Welcome back again everyone! Our next Guest in the Hollow Night is the (In)famous adventure, the sorceress Lina Inverse, the main protagonist of the fantasy comedy adventure Light Novel/Anime series, The Slayers.
Based off the first six episode as well as the numerous clips I've seen, Lina is a REALLY amusing and entertaining character! Granted, she can without a doubt be a selfish character (mostly in the Anime/Manga, not the Novels), but she's a fun character and the show is worth a watch! As a result, this will be an interesting chapter to write since Slayers doesn't ALWAYS need the world-threating parts to integrate Lina into Under Night In-Birth.
As for where I'll pluck Lina from... although I haven't seen full episodes of Next and Try, I take Lina from between those two seasons. While Lina does care about her friends, there isn't a ton of Character Development for Lina outside of coming to care for her friends, especially with Gourry. So, she can work simply well here.
So how does the one who's known as the Bandit Killer, the Dragon Spooker and The Enemy of All Who Live find herself in the Hollow Night? Let's go on this new adventure then!

Vs. Wagner: "I'll admit, combing your flames with your sword is good... but compared to my fire magic, you're just second rate to a genius sorceress like myself. Hmmm... maybe I could do that, but better..."
Vs. Gordeau: "Geez, that scythe has really good range! However, it pales in comparison to my spells!"
Vs. Chaos: "You doubt my status as a genius sorceress AND question my looks!? Those two thing are things I'm proud of the most! You better take that back!"
Vs. Hilda: "Well, now that your taken care of, let's see what kind of treasure Amenesia has. It's not like you'll be needing it anyway."
Vs. Merkava: "What a creepy dragon... never seen one that walks on it's hind legs and speaks in my head before. Maybe Zel might have a good idea on what it is..."
Vs. Yuzuriha: "Okay... calm down Lina... this isn't Luna... she's not your sister... now that she's out, let's just walk away now..."
Vs. Eltnum: "How do you know about my adventures? More importantly... what do you mean I kissed Gourry!? I don't even remember doing that!?"
Vs. Akatsuki: "So you can use lighting due to this "Blitz Motor" thing, huh? Packs a shock like my Giga Bolt. On that note, I'm hungry. What to come with me for a bite?"
Vs. Lina (Mirror Match): "You trying to make a fortune off my name or something!? I am the one and only Genius Sorceress, Lina Inverse! I won't let some copycat run my name in the ground!"

Linne: "Believes me, I would want nothing more then to end this curse that plagues my soul, but I don't think any form of "White Magic" you have will be of any help..."

Wagner: "Huh... even I have to admit that you are a skilled sorceress. Not everyone can control all of the elements the way you do, but in the end, my flames overwhelm my enemy yet again."
Gordeau: "I'll give you credit, you certainly made this a tough fight for me. Your spells against my Devourer certainly made this one hell of a long range battle!"
Chaos: "Your spells are needlessly destructive and they leave you open. There's nothing smart or strategic about it. Also, you claim to be the most "beautiful" women of all time? I understand looking your best, but appearances aren't everything..."
Hikda: "Whew! You nearly burned all my hair off! Let me tell you one thing: yes, I have money, but I don't have any treasure! And NO! You're not taking my money!"
Merkava: "I find it rather amusing that you take one look at me and you label me as a fictional creature of myth. Not a monster, nor a man, but a dragon. You at least made me chuckle, little girl."
Yuzuriha: "Wow, I didn't even say much and you just started panicking like I'm gonna kill you or something. Was it something I said a moment ago?"
Eltnum: "Oh man, you have so many adventures ahead of you and your group in the long run!
Akatsuki: "It's certainly impressive that you can command a variety of elements with your control over magic. Now then, let's see if I can find a nice restaurant. You're more then welcome to join me. It's my treat."
Super Attacks
EXS Attack - Flare Arrow: Lina summons a fire bow and shoots three flaming arrows at the opponent.
