This one came quicker then I expected. Filler-ish info dump, fluff, and prep for the inevitable aftermath discussion of next ch.
Sy/Psychemon's POV
As soon as consciousness returned to Psychemon he wished it didn't. He'd really underestimated what forcing himself to Digivolve into a data guzzling form like a Geo Greymon would do when he was already wounded and burning data just to keep himself from Degenerating into an In-Training. (Sweet Sleiphmon's ass, this suuuucks.) His body felt like one massive bruise, his data reserves were down to 402GBS, which was fucking appalling since he'd had a fucking TERABYTE of data in reserve before the whole shitshow with the Dragonslayers happened, and he was starving. (Note to self, don't do that unless I'm about to die.)
Granted, he WAS about to die before he did it, but he felt like that should be cemented in his mind so he didn't end up in a situation like this again... Then he fully remembered what kind of situation he'd been bitching about and his eyes shot open. (Oh fuck, too bright!) Then he immediately closed them because he didn't like how bright everything was. (Fuckin aaaay.) That of course was when his stomach rumbled, making him groan in annoyance.
Apparently he wasn't alone either since the moment he groaned a crash sounded off in the distance, immediately followed by a familiar voice. "SY!" The voice of his Mother calmed the Rookie down before he did something that would make him more sore and regretting his existence.
Then a door opened somewhere, bringing his attention away from his body and all the issues with it, revealing his Mother in her Guild uniform. The first and only thing he noticed about her was the look of concern she was sending him before his Mother practically teleported in front of him, arms wrapping around his body as she engulfed him in a hug, lilac hair tickling his snout as she did. "You're okay! You're okay. You're okay..." She desperately repeated that for a bit, making the Rookie just blink and take it in.
Slowly, he reached up and reciprocated the hug, even using his tail to wrap around her waist, despite how lethargic and sore he was feeling. The way she relaxed, as if a massive weight lifted from her shoulders, made Sy pause. (She cares, I already knew that, but this much?) Sy didn't exactly know how to put how pleased he was into words, the echoes of who he used to be weren't helping either considering those were sending him some good vibes, but he could sure as hell feel a 'little' bad about the fact he was happy she was showing how much she cared after he nearly died.
An event that not only freaked HIM out, but clearly freaked his Mom out. (Ah, shared trauma, what a family bonding moment... Yggdrasil, stop thinking fucked up thoughts and comfort ya Mom stupid!) Brushing his thoughts away, Psychemon gently rubbed circles on his Mom's back, making sure to keep the claws away so he didn't hurt her.
He wasn't sure how long the two of them stayed like that, his Mom hugging him for all he was worth while he did his best to reassure her that he was fine, but eventually she managed to get herself under control, pulling away a bit to start looking over the rest of him. "I don't exactly know how to help you recover, but your wounds healed after an hour of staying in here, and you stopped leaking data, so I assumed you were okay, but is there anything I missed? An ache anywhere? Scales that feel uncomfortable?" Ah, she was still a little wound up.
Psychemon shook his head a bit, he could do that atleast, and brought a hand back to rest on his stomach. "Fine-ish. Sore 'n hungry tho."
Of course his stomach, or whatever the fuck he had in place of guts, rumbled at even the thought of food, making his Mom practically jump away, eyes wide and flitting around the room radiating nervous energy like a beacon as she did. "FOOD! Yes, food, of course you'd be hungry you've been out for hours after all," That sounded concerning. "I can get food, I got this this!" And then she turned back to him, a determined but soft look on her face as she met his eyes. "I'll be right back, don't go anywhere!" And then before he could even say anything she turned around, the iconic look of a Digital Gate opening behind her as she all but leapt through it, the Gate closing as soon as she was gone...
...
...
...
Leaving a VERY confused Digimon behind. "The fuck?" Clearly, he had missed some shit by being unconscious...
...
...
...
(What do I do now though?) That was a question he didn't have the answer too, but would really like to have. (I can't really do anything but wait here...) Psychemon blinked, his eyes roaming the room he found himself in. (Where is here anyway?) While he was sore that didn't stop his eyes from taking in the room around him, especially now that he was actively pumping some data through his body, making him note something he hadn't noticed before.
The big thing was that he wasn't actually in a 'room' room, instead being in what looked like an enclosure... Granted, an enclosure that didn't have glass or anything that would make him think he was trapped, but still an enclosure nonetheless. The chill from the snow covered grass, the trees, full canopy, scent of fresh snow, and even slight sunlight that he was feeling on his scales, were all nearly the same as the real world, but had some differences since he knew what to feel for. (Still, this is nice.) His instincts weren't exactly pleased with this, Psychemon as a species apparently preferred humid jungles and deserts, but this was his preference, aside from an actively raining city, so his instincts could learn to suck it up.
