To refresh your mind: the story so far:

Delilah was never murdered. Chloe and Lucifer met at the Gillian Taylor case, what was in the canon season two, episode one.

Lucifer never left hell, he is dividing his time between hell and Lux.

Ella en Chloe became roommates.

Lucifer and Chloe solve a case in which a lost polonaise by Chopin was stolen.

The third case resulted in someone shooting Chloe, Lucifer protected her with his wings: that is how Chloe, Ella and Trixie found out Lucifer is the devil.

Solving the last case also gave evidence Chloe was right about Palmetto: both Graham and Paolucci took bribes. Lucifer and Chloe found Dan's 999 key at Palmetto.

Lucifer just realizes Chloe is something special: his dad listens to her prayer. Chloe prefers to think it was just coincidence….

Chapter eight: Visiting hell

"What do I not know?" Chloe asked, totally confused.

"You prayed to my dad that the urchin would not be affected by Dan's mistake."

"Yes?"

He looked at her, head tilted. "And now mr Paolucci lost part of his memory. The part that includes his colleagues, Dan. He will not talk about Dan."

"I prayed…"

"Dad seldom listens to prayers, Why did he listen to yours? You're immune to my mojo, immune to my charms." He looked at her, she looked back.

What are you, he had asked. What am I, she asked herself. She was just a human. She had never done anything extraordinary, nothing supernatural. "I prayed… I never expected anything from it. I had already forgotten," she stammered. She took a deep breath. "It must be a coincidence. Just a coincidence."

He didn't react, just took her in his arms. Although it was in the precinct and she didn't want to show any pda to her colleagues, she closed her arms around him and leaned against him. Feeling him calmed her down. "Ok," she said. "I have to go on. Shall we get a coffee first?"

"From that vending machine? No, detective. I will get a coffee for you from outside. Be back in twenty minutes."

"What did the lieutenant say?" Dan asked even before Chloe sat down. "What did Tony tell them?"

"I don't think I'm allowed to tell. But Olivia didn't mention you."

Dan shrugged and looked away. "Your mother texted me yesterday. First to invite me for diner and than to say no diner."

Chloe hesitated, realized Trixie would tell him anyway and said: "Mom and Trix and I, and Ella and father Frank and two more went to Lucifer's penthouse. He played the piano for us."

"You introduced him to your mother? Chlo', you hardly know him!" He snapped. "She will think he is serious while you should know he will drop you soon." He looked aside. Chloe also looked and noticed Ella coming to them. Dan left, muttering something Chloe couldn't understand, but it sounded angry.

"Sorry for interrupting," Ella said.

"Never mind," Chloe said. "He was just complaining I took my mother to Lucifer."

Ella smiled. "Don't listen to him." She sat down next to Chloe in Lucifer's chair and her smile disappeared. "I got a text message from father Frank. He has checked when your mother's movie Last Blood premiered."

"Thirty-three years ago," Chloe mumbled.

Ella nodded. "He had found the same. And he found it's rated NC-17, adults only. He asked me whether Lucifer was over fifty."

"What did you answer?"

Ella didn't look happy. "I wrote I never asked his age. That is not a lie. But what else can I say?"

Chloe shook her head. "I don't know. Lucifer already told him the truth, but – as everyone else – he didn't believe that."

Ella's phone beeped. "Father Frank asks whether you know his age."

"Fourteen billion years," Chloe whispered. She know she and Lucifer were different, but while she said this it struck her how different they were… But that only lasted a few seconds. Lucifer came in and smiled at her. A smile that wiped out all doubts. She smiled back and noticed he had three coffee with him.

"One for miss Lopez also," he said. He handed the right one to Ella. "I had planned to bring it to your lab, but this saves me the grand detour to the lab."

"Ten steps, Lucifer," Ella chuckled.

"You're discussing a new case?" he asked.

"No. Father Frank asked how old you are." Ella told him what she had also told Chloe.

"Just tell him the truth," Lucifer said. "Older than the universe."

Ella shook her head. "I don't want him to panic. But just curious: older than the universe? So God first created the angels before the stars and the planets?"

"And heaven before the Earthy plane."

"And the Big Guy let the Big Bang happen?"

"Well, mum and dad did together," Lucifer said. "And many million years after that Big Bang I created the stars, so: yes, I existed before the stars. And before your Big Bang. But there is no way to measure how long. Before planets orbited their suns, we didn't count a thing as years." He drank his own coffee and mused. "It took just long and it was boring. Silver City already existed, but nothing happened. No souls wandering around, for no Earth yet, so no human had died."

