Episode 2: Pilot Part 2
Norway
1975
The Waverider arrived in the woods of Norway near where the team would encounter Savage for the first time. "And we've arrived." Rip said as they landed. "Gideon, if you wouldn't mind camouflaging us as an alpine meadow, perhaps?" Randy was groaning as he unbuckled. "What are you upset about? It's not like we time-jumped." Danny pointed out. "Turns out I'm not good with flying, especially in… whatever you want to call this." Kim looked out the windshield. "So where exactly are we?" she asked. "Are we still in 1975?" "Indeed." Rip answered. "October 1975 on the fjords of northern Norway."
"Sounds like a vacation." Ben stated. "Which we can take as soon as the threat of Savage has been neutralized, Mr. Tennyson." Rip then proceeded to pull out a brown notebook. "That's Professor Boardman's notebook." Dipper realized. "Indeed. He theorized that Savage might be here, and if he's right, and if we can capture Savage, then at least he didn't die in vain." Jenny looked sad. "Can't we just go back and save him?" she asked. Rip shook his head. "I'm sorry, but we can't go back and change events in which we participated in. Time would fold in on itself, creating a temporal vortex."
"So what is Savage doing in Norway?" Steven asked. Rip then went to the table and showed them an image of a weapons auction. "According to Gideon, there is a large meeting of terrorists and fringe groups looking to buy illegal arms." "Sounds like fun." Star stated. Everyone just looked at her. "What?" "So what's the plan." Mabel asked. "It's simple." Rip answered. "You all sneak into the area and pretend to be customers. When you see Savage, you must capture him very quietly and very discreetly."
"Great. So what exactly do we wear to a weapons auction?" Kim asked. "The Waverider has a fabrication room which can fashion temporally-indigenous, uh, fashion." Rip answered. Steven looked surprised. "You have a room that makes clothes?" "Doesn't everyone?"
Kim, Danny, and Dipper proceeded to the fabrication room with Rip. "So how do we blend in?" Dipper asked? Kim gave him a reassuring smile. "It'll be ok. Just follow my lead." "Since when were you calling the shots?" Danny asked. "Since I have experience infiltrating places like this. So I'm in charge." Kim retorted. "Actually, I'm in charge, in case you forgot." Rip interjected. "We know, we just don't care." Danny said angrily. Rip grew frustrated. "Do I need to remind any of you that I'm a Time Master? Making discreate alterations to the timeline is what I do, so we're not just gonna charge into the past like a bull into a china shop…" "Since half of what you've told us about the mission turned out to be lies maybe your leadership isn't as reliable as you say." Dipper pointed out. "None of you have ever encountered Savage before. I have, and I'm telling you now, you are making a big mistake." Kim scoffed at this. "We already did that when we trusted you."
The team arrived at the auction feeling nervous about being surrounded by hundreds of terrorists. Steven noticed the man at the gate was checking credentials. "What do we do?" he asked nervously. Randy looked around and swiped an ID from a nearby crook. "IDS." said the guard. Randy handed over the card and the guard inspected it. "You don't look like an Amhad Ahmed Izz-Al-Din." "I'm half Arab on my mom's side." Randy answered nervously.
Ben walked up to the guard looking angry. "Is there a problem here?" The bouncer looked confused. "I'm sorry?" "You should be. Do you know who we are? We're the organization Scimitar. The Lombardo Square bomb, 1963, the murder of Henri Tyran, Canada, 1970, the Konig Airport massacre, 1971. Point is you don't want to mess with us now let us in." The guard nervously moved out of the way and let the team in. The other looked at Ben shocked. "What?" Dipper broke the silence. "How did you…?" "I've seen a lot of action movies I know how to talk to these guys."
When they arrived inside, they saw groups of terrorists waiting for the auction to start. Outside, Star, Jenny, and Mabel were outside waiting for the signal to attack. "How much longer?" Mabel asked annoyed. "Until Kim gives the signal." Jenny answered. Back inside the others were looking for Savage. "Remember, Savage will be one of the buyers, so keep your eyes peeled." Kim ordered. "I don't see him." Ben pointed out. "Maybe Professor Boardman was wrong."
Then an announcer walked up on stage to begin the auction. "If I could have your attention, please. Thank you all for coming, I promise, it will be well worth your time." The team then noticed a familiar face on stage. "Guys, Savage isn't a buyer." Dipper realized. "He's a seller." Savage then opened a crate revealing a warhead. "This is a variable-yield nuclear warhead, capable of producing a blast equivalent to one megaton of TNT." Savage explained.
