Welcome back everyone! Tonight's Guest in the Hollow has come a long way from the Canopy Kingdom and her name is Filia, one of the main characters of the popular Indie Fighting Game Frnachise, SkullGirls.
An interesting thing about this is that Skullgirls and Under Night In-Birth did DO something of a crossover in a way.
1. For Skullgirls, Frenach Bread drew and submitted a Skullgirls version of Yuzuriha and thus appears as a cameo in the River King Casino stage.
2. For Under Night In-Birth, one of the game's Guest Artists, Yoshihara Seiichi, made a creates character select art and single sprite art of Filia, with realistic proportions, standing before a surprised Orie on the same page.
While this might sound strange, but this art piece served as the inspiration for potentially starting this story as seeing this made me think of a couple of possibilities. That and since French Bread made both this and Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax made me think about putting Shana and Shizuo in here. So, why not give the originator of the Story the spotlight here?
While Filia is generally overshadowed by more popular characters like Peacock, Ms. Fortune and Annie of the Stars, Filia is generally the main character of the series as she's always one of the playable characters in the demo (along with Cerabella before she got replaced with Peacock) and is the game's beginner 🔰 character. She also have ties with the main villain Bloddy Marie (The titular Skullgirl) and a crime group called the Medeci Mafia, giving her a degree of significance. Even more so since she's got a parasite living in her hair named Samson, who despite his gruff and rowdy nature, does care for Filia. Filia's Origin Story in Skullgirls Mobile should clear that up along with the possibility of seeing Filia in the ongoing Skullgirls WebToon comics.
Filia (and Samson) will be yet another character will have an English VA next to Deadpool, Aero, Styx and Grave. Yes, it's true they have Japanese voices, but Skullgirls is more iconic in English in my opinion.

Intro 2: Filia runs into her starting position as she catches herself by after nearly tripping over. She then gets into her fighting stance after catching herself.
Round Loss: Samson uses his tendrels to lift Filia into an upright position as she's sitting down, facing her opponent.

Byakuya: "Um sis, I don't think I can do much with this little lady or even eat the Parasite. I can't eat hair after all... don't want to cough up hairballs..."
Byakuya (Alternate): Tsukuyomi: "It would seem that Byakuya, my sword and shield, has overcome your own sword and shield little girl. Now, you should probably refine him in the event we meet again..."
Carmine: "Well, that was boring... seriously, I was just fighting hair! The girl didn't even do much!"
Enkidu: "Listen well little girl, you shouldn't always rely on the creature living on your head. Improve yourself and become a worthy partner to him. Stand on equal footing."
Hilda: "Sorry to tell you this little girl, but my hair is long, gorgeous and wonderful in EVERY way! Yours is short, rough and disgusting in every other way! Oh, and I don't use it to attack people eitheir, so I won the moment you fought me!"
Eltnum: "I know your supposed to be the main character and all, but it's pretty sad that you're overshadowed by other characters who have more connection to the plot like Peacock and Annie, don't you think?"
Akatsuki: "Fighting with your follicles in the form of a Parasite? That is certainly an interesting fighting stlye to say the least... and certainly the most unsanitary. I do hope you wash it after every battle."
Super Attacks
EXS Attack - Gregor Samson: Samson turns into an insect like form and makes Filia charge at her opponent causing damage. The last hit will send the opponent flying if it isn't blocked. It can also be used in the air.
Infinite Worth - Fenrir Drive: An enhanced version of Filia's "Updo" Anti-Air Special. If it fully hits without being blocked, Filia will carry her opponent up into the air before Samson chomps down on the opponent and slams them into the ground.
Infinite Worth EXS - Tricobezoar: Once the Flash Field connects, Samson will form a large tentacle before grabbing the opponent and slamming the around all over the place while Filia keeps her balanced and stable. After that, Samson throws the opponent upward before curling down with Filia lowering herself into a crouching position. Samson then turns into a large figure and shoots a giant hairball out of his mouth with it slamming into the opponent. The opponent then falls back to the ground afterward.
Unique Traits
Double Jump: Like Linne and Akatsuki, Filia can do a second jump.
