Chapter 10: Growing Bonds
At Ashford Academy...
Rin helped Nunnally prepare for bed and stayed with her until she fell asleep.
The Rossellini girl wore a pale orange nightdress with white ruffles at the hem and at the breast area. It also had short folded sleeves and a folded collar. Her hair was styled in a bun.
The brunette then used her phone to give a message to Kaguya to tell her she was going to stay in Lelouch and Nunnally's place, so that her cousin will know where she was.
Rin carefully went off of Nunnally's bed and smiled at the sleeping girl before leaving her bedroom.
She heard the sound of typing and went to Lelouch's room.
There Rin saw Lelouch had changed into his sleeping clothes, a thin tank cyan top that clang to his thin body and matching silk pants.
The brunette smiled at him and set her uniform on top of his desk, ready for another school day tomorrow.
"Hey, Lelouch."Rin greeted.
"Hey, Rin."Lelouch replied as he placed away his laptop. "Are you feeling okay?"
Rin shook her head.
"A little bit, Lelouch."Rin declared as she looked down with a sad smile."All this time, I thought my father was dead. But now that I know his alive, this changes everything."
Lelouch stood up to comfort Rin in his arms.
"What do you intend to do?"Lelouch asked.
Rin rested on Lelouch's chest.
"I honestly don't know, Lelouch."Rin said sadly."If I reveal myself to Cornelia, she would immediately figure out that you and Nunnally are also survive. But my father, I can't just ignore him…"
Lelouch embraced Rin tightly.
"Don't worry, Rin."Lelouch vowed."I promise I will try to make the world better for you, Nunnally and all that are close to us. You will eventually see your father again as long as we stay together."
"But Lelouch, you are Zero. Japan's saviour."Rin commented."Should Nunnally know the truth?"
"Not yet. Nunnally maybe be young, but is not unintelligent."Lelouch responded."Far from it in fact. However, she is very naïve and far too trusting of our estranged family. For now, it is best not to tell her anything. I don't want anything bad to happen to you, Nunnally and anyone else we know."
Rin looked up at Lelouch and saw he was completely serious.
Though feeling troubled upon discovering her father's survival, a smile came to her lips.
"Thank you."Rin thanked gently.
Lelouch then brought out a small gift box to show it to Rin.
"Here."Lelouch said and placed the gift box in Rin's hands."I brought this for you."
Rin opened the little gift box, only for a gasp to escape her mouth.
Inside the gift box was a Fabergé essence yellow gold, diamond and blue sapphire surprise locket with blue lacquer and a diamond bail. Within the little egg was a striking heart shaped ceylon blue sapphire gem.
"You bought this for me, Lelouch?"Rin asked in amazement. "How? It must cost a fortune."
Lelouch smiled. "You could say that my gambling habits have paid off."
"You know this necklace reminds me of something."Rin giggled.
"Which is…"Lelouch started.
"Its colour reminds me of my mother's engagement ring and the colour of my eyes."Rin admitted gratefully.
Lelouch then picked up the necklace and placed it around Rin's neck.
His purple eyes then travelled to the small digital alarm clock on one of the upper shelves of his bookcase.
It was getting late and his lack of sleep was starting to get to him.
Lelouch turned to Rin and leaned forward, caressing her cheek, coaxing her chin to look up at him.
"Will you spend the night with me?"Lelouch asked.
Rin smiled shyly and blushed a bit while her hands wrapped around Lelouch's neck.
"Only if you say please."Rin said teasingly.
Lelouch smirked as his hands wrapped around the brunette's waist, bringing her body against his.
"Please."Lelouch replied smugly.
Rin nodded and climbed into the bed on the left side and smiled.
She covered herself with the sheets as Lelouch slid into bed next to her and snaked his arms around her.
The brunette giggled lightly when she felt Lelouch kiss her neck for a moment before the two of them drifted to sleep.
The Following Morning…
Rai leaned down against a tree in Ashford Academy, looking up the sky.
"Today I am also going to explore the concession with Kallen. It's a good weather."Rai thought with a smile."Bright sunlight, high blue sky. I like the sky."
A troubled look appeared on Rai's face.
"Love the sky?"Rai murmured."Since when and where did I love the sky? I can't remember where I am from and anything else? But was I in love with Japan's sky or Britannia's sky?"
The silver haired boy came out of his thoughts when he heard footsteps and saw Kallen approaching him.