"Wow." Ella finished her own coffee. "I just tell father Frank it can be any age above thirty, we don't know exactly how much above thirty."

They were interrupted by an officer handing Chloe a file. "A case, detective Decker. Can you take it?"

The case was about a dead woman in the hills outside the city.

"Body was found by some nerds that were searching for a drone that went out of control," a uniformed officer reported when Chloe and Lucifer arrived at the crime scene. "No ID, no personal belongings. A young woman. There is a triangular-shaped ink stamp on her wrist."

"Hold on," Lucifer said and took a look. "I might be able to help with this. This is something someone might find at a night club, an event, a sex club. To indicate the girl is allowed to enter for free and drink for free. She is there to encourage men to come and party.

"Tempting women with free entrance? You do in the Lux also?" Chloe asked.

"As we certainly don't do and don't need in the Lux," Lucifer said. He sounded offended.

Chloe nodded. "Anything more?" she asked the officer.

"We found an abandoned vehicle registered to Uber. No sign of the driver."

Chloe took out her phone. "Uber can link license plate to the phone of the registered driver and…" She tapped and swiped. "On this map that phone is now on the corner of Crescent and Third."

"Impressive police work," Lucifer said with a smile.

The uni's found the Uber driver by the time Chloe had checked the payments that were made for that driver. The suspect was brought to the precinct to an interrogation room. Chloe laid the picture of the dead girl on the table in front of the driver: " We traced the credit card this woman used to pay you to a small bank in Nebraska. Her name's Daria Mitchell. We know you were the last one to see her alive."

"I didn't touch her!" he screamed.

"Well…" Lucifer bent over the sitting man and smiled. "Except to toss her cold, dead corpse into the bushes and run?"

"I told already." The man sounded as in panic. "I picked her up on the corner of Gower and Franklin, gave her a ride, and then she jumped out of my moving car."

He was sitting at the table in the room, Chloe was standing at the other side of the table, Lucifer was walking behind the man.

"You just left her there to die?" Lucifer asked, bending over the man's shoulder.

"By the time I pulled over and found her, she was already… I'm on new meds. I wasn't thinking straight. I just got this job. I panicked." The man was crying while telling them.

"Killer cliché," Lucifer snapped. "I panicked, closely followed by…?"

"T-Talk to the other guy!"

"What other guy?" Chloe asked.

"She used my phone to call somebody. Her boyfriend, I don't know. She wanted to go over to his place, he threatened to kill her."

Before Chloe or Lucifer could react, a message popped up on Chloe's phone. "Ella's got something," she said.

"It the poison I suspected," Ella told them. "Takes at least an hour to start working, more likely hour and a half."

"So it can't be the uber driver," Chloe concluded. "Victim called a boyfriend, can you check the phone number?"

The 'boy friend' was an ex-boy friend. He was the chief of a restaurant and threatened them with a knife when they approached, thinking they were the 'vegie's' from next door. He took them to the garden where he and his wife were preparing food. Daria had been a waitress in his restaurant. His wife became angry when she figured out he had had an affair with Daria 'again a waitress you had an affair with' and ran into the house.

"Do you have an alibi?" Chloe asked the man.

"I was…" he checked to see whether his wife was really inside "with another waitress."

"Great," Chloe said. "If the alibi is confirmed, your wife won't hear from us."

"Oh. You might also check Naomi," the chef said. "She was roomies with Daria."

Chloe nodded. "Do you have an address?"

A woman called Lily shared rooms with Daria and Naomi. "I haven't seen them in a week," she told them, opening Naomi's door for them. They found Naomi inside, on the floor, dead. Same triangular stamp, same poison.

"Shall I interrogate them, detective?" Lucifer proposed when they were back in the precinct.

They are dead, was on Chloe's tongue to say. But he could just as he had talked with the souls of Paul Rice, Jan Kopec, Aoudi…. "Can I go with you?"

On the balcony of the penthouse Lucifer took her in his arms and spread his wings. For a moment she closed her eyes when he took off, then she looked and saw LA below. Seconds later the sky turned grey and one blink of an eye later they were surrounded by a silvery fog, as he had told before they left. "A dimension outside your universe, detective," he whispered the same explanation. A few more wingbeats and the sky turned brown. Below she saw a grey and yellow dessert with a lonely dark building. With his wings steady he made a glide to the building and landed in front of a large gate. Around was sand and rocks. Fountains of orange and purple flames erupted in the distance from several spots. Suddenly at the left a cloud of smoke and dust was blown in the air and then slowly was spreading over the land. His white wings enfolded her. "Come inside," he whispered. Inside he led her to a hall where demons were writing. Ugly and scary demons, all different. He looped his arm in hers and walked to a big, fat demon sitting on a raised podium. The demon was naked, his body all quivering yellow beige rolls of flesh, his head was a gigantic ant head, insect eyes larger than a fist, protrusions around his mouth.