The announcer then started the bidding. "Shall we begin our bidding at $100 million?" One of the terrorists shot a gun in the air. "$100 million, do I hear $105 million?" Another shot was fired. "110 million?" Then another shot. "$115 million?" The announcer noticed Savage looked concerned and approached him. "Is everything alright sir?" he asked. "Something doesn't feel right." Savage answered. He then noticed the teens in the crowd. "That group, where are they from?" Savage asked.
The team noticed that they were getting looks and panicked. "Guys, they're staring." Randy pointed out. "What do we do?" "Fire the gun." Kim answered. Randy fired. "That's $125 million. Going once…" "What's happening?" Steven asked. "Going twice…" "I think you mean what's not happening. No one else is bidding." Ben realized. "Sold!" Randy sighed. "Well looks like we bought a nuke."
One of the terrorists walked up to them. "Well, well, we seem to have new players. Who are you?" "As of a few seconds ago, were a nuclear power." Kim answered. "Yet I don't know you or your organization, and I know everyone." said the terrorist. "Also you all seem a bit too young to be in this line of work." "Back off." Ben said. "Watch yourself young man."
Savage and his lackey then walked up to them. "Is there some sort of problem here?" Steven panicked. "Uuuhhh, no everything's fine, so we'll just take out warhead and be on our way." "Not without paying first." Savage stated. Dipper then walked up to Savage. "We will once we can determine if it works." he said as he let out a nervous laugh. "I mean it does see strange that you were able to get enough fissionable material in this era to make a bomb like this." Savage then raised an eyebrow. "This era?" Dipper started sweating. "Uh, figure of speech." Kim then proceeded to push a button alerting the others of their situation.
Jenny heard the beep and turned to the others. "Something tells me we should get in there now." Savage walked back on to the stage and gave an announcement. "Change of plans. I will provide a 25% discount to whoever brings me the heads of this group." Ben turned to Kim. Can we start fighting?" he asked. "Yes." she answered.
Randy put on his suit, Steven summoned his shield, and Ben turned into "Spidermonkey" as the fight began. One guy charged at Kim and she blocked his punch and countered with her own. Ben fired several shots of webbing at some guys with guns disarming them. He then proceeded to leap and hunch each of them with his four arms and tail. "Smoke bomb." Randy shouted as he threw a small pellet-like object towards the ground. With the smoke blinding the thugs, he then proceeded to attack them. Steven held his shield as several guys shot at him. Once the shooting ceased, he threw his shield at them knocking them out. Star and Jenny flew in and joined the fight. They proceeded to shoot at the criminals while flying.
Dipper was being cornered by two thugs holding weapons. "Now would be a good time." He shouted. The thugs laughed. "That eager to die huh?" one of them asked. "I wasn't talking to you." Dipper said as Danny phased through the wall with his hands glowing green. "Surprise!" he said as he shot them. Mabel then approached Dipper. "Are you ok?" she asked. "Yeah, we had it under control." he answered. Mabel shook her head. "How do you actually believe that?" she asked while shooting her grappling hook at a goon knocking him out.
On the stage, Savage watched in awe as the heroes fought for their lives. Never before had he seen anyone with such skill, such power. Then Randy and Ben appeared in front of him. "Vandal Savage, I presume?" Randy asked. Savage just smiled. "An actual ninja. Incredible." He then proceeded to throw a dagger at Randy but he deflected it with his sword. Savage then turned his attention towards Ben. "Such a strange creature." "it's over Savage." Ben stated. "You're coming with us." Savage laughed at this. "I doubt you can apprehend me... and stop a nuclear explosion at the same time." he said as he pushed a button activating the bomb. The bomb was counting down with 5 minutes until the explosion.
Randy and Ben proceeded to fight and Kim looked at the bomb. "Um, we got a nuclear bomb here. Jenny?" Jenny flew over and tried to disarm it, only for the countdown to speed up to 30 seconds. "What did you do?" Kim asked angrily. "I didn't do anything. It must have a fail-safe." Jenny retorted. "Star get this thing out of here." Star then proceeded to take the bomb away. Jenny was then fighting another goon. She was so caught up in the fight that she didn't notice some of her circuits fall off. Star took the bomb up as high as she could and threw it. She then proceeded to fire a blast of magic causing it to leave the atmosphere. The fight was over, but Savage got away.
