Okay, now for a new perspective. And since someone commented "strange,"... can you please elaborate? This POV is Evan Lorne somewhere in Season 4/5 just an FYI.

Evan Lorne sits in his office and reads through all the reports from the last mission again before submitting them. From the mission and initial debrief, he knows how much Cadman had enjoyed sneaking up on the "kids" and figuring things out. But Colonel Carter had masterfully blocked her from blurting out all her theories in the briefing room.

McKay had just noted how smart the young woman is, was, and will be... yes, all three possibilities and that she had admitted to having learned all she knows, or most she knows about ancient tech from her father, so the theory she is at least related to an expedition member is quite reasonable. Flicking open Cadman's report actually adds a layer to that theory he never expected.

'Athosian Lieutenant T calls woman McKay.'

Lord, help us.

Evan has half a mind to delete the line on the spot. That information would make Rodney more obsessed with going to that stupid planet and figuring out how to get to the future. But he catches himself before pressing the key and takes a deep breath before reading on.

She mentions 'She got used to working with Lorne, but looks like she'd like to use a space cannon and send him somewhere, anywhere else.

Evan groans out that Cadman actually wrote that line and triggers his com to summon the cheeky Lieutenant to his office.

"Cadman, meet me in five!"

Four minutes and 30 seconds later, she knocks on his door.

"Punctual as ever," he greets her and motions for the chair, "take a seat."

Evan musters the woman sitting opposite from him. Somehow Cadman always manages to look relaxed but keeps her composure as a soldier, a marine, too.

"Lieutenant, I have some questions about your report," he begins and turns the pad to her. "Why did you include your observations in a public report submitted to me, after Colonel Carter made you not tell everyone about them in the briefing?"

Cadman visibly knits her eyebrows in confusion.

"How would I submit them otherwise? Did you want me to send them to Dr. McKay for input directly?"

"Oh God, no," Evan blurts out before he catches himself and the smirk on her face.

"Point taken, Lieutenant, but you could've simply sent them to Colonel Carter directly. Did you leave anything out of your observations or theories?" he continues.

"Yes and no, Sir," she replies with a straight face.

"Which is it? Yes or no? Both are impossible as far as I know!" Evan grits out, getting a little bit annoyed.

"Not according to the Germans in the city, they have a word for that state in between yes and no."

"Cadman, don't make me assign you scientist babysitting for the rest of eternity..."

"Fine," she breathes out an exaggerated sigh before continuing, "Sir, I can't prove my theory, and that's why I left it out, but I am almost sure the missing team leader of that team we met is also named Lorne, and that's who the young woman got used to working with. What her problem is with you is anyone's guess."

"Thank you, Lieutenant, you can leave now."

After Cadman left, Evan sank back in his chair. She just has to be kidding, right? He scrapes his hands over his face and then gathers up the materials without making that particular note. He walks over to Colonel Carter's office and knocks twice to announce his presence.
Carter and Sheppard turn and wave him in.
"Major," Carter greets him and motions for a chair.
"I assume you have the reports of your last mission," Sheppard asks and swipes across his tablet.
"Yes, Sir." Evan manages to get out, but when his boss looks at him, he can see the confusion.
"I just didn't upload them to the network yet. I thought it best to talk to you first."
Sheppard looks confused, but something in Colonel Carter's look and nod tells him she knows or at least has a very good idea why.
"I am sure you have good reasons. Please fill us in then," she orders.
"Well, Mam, as you might have guessed, Cadman is very skilled in getting the little details. She overheard the new Athosian team leader calling the young woman not only doctor, which we already knew, but he called her McKay,"
"No way," Sheppard interrupts.
"But that's not all," Evan continues and feels a sour taste in his mouth, just as if stomach acid was rising.
He must've taken too long to continue as Sheppard gets impatient.
"What is it, major?"
"Cadman also heard her say she got used to working with Lorne," he adds with a swallow, "but she doesn't believe she was talking about me, sir. Her theory is she was referencing the other Lieutenant."
"The one that greeted us in the future?" Sheppard asks, confused and seeming to wreck his brain, "He doesn't really look like you, though."

"It's not all about looks, though," Colonel Carter interrupts Sheppard's musings with a wistful smile on her face.
"What do you mean?" his CO asks back.
"Look at Ronan. He looks like a bear, but he is a caring, vital part of your team," she explains.
"Point taken, so Lorne, any ideas?" Sheppard addresses him, and Evan almost jumps out of his seat. He'd been wreaking his brain but couldn't think of anyone right now.
"I mean, I haven't seen the young man, so I'd be guessing. My sister has two boys, but if McKay is right about the timeline and distances, I'd hope they'd made Captain by now, then..." he draws out.
"Maybe it's just a weird coincidence," Sheppard shrugs, and moments after that, Evan finds himself dismissed from the room.
He takes advantage of the lull in operations and the free time on his hands and heads to his quarters to finish up the email to his sister. Somehow, he needed to know if the boys were even remotely interested in the Air Force right now.
His chest fills with a weird sense of pride, imagining his nephew following him out here.
But there also was a dark cloud hanging over his head, thinking back to how the young Dr. McKay had reacted to him. Something wasn't feeling right.
After he finishes typing, Evan pulls out his sketch pad and heads for one of the quieter balconies.

Outside on that balcony, Evan sits down in a slightly shadowy alcove and starts putting pen to paper, so to speak. Most people in Atlantis know by now he is a solid painter. Quite a few have asked him to paint them some view of the city, but so far, no one has seen him sketch what develops on the pad in front of him.

Subconsciously, he started sketching out his nephews, and when the current version of them is roughly done, his mind wanders forward. Tries to imagine what they might look like 20+ years from now. But he isn't feeling relaxed, letting this idea guide him.

Usually, the objective of painting was to be free of the drama and stress of the job.

Evan shakes his head. Suddenly, his mind flashes back to the day of the explosion. That had been supposed to be a day off, too.

He closes his eyes and, for a moment or two, thinks about the people they lost. Expedition members, Co-Workers, and Friends.

And he also remembers the moments after. The way the remaining personnel had stepped up—some more than others.

He doesn't notice at first, but his hand starts drawing again until the door behind him swooshes open, announcing someone else seeking refuge on this balcony.

Evan turns to see who has stepped outside, but before he can say a word, she notices him:

"Oh, sorry, Major, I didn't mean to... "

"Don't worry. I can move if you need some alone time," he offers and gets up from his spot. He closes the sketch pad and suddenly realizes he has drawn her.

"I didn't mean to make you leave Major. Please stay. Can I see?" she points to the pad in his hands.

"They are just rough sketches," he tries to deflect and almost breathes out a sigh of relief when his headset triggers, and he gets summoned to the gate room.

"I am sorry, Dr. Keller. Duty calls," he apologizes before sprinting off.