"Again?"Kallen said.
"Hmm?"Rai spoke up.
"Again your thinking, Rai."Kallen responded.
"Oh, sorry."Rai apologised with a shy expression.
"I guess it's a good trend."Kallen admitted."If something comes to mind, it may trigger back memories."
"I hope it will do so."Rai commented.
"What were you thinking about?"Kallen questioned.
"I feel like I certainly know this place."Rai admitted."Also, the Japanese-"
Kallen suddenly let out a sigh and looked down with an accusatory gaze.
"What's wrong?"Rai asked."Did I say something bad?"
"This country here is really 'Japan'."Kallen stated."In addition, the people should be called 'Japanese' rather than 'Eleven'."
"That is so true, Kallen."Rai agreed. "I do understand somehow. I can't explain it. But I do understand what you want to say. Surely, in some of my lost memories, there maybe was things like Japanese and a country called Japan."
"I see."Kallen replied, looking at Rai."Maybe…you were born in Area 11?"
Rai rubbed the back of his neck as he thought about what Kallen just said.
"In the same way as Japan, I also know of Britannia sense."Rai admitted."It confuses me."
"Eleven and not Britannian?"Kallen presumed.
"More like both Eleven and Britannian."Rai stated.
"Eleven and also Britannain?"Kallen said with a hint of surprise.
Rai notice Kallen looking a bit pensive, but didn't know why it was strangely concerning him.
"But that said, I wonder if you didn't progressed a little?"Kallen responded.
"I wonder if that effect was also from hanging around?"Rai suggested.
"That's right."Kallen answered, agreeing with Rai."If you think a bit more, more may come to mind."
"I wonder if from now on, I can ask you?"Rai asked hopefully.
A gentle smile appeared on Kallen's calm beautiful face.
"Yes, of course."Kallen remarked."Is the Principal care in charge of you?"
Above the Rooftop…
Lelouch and Rin were having a lunch box lunch date on the rooftop of Ashford Academy.
Rin cooked up homemade maki which was seasoned and rolled in a way to create a heart shaped center.
The brunette's dish contained tamagoyaki which had ham in the center and was cut and placed to create a heart shape while in the bento box. The chicken kaarage and smiley face dango had cute little food picks to add to the charm of the bento. There were also little octopus shaped hot dogs while the rest of the side dishes were covered in vegetable flowers and there was a large sakura shaped carrot.
Though deep down, Rin was still bothered by learning her father's survival, but she wasn't going to let that spoil her moment with her boyfriend.
The brunette used her chopsticks to feed Lelouch a heart shaped tamagoyaki piece.
"Open wide, Lelouch."Rin instructed.
Lelouch opened his mouth as Rin placed the tamagoyaki ham in his mouth.
After chewing a bit and swallowing down the piece of food, a smile sprung on Lelouch's face.
"Hmm…not bad."Lelouch complemented.
"Thanks. I appreciate it."Rin remarked while blushing, gazing up towards the sky. "You know, Lelouch? Despite everything is going on, things look kind of peaceful in another view."
Lelouch looked up the sky.
"Yes. You're right."Lelouch agreed with a nod and looked at Rin. "Which reminds me. Why did you want to have lunch in the roof exactly? It's more than just spending time together alone, right?"
Rin takes a sip from her grape soda can before responding to her boyfriend.
"I wanted to talk to you about C.C."Rin admitted.
"C.C? Why?"Lelouch questioned and became concern. "Did she do something to you?"
Rin shook her head.
"No. It's just that…I don't trust her. I feel there's something off about her."Rin exclaimed. "She may have given you this Geass power, but I have a feeling she is hiding something from you."
"What makes you say that?"Lelouch asked.
"When I went to pick my history textbook in the kitchen, I heard her talking with someone inside your room."Rin admitted."But when I went inside your room, no one was with her. No phone or any gadget of sorts."
A frown appeared on Lelouch's face.
"That is weird."Lelouch replied."Now that I think about it, she doesn't tell me anything about her or what she wants in return when our contract is completed."
"Are you going to try and question her?"Rin assumed.
"I doubt she will tell me anything."Lelouch scoffed. "She is someone very difficult to figure out."
"In that case, if any information about Pizza Girl comes out, I'll make sure to tell you straight away."Rin stated with a confident smile. "I am your lady after all."
Lelouch smirked. "You mean Zero's Lady?"
