Chapter 2:
It's October now, the crew and Jason are hanging around the stage when 4 gazelle's approach them.
"Hey you guys must be new here, I'm Todd and we are hosting a halloween party this Saturday. If you guys want to come here's the address." Todd says as him and his friends walk around handing out invitations.
"This sounds fun, It will be an experience to attend a college Halloween party," Desoto says.
"Alright but if things seem sketchy or any of us feel unsafe message the group text and we will all meet outside and go home," Jason says as the other three nod in agreement.
Two days later it's now 6:45pm and Jason them arrive at the house, the door is wide open as there are other animals standing around chatting, laughing, and drinking. Desoto them not being to concerned about the drinking or smoking just head inside and are greeted by Todd.
"Hey, I am so glad that you guys were able to make it, did you guys have trouble finding the place?" Todd asks
"Nah we didn't have a hard time, thank you for inviting us, we weren't expecting to be invited to a college party so soon." Jason says.
While Jason and the group make small talk with Todd, A panda bear walks up and introduces himself.
"Hey I'm Copper, you must be Casper right? I wanted you to meet some other bear friends of mine, you know so that you have a group to hang with if your other friends are busy or what evs," Copper says.
Feeling suspicious Desoto looks at Copper and notices he has white powder on his nose,"Hey Copper, quick question what is that white powder on your nose?"
"Oh its just powder from donuts, if you go down the hall second door to the right you will see the kitchen right beside it along the wall you will see the desserts and drinks, both alcohol and regular drinks." Copper says wiping the powder from his nose.
Casper looks at Jason who nods and reminds his friend to text the group chat if he feels uncomfortable. Casper follows Copper up the stairs into an open room where 2 polar bears, a black bear are sitting around a table playing cards.
Once Casper steps into the room he sees another small table in the corner away from the door with lines of powder on it.
"Oh is that sugar from the donuts, why are they all in a line?"
"That...Oh its because Tyler over there, he has diabetes so we need to make sure his sugar levels are ok, thats why we have that because since its already powder it will be able to get into his system quicker." Copper says looking over at the black bear. The polar bears on the other hand let out a soft snicker.
Jason, Desoto and Rosco are walking around the house, Jason with a pepsi, Desoto with a water, and Rosco with a mamosa, just looking around and nodding at people as they pass by. Rosco notices that they are coming to the kitchen area and he looks on the table and sees a wide spread of desserts but none are powdered at all. On high alert Rosco texts Casper and asks if he's ok to which Casper replied that he is.
Rosco lets out a sigh of relief as he continues to explore with his friends, a female doberman approaches the friends and Desoto compliments her on her outfit and notices that she has her ears pierced. The doberman takes Desoto by the hand and leads him to the dance floor, Desoto feeling nervous looks at his friends who hold up their phones to remind him to text the group text.
On the dance floor the female doberman introduces herself as Madison and she begins to dance with Desoto grinding on him, not being to fond of this just sways side to side and fist pumps the air.
Up in the room, Casper asks Tyler if he can try some of the sugar, Tyler nods his head but tells Casper that he has to use his finger for the sugar. Tyler grabbing a card makes a small cut in one of the lines just enough for Casper. Casper then licks his pointer finger and presses it on the sugar getting his finger coated in it before sticking it in his mouth, he then makes a disgusted face which causes Tyler them to laugh.
"Don't worry kid you will get used to it if you hang out with us long enough." Tyler says. Casper not knowing what Tyler means watches as the polar bear takes a straw and sniffs the line of sugar before letting out a sigh and rubbing his nose.
"WTF TYLER?! IS THAT EVEN SAFE TO DO?!" Casper shouts but is immediately told to quiet down and that it is ok since thats the way Tyler has been doing it since 10th grade.
Casper didn't know that Desoto overheard him,and texted the group chat, Casper looks at the chat and gasps as he tells the other bears that he needs to go now.
"Hey what's the rush Pooh Bear?" Tyler asks, just then Desoto and the gang walks into the room, which shocks Casper and the bears.
"Hey dont you know that this room is strictly for bears only, get the fuck outta here." Todd says in an irritated voice.
"Casper...Here...Now," Desoto says in an agitated voice.
Casper lowers his head and holds his left shoulder as he shamefully walks towards the gang.
"We are going to have a long talk back at the dorms," Desoto says before looking over at the other bears.
"Listen we won't tell because we aint snitches but if you involve our friend in this shit again, we still wont tell but we will...fuck...you up, do you understand." Rosco says as they leave the room and walk out of the house.
