Chapter 4 Sick Days

Jetstorm and Slipstream were hanging out and helping Russell practice for a football game with his friends. "You are doing quite well," Jetstorm said.

"Yes you are showing a great deal of improvement even in your weak points," Slipstream said.

"Thanks guys I couldn't have done it without Hank's pointers," Russell said.

Jetstorm and Slipstream could see that. But both of them were not feeling so hot. They were not feeling so well at all. Russell noticed they were not really paying attention at the moment. "You two okay?" Russell asked.

"To be honest I am not feeling so well," Jetstorm said.

"I am not feeling so good either," Slipstream said.

"I see you are starting to sound so good either," Russell said.

"Well we have training we need to do," Jetstorm said.

"That's right," Slipstream said.

"Well I think if Drift finds out you guys are training while you are feeling unwell he might not like it," Russell said. "I know my dad gets upset with me when I do a lot when I feel sick," he said.

"Trust us Russell we are okay," Slipstream said.

"Yes we are just fine so try not to worry," Jetstorm said.

"If you say so," Russell said.

The two minicons started to train. They were feeling very unwell as the day went on. Russell was thinking they should tell Drift they were not feeling well so they could rest.

Drift noticed his students were seeming rather unfocused during training and not as quick and strong as usual. It was very concerning to see. It made him very worried to see this. Russell could see that Drift was worried.

Then Jetstorm and Slipstream collapsed. "Jetstorm, Slipstream!" Drift said running over. He felt their foreheads. "Both of them are burning up," he said.

"How can they be burning up their not on fire," Grimlock said.

"It is an expression Grimlock," Denny said. "He means they both feel hot to the touch, humans tend use this expression when someone has a really bad fever," he said.

"I can tell they both have fevers," Drift said. "I know better than to push my students to train when they are ill," he said.

"I noticed they were not to focused earlier when helping me practice football," Russell said. "Both of them told me they were not feeling well," he said.

"Why didn't they tell me?" Drift asked.

"I don't know either, but they told me they were going to be okay," Russell said. "I simply told them if you found out they were training while feeling sick you probably won't like it," he said.

"You would be right I wouldn't like it at all, I like my students to train when they are feeling 100% because that is when they can give 100%." Drift said.

Fixit scanned the two minicons. "Looks like a bad case of the Cybertronian flu, they just started to show symptoms so they must've caught from when we encountered that Decepticon who touched down a couple of days ago that we let go because he had no criminal record who only landed to repair his ship. He may have come into contact with the virus and unknowing spread it when we helped him repair his ship." Fixit said.

"I see," Bumblebee said.

"I better lay my students in the beds so they can rest," Drift said. "They need a good long rest to get better," he said.

"Yes they will also need lots of Cybertronian fluids and to be kept warm," Fixit said.

Drift nodded his head took Slipstream and Jetstorm to their corridors. He laid them down in their beds. "Drift?" Jetstorm said opening his optics.

"What is going on?" Slipstream asked.

"Both of you have the Cybertronian flu, both of you need to rest," Drift told them.

"Of all the times to get sick," Jetstorm said.

"Yeah," Slipstream said.

"Both of you must rest, I know it is not enjoyable being sick," Drift said. "Keep in mind it is my duty as your teacher and the one who looks out for you, to take care of you," he said. "So try to get some rest," he said.

"Yes teacher," Slipstream and Jetstorm said.

They settled into their beds and got comfortable. Both of them went into sleep mode. Drift was watching over them. He got a couple of cold wash clothes and used them to wipe their heads and faces. "They have horrible fevers the wash clothes get warm so quickly," Drift said.

A bit later Drift came to get some energon so the two of them could refuel. Jetstorm and Slipstream woke up and saw Drift with some energon. "You both need to refuel," Drift said.

"I don't feel that hungry," Jetstorm admitted.

"Neither do I," Slipstream said.

"I know you both don't feel well, but you need to keep up your strength," Drift told them. "Which is why you must refuel," he said.

"Okay," Jetstorm and Slipstream said.

