It was the night of the huge school Christmas dance, a Friday night specifically. Luz was dressed in a fancy tuxedo complete with a bow tie and couplings.
She was getting ready to go to the school dance with her amazing girlfriend, Amity as her date. Her basilisk sister Vee, dressed in her human disguise, walked in wearing an orange dress that she spun around in. "Well Luz, what do ya think?"
"I think your partner is going to like what you're wearing." Luz replied.
Vee blushed and played with her hair. "Masha is just going as my friend."
"Me and Amity went to Grom as friends." Luz retorted.
"You weren't even together." Vee pointed out.
"No, but it was technically a first date." Luz said as she combed her hair.
Vee blushed even harder. "It's not a date!"
"Okay." Luz said, not entirely convinced.
"And besides, they're too cool for me, there's no way they'd fall for me." Vee said.
"I thought Amity was cool." Luz said. "I had doubts we'd be together but…" She looked through her drawer for a photo of her and Amity snuggling on the couch together. "…Look at us. It's an unlikely relationship that became our reality."
"I mean, I know a human and witch interspecies relationship works but…" Vee turned into her basilisk form. "…What about a human and a basilisk?"
Luz didn't know what to say. She wanted to give Vee some hope that if she and Masha got together, they'd be okay. But she kind of doubted that Masha wouldn't be as used to her as a basilisk like she is.
"Vee, relationships are strange and complicated." Luz said. "Even if it's not with Masha, it could be with someone else."
"I hope so." Vee sighed.
Downstairs, Camila was watching a Christmas movie known as Domestic Burlesque's: It's a Somewhat Adequate Existence. A movie about a man who has an existential crisis while trying to spend time with his family on Christmas while also dealing with an angel.
"And I want that no good cheap, scrounging, small lipped, sack of monkey to dung to understand what I am saying!"
"Honey, you've been ranting about your awful boss for two hours and that angel won't leave us alone!"
"Mr Grizzlywold, have you even considered the great things you have done for your family? Do you really need to feel validated by being something you are not? Why can't you see that they'll accept you?"
There was a long pause. "Didn't I get a restraining order against you?"
Camila laughed. "Oh, esa película todavía me atrapa."
Then, she heard a knock on the door. She stood up, paused the film and walked up to the door to open it to see Amity standing on the porch with a bouquet of flowers in her hand.
"Hi Ms Noceda, I have come to be Luz's escort…" Amity's face turned red. "…Wait, that's wrong. I mean, I've come to take out your daughter. No! That came out wrong! I have come to take her away…Ahh!" Amity hid her face behind the flowers. "I'm so sorry."
Camila laughed. "Don't be, Amity, sweetie. Please come in. Mija! Your girlfriend's here!" Amity walked into the house while Camila closed the door. "Amity, Manny did the same thing when he knocked on my Mama's front door." Amity took off her coat to reveal her dress. "Oh and look at that dress!"
The dress Amity wore was similar to the one she wore at Grom. But there was a bit more purple around the corset and the skirt was a tad bit longer due to the cold weather. "You like it?" Amity did a little twirl.
"Oh Mija, that looks beautiful on you!" Camila exclaimed. "Luz is going to be gobsmacked!"
Luz and Vee walked down the stairs to greet Amity. "Hermosa!" Luz ran down the rest of the way to tackle her girlfriend in a hug.
"Batata!" Amity pulled out of the hug to look at her girlfriend. "You look absolutely beautiful."
Luz looked at her girlfriend's dress. "And you look more gorgeous. Is that what you wore at Grom?"
Amity blushed. "I made a few modifications to it."
"Beautiful modifications." Luz and Amity shared a quick kiss with each other which made Camila briefly gush at how adorable her daughter was with her girlfriend.
"Vee, when is Masha coming?" Camila asked just as Vee got a text on her phone.
"They said they should be arriving in a limo." Vee replied.
Luz looked surprised. "A limo?"
Amity seemed baffled. "A limo?"
"How did they afford a limo?" Camila asked.