"Same thing."Rin giggled.
The couple laughed lightly before they continued enjoying their lunch.
However, neither of them were completely unaware that C.C stood inside the door, listening to their conversation.
Outside...
Rai and Kallen walked around town together after finishing school for the day.
"The weather is good today."Kallen complemented.
"Now that you mention it, when I walk with you it's always sunny."Rai remarked and smiled at the red haired girl. "Maybe you are, the so called sunny woman?"
"Is that so?"Kallen said lightly. "You may be a sunny too."
"Or alternatively the rain man and rain woman who offset each other."Rai joked.
"Oh my."Kallen chuckled with a casual smile. "If that's so then we should hang around together as much as possible for the sake of everyone, huh?"
Rai smiled back at the red haired girl before looking at the area they were in.
Tokyo.
The former capital of Japan.
The people now lived in the concession ruled by Britannia.
The Japanese people were divided into the Ghetto Town of governance.
"There is a place I want to go."Rai admitted.
"Okay, I'll go with you."Kallen replied. "You may remember something."
Rai and Kallen headed out of the city and went to the Shinjuku Ghetto.
"Here?"Kallen asked.
Rai nodded. "This is the place."
From his position, the silver haired boy stared at the completely devastated region could be seen.
It was distinctly different from the Concession city which was a gorgeous place.
Group of buildings destroyed cruelly, the remains became a pile of rubble, exposed to wind and rain.
There were severed roads and the Highway's only piers remained collapsed.
But even with that, there were still people living among the debris as if only this area were left out of the history of civilisation.
"What is this scene?"Rai asked.
"The Ghetto."Kallen answered with a hint of sadness.
"Why is it so different?"Rai questioned.
"Because of Britannia."Kallen admitted. "Japan was defeated by Britannia, deprived of its name and became Area 11. The dependent territory of Britannia."
"That I know."Rai retorted. "It's not fair."
"It's all because of the Governors. The power of Britannia led Japan to a corner and named it 'Area 11.' They don't even tolerate autonomy. The ravages of war did not even give the opportunity of reconstruction."Kallen exclaimed and became a bit angry. "And in the only place where you could live for your own, was built as the castle rulers! That's this conclusion! Abundant engineering energy of solar panels. Clean water and sewage, gathering goods across the sea from all over the world. Just because of Britannia's people, they spent it all for Britannia to rule Japan!"
Rai looked at Kallen with a surprised expression.
From the usually docile Kallen, a roughly unimaginable rage was seen.
Why would a Britannian woman get angry of this?
It was probably because of the difference of Concession and the ghetto she speaks of.
"All for Sakuradite."Kallen sighed. "You know of Mountain Fuji? It may have an appearance of a mountain now. But the world is being lead in vain and occupation. Japan may be defeated, but its people is still here. Without being empowered, they just keep being alive. Easily dominated to the extent of that governance."
Kallen looked at Rai with a unhappy expression.
"Did you know, Rai?"Kallen said. "If an Japanese applies to the office, they can become an Honorary Britannian. Strange, isn't?"
"Like Suzaku?"Rai assumed.
"That is where the Britannians, decide the outcome of that person. As if you have any right to live."Kallen retorted and clenched her fist. "What the hell's the difference? What is the difference! And what about the people who live there and what about the inhabitants of this settlement! Elevens! Not Japanese and Britannian! Why should we be governed?"
Rai looked at Kallen quietly of her sudden anger due to her 'illness'.
However, the silver haired boy could understand her anger.
"Kallen…"Rai started.
"I'm sorry."Kallen apologised. "I've shown my bad side."
"No, I understand. Don't worry."Rai assured with a smile. "Different position, angry feelings to a close vulnerable person. That's what I think the real manifestation of tenderness."
"Oh, well. Just don't tell anyone about this."Kallen instructed. "Not even the Student Council."
"It's a secret."Rai responded.
Kallen smiled. "Thank you."
"Are you better now?"Rai questioned.
Just before Kallen could respond, the ground shook as dark red smoke was rising from several of the streets.
An explosion!
"We are the Order of the Black Knights!"A voice announced through the loudspeaker. "This is the flames of resistance opposing Britannia's rule! We will raise our fists against them! We will keep dying our fists with Britannia's blood until the day when the deep red flag of the rising sun flies again!"
Rai spotted forms of several Knightmare units as the smoke began to dissipate.
