Secrets Revealed.
Back on Azeroth, Arthas, Nova and Lena were waiting for someone. Uther was currently speaking to the king about their findings, which were troubling news. Nova was all but certain those horrific creatures she faced where the same ones she encountered on her first mission with Lena, and if they were indeed the same monsters, then all life on the planet could be in grave danger. With this revelation, they knew they needed help, so they sent words to the jedi council and they agreed to send one of their most talented knights to help them, one Arthas knew really well. Nova was keeping herself busy by making sure her rifle was in good shape, and Lena was simply relaxing, but the wait was long.
Nova finally grew annoyed by the wait "Arthas, we've been waiting here for hours. Is your friend coming or not?".
"Patience Nova, Jaina normally runs a little late" Arthas assured. As if on cue, they heard loud noises nearby. They hurried over to check it out and saw an large Ogre towering over a woman, looking to kill her.
Nova held up her rifle "We must help her!".
Arthas stopped her "Lower your weapon, Jaina can take care of herself".
His words would soon be proven true. Jaina dodged around the ogre's clumsy blows like an graceful dancer, taking advantage of her smaller size and the ogre's large size. The ogre was growing frustrated and tried once again to crush Jaina with it's club, only to be easily dodged once again, and now Jaina had him right where she wanted him. She reached out with the force, and pulled large amount of water from the nearby river. The water hit the ogre, forcing him in to the water and caused him to be washed away down stream.
"Ladies, meet Miss Jaina Proudmoore, Padawan of one of the wisest jedi masters in our order, and one of the most talented jedi consular in the order. Looks like you haven't lost your touch. It's good to see you again, Jaina" Arthas said.
Jaina smiled at him "You too, Arthas. It's been to long since we last met".
"Yes, it has" Arthas said before noticing the knowing smiles Nova and Lena were giving them making him clear his throat "These are November Terra special agent of the republic and her pilot Lena Oxton. They've been helping us a great deal on our previous missions".
Jaina bows to them "It's a pleasure to meet you both".
"You're good girl, took down that ogre without even using your lightsaber" Nova said, clearly impressed.
"Thanks, I've never liked having to strike someone down with my lightsaber. I prefer a less lethal solution to my problems" Jaina said, she was clearly a strong believer in that jedi are supposed to preserve life.
Lena gave a respectful bow "It's an honor to finally meet you, Jaina. Arthas spoke highly of you, and it's easy to see why".
Jaina gave her an impressed look "It's an honor to meet you too, Lena. Your greeting felt like one from another jedi".
Lena let out a small gasp "Oh, well when you spend so much time around jedi you learn to be more polite".
Nova noticed Lena's clear attempt to cover up some kind of blunder. She was beginning to have a feeling that her lover had been keeping some kind of secret from her. But there would be time for discussing that later, right now they had more pressing matters for them to attend to. They began their travels to nearby villiges, explaining the situation to Jaina along the way.
"Corpses coming back to life as mindless monsters?" Jaina asked.
"Yeah, about a year ago me and Lena discovered an experiment that had gone horribly wrong, turning people in to soulless monsters... Had a run in with one last night, but this one was different" Nova answered.
"How?" Jaina asked, wanting to know as much as she could.
Nova had a grim look "This one was much bigger and stronger... But it looked like it had ben sown together from different corpses, creating a horrific abomination of nature. I've never seen anything so horrific before. Whoever is doing this have no respect for the dead".
Jaina looked disgusted "Who could do something so horrific?".
"Heartless monsters who sees even the dead as nothing more than tools for their sick desires" Arthas answered in an angered tone. These were his people that were being experimented on and he wasn't going to allow whoever was doing this to get away with it.
Jaina noticed how her secret lover's attitude had changed "Are you ok, Arthas?".
"Sorry, I'll be fine... This situation is getting to me, we need to stop whoever is doing this as soon as possible" Arthas answered.
"Yes, whoever is doing this needs to be stopped before more people die" Jaina agreed.
They traveled for a while until they finally reached a nearby villige... they soon heard the sounds of blaster fire and rushed towards the sound. When they arrived, several soldiers were firing at several walking corpses. The undead villagers snarled like rabid animals as they ran towards the soldiers, ignoring any hits to their bodies as they tackled a soldier down and tore in to his flesh. His comrades tried to shoot them off, but only managed to make the undead turn their attentions at them.