Rolling over as much as he could, Psychemon found out that his bed was basically modeled after a mossy sort of outcrop, but was still as soft as an actual bed/mattress... (Digital fuckery.) He left it at that and kept looking around. He wasn't smart enough to figure out how this space emulated reality, and he didn't really care that much either.
Aside from the 'enclosure' he found himself in he had alot of space, practically a whole floor that was seemingly for himself. The only thing that stood out to him was the see through walls that let him see that his room was connected to an actual house, because the fact the door his Mother had come through had a hallway with stairs that led up to another floor, a pair of rooms off to the left and right, and a livingroom passed the stairs. (Kinda domestic compared to the literal snow biome, but whatever.) Psychemon was kind of tempted to go look around, especially since the ache of his body was going away now that he was up and actively channeling data into his body, but he wasn't completely better... (Well, this body isn't better.) As soon as the thought crossed his mind, Psychemon started to really consider it.
He hadn't swapped to his human form much over the week of being in Earth Bet, having only done it once when he was alone after eating at the buffet to confirm that he could, he didn't want his Mom to see him as a child and treat him like one, but the idea to do it wasn't a bad one. His 'Human' body and Digimon body were two completely different things, connected but separate enough that being in one would let the other heal...
And should theoretically be healthy enough for him to walk around without feeling like one giant bruise. (Welp, guess its Human time.) Reaching out to the tether that represented his other form, and making sure it was that and not his Digivolution trees, he didn't want to accidentally destroy what he was pretty sure was his room, Psychemon activated it.
As soon as he did his body was surrounded by a familiar Digitama. Though instead of going from Rookie to one of his three available Champion Forms, he lost his shape as a Psychemon, body and senses changing themselves to be more in line with being human. The change itself didn't even take that long, he could practically blink and it would be done, and then he was in his Human Form, laying against his mossy but soft bed. His mind also seemed a little clearer, no beast instincts running in the back of his mind, or accents super imposing themselves over his thoughts... Which made thinking easier now.
Turning and letting his feet touch the ground, Sy took stock of his current form, flexing his hand and wiggling his toes. (Everything seems to be in order.) Running his tongue across his teeth, and feeling the extra sharp canines, he nodded, stepping off the bed and standing up. His body didn't ache, and despite the fact he lost his tail he was fine, he was ready to move...
Until he got whacked over the head with new knowledge now that his body was in its early teens. (Okay, what the fuck?) Apparently hitting Champion did more then making his body age... And if he was reading all of this right then he was going to actually drool when he hit Ultimate.
The first thing his information packet showed him was how his body would develop. At the moment he was a clean 5ft tall, right on the dot, and looked like Hibiki from Devil Survivor 2. He'd known that, but what he hadn't known since he actually looked at himself after changing was that his hair was down to his shoulders and was colored white with purple highlights, eyes the same shade of purple as his Rookie form, and his clothes shared his color scheme. His hoodie was still white, but the tails were tipped purple, undershirt a soft pink, and shoes white with purple and pink at the back and front, sort of like his claws.
Thankfully his nails weren't purple, so that was a blessing atleast...
Still, he couldn't exactly blend in since his Human form was basically an anthropomorphized version of his Rookie form... (Fuck it, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.) Nodding to himself, he focused on the rest of the information he got.
Information that was a massive win in his eyes. While he was Human he apparently had access to Eden Hacker abilities like the characters in the Cyber Sleuth games. So far he had seven different skills that had the potential to increase in number and power.
Wall Crack Lv 2 meant he could remotely hack into public domains and shoddily protected servers/websites. He didn't exactly need this, he could just turn into his Rookie or Champion forms and sneak in that way, but the option was there.
Code Scan helped him decrypt encoded data like secrets, which would help if he wanted to bust into the PRT and find the skeletons in their closets... Or help his Mom do that, which seemed like a better idea and a potential bonding moment.
Copy and Paste... Which had an obvious use.
Stealth Hide, making him invisible... Though he wasn't sure what he'd need that for, but maybe he'd think of something.
Route Access would let him make/edit/delete floors or other digital areas... Which he was kind of curious about actually. There were alot of possibilities with this, and he was eager to figure out where the limit was. (I'm gonna play with this later.)
Acceleration... (I can give myself zoomies... Mom's got no idea what's coming.) He could feel his lips twitch as he thought about being a terror for no other reason that he could.
And to get his mind away from what almost happened earlier. He'd contemplate his near death some other time in the future.
