Chapter 4: A Future She Does Not Expect
France, 2 Years Later
Sometimes, Izuka thinks that the world works in a funny way.
Growing up, in a society where quirks run rampant and heroes is an actual job like an everyday salary man, little quirkless Izuka had always been seen as someone useless. Someone worthless, as if, she is not valuable enough to be worthy of a simple respect. That she, is not a normal human and nothing but society trash.
(The sneers, the mocking tilt of someone's mouth, all that sideway glance full of pity and clear underestimation)
A bit funny considering there are a lot of people that should have been labelled as a society trash besides a small quirkless girl.
But alas, that's just how the world works. Discrimination against the quirkless is nothing new in today's society, especially in cities with massive heroic and villain activities. That the world works in such way where people with no power – those who used to be called normal – are seen as someone below everyone.
In those bleak days where she has nothing to look forward to besides her mother heartbroken smile and attempts to cheer her up, the only thing that could keep her going is her dream of becoming a hero. Her dream to become someone great, someone that could prove everyone wrong that Midoriya Izuka, the small and quirkless girl, could become a hero like Allmight.
To be someone finally worthy of respect.
That's why she asked her mother for martial art classes. That's why she written notebooks upon notebooks on the very subject of quirk. To know more. To somehow has the upper hand despite her state of being quirkless.
To finally become a hero.
Heroes, could be said, is her escape from everyday life. Allmight who is the beacon of light in Japan, Endeavour with the highest criminals caught, and all the other heroes that seems to be ready to safe everyone with their flurry of quirks and blinding smile.
She used to read or watch every hero related media with starry eyes and gaping mouth. Some sort of imagination always formed inside her mind every time she laid her eyes on any kind of heroes. Of her, saving the day. Of Midoriya Izuka being a hero.
Just like Allmight, saving everyone in need with that large smile and reassuring words.
To extend their helping hand to everyone in need-
No one helped her.
No one, extend their helping hand when the blond boy from her childhood decided it's funny to use his quirk on her. No one extend their helping hand when the teachers laughed at her face when she finally muster enough courage to admit the burns and bruises from that boy.
"Boys will always be boys, Midoriya-chan"
"It's just a little roughhousing"
"Bakugo-kun will be a great hero someday, he will protect someone like you"
The burns that had bloomed upon her skin ever since Bakugo's quirk manifested throbbed under that words.
Small and quirkless Izuka with a dream too big and no chance to achieve it.
A joke to her peers.
Her classmates would laugh at her misfortune. Heroes, won't even give her a glance because it won't give them fortune and fame. Bakugo would just cackle madly as sparks began to erupt on her palm as he watched her with red red eyes full of mockery and amusement.
Namimori offered everything that Musutafu failed to. That the small town with many quirkless people give her more opportunity to become herself compared to the town she was born and raised beforehand.
It gives her a chance of happiness. Gave her friends, family-
It stopped her from dreaming to become a hero.
Izuka stopped, eyes staring at Allmight's face glaring through her from her own phone screen.
The street light besides her flicker for a bit, a sign of age and weariness. It was quiet besides the faint sound of cries and the chattering of her friends. Her own bright green eyes still focused on her own phone screen, staring at the Japanese article plastered across of it.
'ALLMIGHT WILL BE TEACHING UA HEROIC CLASS'
"Ah…" she mumbled softly, too quiet for anyone to hear besides herself. "UA"
For the first time in a long time, her long lost dream of becoming a hero emerged from the deepest part of her mind.
Noticing her sudden stop, both Ryohei-senpai and Takeshi who was walking in front of her also stopped, staring at her with confusion lacing their face.
The three of them are in France, doing some errands with the local authority here. Reborn had said that the sooner the better for them to learn more about how this world works. How people with underhanded tactics and blood dripping from their hands work.
To know, more about how organized crime like Vongola works.
It is, after all, a bloody business. To live in the other side of the law, no matter how powerful you are, is something risky.
With Vongola being the kings of the world's underworld, it is only natural for them – as the next boss guardians – to immediately learn how people do things here. Maybe Reborn's method is a bit cruel, to send teens with almost no experience being in the mafia to missions and business with the world's most notorious criminals. It is a cruel way of teaching, but at the end of the day, all of them learnt something.