Just then, there was a knock on the door and Camila answered it to see Masha in a fancy tuxedo and a chauffeur hat. "Greetings Ms Noceda, Ms Noceda, Ms Noceda and…" Masha froze when they saw Amity. "Oh, it's you!"
Amity looked surprised. "Wait, it's you?"
The Nocedas all looked at each other with surprise. "What, have you two met before?" Vee asked Masha.
"Yeah. The day before Halloween." Masha replied. "She came to me with a rebus puzzle. But to think she was Luz's GF, that is one of the most unexpected things I never expected."
"So wait, you're this Masha, Vee went on about?" Amity asked, causing Vee to squeak.
Masha gave a light blush and tried to hide it by pulling their hat down. "Oh, she's told you about me? I hope some great things."
"Believe me, they were all great." Luz gave Vee a teasing stare. "As well as some other bits of information."
"Hey, let's check out the limo!" Vee interjected before Luz could say more.
When she walked out of the house as fast as she could and stopped to see what the limo looked like, it was just a hearse painted white. Everyone had some mixed reactions to the choice of vehicle.
"Uh….Masha…"
"Is that a limo?" Amity asked.
"That would be a hearse." Luz replied.
"Masha, why did you rent a funeral car?" Camila asked. "And who's driving?"
"Look, my uncle owns a funeral home." Masha replied. "So, this was the best I could do. Plus, it's longer than most cars."
"The glass in the back is reserved for coffins." Luz reminded them.
"Yeah?" Masha retorted.
Luz just blankly stared at Masha. "What kind of jobs do your family have?"
"Oh my Mom is a coroner, my Dad is a crematorium technician, my aunt is a forensic cleaner, my cousin is a coroner's assistant with my Mom and my Grandpa is a gatekeeper at the cemetery." Masha replied.
"Sounds just about it." Luz remarked.
"But who's driving?" Camila asked with concern. "Masha, please tell me it isn't you."
"I'm wearing a chauffeur's hat aren't I?" Masha tipped their hat. "Don't worry, it's the only vehicle I can legally drive."
Camila sighed. "Okay. But be safe."
"Are we ready?" Luz hooked her arm to Amity's.
"Sure am." Amity replied.
"Wait! Wait! Wait!" Camila said. "I want to take a picture!" She ran back inside the house to get a camera where Masha and Amity began to talk.
"Wow, you're Luz's girlfriend." Masha remarked.
"Yeah. Amazing how we met each other before and didn't even get our names." Amity said.
"Yeah, I just referred to you as either pale girl or elf fan." Masha said.
"Elf fan?" Amity asked.
"Yeah, remember, the other day you were…" Amity froze as she realised Masha was about to tattle on the fact Amity was at the mall the other day which would lead to Luz asking questions and ruining the surprise.
Thankfully, Camila arrived just in time with a camera. "Okay, I found it. Huddle together everyone." Luz and Amity huddled together, arm and arm while Masha and Vee just held on to each other, blushing as they did. "Okay everyone say Baile de la noche."
"Baile de la noche!" Everyone exclaimed just as the camera flashed.
"Okay, let's go!" Masha said. "I hope to leave early so I can clean the paint off of this car. My uncle gets really mad if he sees a dab of paint on any of his Hearses."
Later, they make it to the back of Gravesfield High where many of the students were arriving in fancy suits and uniforms, entering the school gym where the dance was taking place.
Many were arriving in their parents cars or fancy cars that no one not even them could afford. And then there was Luz and her friends who all arrived in a Hearse.
Masha parked outside the school where many of the students were either laughing or just in disgust over the vehicle of choice.
"I wonder who's sad enough to ride in a vehicle like that?" A student asked.
Luz exited the vehicle and adjusted her bow tie, causing many of the students to mumble or make comments about it.
"Luz?!"
"Is that as close to a limo she'll get?"
"Of course this is what that weirdo gets."
Masha exited the vehicle anywhere a girl with black hair narrowed her eyes at Luz. "Hey Luz, who there's something wrong with your vehicle? There was a dead body in there." She laughed while Masha just narrowed their eyes at her.