"Casper do not lie to us what the hell did you do in that room?" Jason asks.
"I...I didn't know what it was, and i still dont know what the fuck it was. All I do know is that i tasted it and fucking hated it." Casper says making a face.
"That was coke Casper." Desoto answers still pissed off with the bears.
"Really that didn't look..." But before Casper can finish Rosco answers.
"Yeah now I know you really didn't know because you were about to say that did not look like any soda you ever seen, and no it wasn't sugar, or baking soda or flour it was coke as in cocaine the drug."
Back at the dorms, Casper just tosses his phone and sits on his bed overwhelmed with regret and forgets to plug in his phone. One hour later he notices that its 6:45.
"Man the gang must be upset with me, this is when one of them texts the group chat to let everyone know we heading to dinner. They are going to stop being my friends for sure," Casper whispers and softly sobs into his hands.
Just then a knock is heard at his door and Casper jumps in shock, He walks over to the door and answers it. Standing outside his door is Rosco, Jason and Desoto.
"Casper what the hell man, we texted you 13 times to let you know we was going to head to dinner and to meet us in the lobby." Jason says annoyed.
Casper runs back to his bed and grabs his phone, the screen is black and he realizes that he forgot to plug it in.
"Shit I'm sorry guys, I didn't know my phone died and since I didn't get a text I thought you guys were mad at me and didn't want to be friends anymore because of that one mistake." Casper says his eyes swelling with tears.
"Hey bud it was a mistake, not a little one, but still it was one mistake. If you do it again however we will kick you from the group. Jason states as they head out the door and to the cafeteria.
Halloween is tomorrow and Jason them are sitting in their seats waiting for their lecture to begin. The professor enters the classroom but everyone notices he has just a single piece of paper.
"Instead of lectures I wanted to let you guys know that you all will be breaking up into groups of 6 and will be traveling to different states to learn about their culture and urban legends and myths. Jason, you, Rosco, Desoto, Casper, Albert, and Gary will be traveling to Hawaii." The teacher then proceeds to break up the rest of the class into groups.
"This is so cool, My dad was originally from there so, maybe we can all travel there with them," Jason then raises his hand and the teacher calls on him.
"Hey Teach, are we in charge of our own plane tickets and housing and what not?"
"Yes Jason you guys are but be sure to save the reciepts and the school will reimburse you by either writing you guys a check for the amounts that you spent, or giving you guys a school credit for what ever you may need it for." The teacher says.
Once the class is dismissed Albert and Gary are looking at plane tickets and how much it would cost for a round trip. But they overheard Jason on the phone.
"Hey uncle Tadano, my group has to go to Hawaii for a trip to learn about the culture and urban legends for a project for class, do you think you could help us out...yes uh huh...6 of us in a group...I will ask one second," Jason looks over at Albert and Gary.
"Hey do you guys want to ride with us to and from the islands? My uncle is willing to take us and my dad is willing to give us a tour and talk about the culture and urban legends that they may have." Jason says looking at the two, Albert gives Gary a sly look and nods to Jason.
Once Jason and the gang leaves, Gary looks at Albert, "This is going to be an easy A. we can pretend to get along with Jason them just to get a free trip, and we can pretend to care about that damn culture," Gary says as Albert begins to mock the hula dance. Little did they know Desoto came in because he forgot his school bag and saw what Albert was doing which pissed Desoto off.
A week and a half later, The group along with Jojo and Haida arrive in Hawaii. Tadano payed for their hotel and car rental and told them to give him a call when they are ready to head back. Jojo thanks Tadano and places his forehead to Tadano's and they both exhaled through their nose.
Albert whispered something to Gary which made Gary chuckle. Jason heard this and asked what was so funny.
"It's nothing Jason, Albert just told me something funny his mom did." Gary says, Jason just shrugs it off, as the group wait for Jojo and Haida to come with the rental. Jason sees Haida driving an 8 seater van, and the group piles in and makes their way to the hotel.
Thirty-Five minutes later they arrive at the Hotel and check in. Jason and Casper share a room, Rosco and Desoto share one, Albert and Gary share one, and Haida and Jojo share the VIP suite. Once everyone had settled in they met in the lobby and went to a restaruant across the street.
"The Kolohe Diner?... What does Kolohe mean dad?" Jason asks looking over at Jojo.
"It mean's mischiveous" Jojo says as they go inside and gets seated at a table.