The team arrived back at the Waverider sulking in defeat. "Nice leadership Kim." Danny said sarcastically. "Hey don't look at me, Dipper's nerves blew our cover." "Excuse me? Steven was just as much as a nervous wreck as me." Steven looked at Dipper angry. "Well excuse me for not having much experience pretending to be a crook." Star then looked at Randy and Ben. "Well these two just stood there and let Savage get away." "Well I'm sorry if my fear of blowing up got in the way." Ben retorted. Jenny sighed. "At least there's one less nuclear bomb on the planet."
Rip then gave a sarcastic slow clap. "Here, here. Now you all deserve a hearty congratulations." he said annoyed. "Not only did you fail to capture Savage, you exposed yourselves and your powers to him, giving away the element of surprise for now and all time. Well done, team." "We don't need the element of surprise." Randy countered. "We know he's in Norway, so let's find him and..." "Unfortunately, we now have larger problems than Savage." Rip interjected. "If only you'd have listened to me about the dangers of upsetting the timeline."
Mabel looked confused. "What are you talking about." "While you were busy saving Norway from nuclear annihilation, Savage sent one of his cronies back to the site of the arms sale." Rip explained. "Anyone care to guess what he found?" They looked confused until Jenny realized that some of her circuits were missing. "Whoops." "I am unversed in modern American colloquialisms. Is 'Whoops' slang for 'Oh'?" Gideon asked. Rip sighed. "Yes, Ms. Wakeman's recklessness seems to have thrown a spanner in the works for the entire timeline."
"What does that mean?" Steven asked. "Armed with Ms. Wakeman's future technology, Savage's engineers develop weapons far more destructive than anything here in 1975." Rip explained. He then proceeded to show them a holographic projection of the future. Amity Park was on fire as Savage's soldiers attacked with new weapons. "This is Amity Park in 2024. At least it was. I'm not sure what the neo-fascists who took control of it are calling it these days." Rip shouted.
The team started to panic. "There's got to be a way we can fix this." Danny said. Rip sighed. "Fortunately, Gideon is just showing us a forecast of the future you've all created. Time is like cement; it takes time to become permanent." Rip explained as he turned to Jenny. "In this case, until Savage's team have worked out the mystery of your future technology and molded it to their own ends. And when they do, what you see here is no longer just a forecast. This…this will be history."
Meanwhile Star noticed Dipper was looking through Professor Boardman's journal. "Find anything interesting in there?" she asked. Dipper looked up shocked. "Oh hey Star. I'm just trying to find a way to take down Savage." She sat next to him. "Are you ok?" Dipper sighed. "I messed up. I exposed us and now Savage knows were coming. I came on this mission because I wanted to make a difference and on my first day, I let my nerves take control."
Star gave him a pat on the back. "Calm down. I know a thing or two about messing up. Like there was this time where I thought football was an actual war and I booby-trapped the field. Or when I tried to fix my boyfriends arm but wound up turning it into a tentacle monster. And don't get me started about the time when I turned my teacher into a troll trying to play matchmaker." Dipper laughed. "My point is we all make mistakes. So don't act like you're the only screw up here."
Dipper smiled but still felt upset. "But you have magic. Danny is half ghost. Steven is an alien hybrid. And Randy is a literal ninja. I'm just some kid who looks for supernatural creatures." Star gave him a reassuring smile. "Well maybe you don't have powers, but from what Mabel tells me you are the smartest person she knows. So use that brain of yours to save the day." Dipper smiled and picked up the journal. "Well according to this, Savage can be killed using objects that were exposed to the same radiation as him, so we need to get our hands on one." Ok, so where do we start?" Star asked. Before Dipper could answer a piece of paper fell out of the journal. He picked it up and saw it was a newspaper clipping with a picture of a dagger on it with the written-on words must work with the message. "With this."
Back on the brig, the rest of the team was trying to figure out how to get Jenny's tech back. "So because Jenny left a few pieces of herself behind none of us have homes to go home to?" Ben asked trying to understand the situation. "Unless we do something to change this course of events, the future will become immutable." Rip explained. "So how much time do we have until Armageddon?" Steven asked. "We only have enough until Savages guys figure out how your tech works." Danny pointed out. Jenny then had an idea. "Were talking about 21st century tech in the 1970s. So we don't need to find Savage, we just need to find my circuits. Which emit high levels of alpha particles that can be tracked."
