasley had already left my office."

"But…but what happened to…to Potter, Albus?" asked Minerva breathlessly, looking down at the sleeping preteen on the bed, before she directed her gaze to her friend and superior as she asked him, "Why was he screaming? And what was with that seizure of his? What, exactly, happened to him in your office, in order to leave him like…like this?"

"I honestly do not know, Minerva," replied Albus softly, a note of sorrow in his voice as he too looked down at the lad whom, in such a short time at school, had become like an honorary grandson to him.

After what Harry had risked for the school, twice-now, Albus had actually been making plans to help prepare Harry for whatever might happen next, especially since, on this particular occasion, he had also drawn Godric Gryffindor's legendary sword from the hat, which indicated that the boy had a very strong claim to Godric's legacy, just like his Parseltongue ability and slaying of the Basilisk meant…

"Merlin's beard!"

Suddenly, Minerva and Poppy gasped in amazement, if not shock, when Albus waved his wand through the air once more, this time casting what Poppy recognised as high-grade Healer's Diagnostic and Scanning Enchantments on the sleeping youth. At the same time, Albus' eyes flicked from Harry's slumbering body to Fawkes, who was now resting his beautifully-coloured head next to the young man, crooning softly in apparent worry for the young wizard lying there.

After several seconds, Poppy saw Harry's body light up like a Christmas Tree, indicating several wounded areas on his body, some of which even she hadn't noticed – and given the boy was in here as often as his Father and James' little gang had been, that was saying something – while others, including Potter's lightning-bolt scar, his beating heart and, to her alarm, a very brightly-glowing spot on Potter's right arm, were all glowing brightly with white light that also had several cloudy bursts of black swirling through the colour.

"What…what in Merlin's name?" asked Poppy, while Albus waved his wand once more, this time tapping both Harry's heart, as well as Fawkes' head; this time, a bright, blood-red band of magic formed between the two, before that same magical light started to spread out through Harry's slumbering form, like a spider spinning its web.

In certain places, the light seemed more-vibrant, more-potent and even more-visible, while, in others, it was faded and barely-formed.

"No…I…I don't believe this!" gasped Albus, a note of pure shock, if not fear in his voice as he dispelled the enchantments.

"Albus?" asked Poppy, a note of shock and curiosity in her voice, "What is it? What…what did your spells reveal?"

"Fawkes and Harry have become bonded…almost-symbiotically," explained Albus, looking to Fawkes, who now nodded his head sadly, as though he knew this was what was happening.

"What does that mean?" asked Minerva.

"It…it means…somehow, through…through whatever it is that Fawkes is doing…or…or has done to Harry," explained Albus, a note of awe, as well as dread and wonder lacing his voice as he looked to his deputy and her colleague, "Somehow, even as we speak, Harry's body…his mind…why, even his magical core…they're all being…changed!"

"Into what?" asked Minerva.

"I don't know," admitted Dumbledore sadly, a note of pained confession in his voice, before his words grew ominous, if not curious, as he looked back to the sleeping boy.

"But, whatever it is he may become, I have a feeling it will be something more…more…well, more!"

Wow, talk about a mysterious beginning: apparently, after dealing with Malfoy and the Basilisk, Harry's now being…what? Mutated?

Into what?

What is Fawkes doing to him?

Is it just Fawkes?

What will Harry become?
