To see his daughter again…That's what William said to Alison when he demanded he let him go and have his break. Yet he knew that, in truth, his words meant nothing. He never had any time for Elizabeth, even during the brief spare moments during which Fazbear Inc did not bother Will in any way; he couldn't force himself to talk to her for long after that Christmas. At least back then, they could pretend like their lives could get better, but the horror that happened to Mike made the wedge between William and Elizabeth even bigger. She was right to aid her brother. She had more reason to trust him than someone who murdered on purpose. William wondered if he would ever have the strength to admit it outright. He didn't even take her to Mike's burial…She was traumatized enough already; there was no need to show her the skin that Ennard left behind…Perhaps the soul of Mike was still inside this amalgamation, but William was simply too tired to think about it or anything else.
Every time he came home, he saw Elizabeth slowly turning a shell of her own self. She became pale, her eyes grew lifeless, and her cheery mannerisms faded away, replaced by pained silence and quiet acceptance. She would get on with her life, mostly staying in her room, drawing, or playing with her toys. Today was very similar. After saying a faint 'hello' to her father, who only returned in the morning and was about to make tea for both of them, the suggestion at which she just nodded in silence. All William had to hope for now was that the process of Fazbear Inc.'s downfall was inevitable no matter what Alison did, but even if so, he might want to take his former workers down with him…He will have to wait and see yet again.
"Come here, I've made the tea," William called his daughter over. The girl stood up and made her move towards the table. Even seeing her walk was painful, as William always got reminded of how she used to run every time she got an opportunity to spend time with her family, an invigorating expression of energy that was absent now. She simply sat down, without even looking at Will, and grabbed the cup with her weakened hand. There was something different this time, something that made William's heart skip a beat the moment he saw it. A small, dry stain of red on her white hand.
"Wait…" He spoke up, making the girl finally look up at him. "Show me your hand."
"W…Why, daddy?" She asked shyly.
"Please," Will responded firmly. Elizabeth took a deep breath and surrendered, showing him her hand. There were two scars, confirming William's worst suspicions.
"Where did you get those?" He tried to sound calm despite feeling his heart pounding in his chest. He didn't even notice before…It went to show just how little attention he actually paid.
"I…" She stuttered. "I had a really bad dream once about you, Mommy, Chris, Mike…You all were there, and it was horrible. You were hurt and couldn't do anything, you…You were with a monster who hunted you because he wanted to kill us, and it wouldn't stop…" The girl sniffed, although there were no tears in her eyes. "I woke up in the middle of the night, but I was so scared, and you weren't home…I wanted…I had a thought that maybe you will be better off alone, you try to protect us, but…I don't know."
"Did you…" Will's voice trembled. "Did you make those cuts yourself?" The girl closed her eyes and nodded shamefully.
"I stopped when I thought about how hurt you'd be to see me die…It was a stupid idea." She looked away. "I knew I was selfish, and what I did, it…It was wrong." Will could hear the tired pain in Elizabeth's voice; all that she'd gone through simply drained her of life and energy, no joy, no tears, just complacency. The man closed his eyes, holding back his own tears as he realized that this was his own fault. He should've been with her.
"I…I'm sorry that I failed you…" His hands shook, and two small tears fell from his eyes. Was this battle even worth fighting anymore? Perhaps it was too late for them.
"Please, don't cry, daddy." The girl pleaded. "I didn't die, right? I realized I was wrong for trying to do it…I'm sorry, I just wanted to…To see them again." Her voice grew quieter with every word she spoke. "Do…Do you think they miss us, Daddy? Do you think they want us to come sooner?"
"I…" William paused, wishing he had an honest answer. "I know that they would want us to live." He said as more tears fell from his face. "I…I want you to live. I need you to! All I want is for you to have a future…"
"But daddy…What's the point of the future if there's nothing good coming out of it? It just keeps getting worse and worse; it's lonely and dark and horrible…I know it's the same for you." Elizabeth's voice sounded absolutely hopeless; only horrors beyond most people's comprehension could drive a child to this.
"Please, Elizabeth, all I'm asking of you is that you live…Just wait a little longer, and I promise…"
"But you promised me before." The girl shook her head. "You always promise that it will get better, again and again…But it just never does. It only gets worse. And…I'm sorry, Daddy, but you've lied to me before." She said with a pained voice. "You don't believe that it will get better…Do you?"
By this point, William felt completely cornered. His little daughter was right about everything: right about him lying, about constantly giving promises that he cannot fulfill, about failing her again and again, further pushing her towards inevitable desperation and hopelessness.
No words of forgiveness could undo this pain.
…
Henry was ready.
It was a difficult, even agonizing, decision to make, but he had to take matters into his own hands. He stood aside for too long, seeing Lockjaw as his only opportunity to gain some justice for Liam's death, to unleash his wrath upon Fazbear Inc. and Alison. However, after hearing the tale Alison and William told, after talking to his son, who was trapped in an animatronic metal suit for more than two years, Henry had to make a choice.