Being put under a stressful and life threatening situation would certainly do that.
Reborn has always reason that is he didn't do this it will took them far too long to learn anything useful. Almost all of them has the disadvantage of not being born in a mafia family after all. In order to strengthen Tsuna's hold for the throne of Vongola, this is the least that they could do.
"Izuka-chan?" Called out Ryohei-senpai, head cocked a bit. "What's wrong?"
Pocketing her phone once again, Izuka shook her head. "Nothing, senpai" she grinned as she picks up her pace to stand beside the two male. "I just thought that my phone was ringing"
"Ehh, didn't you always put your phone in a silent mode Izu-chan?" asked Takeshi, as he slung an arm around both Izuka and Ryohei-senpai. It was a bit comical considering that Izuka is shorter than the male.
Though, she merely grinned at the gesture. This kind of thing had become Takeshi's habit after all. To always have some sort of skin contact with any guardians as if he was scared that without it, they all would disperse.
(Izuka knows that this habit starts after that time when they went into the future. Where the future is bleak and hopeless with them dying and scattered all across the world)
"Ah, that's true" answered the female. "Lets' just hurry up and finish this errand, Chrome said that the café near our hotel serve really good cakes"
As she said that, the three of them continue their walk inside the dimly lit street. Source of light are pretty scarce in this area. It's far from the hustle and bustle of the city after all. A place, where all the shady business started and ran.
The dark alley where many of France's villains and criminals operates.
There are faint cries of help or screams of terror from the numerous alley that they walk pass. If she's still Izuka from a couple of years ago, she would never ignores it. She would – despite being powerless and at the disadvantage – try to save anyone she could see. Izuka would sacrifice her life for someone in order to save them.
Izuka now though-
(Blood dripping from her fist. Bodies, lay scattered in front of her. All of them are cold with no air escaped between their opened mouth or bloodied nose.
Her hand trembles at the sight. She desperately tries to push back the sense of nausea as well as the cold dread that began creeping into her throat like an invisible choker.
"How is it?" asked Reborn, standing behind her with eyebrows cocked. He sounds so nonchalant as if there's no dying body in front of her. "Your first kill right?")
She ignores it.
It was a bit funny that a girl who once wants to be a hero ignores the cries of help from someone.
It was a bit funny, that the closest she can become a hero, is to become a mafia.
Small and quirkless Izuka, becoming a part of the mafia.
How laughable.
Both Ryohei-senpai and Takeshi ignores it too as the three continue their trek. The conversation between them still continues. Light heart without any discomfort or the feeling of uncomfortableness. As if, there is no cries of help surrounding them.
"Today's errand…" murmured Takeshi in Japanese. He spoke in a hushed tone to make sure that the only one who could hear his words are only the three of them. Absentmindedly, Izuka noted the faint cloak of flame around them. Blue in color, and was made in order for no eavesdropper to be able to hear what they're saying. "It's crucial for Tsuna right?"
Ryohei-senpai nodded his head, eyes going steely. "Everything we did lately is crucial for him"
"Yeah" agreed on Izuka. "The upper echelon is giving him a hard time"
For such an old and traditional family like the Vongola, taking the throne of the boss is hard even when you're the boss legitimate child. It's even harder if you're the distant relative of Vongola Primo without any prior mafia knowledge.
Despite the strong backing that Tsuna managed to acquire – his dad being the head of CEDEF, and he managed to gain the respect of Varia as well as Vongola Nono – that doesn't mean that the upper echelon of the family will give him an easy time.
It has been a thorn on their side for a while now. Those old people that likes to run their mouth without a care of the world and Tsuna who has to prove them that he's capable enough to be the next boss of Vongola in order to not cause an inner strive inside the family.
"I asked him to take more care of his health lately" continue Ryohei-senpai. "He looks tired'
Takeshi hummed at that, eye staring at the distance. "Must be nice if we could just defeat them or something"
Izuka snorted at that. "Not everything is like Varia" she said, a bit of mirth seeping on her tone.