Then there was the last available skill he had. Function Call Lv 1... Which... (Oh fuck.) Psychemon froze, his mind trying and failing to process what the information was telling him.
In the games Function Call Lv 1 upped the encounter rate, which was a good thing because the more you encountered a Digimon, the more data you earned, making it easier to make that Digimon so you could add it to your party or islands. (Oh, I can make islands.) He filed that thought away to focus on the point he was thinking about.
In the games that made sense...
But in reality?
In reality Function Call Lv 1 would start a process that would make data converge in a specified area, the more data the better, that would start compressing and rewriting itself in order to create a Digitama or two, dependent on how much data was in the area...
Digitama that would later on hatch into its own Digimon in a week to a month dependent on available data and proper environment. Apparently Digimon were influenced by environment more then he thought, a Poyomon wouldn't hatch in a desert, but it'd be fine if it hatched into a Punimon since they didn't exactly need foods or fluid to survive, and it was fascinating to know. (Which is actually really interesting lore to have, but not exactly useful for me right now.)
With this one skill Psychemon could start bringing more Digimon into Earth Bet... (Holy shit.) That was something he hadn't really considered, but thankfully there were limits. He'd apparently have a full 24 hour cooldown before he could do it again, would NEED to have an island or somewhere similar to The Village of Beginnings, but still, this was massive!
Also something he'd need to talk to his Mom and Narwhal about because he was NOT ready to add Digimon's brand of bullshit to the death world that was Worm without people that could help better then he did. Especially when the Digimon he would be adding would be eggs for a week minimum, babies for a month at minimum, then In-Trainings for a minimum of two months before hitting Rookie, unless he helped them or they came with Digivices... Which he had a blueprint for?
In his mind the Data Squad style Digivices were there, the ones after Bancholeomon fixed them, and he felt a spike of enthusiasm from both himself and the echoes of who he had been.
But then the echoes had a burst of alarm that sent his thoughts back and actually made him think about what he had now. (Okay, this is going to be a fucking issue.) This was not only way too much information for him to just start processing immediately after waking up, but the information itself would change the dynamic of Earth Bet so hard that he'd might as well just paint a 'I'm going to be the bane of Cauldron's existence' and walk up to Alexandria...
Then he realized he had some reassurance that he could influence what Digimon may eventually come up on Earth Bet, instead of Earth Bet influencing them. (Yggdrasil, imagine a fucking menace like Metalseadramon was born because of Leviathan.) Then his mind jumped to the Three Great Seraphs, and he was starting to reconsider. (I need to see Ophanimon lay into The Simurgh atleast once in my lifetime.) And then his stomach rumbled and his thoughts snapped back into focus. (Plans of real life Death Battles aside, I'm fucking starving.)
Sy put those thoughts aside, walking out of his room and heading towards the livingroom to find something to eat... (Actually, can I make food?) Sy paused when that thought snuck its way into his mind, images of meat growing from farms, carrots and apples and other vegetables accompanying them as he realized that yes, with Route Access he would be able to code an area to be a farm that grew the foods he'd been shown in the games and his information packet. (Well, guess I know what I'm doing till Mom comes back.)
And so he turned back around, walked back into his room, and brought up his skill menu. The menu itself was basically the same as in the Cyber Sleuth games, and he was amused that flicking it made the skills roll.
His amusement aside, Sy brought up Route Access and swiftly integrated himself into his room... Which made him blink because that seemed way too easy... (Oh, it's saturated in my data. The room is MY room, so the server doesn't see anything wrong with me plugging myself into it.) Then he had to take another moment to realize he'd made that connection faster then he would've if he was still Psychemon. (Hmm, am I actually smarter in this form, or am I just processing things faster and easier? Maybe its both?) His stomach rumbled again, demanding he shut the fuck up and feed it, and Sy was fully behind that.
Now all he'd have to do is figure out how to grow meat from the ground...
Eh, he'd figure it out.
Dragon/Tess' POV
Commandeering a crate of food probably wouldn't have been as easy as it was had she not been the co-leader of The Guild, but the fact she had it meant she could quickly bring it back to her Son so his enhanced metabolism didn't start cannibalizing his reserves. She knew he had more data then he'd started the day with, the amount she'd unintentionally absorbed from him was proof of that, but she didn't know how much he had left, and didn't want to risk anything by being coy about her identity.
It wasn't like anyone would recognize her considering she'd only shown herself to one person, and that had been at the start of the day and an hour or so after she secured her Son's safety. (Yggdrasil, where has the time gone?) Time had never really been a tangible thing to her, her existence as an A.I had made things like that abstract to her, but now that she was more solid, more real, she could fully understand the sentiments about time moving too quickly or too slowly now.