"Ouch. You do realise that your Mom was in that vehicle?"
The girl gasped and quickly ran towards the vehicle. "Oh Mom, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to!"
Vee exited the vehicle and with Amity following behind. "Who's the pretty one?" Someone asked.
"You mean Luz's equally weird sister?"
"No, I mean the one with the pink hair. Who is she?"
Amity surveyed the students that were staring at her. Some with curiosity, others with raised brows and others looked smitten with how beautiful she looked to them.
Amity noticed the latter stares and turned to her girlfriend. "Well Luz, ready to dance?" She offered Luz's hand.
"Sure am, Amity!" Luz replied as she took her girlfriend's hand, causing everyone to either gasp or be in disbelief.
"What?!"
"It can't be!"
"Luz has a girlfriend?!"
"Impossible!"
"Luz just payed some hot girl to be her girlfriend! No girl in that type of league will ever go out with Luz Noceda!"
Amity, having had enough of everyone commenting on her girlfriend like that did something she bold. She held Luz by her back, dipped her and kissed her on the lips, causing everyone to gasp in shock.
"No way!"
"It is Luz's girlfriend!"
"She's real!"
"I don't believe it!"
Amity pulled her flustered girlfriend up and narrowed her eyes at the people. "That's right! Gawk all you want! Luz Noceda is my girlfriend! And if either of you mock her or humiliate her in anyway tonight, you answer to me! And that also goes to Vee and Masha."
"Why should I listen to you, Pale face?" A boy around Luz's age asked.
Amity turned to the boy with a hard stare. "With good reason." The stare the girl gave the boy caused him to shiver and to back away.
"Now Luz…Let's go." She, Luz and the rest entered the gym where the party was in full swing.
Many of the students were dancing or standing by the snack bar getting some punch or some of the Christmas themed treats such as Christmas tree shaped cookies or Christmas tree shaped pretzels.
There were teachers chaperoning in case of any altercations or fights. The Christmas decorations that hung overhead were of Christmas trees, Santa, Reindeers, snowflakes and Christmas presents.
"Wow, this looks amazing." Amity's remarked.
"Except for those who don't celebrate Christmas." Masha said. "Like Mr Sandman."
Mr Sandman stood by one of the doors looking depressed. "Why did I even fill in for Margret? Today's the last day of Hanukkah."
"Okay Amity, I'm a little thirsty." Luz declared. "How about the punch bowl?"
Luz began pulling Amity towards the punch bowl. "It isn't going to punch me right?"
Masha and Vee stood for a minute to survey the dance that was going on. Some were dancing terribly and some were dancing so bad that Masha was kind of sad they didn't bring their video camera or phone.
"So Vee, is this your first time to a prom?" Masha asked.
"Yeah." Vee replied. "I've never been to a dance before. Are they-"
"Dreadful?" Masha interjected as they folded their arms looking annoyed. "Of course. They're just ways to make popular people feel good about themselves while people on the bottom of the food chain don't have a date. Like Charlie Collins over there!"
Charlie, a balding 14 year old seemed surprised. "Actually I'm very happy with being single. I'm just here to admire how stupid everyone looks."
"Do you have a Prom monarch?" Vee asked.
"Yes! A prom Queen. They make people jeer with envy."
Vee looked shocked and surprised. "Envy?! They should be feeling pity for them. They're the ones fighting the monster."
Masha chuckled. "I guess the expectations of the peers will get them. Whoever will win anyway."
"Don't you wanna be Prom Queen?" Vee asked.
Masha laughed. "I'm a monarch to my own right. I don't need a crown to tell me otherwise. Now come on, I feel like a cake."
Over at the snack bar, Luz was using a ladle to pour herself a glass of punch while Amity stayed back in fear of what might happen.
"Are you sure that the punch won't hit me?" Amity asked.
"Amity, it's not Boiling Isles punch, trust me." Luz assured her before realising something. "So wait, punch actually punches you in the Demon Realm?"
