Chapter 6: Poison

The trip to the mainland was silent, Rogue biting her lip, while Remy gently squeezed her hand and kept an eye on Sinister and his Marauders. Sinister had a smile on his lips, which made the Cajun uneasy, knowing it wasn't going to be easy to get away from the larger man. He was glad Rogue was with him, though, but hated how Sinister was tagging along. What was he doing? What's his plan?

The boat docks, the group getting out and Remy, Arclight and Scalphunter lead, while Sinister and Blockbuster walked in between Rogue. They walk through alleyways, heading deep into the city, when they stop for a moment. "Should be around here…" Scalphunter looked around.

Sinister had Blockbuster guard Rogue while he watched the trio scout around. "There!" Arclight yells, pointing to a mutant who got spooked and skittered away down the alleyway.

"Follow them!" Sinister commands.

Scalphunter and Arclight rush after the mutant, Remy hesitant, but one look back made him go. The mutant opens up a man hole, gasping as they notice the trio coming forward. Scalphunter shoots, but the man hole slams closed, Acrlight yanking it open and hearing the mutant running down the sewers tunnels. Sinister grins as he walks over to the entrance. "We're close. Let's go." He says, motioning the trio to go down.

Once they were down the ladder, the trio move forward, Remy glancing back to Rogue who was being guided by Sinister. His eyes narrow but he kept focused on what he had to do. "There!" Scalphunter yells, as the mutant scrambles down a hall, shooting.

Arclight uses her powers to cause tremors, the mutant getting shot in the leg. Remy was hesitant to throw his charged card, Sinister commanding them to follow, while Rogue watched in horror. The mutant had run right into the Morlocks stronghold, panting and gritting their teeth in pain. "What happened?!" Callisto asks.

"Mister Sinister and his Marauders are here." The mutant cries out.

Evan growls, his spikes growing. "If it's a fight he wants, it's a fight he'll get."

"Evan, we should call your friends. They could help us, most of us aren't fighters." Callisto says urgently.

Evan makes a face, but then nods, heading off to go contact Scott and the others. Meanwhile, Scalphunter, Arclight and Remy get to the threshold of the Morlocks home while Sinister walks slowly inside with Blockbuster and Rogue. He commanded them to take down the place, mutants young and old scrambling for safety or a way out. Remy throws his cards, making sure they weren't hitting anyone but making it look like they are. Scalphunter shoots down some mutants, while Acrlight attacks some others. Rogue watched in horror. "Yoah killin' them?!" She shouts.

"They were monstrosities anyway. They weren't… perfect." Sinister says as he watches.

Rogue's eyes widen in rage. "Yoah a monster…" She whispers.

"I've been told that many times." Sinister glances at her from the corner of his eye, sending a shiver down her spine.

Remy ducks into a hallway, panting with eyes wide, some bodies of mutants laying on the ground. He glances to Rogue who was watching in horror, trying to make his brain think of a plan to get her away from Sinister. "The X-men are coming!" Scalphunter yells, Remy snapping his head up from thinking.

Sinister moves forward, leaving Rogue alone for a moment. This was Remy's chance. As there was more screams and explosions, Remy runs and takes Rogue by the hand and they duck into a hallway, running as fast as they could. Sinister looks behind him, noticing Rogue had disappeared, then he looks to Scalphunter. "You know what to do." He says, Scalphunter nodding as he puts something different in his gun.

Remy and Rogue lean against a wall, catching their breath. "Oh mah god-he's killin' them!" Rogue runs her hands through her hair, eyes wide and trying to stifle a sob.

"I know. I didn' t'ink he would-merde." Remy runs his own hand through his hair, his heart racing.

"You murderer!" A voice shouts then Remy gets tackled.

Rogue gasps as Evan tackles Remy, the two fighting each other. "Evan! Wait! Stahp! Please!!" Rogue screams.

Evan pauses after slashing at Remy's chest, Remy gritting his teeth in pain as he had several slashes on his body. "Rogue? Don't tell me you weren't dragged into this?" Evan gets up.

"N-no." Rogue shakes her head. "Remy wasn't killin' anyone. None of his cards were hitting anyone directly. Sinister's makin' him do these bad things so that he doesn't hurt meh. We didn't know he was plannin' on killin' some of the Morlocks."

Evan looks down at Remy who was staying down, catching his breath, then he sighs and holds out his hand to help him up. "So now what?" Evan asks.