His choice was to bring down the murderer and free Liam, even if it meant allying with the monster that was Alison. Now, all he had to do was to report to Lockjaw and bring their scheme to reality while Alison prepared a trap. Surprisingly enough, Henry didn't find Lockjaw at his usual hiding place. It even made him worry for a while until he got the call. A call from a number that, as it turned out, belonged to Lynda Takaliken, the woman he met some months ago and Gron's former wife. She called him into her house and gave him her address, saying that Lockjaw awaited him there. Henry wasn't surprised. It was clear that the animatronic retained some sentiment for this woman, and knowing that she was his wife made perfect sense. Perhaps he finally decided to tell her the whole truth? It certainly seemed that way.
When Henry arrived at the mentioned address, they already expected him. Lynda was at the door, watching him cautiously.
"Lynda." The night guard said calmly.
"So that's how you look without a mask…Nice to meet you properly, Henry." She said, with seeming warmth, but something about it seemed very suspicious to Henry; it almost sounded fake…Nevertheless, he decided to let it slide. There were far more important matters to focus on. Perhaps, under other circumstances, he would've enjoyed getting to know Lynda better, but if she was aiding her son's murderer…Henry didn't want to waste any time.
"So, is Lockjaw here?"
"Yes." The woman nodded. "He's in the garage and has been waiting to meet you for a while now. Come on."
"Good. He'll be glad to know that there is a lot I've discovered."
"Have you been down there in the facility?" Lynda asked with curiosity.
"Yes…"
"G…Lockjaw told me about it and all the gross horrors he saw down there. Is it true?"
"Yes. It is that and much worse." Henry spoke coldly as the two of them walked through the garage door, ending up in a small room with him sitting by the opposite wall.
"Welcome back," Lockjaw said; Henry could hear the undertone of gleeful anticipation in the animatronic's voice…He looked away from his rotting eyes, trying not to show his anger. He was looking into the eyes of a monster who murdered his son in his deranged obsession to destroy Fazbear Inc and get his revenge. Henry knew that he was pursuing the same goal, but he never killed innocent children…He wasn't a monster. He simply had no other choice. "Sorry for not alerting you that I moved places sooner. It has been some time since we met last time. Lynda told me that when she called you, you said that you've made huge strides. I'm waiting."
"Yes, strides…" Henry took a deep breath; he needed to sound convincing. "It was just like you predicted…I tried to sneak up on William and Alison at every opportunity, trying to get as much information as I could until they got me…Those bastards." At least his anger and hatred towards those two were genuine. Henry didn't have to pretend. "They dragged me down to their hellish facility and forced me to watch the fucking madness that was going on down there, and then…" Henry stuttered in fear, hearing his heartbeat grow quicker. What if Lockjaw realized something? What if he already knew and was simply toying with him? There was much he could expect from a deranged lunatic like him.
"They forced to sign the contract, didn't they?"
"Yes…I pretend to fear for my life, and I guess they found that to be enough to keep me in check."
"Alison has always been overconfident," Lockjaw noted. "But he is also quite shrewd."
"He suspects I was working for you…So I guess it won't come entirely as a surprise to him if I find you here." Henry realized that all of this sounded highly improbable and awfully convenient, yet Lockjaw didn't question any of it. Did he accept this version, or was he already picking it for details in his mind? Henry was too horrified to imagine. "I guess it came quicker than expected, but if you want to try out your scheme, now is the time."
"I do."
"All as planned, then?"
"Mostly…" Lockjaw looked towards his wife.
"I am coming, too." The woman said firmly, making Henry raise an eyebrow and clench his teeth.
"But…Why?"
"Because I've spent too much damn time trying to stop those monsters, and I am not turning back now." No, this was all wrong…She didn't harm his son or any children at all. She was innocent! Henry was more than willing to make Lockjaw suffer and toss him to the wolves, but Lynda's presence…Complicated some matters, to say the least. Alison would love to have both of them in his custody, but she didn't do anything to earn this pain. Once again, Henry found himself in doubt, desperately trying to keep his hands from shaking, a gesture that the maniac in front of him noticed.
"You doubt us?" Lockjaw wondered.
"No, of course not…Just hope that she doesn't get hurt. I'll try to get a firearm for her at the first opportunity…" He said, trying to sound confident and failing once again.
"That's all we need." Lockjaw stood up and walked towards Henry, eyeing him up with suspicion emerging in his gaze. "You should be proud of what you've done, Henry; I've been waiting for this for two years, as have you…Finally, all of us will get the opportunity to get the justice we deserve." Oh yes, he was the one to talk. "Not to mention how much you've impressed me. You pledged loyalty to a creature beyond your understanding and maintained it up to this day…You paved the way for this reunion I've anticipated for a long while now." Why did it feel like he was mocking him? Henry took a deep breath and looked the monster in his eyes. He had to face him…It won't be long till he will finally get the much-deserved punishment. "You are not going to go back on us now, will you?"
"No…Of course not." Henry spoke up. "I want to see those freaks dead as much as you."
"Glad to hear that. If that's so, then I assume we are all ready." Lockjaw looked over his companions.
"Right when you are." Lynda nodded.
"I am ready…" Henry forced himself to say.
"Then make the call. Tell you tracked down a woman who hid the offline animatronic and that both are now ripe for the taking. Bring us back 'home,' and hopefully, when I leave this time, it will be on my terms." He sounded eager to begin the bloodshed. It made it sound all the more believable that his nature was murderous. Now, Henry had the power to bring him down. Even if it meant dooming Lynda, he has gone too far to turn back now.
Henry took out the phone, doing exactly as he was told.
In a few hours, Takaliken house became silent.