"Well…Well…Well." Said a voice that made Luz irk. "Look who decided to show up." And from out of nowhere, seven scheming bullies, with the leader being a girl with blonde hair and pink hair lights. This was Amy Light. The resident popular girl and common nemesis of Luz.
"What do you want Amy?" Luz asked.
"Just wanted to greet you and to warn this girl to stray far away from you if she wants to save her social status." Amy explained.
Amity scoffed. "And what business is it of yours as to what my social status is?"
"I don't know." Amy replied. "Why would you wanna hang with a girl like Luz Noceda?"
Amity pondered that suggestion. "Well let's see, A: Because I've known Luz for longer than you. B: Luz is my girlfriend."
Amy and the bullies gasped. "I can't believe it. Amity is real."
"She's hotter in real life." One of the bullies comment made everyone stare at him with shocked expressions. "What? Am I not allowed to say my opinion out loud?"
"Well, that's shocking." Amy remarked. "You know Luz, I liked it better when you were just sulking and minding your own business looking depressed and wearing that beanie."
"I'm sorry, you don't like the fact that she's happy?" Amity reacted.
"I didn't say I didn't." Amy retorted.
"Why do you constantly harass my girlfriend?" Amity asked.
"Because she's weird." Amy replied. "She likes Good Witch Azura and always stupidly optimistic."
"I love Good Witch Azura." Amity said.
"Sweet Potato, maybe we shouldn't." Luz suggested.
"No Luz, I wanna get to the bottom of why this girl bothers you so much." Amity said. "I mean, if you don't like someone, why can't you just stand back and mind your own business? What business is it of yours for you to harass her like that? Like seriously, it's kind of pathetic. Maybe you have a deeper reason to harass Luz? Is it something psychological? Like you want to feel some kind of dominance or status of higher power towards Luz just to make your peers say that they should team up with you or otherwise you'll end up like Luz? Or maybe you bully and harass Luz because your family is putting pressure on you to be great and popular therefore you bully Luz ro make yourself feel that way. Or maybe you hate yourself so much that you bully Luz just to make yourself feel better. I used to be like you, you know. But I learned to grow. When will you?"
Amy narrowed her eyes at Amity and was about to punch her, until Mr Sandman inadvertently got in-between them. "Oookay, I hope they have some delicious nibbles. Oooh, chicken satays. Pigs in a blanket, no thank you."
Amy narrowed her eyes at Amity and Luz. "This isn't over Noceda." She and her gang of bullies walked away.
Mr Sandman looked at the bullies with a surprised look. "What? Did I just disrupt a fight?"
"Thanks for your assistance Mr Sandman." Luz replied.
"Uh….You're welcome Luz and pale cotton candy haired girl." He walked away to deal with something, leaving the girls alone.
Amity turned to her girlfriend and sighed. "Luz, I'm sorry. I should have let you handle this yourself."
"Amity…" Luz smiled. "…It's okay. I hate to sound immature but she did deserve it." She held Amity's hands in hers. "But I'm glad you're here with me."
Then, the sound of a song was playing over the speaker, causing Luz to perk up. "OH! This is a jam."
Amity seemed baffled. "How is this song the equivalent to jam?"
"Just dance with me." Luz pulled Amity on to the dance floor and Luz began dancing.
It took some time for Amity to move with the beat, but when her body eventually got with the rhythm. She began dancing in sync with the music along with her girlfriend.
Amy and the others watched from the sidelines as they watched this girl dancing with someone they despise. "How of all people did Luz end up with a girlfriend?!" Amy asked. "It just doesn't make sense!"
"You know, my great Aunt says that love is blind." One of the girls said.
"Tabitha, that is stupid!" Amy exclaimed. "Even a blind person wouldn't date Luz."
"Hey, that's offensive." Said a student with a guide dog. "But yeah, I wouldn't even date Luz."
"Sorry Allan, I meant no offence." Amy said.
"It's okay." Allan said.
"So, are we still going with the plan?" A bully with glasses asked.
"Yeah. And remind me, was it pig's blood?" Amy asked sinisterly.