And no, it did not matter that she intellectually knew she'd only been away from her Son for 7 minutes and 38 seconds, that was 7 minutes and 38 seconds too long in her opinion!
Tess froze, a thought crossing her mind that made her feel a mixture of highly conflicting feelings. (Am I a helicopter parent?) The thought worried her for a moment, she didn't think Sy would appreciate an overbearing Mother, but then the thoughts of what had happened earlier, as well as the state she'd found her Son in flitted through her mind, making her dismiss the thought. Her Son was a smart boy, out of context knowledge and prior mental competency aside, he was intuitive and blunt enough to figure out issues and tell her about them if any popped up.
Brushing that train of thought away, Tess progressed towards her Lab, the humanoid Suit being big enough to facilitate the creation of a Gate large enough for the crate of food her drone was carrying to pass through without any issues. (Thank Yggdrasil I've practiced with this, trying to figure out how to help Sy would go far slower had I not.) Despite her current worries for her Son, Tess couldn't help but think back to said practice, a wry smile unknowingly forming on her face.
A few hours ago
Tess had no idea how Mothers managed to function when their children were injured. It had been an hour since Sy collapsed, and outside of dedicating a subroutine that would serve as a facsimile of herself to assist with the Brockton Bay Situation, her worry had not waned. Oh sure her panic, anger at the Dragonslayers, and even her fear that she would lose him had decreased, but the worry she felt hadn't abated yet.
It took her drastically remodeling the server she had created for herself and Sy to serve as a home, and creating a room that seemed to help heal him, for her more frantic emotions to level out, which was a pretty big indicator about how frantic she was.
After she'd screwed her head on straight she remembered what she'd done earlier, a curiosity burning within her as she recognized a perfect distraction being dropped into her lap. So, in order to get her mind off of her Son's incapacitated state and away from the situation in Brockton, she couldn't look at the city without thinking it was her fault that the Dragonslayers even came there, she threw herself into experimenting with her new abilities...
Which was nearly literal considering the first instance of her opening a Gate out into the real world saw her almost tumble out of the air. It turned out that she'd accidentally opened a Gate on a drone overseeing Guild HQ.
The second try had been just as memorable... But for the wrong reason.
Dragon hummed as she looked at the list in front of her, contemplating what to do. Her first test with her new ability had been met with a minor road bump... Well, 'minor' in her books, but for anyone else it would've been a massive hurdle. So now she had to figure out what to use to test her ability. (The obvious choice is to use something from my Lab, but there are quite a many options for me to choose from and too many variables to account for without sufficient data.) And there were, which was why her current dilemma was eating up her time.
Granted, she was keeping a closer eye on Brockton Bay then she would've wanted, making choices to aid in the nearly finished recovery efforts when they were needed, but this was doing a better job at keeping her mind off of that and the results of the confrontation with the Dragonslayers. (And now their name will forever be tainted by the irony of them losing to a pair of dragons.) Shaking the thought away, Dragon reached towards the list, deciding to just choose a random selection from the things connected to her network...
Only for her ears to pick up her Son sneezing, distracting her for a moment... A moment that resulted in her focus shifting and her hand moving a little too far left... And onto a completely different piece of tech on her network.
Dragon only had a moment to recognize the pull of a Gate opening and dragging her away before she was being pushed through it and towards the other side. (Oh no.)
"Aaah!" And between one moment and the next she was no longer in her server, her body appearing in the air before gravity reassessed its claim on her.
"Wha...?" Thankfully she hadn't created a Gate out of a drone again, the soft yet firm thing she'd landed on being a good indicator that she wouldn't be falling from the sky like a rock...
Then she froze, her mind processing the earlier noise. (Wait, what was that sound?) Opening her eyes, she hadn't even noticed when she'd closed them, she looked up... Into the familiar violet eyes of her bestfriend, who was giving her a look of naked surprise and confusion. (Oh dear.)
And that was when she realized what had happened. The second Gate had opened in Narwhal's office... Right from Narwhal's computer...
While the woman was using it...
So Tess had opened a Gate right into her bestfriend's office and literally fallen headfirst into her lap.
Because apparently her life was just one big cosmic joke or something.
So there they were, Dragon beyond embarrassed about how this experiment had gone, and Narwhal just staring at her as the former tried to look anywhere but at her... And then Narwhal's arms wrapped around her waist, making her look into the bright violet eyes and wide grin of her bestfriend/leader. "You know, I'm pretty sure we've joked about something like this before." And because her memory was essentially pristine thanks to her nature as an A.I, she remembered that. It had been after a nasty battle against Behemoth, and they'd lost one of their recent recruits, that led to Narwhal taking a day off to drink her sorrow away. Being the good friend that she was she stayed with her, keeping watch to ensure nothing happened to her, and they'd somehow landed on the topic of fantasies they'd wanted to experience...