"Aloha my name is Leilani and I will be helping you guys for the evening, can I get you guys started with some drinks and appetizers, or do you guys need some time?" Jojo just tells her some water for now and orders some onion rings.
Several minutes later Leilani arrives with the waters and the onion rings. When Jason them see it though its not like normal onion rings where they are just laying ontop of each other but this one was in the shape of a flower blooming. Albert and Gary begin to dig in and grab the onion rings, which causes Jason to give them a glare but then looks over at his dad who just gives him a look that says "It's ok son you guys are on a trip enjoy yourselves."
Jason and the rest begin to dig into the onion rings when Leilani comes back and the gang orders their meals for the night. When the food comes Jojo begins to explain some of the cultures urban legends.
"Alot of people say that since the Pali lookout was where one of the battles took places between two rival kings that you are not allowed to bring pork up there, and if you have pork in your car the car wont start until you throw it out. Another famous legend is the Night Marchers who again are old Hawaiian warriors that walk certain paths at night and if you hear the beating of drums and you see the faint flicker of torches that your suppose to show respect and lower your heads to them." Jojo says before taking a bite of his Kalbi.
"Have you ever experienced any of the urban legends Uncle?" Desoto asks.
" I did experience the Night Marchers but a family friend got to meet the Faceless Lady" Jojo says now taking a sip of his sweet tea.
The gang's faces grow a look of confusion, nervousness. Jojo just laughs and begins to tell the story.
"So back in the day there used to be one of those drive-in theaters and my mom's friend went into the bathroom and saw a lady standing by the sink washing her hands, but here hair was down covering her face. So my mom's friend asks her how she thought the movie was but didn't get a reply, when she started to maker her way over to the lady to see if she was ok the lady stopped washing her hands and looked over into my aunty's direction and moved her hair, the lady had absolutely no face it was just a smooth surface. Once they demolished the theater and put a bus stop there, people say that early in the morning they will see a lady sitting at the stop and if you ask her what time it is she will show you her face." Jojo says as he stops talking and finishes his dinner.
"Also you are not supposed to have any pork in your car if you are driving over the Pali Road, because if you do, your car will stop and wont turn back on until you throw the pork out, if you guys want to test these out to see if they are true or not we can do a few of them tomorrow, if you want to try the faceless lady one we will have to wake up early for it though." Jojo says wiping his mouth after taking a bite of his food.
The group agrees as they all head to their rooms, In Albert's room though the two college students begin talking to each other.
"What bullshit stories, there is no way any of that is real. First we are going to the bus stop and then later on going on that Pali Road, hey Gary why don't we bring pork when we go on the Pali Road to see if the car really stops." Albert says as he puts some cooked pork in a ziploc bag and puts it inside his little pull string bag. The two boys start to fall asleep snickering but little do they know they are in for a rude awakening.
It is now 2am Tuesday morning, as the gang hop into the van and begin to drive down the road, 24 minutes later the gang pulls up to a stop light and sees a bus stop in the darkness. Haida then parks the car in a parking lot facing the bus stop and turns off the car. Jason's face becomes flushed as he is staring at the bus stop.
"Whats wrong Jason?" Desoto whispers. Jason just points to the bus stop and the gang sees a lady in a white dress sitting at the bus stop with her head down.
"I...Is that the faceless lady Uncle Jojo?!" Casper asks freaking out and trying not to scream.
"yups...thats her alright." Jojo says.
"Bullshit, you guys probably planned this and had one of your friends dress up in a white dress and sit at this bus stop and wait for us to get here." Gary says, before Jojo could speak up Gary and Albert hop out of the van and begin to walk towards the bus stop across the street. Jojo hops out of the van and now angry begins to tell the two boys to come back and stop being stupid. Ignoring Jojo. Albert and Gary cross the street and begin to walk to the bus stop. The boys are 7 feet away from the bench and Albert starts to talk in a mocking manner.
"Hey you must be the faceless lady that haunts this stop huh?", the lady just continues to look down and ignores the mocking. Gary begins to make ghost noises taunting the lady.
"Hey lady, you deaf or just stupid? Answer when someone is talking to you." Albert says taking steps towards her but stops mid step when the lady lifts her head and faces towards the two boys. Albert takes a step back but then lets out a loud scream and begins to book it back to the van with Gary not far behind him. Once back in the van Albert and Gary begin to sob histerically.
"WHAT HAPPEND?" Desoto and Rosco ask in unison.