"I couldn't get pigs blood." The geek said. "But, I did get corn syrup."
"Corn syrup?!"
"They use it as blood in movies." The geek replied.
The girl smiled. "Okay, that works. Remember guys, make sure Luz becomes Prom Queen."
And so, two of the bullies split up to be on ballot box duty so they could replace the ballots with some the student's wanted.
Back beside the snack bar, Masha and Vee were both sharing a cup of punch together. They clinked their cups together and drank together.
They had been standing together for a few good minutes just laughing and chatting it up. "…So then, me, four years old, still napping in that coffin…Was about to be cremated." Masha laughed and Vee stared at them with an awkward expression.
"Uh…."
Masha chuckled. "Sorry, I guess my sense of humour isn't for everyone."
"I didn't mean to not laugh." Vee said.
Masha placed their hand on Vee's shoulder. "It's okay. Really, it is. That experience was more traumatising really."
Then, the sound of slow music was playing which made a lot of the students find their respective partners and to get into a slow dance. By one student holding one hand to their back and another around their waist. Some hands ended up on another hand and some around the shoulder. But they slowly moved their feet to the slow song that was playing.
Luz and Amity of course, got into the slow dance together. With Luz holding her girlfriend's back with one hand and her hand in the other. Amity held Luz by the shoulders with her hand as they slowly danced.
"Hey Vee…" Masha held out their hand to her. "…If it isn't too much, may I have this dance?"
Vee became flustered and play with her hair. "I…Actually don't know how to dance."
Masha laughed. "It's okay. Neither do I. At least I'll have someone beside me to screw up with."
Vee was reluctant but she couldn't say no to them. Not missing the opportunity to hold hands with the human she was pining for.
The two walked onto the dance floor hand-in-hand, ready to dance the night away together. Masha held Vee by her shoulders, causing the Basilisk to fluster a bit.
"Where do I hold you?" Vee asked.
"Anywhere you find comfortable." Masha replied. "At least I think that's how it works."
"Um…" Vee got to her knees and grabbed Masha by their legs, causing them to be surprised.
"Or at least, a position the dancing partners can agree on." Masha said. And so, Vee grabbed Masha by the ears. "Maybe not there." Then by the scalp. "No." Then around the neck. "Come on, I don't want you getting arrested for murder." Then Vee went a little too low, causing Masha to blush and to chuckle. "Okay Vee, a little too low." Vee placed her hands around Masha's back. "Yup, there's good."
And so, with a little help from each other, they slowly swayed to the music, almost in synch. Though, there was the odd moment where they stood on each other's feet.
"Ow!"
"It's okay." Masha assured her. "This tends to happen to first timers."
They continued their slow dance where they eventually got it right this time. Mainly because they were staring at each other's eyes.
Masha looked into Vee's beautiful orange irises with a smile. They saw her as one of the strangest yet oddly fascinating people they have ever met. Plus, they were beautiful. They seriously hoped they had a relationship with her.
Vee on the other hand couldn't help but give a bittersweet smile over this. She thinks this relationship could happen but how long would it last. They were going to find out eventually. Should she take the leap and become their girlfriend? Or just remain friends with them to spare herself the heartache?
Meanwhile on the dance floor, Luz and Amity continued to slow dance with each other, getting lost together in this moment. Luz staring into Amity's golden eyes, was smiling at how far she had come.
How she was alone despite how positive and enthusiastic she was, until now. She had a ton of friends and an amazing girlfriend whom she was dancing with.
Amity herself was sort of in Luz's position, she herself felt alone. Compare that to Luz, she had friends and was constantly trying to be better than everyone. But ever since Luz showed up in her life, she felt like she didn't want to be that person anymore. She was finally happy and was finally loving herself. And that was in due part to Luz.
Her girlfriend began to pressed her head in-between her chest and collarbone as she closed her eyes. Amity held her close and kissed her head.
Amy just watched on with a scowl, feeling disgusted with their affection. But a sly grin showed up on her face.
Masha and Vee continued to slow dance with each other, still staring at each other. What they didn't realise until now was how close their faces were.