Randy looked confused. "I don't know what those are, but it sounds good so let's do it." Kim then realized a problem with the plan. "But alpha particles are unheard of in the 70s so how do we find them?" "It just so happens that my mom was studying alpha particles during her time in college." Jenny answered. Danny's eyes widened realizing where this was going. "So to find your missing parts we just have to talk to…" "My mom." Jenny interjected.
Star and Dipper walked in to share their news. "Dipper found a way for us to beat Savage." Dipper then showed them the newspaper clipping. "I found this in Professor Boardman's journal. It's called the Aman Dagger and it was owned by Savage in Ancient Egypt. If we get our hand on it, we can end his threat once and for all." Danny smiled but was hesitant to get excited. "I sense there's a but coming." "But it can only work while speak an incantation on it." Dipper explained.
"Great, anyone know Egyptian?" Ben asked sarcastically. Star smiled. "I can read it." Ben looked shocked. "Seriously?" "These hieroglyphics are similar to ancient mewman writing. With enough time I can read it." Dipper then approached her. "I'll work with Star to decode the message." "Splendid. Now as for the Dagger." Rip sad looking at Randy. "You want me to steal it?" Rip nodded his head. "This is the perfect mission for a man with your skills. But just to be safe take Mr. Fenton and Mr. Tennyson with you as back up."
Ben sighed. "I guess were thieves now." he said as he picked up the newspaper. "According to this the dagger was purchased by some rich Russian millionaire named Sasha Mahnovski." Danny then proceeded to head out. "Alright Ocean's 3, let's do this." Rip then noticed Jenny in her human disguise about to leave. "Oy! Where do you think you're going?" he asked. "To break into my mom's old lab and bring us back her particle tracker." Rip sighed. "Fine, but perhaps, you should take Kim, Mabel, and Steven with you." Jenny looked at Rip annoyed. "Look, interacting with family members in the past can have catastrophic effects upon the future. Especially if they figure out who you are." Rip explained. "Relax with this disguise I'm practically invisible." Jenny assured the captain. "Setting a course for the United States Captain." Gideon said as the ship took off.
Ivytown
1975
Jenny, Steven, Kim, and Mabel arrived at the local university looking for Jenny's mom. They were all wearing standard 70s fashion to blend in. Mabel looked very uncomfortable. "People actually wore this stuff in the 70s?" "My dad says people smoked a lot of pot in the 70s. Maybe it had an effect of the fashion." Steven explained. Kim decided to change the subject. "So where do we find your mom?" Jenny shrugged her shoulders. "Not sure. I know this is where she went to school but this place is huge so keep your eyes peeled."
Just then Jenny noticed in the crowd a young Nora Wakeman talking to some classmates. "There she is." Nora then noticed the group staring at her and approached them. "Can I help you?" she asked. "Maybe. My name is Katherine Freese and these are my friends, Albert, Jane, and Marie." Jenny said as she held out her hand. Nora took her hand shaking it. "Nice to meet you, I'm Nora. Have we met before? You seem familiar." Kim stepped in. "Not exactly but we are familiar with your work. You're a leading expert on alpha particles, right?" Nora scoffed. "Correction I'm the leading expert on alpha particles." she corrected causing Kim to roll her eyes. "Well we were hoping to pick your brain on the subject." Nora smiled. "I'm always happy to educate such young minds. Let's head back to my dorm and well talk there." The group then proceeded to the dorms.
Back on the Waverider, Dipper and Star were in the library doing research in the hopes of helping Star translate the writing on the dagger. "Ok Star, does any of this look familiar to you?" Dipper asked showing her the glyphs. Star looked at them but struggled to translate. "I've got some of the words but the rest is a blank." Dipper pulled out a book on mewman language. "Look here again." Star grew frustrated. "Dipper, shoving books in my face isn't helping me understand this." Dipper backed up. "Ok, ok, let's calm down. Gideon is there any of the writing you can read?" "I'm afraid not Mr. Pines. This 'writing' as you put it is known as Lapidary hieratic, an ancient language lost to the ages." Star groaned. "So even the super computer can't read it." "Perhaps if we had a Rosetta Stone we could translate with ease." "We do. Star is our Rosetta Stone; she just needs to concentrate." Star was taken aback by this. "Excuse me? I am concentrating. All your doing is shoving books in my face."
Dipper grew stern. "Well at least I've managed to focus instead of nodding off daydreaming like a lazy bum." Dipper immediately covered his hands after saying that. Star got really angry. "I am trying my best here dipper. Don't you think I want to figure this out, stop Savage, and save the day? But I'm just no good at this. I'm just as bad at this as I was being a princess." Star shed a few tears and walked away.