Infinite Worth - Ragna Blade: Lina summons a "blade" of crackling black energy and delivers a screen reaching slash. Perform this in the air will make Lina deliver a powerful downward strike instead.
Infinite Worth EXS - Dragon Slave: Once the Flash Field connects, Lina launches her opponent into the sky and freezes them with a Freeze Arrow before she begins an incantation, creating a sphere of black magic in her hand. Upon finishing the incantation, she then fires the sphere at the the sky bound opponent. It cuts to the city skyline where a giant explosion occurs just above the buildings, barley avoiding collateral damage. The opponent then falls back to the ground afterward.
Unique Traits
Levitation: Like Merkava, Lina can hover in the air for a few seconds after jumping.
Chip Damage: While Lina's physical attacks from her sword, punches and kicks don't deal chip damage, any attack from her magic spells will deal chip damage against opponents who block.
Hilda Arcade Story Interaction
*Hilda is wandering by a new location and she feels some heat close by*
Hilda: "Phew... is it just me or is it hot all of a sudden. I don't recall the weather forecast mentioning a heatwave tonight..."
*A fireball nearly brushes by Hilda, completely alarming her*
Hilda: "What in the world!? Was that!? No, it couldn't be... there's no way that was the Crimson Knight! Right?"
*A young woman appears before her*
Lina: "Crimson Knight? Never been called that before. Certainly better than that embarrassing nickname I've been given..."
Hilda: "Oh... my mistake. I thought you were someone else. Who are you? And why did you throw a fireball at me!?"
Lina: "I'm glad you asked! My name is Lina Inverse, a beautiful and powerful sorceress from another world! I seek riches, glory and adventure! Right now, I'm here to take you down and help myself to any treasure your group on bandits have."
Hilda: "Uhhhhh..."
"Wow... I didn't expect that... so you don't use EXS and use slight of hand tricks?"
Lina: "HEY! Don't compare magic to those lame stage shows!"
Hilda: "I'm just kidding! Besides, Amnesia is not a group of bandits! We'rea group trying to liberate the Hollow Night from Night Blade and Licht Kries!"
Lina: "Well, you're causing trouble and if you formed a group, you must have some treasure you stole. Once I beat you down, I'll take your treasure and just head on back to my world."
Hilda: "Well... I'm used to people after my life, so I didn't expect you to try and take my money..."
"However! I won't let some little flat-chested brat take my money from me!"
Lina: "Oh you did NOT just go there! That does it! You're gonna get burned lady!"
Hilda: "Not if I skewer you first!"
*The scene transitions to the fight*
Lina Inverse Arcade Story
Prologue [Location: Shrine of the Protector]
*A flash of light appears out of nowhere and once the light fades, Lina Inverse stands in front of a Shrine*
Lina: "AHHHHHHHHHH!"
"What? Where in the world am I?"
"Gourry!? Zel!? Amelia!? You guys there!?"
"Huh? I could have sworn they were with me a moment ago."
*Lina then looks at a strange artifact she and her group found, a purple colored stone*
"Was it this strange treasure I picked up? A "Keystone" I think it's called? Did it warp me somewhere else?"
"Whatever this place is, it sure is a weird town. Never seen buildings that reach the size of castles before..."
"Even so, if this stone brought me here, surly there must be a way to get back home. I better hold onto this rock just in case it "decides" to bring me home."
"Well, there doesn't appear to be much magic around these parts. Either magic is foreign in these parts or the people here doesn't have a single mage. However, that doesn't rule out bandits or warriors though..."
"Anyway, it's time to get a move on! Lina Inverse's next adventure begins now!"
"..."
"I miss the others already..."
*Lina leaves the area as the 1st stage, with the first randomized opponent, loads up*
Stage 3
Vs. Seth [Location: Beneath the Overpass of Amber]
*Lina wanders though the rotary as she's trying to comprehend why people are suddenly attacking her*
Lina: "Damn it all! I haven't even done anything yet and people are already trying to attack me! If it were bandits, monsters or bad guys, I can get it at least, but these are just townspeople with strange super natural powers that isn't even magic!"