"We have ta get ta the X-men. We aren't safe heah. If he fahnds out Remy took meh away he could kill meh." Rogue's voice quivered.

"Okay, follow me!" Evan starts running, the two southerners running after him.

They run down a series of halls, stopping when Evan pauses and peers out. "Hey, I see the others! Weird that Sinister guy and his goons are gone…" Evan says.

"We're saved?" Rogue smiles in relief, feeling Remy sigh in relief.

They hear a gun shot ring out, Rogue feeling something hit the back of her neck and her visions become blurry. "Rogue!!" Remy yells, catching Scalphunter retreat from the corner of his eye. "No!"

Rogue collapses to the ground, feeling cold and her body weird. Evan rushes forward, Remy quickly kneeling down and taking the dart out of her, noticing it filled with an almost familiar liquid. "He fuckin' poisoned her!" Remy growls, angrily throwing the dart aside.

Evan picks it up and looks at it. "Maybe Callisto has an antidote."

Rogue moans in pain, Remy picking her up and rushing with Evan, his eyes full of rage and concern. "Hang in dere chère." He says softly.

Scott, Jean, Kurt and Kitty look around, wondering what had happened, their faces full of shock and horror. Kitty spots Evan from the corner of her eye rushing towards them with Remy and what appears to be Rogue in his arms. "Oh my god! Rogue!" Kitty cries out.

"Evan! Thank goodness you're alive." Scott sighs in relief.

"Rogue might not be if we don' get 'er an antidote." Remy snaps.

"Vat?!" Kurt's eyes widen.

"What happened?" Jean asks.

"She was poisoned by Mister Sinister, one of his Marauders shot her with this." Evan holds up the dart, a little bit of liquid still inside.

"Let me see it." Callisto says as she appears from the shadows. "We need to get her on a bed right now. Where are your other X-men?"

"Wolverine, Storm and Beast are scouting the tunnels for any signs of the Mauraders or Sinister." Scott answers.

Callisto nods. "Quickly, we don'y have much time. I have a few antidotes left, they should work."

They all rush down a hall, what remains of the Morlocks were all sitting on cots and beds trying to recover and heal. Callisto opens a curtain, motioning Remy to lay Rogue down on the bed. His eyes looked at her concerned, his gloved hand touching her forehead gently only to find it burning up. He can tell she was uncomfortable and fighting off the poison, hearing Callisto make some commotion as she grabs a needle. "Okay, this should work." She says as she injects it into Rogue's arm where Sinister had taken blood from a week prior.

They watch in anticipation, Callisto narrowing her eye. Rogue makes a face in her sleep and coughs, feeling her breathing become rapid. "What happened?! Why isn't it workin'?!" Remy demands.

"It usually works right away! I don't understand why it's not!" Callisto furrows her brows. She looks at the dart again, sighing in frustration. "Dammit! He must've made a separate one for her so that we can't just give her one of our antidotes we've been treating the others with!"

Remy clenches his hands into fists at his side. "Putain de dieu! (God fucking dammit)" He swears as he runs a hand through his hair.

"Kurt, go find the others. We need Hank here right now so he can figure out how to make an antidote." Scott says.

"We don' have time." Remy says. "We need de antidote now an' I t'ink I know where t' find it."

Remy looks at Rogue, feeling his heart ache. He places a light kiss in her hair, whispering he'll be back, then turns and starts heading out at a fast pace. Jean and Scott look at each other. "Kitty, stay with Rogue, Evan we might need your help, Kurt we still need the others here." Scott commands.

Kurt nods and teleports away, Kitty nodding and sitting down to hold her best friend's hand, Evan follows Jean and Scott to catch up with Remy. "Hey, Gambit," Scott calls out. "We're coming with you."

Remy pauses, turning his head. "Y' realize y' two are what he's lookin' fo' t', right?"

"We know, but Rogue's our friend and we're going to help you. You're already injured and you can't take him on by yourself." Jean says, looking determined.

Remy sighs. "Fine, but we have t' be quick."

"You sure you'll be okay? Those cuts look a little bad." Jean asks.

"'Ll be fine." His gaze was cold as he continued forward.

The trio look at each other, knowing it could be a trap, but they still rushed with Remy. Remy knew Sinister probably returned to his island, knowing how to get there too, they take a boat and speed off in the direction. His gaze glared at the waves as he looked forward, knowing he was out for Sinister's blood. One way or another, he was going to get that antidote even if that meant to die trying while Rogue laid in the bed breathing heavily and shivering as Kitty watched over her worried.