Meanwhile, Savage and his minion were approaching a lab discussing what happened at the auction. "The group that disrupted the auction, any idea who they are sir?" Savage thought back to the fight. "A girl that is entirely machine, a boy who can walk through walls, and another who can turn into monsters. Suffice it to say, they're not from around here. I would assume the future." Savage theorized. The goon's eyes widened. "That's impossible." "So is immortality." Savage countered. "Besides how else do you explain them having weapons and abilities far more advanced than anything we've ever seen."
Savage walked towards the lead scientist as he was examining Jenny's circuits. "What can you tell me about it?" Savage asked. The laser technology has a miniaturized guidance system capable of delivering a high explosive ordnance." The scientist explained. Savage grew bored. "You have 24 hours to reverse-engineer it." "Sir this technology is far more advanced than anything I've seen before. It could take weeks, months to figure out the circuitry." the scientist explained. Savage picked up one the circuits and examined it. "It looks simple enough to me. You just press this button here." As he pushed it, it fired a laser at the scientist killing him. Savage then turned to the rest of the scientists. "I said 24 hours. I suggest you all get to work." He then walked out of the room leaving his workers afraid to fail him.
Outside the mansion of Sasha Mahnovski, Randy (suited up), Danny (ghosted up), and Ben (as "Nanomech" on Randy's shoulder) were hiding behind some bushes trying to come up with a plan. "Here come the guards." Randy whispered. Three armed guards approached checking the perimeter of the mansion. Working together, the teens took out the guards and Danny phased them inside the house.
Back at the university, Nora was with Jenny, Steven, Kim and Mabel in her dorm room explaining her work. "And that those are just the basics of working with alpha particles." While they looked interested in what she was saying, the teens were actually bored out of their minds. "Well that is interesting." Kim said trying to sound sincere. "Too bad particle detection is probably decades away." Jenny said trying to get the mission back on track. "More like two decades." Nora added. "But I've been working on a particle tracker that can locate alpha particles anywhere on Earth." Jenny smiled at this. "Really? Think we can see it?" Nora shook her head. "Sorry but its very delicate equipment and I can't risk it breaking." A ding was then heard and she stood up. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have to attend to my dinner." As she left the room, Jenny started looking for the tracker.
"I'm not sure I could have handled listening to her for another second." Mabel said as she got up from her seat." Steven then looked at Jenny. "What are you doing?" he asked as he noticed her rummaging through her mom's stuff. "Looking for the tracker. We need to find it and fast." "Don't worry, we'll stop Savage." Kim reassured her. "It's not just that. October 1975, on this day there's a big conference of the future of robotics that my mom attends. It's also where she gets the idea to create me, so obviously we don't want to keep her from going to the conference by pretending to be interested in science." Jenny explained as she resumed her search.
At the mansion, Danny, Ben, and Randy went into the main room where there were glass cases full of artifacts. "There it is." Ben said as he pointed to the case containing the dagger. They approached the case ready to claim their prize. Randy was about to smash it open but Danny stopped him. "Relax I got this." He phased his hand through the case and grabbed the dagger. "Let's go." Before they could leave alarms went off and a cage fell on top of then trapping them inside. "You got his huh?" Randy said annoyed. "Don't worry I'll get us out." Danny said as he attempted to escape. Unfortunately when he tried, he received a nasty shock. "Ok, were trapped." Ben hopped of Randy's shoulder and managed to slip through the bars in his tiny state. "Oh no were not. I'll look around and see if I can find the off switch."
Jenny soon found the tracker inside a box under the table. "Here it is, now let's get my circuits back." Before they could leave, Nora walked in. "What are you doing?" she asked angry at the fact that her invention was being stolen. "Just looking around." Jenny answered nervously. "What is this it looks interesting?" Nora took her tracker back and started to get tired of this. "How about you all cut the crap." The team started to grow worried. "What do you mean?" Steven asked. "I hold 2 PHDs and I'm working on a third, I'm a four-time presenter at the annual inventions expo" Nora answered. "Bottom line I don't believe for a second that you kids have even the slightest interest in science. So tell me what's going on or I'm calling the police."
Jenny sighed. "I'm not supposed to tell you. But, we're here to interview you for a profile in next month's Well's Journal." Nora was shocked to hear this. "The Wells only profiles Nobel candidates." "An exception is being made in light of your obvious brilliance." Kim answered. "And we know a photograph of this device would make a spectacular cover if we could just borrow it for a few hours." Nora still refused. "Thanks, but I spent two years of my life working on this. I'm not just going to hand it over to a group of complete strangers." Jenny tried to reach for the device but Nora pulled back. "Stay back!" she yelled.