Slipstream managed a third of the cube, while Jetstorm managed a fourth of a cube. "Can I have the rest later I'm tired," Slipstream said.

"Me too, I want to lay down," Jetstorm said.

"At least you drank a little bit of it, now you may rest, you can have more of it later," Drift said.

Jetstorm and Slipstream soon went back to sleep. Drift was starting to make a Cybertronian herbal tea he was given by the circle of light whenever he fell ill. He was taught how to make it. Drift knew it helped boost energy, soothed body aches, eased congestion, eased sore throats, soothed an upset tank, and helped make easier to rest. Now that all the dried herbs and cybertronian tea leaves and started to brew the tea.

Soon the tea was finished.

Both of the minicons woke up from their sleeping hearing Drift come up. "Here you two, this is a special herbal tea my master in the circle of light made me whenever I fell ill, it helps ease the symptoms of sickness," Drift said handing them small cups.

"Thank you," Jetstorm said.

"Thank you," Slipstream said.

"Do be careful it's hot," Drift said. "It also a little bitter, but it will help," he told them.

Jetstorm and Slipstream carefully sipped at the Cybertronian tea. It was a bit bitter like Drift said. They managed to drink the cups of tea he gave them. "How often do we have to drink that?" Jetstorm asked.

"Three cups a day, which is one every eight hours," Drift said. "My master told me that, and how he did for me and even the minicons in his own care, he told me it is a rule that applies to all Cybertronian types of makes," he said.

"You were right about it being bitter," Slipstream said.

"Yes and the bitter taste tends to stay in the mouth," Jetstorm said.

"Yes it does but even though it is bitter, it will help you feel better," Drift said. "It doesn't make the flu go away but it eases the symptoms," he said.

"So you drank this in the circle of light whenever you got sick?" Jetstorm asked.

"Yes every-time, I admit I didn't care much for the taste either," Drift said. "One day my master showed me how to make it so I could do it myself whenever I needed to do it for myself if he wasn't around or if he was too sick to do so for himself," he said. "One day I will teach the two of you how to make it," he said.

"So we can do it for ourselves whenever alone?" Slipstream asked.

"Yes or whenever I am to ill to do for myself," Drift said. "I feel that this is a lesson you both will need to learn, but it can wait until you are better," he said. "Now you must rest," he said.

Over the next few days Jetstorm and Slipstream rested in bed. They had plenty of fluids, refueled, drank the special herbal tea Drift made, and read books. The two of them were eager to get out of bed. During the time they were sick Drift hardly ever left their side. He wanted to make sure they were doing alright. He was taking good care of them.

Then one morning the two minicons woke up and stretched. "I feel so much better," Jetstorm said.

"Me too," Slipstream said.

"Good morning my students how are you feeling?" Drift asked.

"I feel so much better master Drift," Jetstorm said.

"Me too, I feel a lot better," Slipstream said.

Drift felt their foreheads. "No sign of a fever for either of you," Drift said.

Fixit took a look. "Looks like you two are finally over the Cybertronian flu," Fixit said. "But still try to rest and recuperate for the next couple of days so you don't get sick again," he said.

"Once that is over you two may resume your training," Drift said.

"Yes teacher," they said.

Drift nodded to them.

After a couple of days Slipstream and Jetstorm were back to training and full energy. They felt great. Drift was watching them. He was so happy his students were all better. "Next time you don't feel well my students tell me so I can see if you are alright, then we can take of it before you get too sick," Drift said.

"Yes teacher," they said.

"I only say this because I care about you two, and I don't want to see you ill or in pain," Drift said. "You two matter to me a lot," he said. "It worries me at times when you two feel you can't come to me for things like this, even I had to learn to come to my master at times like this," he said. "Just try to remember that for next time," he said.

Jetstorm and Slipstream looked at each other. "Sorry if we worried you master," Jetstorm said.

"Yes we didn't mean too," Slipstream said.

"I know and it's alright," Drift said.

Things were going to be okay now.

To be continued.