"Well, I extremely understand why they're worried though" said the older teen. "These last few years, Vongola had a lot of power change" he continues. "From Xanxus coup, Nono's sons death, to Tsuna accession"
All the circumstances that led into Tsuna being the heir of Vongola. All the domino effect that manage to rope Tsuna and them into the family.
"They want to make sure Vongola still reign on top despite all of that" mumbled Izuka as the three of them stopped right in front of a building. It looks considerably fancier than all the other buildings inside this dingy road with large yard and marble statues. "To still have the status that the family had held for decades"
"And despite everything, we just got involved in this part of the world" said Takeshi, gripping his sword handle and effectively erasing the rain flame that has cloaked all of them beforehand.
From his side, Ryohei-senpai cracked his knuckles together. The white bandage he has on his hand is a stark contrast with his tanned skin and the dark suit all three of them are wearing.
Izuka let his flame flared and covered her own fist as she turned to stare the building in front of her.
"We'll show them"
1st of February 20XX
Vongola Decimo guardians were dispatched in France to eliminate the rising Mainard Family, a mafia family based on France that has been trying to trespass Vongola territory as well as gaining fame amongst France's underworld.
No survivor of the Mainard family manage to live through the night.
Izuka puked.
She banged her fist towards the wall she's leaning in. It cracked from the power she released from that simple gesture. Frustrated that despite all the things that she had dealt with, her mental state is still weak upon seeing dead bodies. Uncaring about the pain that erupted from the action as the girl continue to wipe her mouth with a handkerchief.
The tangy taste of the vomit is still around her mouth and she makes a mental note to drink some water to erase it.
'Ah' she thought, closing her eyes a bit. 'I will never get used of this'
It took her a couple of seconds to calm herself before she opens her eyes once again.
Straightening her posture, the girl tidies up her dishelved clothes a bit before starting to make her way out of the alley. It's dark and dirty. Certainly there has been some sort of crime being done at this very place.
It was also then, that she realized that there's a new presence right in front of the alley she throws up in.
"You done?" asked a familiar voice as she stepped out. Green eyes meeting different colored ones as the owner let out a smirk to bloom on his face. "That didn't take as long as the last time"
"Mukuro, hey" she greeted, throwing the handkerchief she's been using at the trash bin near her. "What are you doing here?"
"My mission is near here" he shrugged before handing her out a water bottle. "Sasagawa said to give this to you"
Accepting it, Izuka stared at the water bottle with some sort of suspicion. "You didn't put anything weird in it right?"
Mukuro gave her a close eyed smile. "Still haven't built your poison resistance Midoriya Izuka? How dissapointing"
She punched him lightly by the arm for that comment. "Not everyone can built a poison resistance in mere months like you and Kyoya-senpai" said Izuka, opening the bottle cap. She immediately gulped down the water. Thankfully, Mukuro did not put anything weird in it. The taste of the vomit effectively being erased from her mouth. "Where's Ryohei-senpai and Takeshi?" she asked before crumbling the bottle and throwing it towards the trash can.
"Car" replied the mist guardian. "Let's just go, I want to sleep"
Izuka chuckled at that. "What's this?" she started, a teasing tilt on her tone. "You usually don't want to meet up with us in the middle of a mission, what's up with the change of heart?"
Mukuro snorted at that. "There's only two option, meeting with the three of you or that damn Skylark" he replied dryly, mouth frowning in distaste.
"I thought you and Kyoya-senpai are the best of friends?"
"Rot in hell" snarked the male back. "I'll rather die"
"Tsuna will be disappointed if he hears you saying that" said Izuka, grinning as the two of them began walking towards the car that's here to take all of them to the airport.
"Sawada Tsunayoshi can be disappointed for all I care" said Mukuro without missing a bit. "I'll possess his body soon"
Izuka stared at him. "The way you say it sounds really wrong Mukuro"
"Oh? And why, dear Izuka?"
Their conversation came into a stop when the both of the arrived in front of the blank tinted car located by the end of the street. It was not hard to identify the subtle Vongola insignia by the car handle before she opened the door.
"Mukuro and Izuka is here!" cheered Takeshi from his spot. Ryohei-senpai who was sitting in front with the driver throws them a huge grin.
"How cramped" commented Mukuro dryly as the both of them climbed into the car.