"Well, at least I'm safe for now... or that's what I would say if it weren't for the fact some creeper is stalking me! Alright buddy, you better come out or I'm throwing a fireball at your hiding place!"
*A young man appears before her, slightly impressed*
Seth: "It would appear you have good senses if you can detect my presence. I thought you were just a little girl, but as people say, appearances can be deceiving."
Lina: "Well, when you got a bunch of super powered people trying to attack you, it can do that. At least you can tell I'm not a little kid. I'm actually going to be 17 years old soon."
Seth: "17 years old... with that stature? You have my sympathies..."
Lina: "Hey, don't pity me! Besides, I bet you were going to attack me too. But before we do this, mind telling me what's going on here? Like, what powers you guys have for example?"
Seth: "So you have no clue at all? To start with, you are in the Hollow Night, a phenomenon that occurs once a month. During this night, we In-Births gather as a result to pursue our own goals. The fact you're able to fight off a few In-Births despite not being able to use EXS is commendable."
Lina: "Uh huh... EXS... In-Birth... Hollow Night... I think I get it. If that's the case, then that means I'm in a different world entirely. No wonder this place looked weird."
"On that note, of course I would do well! After all, next to my looks, I'm pretty confident about my use of magic."
Seth: "Magic? That's not something you hear about too often. Regardless, you've chosen a wrong place to come tonight. You don't look like it, but you'll be a problem for me later on if I allow you to walk away."
"Therefore, this place will become your grave."
Lina: "What are you? An assasin?"
Seth: "No I definitely can't let you walk away now that you know what I am. Say your prayers."
Lina: "Whoa! I didn't think I get that right."
"Well, I'm not just gonna stand here and let you put me in the ground! I'll have you know I've taken down countless bandits and slain dragons, so an assasin like you, EXS powers or otherwise, will just be another stepping stone for the great Lina Inverse!"
Seth: "At least I won't have to hear that irritating voice soon enough..."
Lina: "Didn't you hear a word I said!?"
*The scene transitions to the fight*
Stage 6
Vs. Wagner [Location: Cathedral of Far East]
*Lina wanders into a cathedral where she finds herself face to face with a young woman wearing a red cape*
Lina: (to herself) 'Well now, get a load of this lady here! She definitely looks like she can throw a mean fireball! However, she doesn't use magic though... I wonder?'
(to Wagner) "Hey lady, are you one of these In-Births in this Hollow Night?"
Wagner: "Why would it matter to you if I was?"
Lina: "Well, I don't know where I am, but from where I come from, I'm a very powerful sorceress! I figure since you look like you can use fire, I figure I test my mettle against you!"
Wagner: "Well, you seem confident. Unfortunately, I'm a little busy to be accepting fights from random people..."
*Wagner trails off as she notices the Keystone in Lina's possession*
"Wait a moment, what's that rock in your hand there."
Lina: "This? Me and my friends found this while we were looking for treasure. It's called a "Keystone". Whatever this is, the moment I picked it up, it transported me to this town here."
Wagner: "You just found it?"
Lina: "Yeah, I did. What do you know about it?"
Wagner: "Not much... but I have a strange feeling that two people I know personally might be involved with something like that..."
*The scene cuts to Orie at the Street of Office Buildings as she sneezes*
Orie: "Huh? Was someone... talking about me...?
*The scene then cuts to Mika at the Eastern Area: Children's Playground as she sneezes loudly*
Mika: "Huh? Oh... I hope I'm not catching a cold, yuuuu...
*The scene then cuts back to Lina and Wagner*
Lina: "Okay, so you don't know much about the Keystone. Is there something you DO know?"
Wagner: "I don't see a need to tell you anything, however I do know that you are someone I just can't let walk around. Plus, I have a bad feeling about that Keystone of yours. I'm gonna have to ask you to come with me quietly while you hand over that rock."
Lina: "So, NOW you wannna fight me? Just becaue of this stone I found? Oh well, I did want to fight you to begin with. However, if I win, you're gonna tell me what your business here is and what's happening in this place. If you win... well that's up to you."