"My king," he greeted Lucifer. "Can I help you?"

"You can, Sulpas. I'm looking for the cells of two souls: Daria Mitchell and Naomi Flamsteed. Both died in the last two Earth days.

Sulpas raised from his chair and shouted some words Chloe didn't understand. Two demons came running to him with papers in their hands. Sulpas took the papers, searched and read. "We have no Daria Mitchell that died in that time frame, my king. Naomi Flamsteed is in the Gormosse area, Volminor, two hundred thirty-seventh level, cell ninety-seven thousand eight hundred and seven."

"Thank you, Sulpas."

Sulpas whistled. Demons came running again and took the papers with them back to wherever they came from.

"What does it mean you have no Daria Mitchell," Chloe asked Lucifer.

"That she is in heaven, detective," he explained.

He flew with her to that Volminor. "Is this a building," she asked. They were standing next to something that looked as a block of concrete, stretching to the left and the right as far as she could see, no doubt more than a thousand feet high, a door in front of them, but no windows. Ash was raining from a dark sky. An icy wind made her shiver even with his arms around her. Lightning flashed continuously among the clouds.

"It is," he said. "Almost four thousand miles long and six hundred sixty-six floors high. Nearly three billion cells…"

Inside they came in the highest hall she had ever seen, where he took her in his arms again and flew up, passing endless balconies until he landed on one of them. "Floor two hundred thirty-seven," he said. There were no signs, nothing to indicate how high they are, but she trusted his knowledge. Three corridors went deeper in the building. He pointed at one of them. It was almost dark, just miles of walls, doors and dark corners where eyes looked at them. First few times she stopped and looked, but then didn't see anything in such a corner.

"Only special effects, detective," Lucifer said, holding her hand.

After what felt as hours he opened a door. She heard screams and sobbing, but only saw fog and dim bundles of light.

"Naghelk?"

"My king," a voice from aside whispered.

"Stop the loop."

"Yes, my king."

The light turned bright and steady. The cell was empty, gray walls and a single soul in the middle. Chloe recognized a younger version of Naomi Flamsteed. The woman turned to them, tears dripping from her eyes.

"What is her loop?" Lucifer asked the demon.

"When Naomi was younger she bullied some smaller children. One little girl she squeezed the throat until she passed out. Naomi just was beaten by that girl's father when he found out."

Lucifer nodded and addressed the woman. "Naomi."

The woman now stared in his eyes.

"What happened during your last day?"

Lily had invited Naomi and Daria to come with her to a 'hot' party, but it had turned out to be a sex club where she and Daria were supposed to entertain a man could Yuri. Naomi and Daria had tried to leave but Lily and Yuri had forced them to drink something 'to loosen up' and soon after that she had felt sick. She had gone home, back in her room all went black and then she woke up here.

"Lily? Your roommate?" Chloe asked.

"Yes, Lily," Naomi whispered. "She said she would help us with LA. Yuri said he payed Lily ten grand for us. He called her Chrystal, not Lily."

She didn't know Yuri, but he had given her his cell phone number.

"It's not fair," Chloe said as soon as they were back on Earth. "Naomi was mean, but she was young."

Lucifer nodded.

"Do you enjoy that she is tortured?" She avoided looking at him.

"No, detective. It is a job and a job I hate."

"But she is in hell."

"My dad made the rules. Really I have no influence on who goes to hell."

She looked in his eyes and noticed the pain. In all stories she heard he enlisted souls. Not him. Not her Lucifer. "But why?"

He sighed. "Dad never explains."

Chloe embraced him. "It is just too much. Naomi might deserve some punishment, but…"

"But not for billions of years," he agreed. "I have shouted at my dad, yelled, cursed. Nothing changed."

Chloe slowly nodded. "We should concentrate on the case."

"Yes."

"Dear innocent I haven't seen them for a week-Lily first tried to sell them and then poisoned them." Chloe frowned. "That is a woman I hope will sit in one of those cells for eternity."

"After she dies, detective. Let's first go and arrest her," Lucifer proposed.

Chloe gave it a thought and then shook her head. "We have no evidence against Lily, nothing for which I can ask a search-warrant."

"We have Naomi's testimony."

She nodded. "But we can't use that in court. Let's first take a look at this Yuri. He might say something about Lily."

