Family had only ever consisted of Father, now dead, and Agravaine, dead and a traitor. Morgana had been a sister, unbeknownst to him, but she was also lost, to sorcery. His mother, he had never known, an orphan from his first breath.

"Arthur?"

Guinevere was at the door.

"The knights are waiting. Merlin has outdone himself with the dining hall. It's going to be a lovely Yule dinner." She smiled. "He's been wondering about the extra chair. He'll be so happy."

Arthur averted his eyes. "Well," he said gruffly, "wouldn't be much of a family dinner without him, would it?"