Air Dash: With assistance from Samson, Filia can Air Dash after a jump. She can only Air Dash forward and can only do it after a single jump. She can't Air Dash after a Double Jump.
Chip Damage: All of Filia's Special Attacks along with her EXS Attack and Infinite Worth will cause Chip Damage.
Hilda Arcade Story Interaction
*Hilia has entered a new are where she runs into a young women with a rather strange head of hair*
Hilda: "Well, hello there. Are you lost little girl?"
Filia: "In a way, yes. However, it's not like I asked to be lost to begin with."
Hilda: "Well, you better scurry off then, for as you can you I am very busy."
Filia: "Hold it! Are you the one they call Hilda?"
Hilda: "Now how would you know about that?"
Samson: "Because you and your goons have been a pain in our ass, that's how we know."
Hilda: "What in the world!? Did... did that that girl's hair just talk!?"
Filia: "Samson! I needed to see if this lady is Hilda the Paradox first!"
Samson: "Why bother!? It's obvious that this bitch is Paradox! After all, why else would she question you about it!?"
Hilda: "You know, that hair of yours is REALLY making me mad! However, if you were looking for me, well you found me."
Filia: "I'm sorry about Samson, but I really need you to stop causing trouble for the people of this city! It may not be the Canopy Kingdom, but I can't ignore people in trouble!"
Hilda: "Canopy Kingdom? Can't say I've heard of that place. If I had to take a stab in the dark, you must not be from around here..."
Filia: "You're right. One moment, we found a fragment of a dangerous artifact and the next we wound up here. While getting back home is important, stopping terrible people like you is more important!"
Hilda: "You don't even have EXS and you're not an In-Birth, so why go getting yourself killed for nothing?"
Filia: "Because it's the right thing to do!"
Samson: "Besides, the only one who's going to die here is you! I'd rather not we get involved, but I know for a fact that you really piss me the hell off!"
Hilda: "Oh! Well little girl, you've got guts, but now you and your filthy mop of hair just signed your death warrent! Prepare for a hair-cut, complete with your head!"
*The scene transitions to the fight*
Filia Arcade Story Interaction
Prologue [Location: Cafeteria of Movies]
*Filia slowly wakes up in what appears to be a cafeteria like location, wondering where she is and how she got there*
Filia: "Where... where am I? What happened?"
*Around when she woke up, she hears a voice coming from on top of her head. It is Samson, a parasite bound to Filia's hair*
Samson: "Finally, you woke up kid! Was starting to worry..."
Filia: "Samson... what happened? Where are we?"
Samson: "Hell if I know kid. One thing for sure though, this AIN'T the Canopy Kingdom."
Filia: "You know... I think you're right. I've never seen anything like this. Did it have something to do with that strange artifact we touched? The thing related to the Skull Heart?"
Samson: "You mean that fragment of the Skull Heart? Yeah, I warned you not to touch that!"
Filia: "I couldn't help it! Remember, the Skull Heart is our major lead to find out who I am and to help out Carol! However, I didn't think it would send us elsewhere though..."
Samson: "Whatever... what happened happened. The point is what we do now?"
Filia: "Well, we do need to find out where we are at and hopefully find a way back home. Hopefully we won't run into too much trouble."
Samson: "I doubt that. Considering the freaks and weirdos we fought and even teamed up with, I have this strange feeling we'll be fighting other people here."
Filia: "I'd rather not fight anyone, but you might be right. Let's just stay cautious and keep our guard up."
*Filia leaves the area as the 1st stage, with the first randomized opponent, loads up*
Stage 3
Vs. Yuzuriha [The Freeway: Lower Area]
*Filia wanders around the strange city until arriving underneath a Freeway, before she understanding that this place is not the Canopy Kingdom as Samson stated earlier*
Filia: "Well Samson, it's like you said earlier... we're not in the Canopy Kingdom. It feels like we're home, but we're not."
Samson: "Not to mention those punks we've been fighting. They can saying random shit like "In-Birth", "EXS" and "Hollow Night" as if we know these things. Bunch of freaks..."
Filia: "I think the things that they're saying is related to this place specifically and they believe we have the same abilities as they do. At least, I think that's what's happening?"