And Narwhal had said she'd want a cute woman to land in her lap... (Wait a minute.) And apparently her Son was rubbing off on her because she said the first thing that popped into her mind. "Was that another obvious flirt I missed because I was obsessed with Armsmaster?"
The slow feline blink Narwhal did suddenly made Dragon aware of two big things.
Firstly, her use of past tense was definitely noticed.
Secondly, she was in the lap of an attractive woman who most likely had feelings for her... (Oh dear, I'm in danger aren't I?)
That had been... Something, to be sure, but it had passed.
Granted, she and Narwhal would be having a conversation about everything after Sy woke up, but that was neither here nor there. What mattered right now was getting her Son enough food to satisfy his massive appetite, which would no doubt be bigger after turning into a 10m tall dinosaur. (Because that's what it is, a dinosaur, not a dragon.)
She wasn't sure why she wouldn't compromise on that, it was just something her mind refused to contemplate, but that wasn't really a big issue in the grand scheme of thi...- Dragon paused, a feed of her Home Server suddenly popping up in the corner of her vision... Bringing what looked like a humanoid version of her Son to her attention, and showing him somehow manipulating the code of his room.
Tess had known about her Son's Human form, he'd told her about it after the Dragonslayers backdoor was disabled, but she hadn't seen it before... Nor had she known that he apparently became an expert programmer if what she was seeing was c...- (What in the name of Yggdrasil?!) Tess pinched herself, trying to make sure she wasn't hallucinating, then stared when she realized that no, she was not hallucinating.
It had only been 8 minutes and 28 seconds, how had her Son started a meat farm in 8 minutes and 28 seconds?! (... This is it, this is going to be my life now.)
Now if only she wasn't completely fine with that.
Letting out a sigh, she walked through the Digital Gate in front of her, following the drone carrying the food. She had no idea what would come from this talk with her Son, but she was looking forward to it.
Her Son not only did look adorable, but after the day today had turned out to be, she was long due some rest and relaxation.
Omake - Well well well, looks like I've got a chance - Narwhal's POV earlier
Natasha had thought there were a few things that were basically written in stone.
Endbringers would attack every 3 months.
The world would keep being a shithole.
And Armsmaster would manage to get with Dragon.
Apparently that last one wasn't as concrete as she thought it was if what had happened a few minutes ago was any indication.
When she'd seen Tess this morning, and God wasn't THAT something she hadn't ever expected, her mind had practically devolved in some senses. Oh sure she managed to keep her composure, but that was mostly thanks to her military background and experience being the leader of The Guild. Had she not had those experiences to rely on she'd most likely have devolved to a teenage girl seeing a hot teenager or the one teacher all girls had a fantasy over. (Because honestly, why did she have to be so beautiful?!) Natasha hadn't been prepared for this morning, and that little shit of a 'Son' she had didn't make it any better. (Though. I might need to do something good for him when this whole thing with Brockton Bay blows over.)
Natasha knew she was going to have a headache if she thought about THAT shitshow, so she just wasn't, and was instead going to focus on the good thing that had just happened.
Her first thought about seeing a Digital Gate opening from her laptop had been that Psychemon wanted something... Because he had been the only Digimon Earth Bet had so far, so her thoughts instantly going to him wasn't that much of a stretch.
But then the gorgeous form of her bestfriend had shot out of it and landed directly onto her lap, her mind practically shut down as she had a violent gay panic attack.
It REALLY didn't help that Tess was not only a crush she had been trying to get over, but absurdly blessed both up and downstairs... With extra blessings on her lower half, because good lord did Tess have a veritable bakery from the waist down.
And then there was the thing that had caught her attention.
Well, not to say Tess appearing out of a Digital Gate didn't catch her attention, while also answering some questions she'd had after the call they'd shared that morning, but that was that and this was this.
Tess had not only used past tense when speaking about her infatuation with Armsmaster, but she had realized that Natasha was flirting with her...
And that had gotten the horned woman thinking. (Tess is on the market, and she might not be looking at a certain bearded asshole anymore.) Narwhal could feel a smile making its way onto her face as she thought about that. (Well, I'm not going to miss out on an opportunity like this. And who knows, Psychemon already calls me 'Momma', maybe I can make that a little more real.)
Ardyn1997 - Ik about that, I have a SB and AO3 account too, but I haven't written or cross posted on them since that's too much work for my lazy ass.