Wagner: "WHEN I win, you're coming with me. Although, I should at least give you a fighting chance. En garde!"
Lina: "Uh... what you said!"
*The scene transitions to the fight*
Stage 9
Vs. Yuzuriha [Location: The Freeway: Lower Area]
*Lina is running through the Freeway structure as she's processing what information she got from Wagner*
Lina: (to herself) 'So this Paradox lady is trying become immortal through some weird gate thingy!? Not the first time I dealt with madmen like Rezo and Halcyform, but like hell I'm gonna let this happen!'
'Great... I think Gourry's rubbing off on me!'
*Lina then accidentally bumps into a young woman*
Lina: "Ah, hey! Watch where you're-!"
*Lina freezes upon seeing the woman look at her, causing the sorceress to freeze up*
Lina: "Ah..."
(To herself) 'Oh crap...'
Yuzuriha: "Excuse me? You're the one who bumped into me, so I should tell you to watch where your going!"
Lina: 'Crap! Crap! Crap! Crap! She l-l-looks just like... L-L-L-Luna!'
Yuzuriha: "Hey, why do you look like I'm gonna kill you? I just said you should watch where you're going?"
Lina: (To Yuzuriha) "Ulp! W-w-well... you just sort of... remind me of my... older... s-s-s-sis-sister..."
Yuzuriha: "I remind you of your sister? What kind of person was she like if you're acting like you've seen a ghost?"
Lina: "L-l-look, I'll just let you off with a w-warning and just be on my way! I need to see this Paradox lady and stop her plans!"
Yuzuriha: "Hold up! You're after Paradox? Despite not having any EXS Abilities? You're pretty confident."
"Although, considering that you're freaking our from the sight of me alone, which is ridiculous considering how cute I am, I don't think you're qualified for the task...
*Yuzuriha then spots the Keystone thatLina's holding, only it's glowing*
"Besides, that thing you're hilding is acting strange. Like the closer you get to the Gate to the Abyss, it gets more glowy."
Lina: "Huh? You're right, it is glowing. Maybe facing Paradox is the key to get back to my home..."
Yuzuriha: "So you're a foreigner, huh? Like I said, if you're going panic at the sight of me, I can't let you handle this. Besides, an In-Birth should at least resolve In-Birth issues."
Lina: "L-look, you may look like my sister, but I can handle a banshee like Paradox! S-s-so you better m-move it!"
Yuzuriha: "I was hoping I didn't have to get rough... but you leave me no other option. Don't say I didn't warn you."
Lina: (to herself) 'AHHHHH! SHE'S PULLING OUT HER SWORD LIKE LUNA'S KITCHEN KNIFE! SHE'S GONNA KILL ME!'
*The scene transitions to the fight*
Final Stage
Vs. Hilda [Location: Altar of Light and Dark]
*Lina arrives at the Gate to the Abyss, where the Keystone is glowing brighter than normal*
Lina: "So, this is that strange Gate to the Abyss thing? It definitely has a butt-load of power behind it! No wonder that Paradox lady wants to try and become immortal. Provided she doesn't turn herself inside out in the process."
"But, the Keystone is glowing like crazy... I wonder if it's because of this Gate?"
Hilda: "Well now, who do we have here? I didn't invite guests last time I recall..."
Lina: "Well, I just invited myself in, thank you very much! I assume you're Paradox, the leader of Amnesia, am I right?
(to herself) 'Amnesia? That's GOT to be the worst name for a group ever! At least Night Blade and Licht Kross sound cool and appropriate, but AMNESIA? That's so lame!'
Hilda: "Indeed I am. I am Hilda the Paradox, the glorious leader of Amnesia and soon I attain eternity!"
Lina: "Yeah... not gonna happen lady. I heard about you guys from Wagner and I'm not gonna let you become immortal."
Hilda: "!? Wagner? Erika Wagner the Crimson Knight!? Are you saying you defeated her!?"