*Suddenly, Yuzuriha shows up, apparently to clear things up*
Yuzuriha: "I see, I see. You're the strange girl with the weird hair I've been hearing about."
Filia: "Huh!? Who are you and where did you come from!?"
Yuzuriha: "Well, I'm a guardian of this place. My name is Yuzuriha and you are?"
Filia: "F-Filia..."
Yuzuriha: "And that thing on your head?"
Filia: "Whatever do you mean?"
Yuzuriha: "Don't play dumb. Also, I don't think you can lie to save your life either."
Samson: "It's fine kid. I think she was eavesdropping on us from the start, so she knows."
Filia: "Samson?"
Yuzuriha: "So the hairball's Samson huh? He feels strange... he's not human, not a Void and DEFINITELY not an In-Birth either. In fact, you don't have a drop of EXS yourself either."
Filia: "Where is this place? I know for a fact this isn't the Canopy Kingdom and we never seen these In-Births either!"
Yuzuriha: "Canopy Kingdom? Why am I getting Déjà Vu from that? Especially in regards to... River King Casino...?"
"Anyway, you're in Kanzakai Japan if that makes sense. This is the Hollow Night, a phenomenon that occurs once a month. My family's job is to prevent trouble from happening here."
"Right now, I heard that a high school girl is beating up people with her hair and now that I'm seeing it, well... let's just say I'm happy my hair doesn't do that."
Samson: "So all this In-Birth and EXS stuff is tied to this Hollow Night and we wound up in the middle of it. Great... just freaking fantastic..."
Filia: "I shouldn't have touched that Skull Heart fragment to begin with..."
Samson: "Look kid, it's fine. At least we got some new intel..."
Filia: "Ms. Yuzuriha, thank you for explaining everything, but we need to get going now."
Yuzuriha: "You're welcome, but I can't just let you walk away. I can trust you not to cause trouble, but Samson on the other hand..."
Filia: "Hey, we just want to go home, so there's no need to attack us!"
Yuzuriha: "I'll only let you off after I give you a good shave and a haircut."
Samson: "NO WAY! We're not giving you two bits on that!"
Filia: "That's right! You'd be making me bald and you would really hurt Samson!"
Yuzuriha: "Who said I would be making you bald! I'm just gonna cut all that guy's tendrills off!"
Samson: "Touch me or my host and you'll be the one getting a shave and a haircut!"
Yuzuriha: "You did NOT just go there! I'm proud of my hair you creep!"
Filia: "You're the one who started it!"
Samson: "Don't come crying to us when we cut your ponytail off!"
*The scene transitions to the fight*
Stage 6
Vs. Orie [Location: Beneath the Overpass of Amber]
*Filia travels through a rotary pathway to find a way home, getting lost in the process*
Filia: "There's just no end to this... everywhere we go, another one of those In-Births just attack us..."
Samson: "If only there's a way to get out of this mess! We don't have the fragment, so we're kind of boned at the moment. We need something to get out of here, but how?"
Filia: "Well, we need more information forst, but I'm worried that we'll be attacked."
"Huh?"
*Filia sees a young woman with blue hair walking around*
Filia: "She looks like she can help... Samson? Can you keep quiet for a moment?"
Samson: "...?"
*The screen cuts to black and when it cuts back, Filia walks up to Orie wearing a hat over Samson*
Filia: "Excuse me!"
Orie: (To herself) 'Huh? A girl in the Hollow Night? An In-Birth? No, she doesn't have EXS Abilities and yet...'
(To Filia) "Yes? What is it young lady?"
Filia: "I think I'm lost and possibly in danger... I was wondering if there's a way to leave this place and who I should avoid if possible."
Orie: "You... don't know you're in the Hollow Night...? Oh dear, it's a good thing Amnesia doesn't know your here or you'd be in trouble."
Filia: "Amnesia?"
Orie: "A terrible organization led by Hilda The Paradox. I'm currently on my way to apprehend her and destroy a terrible object she's using."
"Wait a moment!? Why am I telling a civilian this!? Please, forget what I said! Anyway, you should take shelter inside your house until it blows over."
Filia: "Okay, I'll keep that in mind. Thank you."
*Before Filia can leave, Samson inadvertently moves one his tendrels, causing Orie to freak out*
Orie: "Ah! What is that!?"