"T...Th...The bitch didnt have a face, like no eyes mouth nose nothing, it was just straight flat!" Albert says, Gary just wraps his arms around him silent still in shock.
"J...Jojo, I mean Mr. Jojo, what happens to the people who saw her?" Albert says slowly calming down.
"Oh, well the people who see her but are respectful just run away, but the ones who were disrespectful haven't been heard or seen from again," Jojo says hiding a smirk but Haida gives him that look that says *babe we want to scare them not traumatize them, tone it down just a smidge*
"But, I do think I can get her to forgive you, be right back," Jojo hops out of the car and stands infront of the van before calling out.
"I'm sorry ma'am, they are not from here and don't really know about the culture and legends, you are not allowed to follow them!" Jojo shouts, the lady then returns to her seat on the bench and then lowers her head again.
Jojo returns to the van and they hop in. Albert and Gary finally calming down let out a soft thank you to Jojo who simply shrugs his shoulders and tells the group that they are going to the Pali Road now. The gang has been driving for 45 minutes when they finally start going up the road to the Pali Lookout. Once they are getting near the top the van just stops. Haida tries to turn the key but nothing, he tries to turn the headlights on but nothing.
"Babe the van won't turn on?" Haida says confused and annoyed. Once hearing that the van wont start Gary and Albert give each other a look and their face becoming pale. Jojo turns his head and looking at the kids in the back.
"Hey did any of you bring any pork with us?" Jojo asks annoyed but also not wanting to assume.
Albert grabs his draw string bag and brings out the small baggy of cooked pork. Jojo just gently grabs the bridge of his nose and lets out a sigh. "Fucking hell, Albert give me the pork and then I wanna have a chat with you after once we get to the Lookout." Jojo says grabbing the pork and throwing it out the window. Once the pork was out the van immediately started. Haida drives to the lookout and everyone but Jojo and Albert get out and see the trees below them.
Jojo gets out of the passenger seat and gets into the back before closing the door and making eye contact with Albert.
"Listen Albert, and be honest with me because this is MY culture, MY lifestyle and I will not let anyone disrespect it, do you want to be here? If not I can call Tadano and have him bring your ass back home and drop you off at the campus, then when we are done I will have a talk with your teacher." Jojo says softly but stern.
"I...I'm sorry Mr. Jojo, I always been a skeptic to anything paranormal or ghost related, I always assumed it was just stories people would make up to get kids to behave ya know, and I wanna admit that when you and Mr. Tadano pressed your foreheads together me and Gary laughed." Albert says looking down.
Jojo grabs his phone and shows Albert a video clip about why the locals would do that with each other, Jojo tells him that not many people do it now days but its a sign of respect, just because you're not local born doesn't mean the locals wouldn't respect you, here on the islands you get what you give for the most part.
"I...I'm so sorry Mr. Jojo, I won't blame you if you called Mr. Tadano now and sent me home, I deserve it." Albert says. Jojo then sighs before looking at Albert.
"I will give ya another chance but the moment you disrespect my culture again, you will be back at the campus before the day is done got it." Jojo says staring Albert dead in his eyes.
After a day of sight seeing,and going to the beach the gang heads back to the hotel and goes to their rooms to get changed and ready for dinner. Rosco and Desoto finish getting changed and head to Jason's room. Jason opens the door and the two friends walk in, once in the room they see Albert sitting on a chair in the corner with his head hung low.
"Where is Gary at?" Desoto asks,
"He ended up falling asleep for a bit, I think all the events today tired him out." Albert says softly.
"Listen, I...I want to say that I am sorry for how I been acting, I pretty much had to raise myself, dad left and mom is still a raging alchoholic, I never knew that someone could be so proud of their culture and where they are from, but Jojo seems to be very proud of it."
"Of course Uncle Jojo is, a long time a go the mainlanders went to the islands and overthrew the queen, they made the islands take out learning hawaiian in the schools, so not many people speak it fluently anymore, but they are still proud of who they are and where they are from." Casper says. Albert looks at everyone and sees that they are all wearing hawaiian style shirts.
"Why are you all wearing those shirts?" Albert asks.
"We are going to a Luau later on and want to wear these shirts that's all." Desoto says.
It's 6:20pm now and everyone is waiting outside of the hotel as a bus pulls up, Jason them go inside followed by Jojo and Haida, Just then a brown pitbull comes on the bus and begins to speak.
"Aurite everyone, so we goin be heading out to a Luau, the food will be provided as well as the entertainment at no cost since it has been all paid already