Lina: "Yeah! After I beat, she told me what's going on, plus this Keystone thing that brought me to this place might be connected with that dumb gate!"
Hilda: "Keystone? I can't say I heard of it... but now that you mention it, that rock has a ton of power just being near the Gate... it may not be the Insulator, but it MIGHT be able to open the Gate!"
"So little girl, why don't you hand over that rock? If you do, I will let you join Amenesia. Sounds good, doesn't it?"
Lina: "No thanks lady! Besides, I have friends waiting for me back home and I wouldn't trade them to join up with a crazy psycho like you!"
Hilda: "That's quite a shame, it looked like you and I could do some serious damage together against Night Blade and Licht Kries. Oh well... the least I can do is offer you a quick and painless death."
Lina: "You're not the first super powerful threat I fought for the fate of world! I beat guys like you for breakfest! You better be ready as you're about to face the power of a genius sorceress! The one and only Lina Inverse!"
Hilda: "Sorcery? Oh, you are definitely out of your league. EXS is the one power that triumphs over EVERYTHING! Prepare to be consumed by darkness!"
Lina: "Not if I burn you first!"
*The scene transitions to the final fight*
Aftermath
[Location: Altar of Light and Dark]
*Lina stands before the Gate after Hilda's been knocked unconscious*
Lina: Hah! My magic totally defeated you in the most spectacular way possible! I haven't had a good win like that in quite a spell!"
"Now then, I should destroy this Gate, but maybe I should help myself to some treasure this witch has first."
*The Keystone begins to glow wildly at a pulsating pace*
"Um... why is the stone glowing this fast?"
*The screen turns purple as it fires a beam at the Gate, destroying it and ending the Hollow Night. With that, the Keystone's glow dies down*
"Yikes! Did? Did the Keysone do the work for me? Well, it saves on a Dragon Slave at least..."
*The Keystone activates the yellow flash that warped Lina to Kanzakai to begin with*
"Wait a minute! Isn't this the same glow from before that brought me here!?"
"Hold up! How do I turn this off!? I don't want to go to another weird place again!?"
*The screen flashes white as Lina is teleported elsewhere*
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Ending
[Location: Ancient Ruins]
*Lina teleports back to the same Ruins she was at before she got teleported*
Lina: "AHHHHHHHHHH!"
"Huh? Wait... is this... I'm back at the Ancient Ruins where I found this freaky stone!"
"Ah... home at last!"
*At that point, a young man with long blonde hair shows up*
Gourry: "Lina! You're okay!"
Lina: "Gourry! Oh man, it's good to see a friendly face after all I been through!"
Gourry: "What do you mean? Did that treasure you pick up warp you somewhere?"
Lina: "Yeah! It took me to this strange town with giant buildings and these werid people use a strange power called EXS!"
Gourry: "EXS? Where did you end up?"
Lina: "I'll explain later, but first thing's first... this Keystone is WAY too much trouble. I can't believe I'm saying this, but let's trash this thing!"
*After Lina disposes of the Keystone, it cuts to Lina eating at a restaurant with Gourry, Zelgadis and Amelia*
Gourry: "So Lina? Was it safe to throw that rock in that volcano?"
Lina: "Of course it is! That way, no one will ever go through what I did! Let me tell you, that place with the In-Births was bizarre. Even more then what we deal with!"
Gourry: "Why don't you tell us what went on in that Kanzakai place? It sounds like you had quite an adventure!"
Lina: "Well... I suppose that's a plus. I'll tell you guys! It all started when I warped in front of a weird shrine..."
*The credits roll as "Don't Interfere" plays*

With that done, Lina Inverse's adventure in the Hollow Night has reached it's end!
Lina's a pretty fun character and should I get a chance to see more of Slayers beyond the first six episodes and the countless clips, I'm all game! Give Slayers a watch or look at when you can!
Next time we enter the Hollow Night, a particular Gunslinger of REsurrection will rise within this supernatural world. See you next time!