"It's not cramped, it's because all of you are freakishly tall" said Izuka.
Takeshi laughed at that. "We're average height you know!"
"As if"
Soon, the car began driving away.
She, Takeshi, and Ryohei-senpai talked with each other animatedly while Mukuro chose to mostly keep to himself. The only time he would join the conversation is when he wants to offer some dry remark or some disturbing completely out of context yet still related to the topic of discussion.
It was during this, when Takeshi began questioning the mist guardian about his own mission in the country.
"So?" asked Takeshi as he leaned forward towards where Mukuro is sitting. With their arrangement, it made the swordsman completely squishing Izuka, resulting in a series of light punches to the arm by the girl. "What did Reborn asked you to do?"
Casting a glance towards the rain guardian, the older raised an eyebrow. "Kufufu… interested aren't you?" drawled out the male.
"Of course!" grinned Takeshi. "You always got the weirdest mission out of all of us!"
By the weirdest he means the gruesome ones or one that require a lot of manipulation and brainwashing one way or another. Or basically, what Mukuro really good at.
"Takeshi is just… anxious" piped up Izuka, explaining the reason why Takeshi began asking him about his mission. "Lately the pressure from the upper echelon towards Tsuna has been a bit… harsher than usual"
She immediately recognizes the subtle mist flame wrapping all of them. It's clear that Mukuro doesn't want the driver to hear anything about their current conversation.
Mukuro clicked his tongue, eyes narrowing in annoyance. "This is why I really hate those mafia guys" he said. "All they talked about is power, power, lineage, blood, a good fuck here and there"
"That sounds extremely vulgar!" Exclaimed Ryohei-senpai.
"It's the truth" answered Mukuro without missing a bit. "Pathetic old men who can't keep their dicks inside their pants who found a mere teen threatening, how worrisome considering they hold considerable power in this world"
Takeshi actually laughed at that. "That's why we're so busy lately" he said. "Reborn wants us to have more influence in underground"
"Ah, is the sun arcobaleno planning for a coup?" said Mukuro with a raised eyebrow. "How interesting"
"It's not a coup per se" interjected Izuka, hands fiddling with her own lightning guardian ring. "He wants to lessen the power the traditionalist holds over Vongola and basically strengthening Tsuna's future reign from now on"
The mist guardian hummed. "Just to make Tsunayoshi the Vongola Decimo" drawled out Mukuro, a smirk playing on his lips. "What a perfectionist"
"As expected of Reborn-san!" enthused our Ryohei-senpai. "It's extremely amazing of him to think about that kind of thing so soon!"
"Kufufu… it's time for those old coots to die anyway" said Mukuro, eyes full of amusement as he crossed his legs and leaned back on the car seat. "I want to see the chaos that will bring"
Izuka stared at him. "That's really mean"
"Yep" agreed on Takeshi with a thumbs up. "But I also want to see them gone already"
"That's extremely mean!"
She let out a chuckle at that. It's an open secret amongst the guardians that they prefer all the upper echelon of Vongola – the traditionalist ones – to just… die. At least, that way half of their problem will be gone.
Though, they also know that it's not as simple as killing them. Just like what Mukuro had said, they are men who had dedicated their life for Vongola. They hold a lot of power in the underground scene and if the tenth generation guardians just kills them without any further plan, Vongola will crumble.
They're too deep inside this mafia world to back out now. If they let Vongola crumble, it will be the end of them.
That's why Tsuna decided that he wants to strengthen Vongola. To bring Vongola into a new height in order to protect him and his loved ones.
And if it means by using the name Vongola and falling into a deeper pit in this world, Tsuna would still choose to do it.
How funny, thought Izuka, mirth dancing on her eyes. A girl who aspire to be a hero ends up becoming a part of the world strongest mafia family.
The world does work in a funny way.
A stack of files wrapped inside a manila folder was thrown into the wooden desk.
The man sitting behind it, who has his feet propped on top of the table, raised his eyebrows before turning his gaze towards the other person in the room. Onyx like eyes stared at silver ones with some sort of amusement evident in it.
"Welcome back, Hibari" said the man, one hand fiddling with the gun he's holding. "How's Japan?"