Their eyelids slightly shook and they leaned in. They closed their eyes and their lips were closing in. And before someone could interrupt them, their lips made contact. This was it, Vee's first kiss with the human she had been pining for.
Was this the beginning of their relationship? Who knew? This kiss was still kind of scary for her because of the future that was in store.
They pulled out and began to stare at each other lovingly, completely blushing. Masha played with their ear as they tried to look away from the girl they just kissed.
Vee was in absolute disbelief as well. "Yikers." Vee said.
"I can't believe I just kissed you!" Masha exclaimed.
"I can't believe I just said yikers!" Vee exclaimed as she held her cheeks.
"Great, another Noceda." Amy groaned in annoyance, causing Vee and Masha to narrow their eyes at her. "Why is that Nocedas always end up with the weirdos?"
"From my perspective you're the weirdo." Masha retorted. "I mean, commenting on people kissing. We're not hurting anyone. Look behind you."
Amy turned around to see many of the dancers, including Luz and Amity giving each other kisses on their lips.
Amy just sighed. "Sorry, I guess I'm just not used to Nocedas getting in a relationship from anyone. Let alone the ones perfect for them."
"Watch yourself, Prom Queen!" Masha interjected.
Amy laughed. "Who said I was going to be Prom Queen? I believe Luz will."
Vee and Masha seemed surprised. "Wait, Luz?" Vee asked.
"Why do you have high hopes for Luz, winning?" Masha asked.
Amy just grinned. "I have high hopes. Besides, can't be Prom Queen forever. You don't know who could humiliate you." She began walking away, causing Vee and Masha some suspicion.
"I don't like this." Vee said.
"Me neither." Masha agreed.
"Amy constantly belittled Luz." Vee pointed out. "She still does. Why is she starting to become hopeful for Luz?"
"Something doesn't feel right."
Masha and Vee walked toward the ballot boxes where they were seeing two of Amy's bully friends standing guard.
"That's Tobey and Bruce." Masha said. "They're usually seen with Amy."
"What are they doing at the ballot boxes?" Vee asked.
"On guard, I suppose." Masha said.
"But are they?" Vee pondered along with Masha.
"There's no way we'd get information out of them on our own." Masha said. "Last time I tried to get information out of Amy's group regarding some things, I almost got detention for two weeks."
"Well, I might have a plan." Vee said before bumping into Mr Sandman.
"Sorry Vee." Mr Sandman said while eating a chicken satay.
"Okay Masha, I need you to go and distract Amy with one of your horrifying stories while I get info out of Tobey and Peter." Vee said.
"Okay. I could tell her about my operation." Masha said.
"Operation?" Vee asked.
Masha unbuttoned the lower half of their white shirt to reveal a huge scar on their stomach that was marked like an 'X'.
But how will you do it?" Masha asked while buttoning their shirt back up.
"Trust me." Vee said while giving Masha smirk.
Masha walked towards Amy, whom was standing by a snack bar chatting to some of her friends. "Hey Amy, do you wanna know how I got these scars on my abdomen?"
While Masha went to freak out Amy, Vee adjusted her hair and exhaled. "Okay, here goes nothing." She walked through a crowd of people whom were chatting to each other. She walked into that crowd as Vee Noceda and came out as Amy.
'Amy' walked up to Tobey and Peter with a sly grin on her face. "Uh, I'm so pretty tonight."
"I'll say." Peter said.
"Agreed." Tobey agreed. "Shame, you don't have a boyfriend."
"Oh, are you available?" 'Amy' asked.
"Uh…." Peter nudged his shoulder.
"You are, you fool." Peter gave his friend a wink.
Tobey smiled at 'Amy.' "I didn't think you'd be interested in me."
'Amy' grinned slyly. "Oh, there's more to me than you think." Tobey blushed and looked away. "So anyway, how goes it boys?"
"The plan is all set." Peter replied. "We've made sure every ballot goes out to Luz."
"We even added some of the others in order to make it not seem suspicious." Tobey explained.
"And when she's on stage?" 'Amy' asked while emphasising the climax of the plan.