Chloe searched for the phone number, found Yuri's family name and a home address. In the meanwhile Ella traced the phone for her. They combined the facts and Ella frowned. "That phone is steady on one single place for thirty hours already, but that is not even close to his home."

"What is he doing there?" Chloe asked.

Chloe and Ella stared at the address on the computer screen and came with a few reasons he might be that long from home.

"We can speculate," Lucifer said. "But we better go there and take a look."

Chloe grabbed her car keys and nodded.

The neighborhood were Yuri's phone was, was more or less a deprived area. Tracing a phone is not really accurate. Ella could give them roughly a square mile where the phone might be, but Chloe asked Ella to search for Yuri's license plate number. "It's a silver-grey Mercedes," Ella added after she told them the number.

They looked left, right, back. It was Chloe that pointed at a parked car. "Silver-grey Mercedes."

"And the right number," Lucifer said. "Someone is sitting in that car. For thirty hours?"

They walked closer. The man in the car didn't move. Chloe opened the door. The man fell out and lay motionless on the ground. She checked his pulse and his breath. "Dead," she said. She took a better look. "Might be the same poisson."

"Should we interrogate his soul? I can do it alone."

Chloe gave it a thought. "We need evidence from this Earthy plane as you call it." She looked in the car and saw Yuri's mobile in the handsfree phone kit. "Can you unlock that?"

Of course he could and within five minutes she could show him a picture. "Yuri, Naomi, Daria and some blond…" He frowned and took a second look. "Lily with a wig."

"I didn't see them in a week-Lily, taken two days ago, the night they were poisoned. Enough to ask for a search warrant."

They caught Lily by surprise. They found the poison simply on the kitchen's countertop and did arrest Lily.

"It looks as if I'm saved," Dan said next morning in the precinct. "They say Tony lost his memory." Chloe just arrived at her desk. Lucifer trailed behind being on the phone with Maze.

"Who is they?" Chloe asked.

"Everybody." Dan made a gesture around. "I could have kept that surfboard."

"How can you say that? That's no way to raise our daughter."

He looked almost angry. "I wouldn't tell her of course. I'm not like that lunatic who makes her believe he is the devil."

Of course he was talking about Lucifer, but she decided not to react, instead she turned her back at Dan and sat down at her desk. She expected him to go back to his own desk, but he didn't. "I have a case," he said. "Well, me and Ray Solder." He gestured at detective Ray Solder who was sitting a few desks away.

"Yes?" Chloe asked.

"I asked the lieutenant for some help and she said you're available."

Chloe turned. "Help?"

"Listen. Ray and I have thirteen suspects, more or less suspects and we can use some help to interview them all."

Detective Ray Solder has raised from his chair and was now coming to them while from the other side Lucifer was also approaching.

"And two more, so fifteen suspects," Ray said.

"What about fifteen suspects?" Lucifer asked.

Dan gave him a grim look, but Ray answered: "The people we need to check for the murder of Wesley Cabot."

"Wesley Cabot?" Lucifer opened his eyes wide. "Star of the Body Bags movies?"

"The same," Ray said with a sigh.

"Eighth-degree black belt," Lucifer continued.

"That didn't safe him," Ray said. He shook his head and looked at Chloe.

"You know him?" Chloe asked Lucifer.

"Absolute icon in the action genre," Lucifer said.

"It's just a bunch of people pretending to punch each other," Chloe said.

"It's much more than that, Chlo'," Dan agreed with Lucifer. "It's a chance to escape your reality for a moment. Some people need that. I watch them all Body Bag one up to six."

"So did I," Lucifer said. "We need to revenge Wesley. But I know who did it."

"Oh," both Chloe and Ray said. "Who?"

"The dreaded ninja Ozaki, from Body Bags six: Tokyo Fire. I mean, who else would get the jump on Wesley Cabot?" Lucifer said.

"Or Sigurd Bjarneson, World's strongest man in Body Bag three," Dan said. "He lifted Wesley with one finger."

"Damned," Lucifer said and nodded. "I overlooked him."

"Boys, this is serious," Chloe said.

"But Body Bag six had the best catch phrase," Dan said.

Lucifer laughed, pointed with both index fingers at Dan and simultaneously they said: "Not on my watch."

"You're oddly adorable," Chloe said. "Acting as old buddies. But what help can we give?"

Both Lucifer and Dan looked a bit embarrassed. It was Ray who saved them. "A car left Wesleys' dojo just after the murder. We know part of the number plate and have thirteen potential matches. If you check half of these suspects, than Dan and I do the other half. Do they know Wesley. Do they have a motive. Where were they at seven this morning. I have a copy of the case file for you."