Hibari Kyoya, Vongola tenth generation cloud guardian merely grunted as a reply. "I did what you told" he said instead, eyes narrowing.
Putting down his feet, the man took the manila folder. Long fingers opening the manila folder with ease. "Is our intel correct?"
"He's not dead" informed Hibari, eyes narrowing. "Allmight failed to kill him for good"
"A shame" said the older of the two. "Considering he was half dead after that fight"
The teen nodded his head at that. "His sacrifice is useless in the end"
"Heh" chuckled the man, taking the folder out of the folder before skimmed passed it. "He's alive and try to make… a band of villains?"
Hibari grunted at that. "My men said that he plans to conquer the rest of the world underground scene after Japan"
The now adult Reborn eyes twitched at that information. "He wants to trespass our territory huh" he mumbled. "How funny"
There's no response from Hibari but the silent is enough. After all, there's nothing he hates more than disorder and someone disturbing the peace.
"Well" continue Reborn. "We should agree to that offer then"
At the other end of the desk, another manila folder from Japan's government and Japan's Hero Public Safety Commission could be seen already opened.
February 20th
Varia Mansion
"I've been telling you Xanxus-san!" said one Midoriya Izuka as she put the paperwork on the older man desk. "Tsuna need your sign or the operation won't-"
CRASH!
The girl sighed as she flared her flame in order to block the wine glass that one Varia boss has been throwing at her for the past few minutes. It's always been like this every time she visits the Varia mansion to do some errands.
Unfortunately, out of all the guardians, she's the one least likely to end up fighting with any Varia members or the least likely to get swept into whatever violence Varia is currently doing. That's why the one who always goes to the Varia mansion to run some errands is her.
One year ago, Tsuna and his guardians were called to finish their education in Italy. After all, Tsuna is in need of a more formal tutoring regarding being the next Vongola Decimo besides Reborn's own. Things like the family business, properties, and all things related that does not being covered under Reborn's tutelage.
As his guardians, it was only natural for her and the rest of the guardians to follow through.
Truthfully, it was hard for her to leave her mother. After all, her mom has risked everything just to move to Namimori all for Izuka. And now, she's already leaving the woman to go to Italy.
Midoriya Inko has been informed about the true nature of Vongola and Izuka's role as Tsuna's lightning guardian. Reborn – now an adult after the Arcobaleno battle – had been the one that did it.
The woman cried and for the first time ever since Izuka received the lightning guardian ring, she regrets her decision for a split second.
It took so long to convince her mother that she will be alright and there's no way out for her at this point. Her mother had asked her about being a hero and Izuka merely shrugged, already forgetting that notion.
Till this day, Midoriya Inko still harbor some sort of resentment towards Tsuna as well as Reborn.
Sighing, Izuka rubbed her temple as the Varia boss in front of her – more like a man child – throw another of his famous temper tantrum.
"Xanxus-san stop-" she yelped as another wine bottle was thrown into her. "Stop throwing things at me!"
Xanxus dark red eyes stared at her. "Trash" he finally spoke up gruffly. "I'm not going to do anything you told me"
"I'm not- I'm not telling you to do anything!" Izuka said, trying to tidy up some of the papers that has been scattered on the floor, credits to Xanxus messy temper. "But this is literally important Xanxus-san!"
"Don't care"
The lightning guardian is this close from berating the older man when the door of Varia's boss office opened. Standing there, is Squalo, the Varia rain guardian who was staring at them both with wide eyes.
"Haaa? The brat is here?" said the silver haired man as he stomped towards them. "The hell are you doing here?"
"Tsuna needs Xanxus-san to sign some documents" informed Izuka, huffing a bit as she nudged the paperwork closer towards said man. It earns her another wine bottle being thrown into her way. "Stop throwing things at me"
Squalo eyed the five or so wine bottles scattered across the floor. It's going to be hard to clean, not to mention all those wine stain on the carpet. Just thinking about it already makes the rain guardian's head ache.
"Both of you just stop" said Squalo, massaging his temple and effectively stopping the bickering that happens between Izuka and Xanxus. Or more like Izuka berating Xanxus who only responds with half hearted answer. "I can forgerhis signature" as he said that, he began gathering all the paperwork with one hand.