"We pour fake blood all over her." They all shared a laugh together while 'Amy' looked a tad bit nervous.
"Just like that novel." Tobey laughed.
"No, I'm pretty sure it was a movie." Peter argued.
"No! It was a book!" Tobey argued. "I read it in literature class."
"You liar!" Peter argued. "I saw it in a scary movie!"
'Amy' coughed. "Listen guys, I have a favour to ask. The staff bathroom. Some geek thought it would be a good idea to mock me."
"What do you want us to do?" Tobey asked.
"Deal with him!" 'Amy' demanded. "You are my boyfriend after all!"
Tobey shuddered. "Yes, Ma'm. Come on Peter."
The two ran off to face the so-called jerk while 'Amy' chuckled with the bathroom key in hand. "What a bunch of suckers."
A while later into the Prom, Mr Sandman was on stage tapping onto a microphone. "Testing. Testing. Okay students. Hello!" But the students were still dancing as opposed to listening the teacher. "Hello?! Hi!" But again, the students were still dancing causing Mr Sandman to sigh. "Alright, I'm gonna take my shirt off exposing my hairy dad bod."
The music stopped and everyone turned to the stage as quickly as they could. "NOOOOOO!"
"That's what I thought." Mr Sandman said.
"Hey Luz, have you seen Vee?" Amity asked.
"No." Luz said while looking around the dance floor. "She should be here."
Masha approached the two as they buttoned their shirt. "Goddess, can't believe I missed a few buttons. Have you seen Vee anywhere?"
"Hush!" A student demanded. "They're about to announce Prom Queen!"
"Okay, firstly I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas." Mr Sandman said. "And perhaps a Happy Hanukkah. You know, it's the last day and I would have felt a little bit of validation and appreciation if someone wished me a Happy Hanukkah. But I guess, no one will. Okay, I guess I should announce the Christmas Prom Queen. Okay, the ballots have been counted and the results seem legit after analysis from our voter fraud experts."
Amy was grinning while Luz was eating some chicken satay at the snack bar, knowing she wasn't going to win.
"It would be so cool if you were able to win." Amity remarked.
"Yeah, I highly doubt that." Luz said.
Mr Sandman pulled a little sheet of paper that had the name. "And the winner is…." He seemed surprised by the result. "Oh…..I should not ignore my optician." He put on a pair of glasses and he still was shocked by the results. "I wonder if that's a smudge." He took off his glasses and cleaned them with the paper before putting them back on and reading the name again. "I wonder if the paper…"
"JUST SAY THE NAME!" Amy cried, getting impatient.
"Okay! Okay!" Mr Sandman cleared his throat. "And the Prom Queen is, Luz Noceda."
Luz was so shocked by the results that she dropped her chicken satay on her shoe while Amity was shocked. She shook her girlfriend and motioned her to go on stage.
Luz, despite feeling surprised and nervous, walked up the stage while her peers applauded her. "Congratulations, Luz." Amy said condescendingly with Tobey by her side.
Luz walked on stage just as Mr Sandman placed her crown on her head and another teacher handed her a bouquet of flowers.
Everyone cheered and applauded her which was causing Luz some pressure and anxiety, like the whole world had stopped and like she was going to fall.
Amity luckily got on stage and took her girlfriend's hand to help calm her nerves. They shared a smile with each other with Luz feeling a tad bit calmer that her girlfriend was here with her.
In the crowd, Amy continued to applaud but with an even bigger grin. "Even better. Two for two. Good. That girl's skin could use a little more colour. Tobey, you know what to do."
"Yes, Amy." Tobey saluted Amy and began walking away from the crowd.
While the crowd was distracted, Tobey found a ladder pressed near the door and placed it against the wall where the top lead to the stage lights.
Tobey began climbing up the ladder an when they reached the top, he tied a rope around his waist so that way he wouldn't fall as he crawled along the bars and towards the bucket of fake blood. HE smiled with glee as he looked down at Amy.