*Orie instinctively stabs Samson, causing him to burst out of the hat, blowing his cover*
Samson: "OUCH! THAT FREAKING HURT!"
Orie: "What in the world!?"
Filia: "Ah crap!"
Orie: "Wha... what is that thing!? Why were you hiding that!?"
Filia: "Please calm down! Samson won't hurt anyone, we'll just leave."
Orie: "Wait a moment... talking hair with tendrels? You're the school girl with the violent hair!"
Filia: "Ulp! Y-yes... I'm sorry, but we needed information to get back home. We're not from around here, you see..."
Samson: "Kid? Why are you telling her the truth now?"
Filia: "There's no point hiding anymore..."
Orie: "So you deceived me then? Now I really should have kept my mouth shut. While I can understand that you didn't mean to walk into this night, your hair is causing such a ruckus. I must ask that you come with me."
Filia: "L-look, we REALLY need to get back home and we're can't do that if we go with you."
Orie: "We'll escort you home as soon as we trim off that awful creature on your head and once this incident is resolved."
Samson: "Sorry for blowing our cover kid, but..."
Filia: "It's fine Samson, you did a good job until she hurt you..."
"And miss? While I'm thankful for the information, we can't let you take us away!"
Orie: "No one ever wants to do things the easy way..."
*The scene transitions to the fight*
Stage 9
Vs. Byakuya [Location: Abandoned Building]
*Filia continues running around Kanzakai until she runs into a boy and a girl at a broken down building*
Filia: "Huh? A boy and a girl? Here?"
Samson: (Whispering to Filia) "Careful kid. The lady's not a problem, but the boy feels dangerous."
Filia: (Whispering to Samson) "What do you mean?"
Byakuya: "Hey sis? What do you make of this? Looks like she's whsipering to nothing..."
Tsukuyomi: "Well, I heard about this particular individual according to word of mouth I heard, so might as well see if it's true."
"Excuse me little girl?"
Filia: "Uh... yes?"
Tsukuyomi: "Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you the girl with the talking hair? I heard you just wandered into this night while causing mischief"
Samson: "That's just great... now EVERYONE knows who we are now..."
Byakuya: "The girl's hair just spoke? That's pretty cool."
Tsukuyomi: "You think talking hair is cool? Sometimes I just don't understand you little brother..."
Filia: "Brother? You two are siblings? But that means you're both In-Births!"
Tsukuyomi: "You are correct, however I can't use my EXS Abilities at this moment in time. For the time being, I must rely on my brother to help me in my goals, which involve Paradox."
Filia: "I heard this Paradox is dangerous and she's plotting to do something awful with "something", but that's about it."
Tsukuyomi: "Paradox... is insane. She's attempting to become immortal through the use of The Gate to the Abyss. I plan to put an end to it, but I need Byakuya's claws in order to do so."
Samson: "Immortality? Yup, sounds like a crazy bitch all right. Well, not as crazy as Black Dahlia, but still... crazy..."
Byakuya: "I know it's not my place to question you, but why are you telling them this? They don't have EXS Abilities."
Tsukuyomi: "It's because they have no EXS Abilities that I'm telling them this. I can tell they're not from around here, almost other worldly."
"Besides, Paradox is OUR quarry. I have no intention of letting a little girl take that from me."
Filia: "I want to believe you have a good reason for bringing your brother into this, but..."
"If we want to get home, we need to confront Paradox ourselves!"
Tsukuyomi: "Then we are at an in pass. Tell you what, if by some chance you can best Byakuya, my claws and fangs, with your Parasitic like creature, your sword and shield, then you're free to pursue Paradox."
Samson: "Claws and fangs? That must be what the creepy feeling I got from this kid is."
Byakuya: "Yeah, I like to call them Predator. You better be careful now or you'll become my next meal..."
Filia: "Ew! That's gross! You've got a strange sense of humor!"
Samson: "I don't think he's joking kid, but we're not about to let this creepy punk snack on us!"
Tsukuyomi: "You should have just walked away while you had the chance. Byakuya, make it quick and painless for them."