Ray had given them seven addresses and names to check. Lucifer was driving, while Chloe read through the case file. After the third address she said. "I would expect Cabot to earn a lot with that Body Bag franchise."

"He must do," Lucifer said. "It is still popular."

Chloe studied the pictures of the crime scene. "If this is his dojo, it doesn't look that way, cheap and lacking maintenance."

"Strange." While driving Lucifer glanced at some of the pictures. "Can't explain."

Chloe gave Dan a call. "His financial situation?" Dan asked. "According his contract, he should get ten percent of all merchandize."

"Where does that money go?" Chloe asked.

"I have no idea. I will ask his manager," Dan promised.

The first six addresses took time, for neither of them was at home, but none knew Wesley and none had been near his dojo. "Number seven is Jamie Lee Adrienne."

"The playmate?" Lucifer asked.

"Or only the same name." Chloe used her phone to browse the city administration. "Same address, so you're lucky."

"I am lucky?"

"You're going to see a playmate."

"I'm sitting next to a woman that is more beautiful than all playmates together."

"Hard to believe," she said but smiled.

"I never lie." He took her hand and kissed her knuckles.

"She is his ex-wife," Chloe continued reading from the city administration files through her phone. "Now married with a Kimo Van Zandt."

"What? The Weaponizer? He once acted in the Body Bag movies, but he and Wesley now hate each other. He had his own movies: Weaponizer one to four, more successful than the last Body Bag movies."

Jamie Adrienne was at home. "I can't believe Wesley's really gone," was her reaction.

"When was the last time you saw Mr. Cabot?" Chloe asked.

Um... a few weeks ago," Jamie said. "Maybe."

Jamie looked just slightly nervous and Chloe decided to bluff. "Interesting. Then can you explain why a witness said that they saw you speeding away from Wesley's dojo this morning?"

The woman swallowed. "I… Okay, yeah. I was at the dojo this morning. But it's not what you think. I went because of this..."

She took out her phone. "This is a voice mail of Wesley."

'My life is destroyed. And it all started with Body Bags four. Call me back.' they heard.

"What started with Body Bags four?" Chloe asked.

"I have no idea. That's why I went to go see see Wesley. But he was already dead and… I panicked and then I ran…"

"Where were you at 7:00 a.m. this morning?" Chloe asked.

"With Raphael. My Pilates instructor."

"And how does the Weaponizer feel about all this?" Lucifer asked. "How did your current husband feel about you visiting your ex?"

Jamie shook her head. "God only knows what Kimo would've done if he knew I went to see him."

"Where was Kimo this morning?" Chloe asked.

"Uh, at ActionCon in Reno. Signing autographs."

"Really?" Chloe asked. "Should I believe that?"

"Why not, detective," Lucifer asked. "The Weaponizer is still popular."

"Because my mother goes to the ActionCon each year," Chloe said. "Also to sign autographs. And that convention is in August."

Jamie just looked at her, opened and closed her mouth a few times, but didn't speak.

"Jamie?" Lucifer whispered and stepped closer to her. "What do you desire. What is your dream?"

"I wish Wesley had never found out," Jamie whispered. "It was his own fault. He should have been satisfied with what he had."

"What found out?"

Jamie still stared in Lucifer's eyes. "That Ryan and I took his money."

"Ryan?" Chloe asked. "You talking about Ryan Goldberg?"

"Yes." Jamie blinked her eyes and stepped back. "No. No. I didn't do it. It was all Ryan's idea."

"What was all Ryan's idea?" Chloe asked.

"He did it. I didn't want it. He killed Wesley when Wesley found out."

For much less than a second Lucifer's eyes flashed red, but it was enough to let Jamie scream. "What did Wesley find out?''

"Ryan had told Wesley and Kimo they only got one percent of the merchandize. But they get ten. Ryan and I keep the other nine percent. Wesley found out."

"And he told Ryan?"

"No. No." Jamie was sobbing and shivering. "He told me and I warned Ryan. And he was going to tell Kimo, but Kimo is in Reno."

"Well, he isn't," Chloe. She looked at Lucifer. "But Dan is going to see their manager, Ryan." She took her phone and called Dan. It rang several times before it went to voice mail.

"He doesn't pick up his phone," Chloe said. Again it rang for some time. She called again and this time it went to voice mail immediately.

"Did Dan now power down his phone?" Lucifer asked.

Chloe did feel her heart beating. She shook her head. "Something is wrong."