Suddenly, Mabel knocked her out with a lamp and took the tracker much to the surprise of the others. "What did you just do?" Steven asked shocked. "We needed to get the tracker and she refused, I panicked." Jenny immediately ran off and grabbed an alarm clock. "What are you doing?" Kim asked. "The conference is in an hour. I have to make sure mom wakes up in time to attend it otherwise I won't exist." Jenny answered as she placed the clock next to her unconscious mother. They then proceeded to begin the search for Jenny's parts.
Back on the Waverider, Star was sitting in the deck alone and upset. Dipper walked in ready to make amends. "I'm sorry." Star looked up surprised to see him. "I was so eager to stop Savage that I didn't even think about how much you were struggling?" Star sighed. "It's ok. It was my fault for thinking I could do this." Dipper turned to her. "My whole life I've cared more about kicking monster butt than reading books. It's because of that that I constantly mess up and make so many mistakes."
Dipper gave her a smile. "So what? I've made plenty of mistakes myself. Like when I nearly killed a talking bear to prove I was manly. Or when I made clones of myself to try and create the perfect moment between me and a girl, I had a crush on. And of course there was the time I made a deal with a triangle demon and got turned into a sock puppet. My point is we all make mistakes so don't give yourself a hard time about it." Star smiled realizing Dipper was giving her the same speech she had given him earlier. "Thanks Dipper."
She then stood up. "What do say we take another look at this." Dipper liked the sound of that. "Sounds good to me." They made their way back to the library and after a few more minutes of research Star was able to translate the writing on the dagger. "It's a poem. A love poem from the Pharoh to his wife that they'd always be together." Dipper was surprised to hear this. "Seriously?" Star then read it aloud. "And though my soul departs the Earth, I count my days till my rebirth. I will wait across eternity for my love to come back to me." Dipper smiled. "This is it. Once Randy and the others get the dagger, we can use it to take down Savage." They celebrated with a high-five.
At Savage's lab, Jenny (as a robot), Mabel, Kim, and Steven had located Jenny's circuits. "It worked; the tracker led us right to them." Jenny whispered with joy. "Ok Jenny you and Mabel stay here and keep watch, Steven you're with me were getting those parts back." Kim ordered. Everyone nodded as she and Steven proceeded to attack the guards. Kim the took the circuits off the table and turned to the scientist. "Have a good evening." The team then left the lab with the circuits in hand; their mission successful.
At the mansion Danny and Randy were still stuck in the cage waiting for Ben to find a way to save them. Suddenly the alarms stopped and the boys took notice. "Looks like Ben shut it down." Danny noticed. But he was immediately proven wrong when he heard Ben (who had returned to his human form) groaning. "We have a problem. The owner just came home, you're not gonna believe who it is." Coming into the room was none other than Vandal Savage himself holding Ben by the hair with a knife on this throat threatening to cut it if he made a move. "We meet again." Savage boasted. "Oh, I'm grateful for another opportunity to kill you."
Jenny's group returned to the Waverider feeling accomplished. "I've never saved the future before." Steven noted. "Guess I can cross that of the old bucket list." "Man I wished we picked up some donuts on the way back." Mabel complained. Jenny suddenly collapsed and Kim helped her up. "Are you ok?" Jenny noticed the circuits they had just gotten back were vanishing. "When Mabel knocked my mom out, she must not have woken up, or she did, and decided not to go to the conference. Oh god." Jenny said scared out of her mind. Just then Nora walked into the ship amazed by what she had discovered. "Holy crap. Now, do you want to tell me who you are and where you're from?"
Back at the mansion Savage continued to hold Ben at death point with the later groaning in pain. "Stop struggling. I've had 4,000 years of training in every hold and pressure point known." He then turned to Danny and Randy in the cage. "But you already know that, don't you? That I'm immortal." Randy grew angry. "We're gonna kill you anyway; that's a promise." Savage just found his comment amusing. "Oh, what have I done to deserve such enmity?" Savage asked with interest. "No, let me rephrase that. What have I done to you? Perhaps you have targeted me for something I've yet to do. "Savage said as he put the pieces together. "You traveled here from some point in the future."