*The scene transitions to the fight*
Final Stage
Vs. Hilda [Location: Altar of Light and Dark]
*Filia arrives at the altar leading to the Gate to the Abyss, where she and Samson feel immense pressure coming out of the Gate itself*
Filia: "Samson! Do you feel that!? This overwhelming pressure!?"
Samson: "No kidding! This surge of powe makes the Skull Heart look tame in comparison and yet..."
"This wavelength is somehow similar... you don't think?"
Filia: "Maybe. I think destroying this thing may return us home..."
"In addition, we'll also stop whatever evil schemes this Paradox person has in mind too! We'd be killing two birds with one stone."
*Hilda then emerges from the shadows to bar Filia from destroying the gate*
Hilda: "Oh... did you honestly think I would leave the Gate to the Abyss unguarded? Don't make me laugh little girl!"
Filia: "Oh no! Is this lady Paradox?"
Samson: "Let's see here. She's wearing bizarre dress. She has a glowing red eye. Carries IMMENSE levels of cockyness. AND she's absolutely an insane psychotic bitch! Yup, I say this is the witch that's got every one of those In-Birth guys on the move!"
Hilda: "So you're the school girl with the talking hair I've been getting reports on, huh?"
"As for you, you oversized hairball. Get bent."
Filia: "Normally, I would critique Samson on his behavior, but I'm allowing it considering what you are doing is wrong!"
Hilia: "What am I doing that's so wrong? I'm only attaining immortality to liberate the Hollow Night, freeing it from Night Blade and Licht Kries. What's wrong with that?"
Samson: "You're only saying thay to justify your lust for power. I know creeps like you. You get just a small sip, you suddenly become addicted and you just want more of it till you're completely drunk on power."
Filia: "Samson's right! If there are laws being inforced within this strange place, it needs to be abided! If you want freedom, don't drag or hurt other people to do that! You can just talk with them!"
Hilda: "Hah! You really think they would listen!? They ALWAYS keep a lid on things! Now then, if you honestly think you're gonna destroy the Gate to the Abyss here, you're out of luck."
"Besides, you have no EXS Abilities, so you just lost already. I suggest you walk away and forget all about all of this."
Filia: "I will not turn a blind eye to mindless destruction! While I want to go home, stopping you is more important!"
Hilda: "Too bad, what a shame. It seems you have chosen to die. You could have lived if you just taken my advise."
Filia: "Me and Samson have fought FAR worse than you! You evil plans will be stopped here and now!"
Samson: "Hope you looked in the mirror, because you worthless face is about to be black, blue and bloody in a manner of seconds!"
Hilda: "I'm going to enjoy ripping your hair out along with you scap!"
*The scene transitions to the final fight*
Aftermath
[Location: Altar of Light and Dark]
*Hilda is on the verge of losing consciousness after Filia and Samson soundly defeated her*
Hilda: "Impossible... I lost... to this... weakling...?"
*Hilda falls unconscious*
Filia: "She was... not that threatening, was she?"
Samson: "Compared to Marie, Black Dahlia and Neferu, yeah. Paradox was just all hot air."
"Now then, the matter of the Gate..."
Filia: "Smash it. This does not need to be here."
"Let's finish it Samson!"
Samson: "Damn straight kid!"
Filia and Samson: "GREGOR SAMSON!"
*The screen turns white as Filia and Samson destroy the Gate to the Abyss, ending the Hollow Night*
Ending
[Location: Maplecrest]
*Filia wakes up around the neighborhood of Maplecrest, back home*
Filia: "Ah! This... this is...?"
Samson: "Yup! We're home kid. Home sweet home!"
Filia: "Yeah, it's good to be back after all of that."
*Filia notices the Skull Heart fragment she touched before her as it fades away*
Filia: "That was the Skull Heart fragment. It just faded away..."

All and all, SkullGirls is a fun fighting game and it's worth picking up 2nd Encore on current systems, especially since Annie, Umbrella and Black Dahlia are currently available for download with a playable, balanced version of Marie coming out in the future.
With that, I'm taking a brief Haitus from Guests in the Hollow Night to focus on some of my other fanfics for a while, but it doesn't mean this is the end. I hope that you'll all be here for when we return into the Hollow Night once more.