Izuka stared at him.
"That's literally a criminal act Squalo-san"
"What the fuck are you talking about? We're literally in the mafia"
Vongola Mansion
Tsuna is not naïve enough to think that he could ever change Vongola.
It's an organization that thrived in an age where many criminal families faltered. It's an organization with deeply rooted influence everywhere. It's a criminal family that had many resources and valuables scattered all across the globe.
It's a family with long history and longer list of criminal activities.
Vongola, the most influential mafia family out there.
He may be the strongest sky that Vongola ever see since primo time. He may be the student of an arcobaleno and the world's best hitman. He may have defeated enemies stronger than anyone had ever face. That he beat the boss of Vongola assassination group, literally went into the future, beat a psychotic tyrant, end a bloodbath with a long lost rival famiglia, and break the arcobaleno curse-
But not everything in this world can be changed with a simple fist fight.
If that's how the world works, his life would be far far simpler that it is now.
(Tsuna from 3 years ago would have never thought that he rather punches someone that talk some sense to someone)
The ninth may have accepted him as the heir. Varia too, despite everything, acknowledge his presence at least. But there others Vongola members besides them.
A civvie becoming the next Vongola Decimo?
What a fucking joke.
That's why he was brought here to Italy. To have the more traditional upbringing of a Vongola heir to appease the worries of other upper echelon Vongola members. To have the upbringing that the sons of Vongola Nono had. To have, the upbringing that the traditionalist – the upper echelon, the core of the family – wants.
Their worry regarding Tsuna taking up the position of Vongola Decimo is justified after all. Truthfully, if he were on their position, he would worry too.
Someone who doesn't know anything about mafia. A mere middle schooler who has no experience on fighting or leading a crime empire. Someone that does not grow up in the harsh reality of mafia and criminals.
Despite being a sky. Despite being the strongest sky that Vongola has ever seen – stronger than Primo, stronger than Nono, stronger than Xanxus. Despite having the blood of Vongola Primo as well as the 'Young Lion of Vongola'. Despite everything, Tsuna is just a kid that was thrown into this world head first.
He had no choice whatsoever. The only choice there is to take up the mantle or get killed by Reborn's bullet.
(He had heard the whispers. That his dad is still young and fertile enough to make another child if Tsuna ends up as a disappointment)
"Like hell I'm going to let them deny your position" said Reborn, already on his adult form and infinitely more terrifying than before. "You're my student and I never fail. You will become the Vongola Decimo. The Neo Vongola Primo"
It's a struggle to win in this game of politics. Only the strongest survives. Only the one who could conquer all will be the one who stays at the end.
And Tsuna-
Tsuna who wants to protect his loved ones have to be the one who stays on top.
They're already too deep in mafia world with no way out. He sometimes wonders if it's Reborn's plan from the start. To immediately drag him and his guardians deeply into mafia so that when they finally realize it, they're already in too deep.
Too entangled into this world with no other choice but to be a part of it.
Maybe that's why his intuition had always flared up during the beginnings of Reborn's teaching. To warn him about the possible danger that his tutor could bring him.
"Tenth?"
Snapping out of his thought, Tsuna turned his head towards the source of the voice. Hayato sat beside him, brows furrowed as he stared at Tsuna with what he could identify as worry.
"Ah, sorry" he mumbled out, a sheepish smile on his face. "Are you saying anything?"
"You're not touching your food, Tenth" pointed out Hayato, shifting his eyes towards Tsuna's still full plate. "Do you feel sick?"
"I can check on you if you do" Piped up Ryohei from his spot just besides Takeshi who's sitting beside him.
He and the rest of his guardians are in the middle of dinner. When they first arrived here in Italy, with Tsuna immediately being ushered with all the responsibilities of being a heir, as well as his guardians having tutoring from Nono's guardians, everyone had been so busy that they can't even meet each other that often.
Izuka-chan seems frustrated by that fact that she immediately demands every dinner to be eaten together if all of them are in the Vongola Mansion. At first, the one who bother to follow that demand is merely Tsuna, Ryohei, and sometimes Chrome. But knowing Izuka-chan – with all of her determination – she won't stop until she gets what she wants.