Luckily, Arthas used force speed to run up and struck down the undead with his lightsaber. More undead ran at him and he quickly struck several of them down. On tried to leap at him from above, but he used the force to slam it in to the ground. Nova aimed her rifle and shot several undead in the head, which proved to be the best way of killing them. Picking up on what her lover was doing, Lena aimed her blaster and with careful aim, she scored a few head shots of her own. But some undead got closer, so Nova pulled out her vibro knife and stabbed one in the head before kicking another away and jumps back to gain some distance so she could shoot them... but then she noticed something.
"Lena! Look out!" She shouted as an Undead was running at Lena from behind.
Reacting amazingly fast and with inhuman speed, Lena performed back flip, leaping over the zombie and scoring a head shot while still in mid air. Nova had wide eyes, Lena was a skilled pilot but she's never shown this level of skill in ground combat, that's why Nova was secretly against Lena joining them on the ground... how long has she been able to fight like that? And how could she move so quickly?
Jaina used the force to lift several sharp objects and sent them flying at the undead, impaling their bodies and stopping their rampage. The battle was over for now, but both jedi could sense all the death and darkness around them. Something trully horrifying had happened here.
"Prince Arthas!" One of the soldiers said in relief.
"What happened here soldier?" Arthas asked.
"I'm not sure my lord, this whole villige has gone mad, we did our best to protect the people but there was just so many" The soldier said, clearly shaken up by the whole ordeal.
"Tend to your wounded and help the survivors. We'll investigate things from here" Arthas ordered.
The soldier nodded and went to mobilize his remaining troops. Arthas, Jaina, Nova and Lena began looking around the villige which looked like a ghost town now. Lena entered a house, her blaster drawn just in case. She opened a door to her room and aimed her blaster... only to gasp when she saw... the dead body of a child. Even in death, the child held on to her toy.
Lena placed her hand on the toy and closed her eyes... And memory flashes flew through her mind. She saw the little girl shaking and holding her toy... then her mother entered the room... but her mother looked sickly her eyes were glowing green... she looked at her child and then...
"Hey!" Lena almost jumped out of her skin when she felt Nova's hand on her shoulder "Don't just zone of like that, there could still be danger around".
"Sorry..." Lena said as she looked at the dead child with sad eyes.
"Are you alright?" Nova asked in concern.
Lena stands up "Poor child... she was killed by her own mother...".
"How did you know that?" Nova asked.
Lena shook her head "We got a job to do".
She walked away and Nova looked both worried and suspicious. She looked at the dead girl and memories of her own childhood flashed through her mind for a moment. She left the house, not wanting to stay there for a moment longer. But it was clear now that Lena was hiding something from her, and she had no idea what it was. She always saw Lena as the happy easy going girl who could keep her spirit high even in the worst situations. But something was troubling her, and Nova wanted to know the truth.
Meanwhile, Arthas and Jaina had also been looking around, even having to slay some more undead during their search. The darkness was strong here, yet it felt different from the darkness a sith would normally give off. A Sith often felt cold as ice or like a raging fire of hate, but this... felt more empty, like death itself was consuming the land.
"Do you have any idea what all this could be?" Arthas asked as he looked at the sad sight of a dead woman.
"I can't be sure yet, but the force feels... wrong here, like instead of being a part of life... it's consuming life..." Jaina answered.
"Yeah, I can feel it too... It's almost as if the force doesn't even exist here... it feels... empty, like a hollow shell of what it once was" Arthas said, doing his best not to let the emptiness consume him.
"You were right, Arthas. Whoever is doing this... they're not natural, but a twisted and infected wound in the force. We need to stop it before it consumes the planet" Jaina said
"We will stop them... No matter what" Arthas promised.
Later that night, Lena entered her ship. Nova was still looking around and would be back later, while Arthas and Jaina were studying their corpses to see what they could learn from them, maybe even what caused them to turn in to those monsters. Lena sits down for a while, with her eyes closed. This mission had become more than she expected, and she wasn't sure if she could handle much more. She's been letting her emotions get out of hand, and she knew she shouldn't have joined the others in ground combat... now her secret was all but out...
She opened her eyes and opened a secret hatch in the side of her ship and pulled out a small box. She placed the box on the table and opened it... her eyes grew sad as she looked at the memory of a past life... a life she had tried so hard to leave behind... but now she wasn't sure if she could keep it hidden from Nova for much longer... Nova is smart and she knows something is wrong and it would only be a matter of time before she figures it out herself... So the question is: Should Lena wait until Nova finds out what's going on? Or should she tell her lover about her deepest secret herself?
Lena rubs her face as she looked inside the box. She didn't know what to do.
Inside the box... was a Lightsaber.