Randy and Danny looked at each other. "He's smarter than he looks." Danny realized. "Visitors from another time astonishing." Savage said impressed. Ben groaned. "You won't be so happy when the rest of the team shows up and knocks that smug grin off your face." Savage just smiled. "Oh, why wait?" He the took Ben's earpiece. "A communications device of some sort, I imagine." He then handed it over to the others. Please, contact your friends. I'm looking forward to seeing them again."
On the ship, Nora was looking around the ship amazed by all the future tech. "Unbelievable! Is that a tachyon manifold?" "How the hell did you find us?" Steven asked. "Do you honestly think I wouldn't have a device that could track my own tracker?" she asked angrily. Jenny then approached her equal in anger. "Do you have any idea what you've just done?" "What I've done? You're the ones who knocked me out and stole my invention." Nora retorted. "WHICH WE WOULDN'T HAVE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE IF YOU HADN'T BEEN SUCH A STUBBORN JERK." Jenny shouted.
Mabel and Steven took her to the captain quarters to cool off. "Ok buddy lets go." "Keep an eye on her Kim." Jenny requested angrily. "You need to calm down and stop yelling at your mom." Steven suggested. "Her damn stubbornness and curiosity is causing me to fade from existence how am I supposed to react?" Steven raised his hands. "Ok, ok, that's a fair point but clearly you upset because you didn't see it coming sooner." Jenny sighed. "That's not it. I'm upset because as per usual she let her love of science get in the way of her feelings." Mabel and Steven looked confused. "What do mean?" Mabel asked. "For as long as I can remember that woman has seen me as nothing but a science project rather than a daughter to love. And that same attitude is what lead me to join this mission in the first place. After decades of life on this planet she doesn't change."
Steven the put a hand on her shoulder. "That sounds ruff, but you know what, I think she does care about you." Jenny raised an eyebrow. "Maybe she wanted you to help save the world, but maybe she also saw this as an opportunity to make some new friends a chance for you to have fun." Mabel then shared her own opinion. "When my parents sent me and Dipper to Gravity falls for the summer, we thought it was their way of torturing us. But it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to us." She then pointed to Nora. "That is not a bad parent and neither is your present-day mom." Jenny smiled. "You know, maybe this trip was one of my mom's better ideas. I'm glad to have you guys as friends." Steven and Mabel smiled.
Walking back to the deck they noticed Nora was still annoyed about not getting answers. "Can someone please tell me what is going on?" "You didn't tell her anything did you?" Jenny asked concerned. Kim shook her head. "I figured we screwed up the 70s enough." Nora was surprised to hear this. Hey, w... what are you talking about? A... are you saying that you're..." "Don't say another word, don't even think it. You have to leave this ship right now" Jenny instructed.
Rip then approached them looking upset about having someone from the past on his ship. "Oh, wonderful. Another unauthorized passenger. That worked out so splendidly last time." "Don't worry Rip, she was just leaving." Steven assured him. Nora then turned to Jenny. "So have we met before?" Jenny just smiled. "In a manner of speaking yes. Enjoy your life Nora, it's gonna be great." Nora then proceeded to leave. "Not even gonna ask." said Rip. "Captain Hunter, we're getting an incoming communiqué. Mr. Cunningham on Mr. Tennyson's comm unit." "On speaker." Rip commanded.
"I'll make this quick. The owner of the house we tried to rob is Vandal Savage." Randy explained. "He's really interested in meeting the rest of the team. Please hurry." The transmission ended. "They have the dagger." Rip realized. "And Savage has them." Kim countered. Dipper and Star entered the room. "Doesn't matter we've translated the writing so we can take him down." Dipper announced. "I have the coordinates." "Let's do this." Rip said with a determined look in his eyes.
At the mansion, Savage grew impatient. "Your friends are cowards." "You're wrong, they'll be here." Danny argued. Savage threw Ben to the ground and was about to kill him. They're taking too long; they need an incentive…" Before he could proceed a blast of magic shot the knife out of his hand. Savage looked up to see Star (in her butterfly form) flying above them. "Oh, the butterfly girl." Savage said impressed. "I don't just fly pal." Star countered as she shot another blast of magic knocking Savage into the other room. "I blast things too." She then landed and helped Ben up. "You, ok?" "I've been better." Ben answered. She then turned to Danny and Randy. "You guys might want to back up." She the blasted the cage, freeing her captive teammates.