Tsuna still marvels the girl's ability to put both Hibari-senpai and Mukuro in a same room without them breaking into a violent fight. It certainly needs someone with special talent. Or some huge charms.
And so, inside the grand dining room of Vongola Mansion, all of the tenth generation guardians always gathers every night. At this point, it has become their thing. All the maids and butlers working here already know that every night, Tsuna and all his friends will be here.
Reborn even joins them sometimes. Taking delight in their uncomfortable expression due to his presence.
"Are you really okay, Tsuna?" asked Izuka-chan as she tilted her head, wide green eyes looking at him with worry. (Cutecutecute-)
Mukuro, from his spot just besides Izuka-chan chuckled as he leaned on one of his hands. "My my Sawada Tsunayoshi, you better be careful because I will try to possess you when you least expected it"
Izuka-chan jabbed him with her elbow.
"Uwah, that sounds really scary" voiced out Takeshi with an easygoing smile. "I thought you finally grow out of your possessing people phase, Mukuro"
A glare from the mist guardian was directed towards the still smiling rain guardian. "It's not a phase-"
"That's what every emo kid says" murmured Izuka-chan.
He could hear Chrome stifling her laugh at that answer and a dark aura immediately surrounds Mukuro as his different colored eyes glared at them.
"All of you shut up!" barked Hayato. "Tenth is not feeling well and we need to-"
"Ah, I'm actually feeling well" interjected Tsuna, stopping his right hand mand from his tirade. "I was just thinking about something earlier, don't worry about me" he said, trying to dismiss Hayato's worry.
Hayato doesn't look convinced by the slightest. "Tenth you don't have to lie!" he pleaded. "If you doesn't feel well I shall-"
"No, really Hayato" said Tsuna, trying to assure his worried storm guardian. "I'm perfectly fine"
Ryohei leaned forward, eyebrows quirking in contemplation. "You sure about that?" he asked. "Should I check you just in case?"
"I'm sure" he nodded his head. "Anyway, how's your day guys?"
It was Takeshi who answers his question first. "It was good" he grinned. "I had a tutoring session with Colonello and Lal-san even stopped by!"
"How nice…" murmured Chrome.
Tsuna agreed on that. Not long after breaking the arcobaleno curse, both Colonello-san and Lal-san got married. It was a small party with not many in attendance. Though, at the same time, it was one of the loveliest wedding that Tsuna had ever saw in his life.
Maybe, someday he will have one like that.
(Bright green eyes, freckles scattered across rosy cheeks like stars-)
"How boring" drawled out Mukuro who earned him another elbow from Izuka-chan.
"I think it's nice" piped up his lightning guardian. "I had an errand in Varia today and well… yeah…"
He can feel the wince on his own face as well as seeing Hayato grimace. Varia is far the hardest people to deal with. Well, besides the traditionalist members of Vongola. At least, Varia is the type of people who judge someone based on their strength. Not on their lineage or some other mafia rite of passage.
"Did you see Fran, Izuka-chan?" asked Chrome softly. "He's not answering any of my texts lately…"
"I did see him actually" answered Izuka-chan. "But I think Bel actually broke his phone and he still didn't get a new one? At least that's what I heard from Lussuria"
"Oi Mukuro, buy Fran a new phone" grumbled Hayato as he ate another piece of potato from his plate.
Mukuro snorted. "Said that to Xanxus, he's the kid's boss"
"And you're his Master or whatever" answered Hayato back.
"In another future" sneered Mukuro back.
Tsuna chuckles lightly at the interaction between his guardians before moving his eyes towards the lone figure sitting at the other end of the table. Kyoya-san is sitting there, silently eating his own food.
"Ah, Kyoya-san" said Tsuna. "You just got back from Japan right? How is it?"
Silver eyes slid into his before the teen shrugged and continue to eat his own food. Well, for someone who used to ignore everything besides fighting, that's a good improvement.
At least to him.
"You bastard answer the tenth when he's asking you!"
"Kufufu… I think that's too big of a demand for someone like him"
Ah, did Kyoya-san eye twitched?
He can only stare at the impending doom happening before him.