In the crowd, Amy continued to applaud while staring at Luz. As soon as the clapping died down, Luz walked up to the mic to prepare a speech.
"Um…To be honest, I didn't have a speech prepared." Luz chuckled. "Let's face it, no one ever thought I'd make it as Prom Queen. Not even I."
"I thought you did." Amity said.
Luz smiled. "Thanks Hermosa." Her cheeks turned red as she rubbed the back of her head. "That was my girlfriend, Amity. Anyway, as I was saying, you know, I've been through a lot this year. I had some ups and downs, some joy and some trauma, I even had moments where I doubted myself. But thankfully, I found amazing people to get through troubled times. I was scared of telling everyone because I didn't want to be cared for, I didn't want to be burden for people because I thought I'd cause them so much grief. But I was wrong, they did everything they could to help me. So, if you're feeling bad, don't close yourself off, let people in. Because keeping it in will have some terrible ramifications."
Suddenly, Tobey tipped the bucket of fake blood, causing it to spill off the stage lights and down towards the bottom where it hit its intended target…..Amy.
When the blood landed on her, Amy screamed in horror since she did not expect the plan to go this way. "What is this?!" Amy screamed.
Luz and Amity were shocked by what had happened as well. They did not at all anticipate blood coming from the sky. Though Luz did admire the symbolism.
Mr Sandman ran up to the terrified Amy and used his finger to clean a bit of the fake blood off her face. He put it in his mouth to analyse the taste and turned to the students. "Calm down everyone! It's corn syrup!"
"It was supposed to go on Luz!" Amy dropped to her knees and began crying. "It was supposed to be Luz!"
Luz and Amity froze in horror before narrowing their eyes at the girls. "Okay, I think they deserved it."
Masha looked upwards to see who tipped the blood. And instead of Tobey, they saw Vee with the rope harness around the waist. Masha gave her a grin and a wave while Vee just blew her a kiss. They were both relieved that Luz was saved from humiliation and instead gave it to Luz.
Later, Luz, Amity, Vee and Masha were sitting on the stairs of the entrance to the gym just taking the night in.
"So, Amy was committing voter fraud to humiliate me?" Luz asked.
"Pretty much." Vee said.
"While I am impressed you tricked Tobey and Peter into the staff bathroom, how did you get the information out of them?" Masha asked.
Vee flicked her hair. "Oh, I have my ways." She then shivered. "I didn't realise how cold tonight would be."
Masha took off their jacket and wrapped it around their friend in an attempt to keep her warm. "There we go." Masha then blushed since they were still flustered about the kiss them and her shared together.
"It was a beautiful night." Vee remarked.
"Yeah, Vee." Masha said. "I agree. So…Listen, about that kiss. I was hoping that maybe, it could lead to more. What do you say?"
Vee pondered the idea. She didn't want to face the inevitable heartbreak of Masha finding out that she wasn't human at all. She should say no.
Or better, take the dive and begin the relationship with someone she was pining for. She leant in, and kissed Masha on their cheek.
"So, is that a yes?" Masha asked.
"Of course gorgeous."
Luz looked down over falsely winning the crown that she threw it away. "I don't deserve this. I won that crown because someone wanted to humiliate me."
Amity began hugging her girlfriend. "No Luz. Don't say that. Sure you probably weren't the actual Prom Queen, but you know what? You were the Prom Queen. My Prom Queen."
Luz, felt a little bit better about Amity's comment and smiled. "Don't be so modest Blight. You were the Prom Queen."
Amity rested her head on Luz's shoulder. "That's a lie and you know it Noceda." She then kissed her cheek, causing her to blush.
"Oh Amity, listen, there's something important coming up I need to tell you about." Luz said.
"Sure. I will do anything for you." Amity said.
"Right, you see, you and everyone in the Isles have become such an important milestone in my life that I didn't know what to do with you." Luz said.
"As far as I'm aware of, you being here is as good as enough of a reward." Amity said.
"Yeah. I couldn't think of anything so me, Mami and Vee are throwing you and everyone else a Christmas party."
Amity froze in shock and surprise. "What?"