Star led her friends to meet up with the others outside the mansion. "Is everyone ok?" Dipper asked. "Don't worry, Savage is down." Star assured him. "Savage is not defeated by earthly means." Rip pointed out. "Well I hit him with a blast of magic, so, you know not that earthly." Suddenly Savages men approached the mansion and Randy stepped up. "Star and I will take Savage down you guys deal with his goons out here." The team nodded. Ben turned to Randy and Star before going their separate ways. "Give him one for me."
Star and Randy approached Savage as he recovered. He then noticed the dagger in Star's hand. "The Aman Dagger, of all the weapons I've collected across the centuries, that one is my favorite." "Let's end this." Star said as she charged at Savage. Randy and Star managed to overpower Savage with their combined fighting styles until he was pinned to the ground. "And though my soul departs the Earth..." Star recited as she was about to deliver the final blow. Unfortunately before she could, Savage grabbed her arm and was not letting it go. "Such a beautiful poem, I remember it well." he said as he turned Star's hand (and with it the dagger) towards her. "Though, as you can see, I can make the dagger do its work without it." he then proceeded to stab Star in her abdomen. "Aah!" she screamed as she collapsed.
"Star." Randy screamed. Savage got up and was about to kill her. "It was a valiant effort, but now you die." "Ninja air fist." Randy said as he summoned a fist of air to punch Savage away. He then picked up Star and left the mansion to get her some help. The rest of the team was beating down Savage's troops left and right until Randy came out holding an injured Star in his arms. "Guys, Star's hurt." Randy explained. Rip took notice and began to retreat. "Everyone back to the ship." he ordered. "Come on we can still do this." Danny argued. "Star needs medical attention now and she can only get it on the Waverider." Rip countered. "Gideon bring the ship here and prepare to take off as soon as the entire team is on the ship." The ship arrived post haste and the team immediately boarded. "Get her to the MedBay now." Rip said as the ship was taking off.
Randy placed her on a bed as Gideon analyzed her injury. Dipper arrived equally worried. "I assure you Mr. Pines were doing everything we can to save her." Rip said. "You can't let her die." Dipper said worried. "I don't intend to." Gideon then gave a prognosis. "Sharp force injury resulting in rupture of several major blood vessels. Her pressure is currently 82 over 30 and stable. I will begin by irrigating the wound and cauterizing it to prevent any further hemorrhaging."
The team gathered on the bridge, waiting for an update on Star's condition. "How is she?" Jenny asked. "Stable I think." Rip answered. "Kim told me about what happened with your mom." Jenny sighed. "You were right, I should have been more careful. Now I'm gonna fade from existence." "When will Star be back on her feet?" Steven asked. "It's unclear right now." Rip answered. "Gideon has managed to stabilize Ms. Butterfly's condition, but another time jump could aggravate her injuries." "So we're stuck in 1975?" Ben asked trying to understand the situation. "For the time being, yes." Rip answered. "Given that, can I have a moment of your time, Jenny?" Jenny looked confused but agreed to go.
The two of them soon arrived at the university. "Ok why did you bring me here?" Jenny asked. Rip smiled. "I contacted your mother and encouraged her to attend a certain conference about robotics." He then pointed to Nora as she began drawing up plans for a robot teenager. Jenny smiled knowing that she wasn't going to disappear. "You risked the timeline to save me?" "Hardly seemed fair for you to sacrifice your family in order to save mine from Savage's future." Rip answered. "One thing that time travel teaches you is that time changes, people don't." Jenny looked down. "Yeah, I've just figured that out myself." Rip gave Jenny a sympathetic look. "I have traveled countless ages into the future. We're still asking ourselves the same question: Why are we here? I believe that we're here to learn, Jenny. I believe your mother can too."
Back on the Waverider the team were deciding what to do next. "So what now?" Danny asked. "Now? Now it's up to you." Rip answered. "To do what, Rip?" Dipper asked. "Last time I checked every time we try to do anything, it all ends in disaster." Rip shook his head. "Oh, once again I must disagree with you. Thanks to your efforts, Ms. Wakeman's future technology is no longer in the hands of Vandal Savage's black market weapon designers." "But it didn't do anything to change the fate of your world." Randy pointed out. Rip gave a sad look. "No. Vandal Savage will still rise to power in the year 2166." "And your family will still die." Mabel added.
Kim stood up. "So what you're really asking is, do we want to return to 2024 and live out the rest of our lives as insignificant losers or make another play at becoming legends." Ben stood up next. "Savage has my attention." Randy followed. "After what he did to Star, he needs to be taken down." Soon the others began to agree, the mission wasn't over yet. Danny turned to Rip. "So Captain, where to next?"