The massive mahogany door with intricate carvings led the way towards the main office of the mansion. Reborn said that this mansion is the one from Primo's time, but the main office itself was only made during the era of Terzo where the family had reached new height compared to before.
Beyond her, is the main office of Vongola. A place where the leader of the family use every day.
Leader of the family.
Not the heir.
Yet, Izuka knows that the one waiting for her beyond this door is not Nono or any of his guardians, but her sky and best friend. Tsuna.
She knocked the double door, not even waiting for a 'Come in' before she opens it.
Her eyes immediately landed on the figure sitting at the end of the room behind the heavy wooden desk that is now filled to the brim with paperworks. Behind him are a deep set of red curtains, covering the floor to ceiling window that gave the room the light this depressing place deeply needed.
Tsuna looked up from where he was writing something, dark bags under his eyes. Upon seeing her, it widened a bit. "Ah, Izuka-chan" he greeted, a warm smile appeared on his face.
Izuka ignored the loud sound of her own heart before she immediately marched straight towards the other teen. "When did you last sleep?" she asked, taking note of his exhausted face.
There are empty glasses of coffee strewn across the office as well as a still folded blanket placed on top of one of the sofa, clearly unused. She also took notes of the ink stain splattered across Tsuna's finger, a clear sign that the male didn't have a break yet.
Sometimes, he wonder if this workaholic person is the very same Tsuna she met all those years ago. A teen who barely did his homework now becomes someone who obsessively finished all of his work on time.
Maybe it's because the seal that has been repressing his flame was finally unlocked, or maybe it's merely because of the unspoken threat of Reborn's bullet. All in all, it was a bit hard to believe that turns out, Tsuna is someone that is workaholic.
"Uh" he started, eyes flicking towards his phone screen. "30 hours ago?"
She clicked her tongue, clearly not liking that answer. "That's not good, Tsuna"
"Yeah but Nono just sent me another batch…"
It's been three months since Nono and one Iemitsu Sawada decides to go to an impromptu vacation. At first, all of them has no problem with it. They all revel on the man lack of presence after all. That is, until they realized that if Nono went and go on a vacation, all of his as well as his guardians work will be befallen into them.
Her nightmare is now consisted of a stack of unfinished paperwork.
And Tsuna, being the next big bad boss, has the most work compared to all of them.
"Alright" said Izuka as she rolled up her sleeve. "Give me half of the new batch"
Tsuna stared at her, wide eyes. "Um, Izuka-chan?"
"I'm helping you" said the girl. "So that you could get your long awaited sleep"
"You really don't have to do that" answered Tsuna, though the bags under his eyes said otherwise. "I can finish all of this on my own"
"I'm your guardian" said Izuka, a smile already on her lips. "This is the least that I can do"
If the male is in another state of mind, he would try to vehemently deny that offer. He would rejected the offer continuously and will not allow the female to touch the stack of paperwork. Though, his current state of mind will never allow him to do that.
Maybe it's the lack of sleep finally catching up to him. Maybe it's the fact that it's been awhile since his last cup of coffee. Maybe it's because Izuka-chan looks so soft under his office light. That the girl feels warmer than usual and the smile she had is far far more enchanting than what he had seen before.
Cute, he thought almost absentmindedly, as he continue to stare at Izuka-chan. The girl raised an eyebrow at that. Pretty-
Okay, he needs to get his shit together.
In the end, Tsuna is a weak weak man and relents on the female demand.
"Okay" he finally lets out. "Let's do this together Izuka-chan"
The smile she lets out is blinding and he desperately needs to calm down his erratic heart.
Ah, he's a fool in love indeed.
It was hours later when Hayato burst into the room.
"Tenth-!" Only to be quieted down at the sight of Izuka pressing his finger on her lips.
The silver haired teen gaze trailed downwards to see Tsuna's sleeping form whose head is cushioned by Izuka's lap.
Izuka made a sign for the other teen to quiet down, something that Hayato immediately compy as he carted another batch of paperwork inside. The girl slowly put the papers on her hand on top of the table in front of her, not wanting to wake the sleeping male.
After all, this is the most peaceful he had seen Tsuna in a long time.