The silver haired boy and his companion saw Burais coming and the loudspeaker was held on one of them while there were people holding guns.
"What are they talking about?"Kallen scowled.
"Stand up, Japanese!"the voice insisted. "Don't be afraid of sacrifice! Attack your oppressors together with us, the Black Knights! Kill the Britannians!"
The group calling themselves the Black Knights were attacking a Britannian patrol unit, but they were clearly involving the nearby citizens as well.
Rubble from the ruins had collapsed and fallen onto the streets because of the explosion, crushing anybody who happened to be beneath it.
Rai gritted his teeth in anger seeing the Burais' being unmindful of the nearby citizens as they were sent flying/splattered from the machine's movements.
"Those guys aren't the Black Knights!"Kallen retorted. "The Black Knights are the allies of the weak! They wouldn't indiscriminately involve either Britannians or Japanese! They would never do that!"
"Really?"Rai asked.
"Yeah!"Kallen agreed with a frown. "Most likely, these people are a small organisation trying to take advantage of the fame of the Black Knights' activities. These guys probably haven't accomplished any real results themselves! They're just terrorists!"
Rai looked at Kallen with a hint of curiosity.
"You seem to know an awful lot."Rai complemented.
"I-I guess."Kallen said with a soft expression. "When you watch various news stations and listen to the degree of school that goes on in school, you come to know the fine details of these kinds of things."
Suddenly the terrorists' Burais were being attacked by Britannian Knightmares that appeared in the ghetto which made it appear that both the police and the army were operating here as partners against the enemy.
The purple military frames and the police's white frames were in the area, but the majority of them were the military ones.
"It's dangerous here."Rai warned. "We should go."
"You're right."Kallen agreed. "Let's go take refuge somewhere."
Rai and Kallen quickly went to take refuge as the Britannian army and terrorists began firing at each other.
There were citizens who were running about trying to escape that got caught in the encirclement as screams of agony and death were heard in the background.
Rai gasped at the sight as Kallen shot her eyes at the sight.
"That's just-Why?!"Kallen cried. "It's too cruel!"
"We have to get away now!"Rai insisted. "Or we'll get dragged in!"
At that moment, one of the Burais which had tried to escape from within the encirclement came crushing towards the two students.
A stray bullet blew up a nearby abandoned building while the Burai fell backwards as its head was shot off.
Rai grabbed Kallen in between in arms and turned his back towards the Burai and winced before he got nearly hit.
"Are you okay?!"Kallen asked in worry.
When Rai looked back, he immediately saw the turned-over body of the Burai before him and the cockpit's hatch was open.
A middle aged man who was piloting the Burai panicked as he quickly got out of the cockpit and then ran away as fast as he could while leaving it as it was.
Kallen looked at Rai in worry as she notice the back of his clothes were torn.
"Hey, are you alright?!"Kallen asked in fear. "You didn't get hurt anywhere, did you?!"
Rai smiled. "Yeah. I'm fine."
"That was really reckless."Kallen admitted.
"I'm glad you're safe."Rai remarked.
The Burai before the two students seemed to be still be capable of moving despite that it's head was damaged.
Kallen ran over to the Burai and peeked into the cockpit.
"He left the key inserted."Kallen declared.
"Can you move it?"Rai asked.
"Eh, no. That's impossible."Kallen lied innocently. "I don't think it's possible for me. With something like the cockpit of a Knightmare."
Rai overlooked in the cockpit and strangely seemed to understand it.
"The left and right control stick."Rai murmured. "The selected armed output gauge and the number of bullets remaining. Here we go."
Rai took a deep breath and surprisingly slid himself into the seat without hesitation.
"Wah!"Kallen shouted.
Rai pulled Kallen to get into the cockpit before she placed herself inside the narrow seat.
"The hatch doesn't close."Rai exclaimed. "We will go while remaining visible. Hold on tight."
Kallen builds up force in putting her arms around Rai's neck.
The first fire a slash harken into the wall close at hand, Rai rolled up at once rebuilding the posture.
The Sutherland that has been chasing the Burai was approaching from the front and rushed forward holding his lance.
However, the Sutherland missed like a stray dog swooping down to devour its pray.
Rai immediately made the burai knock down the lance with its stun tonfa.
The Sutherland tried to use the rifle while shaking, however Rai approached the enemy knightmare and drove the Burai's right hand towards it at the same time.
Rai looked at the Sutherland go up and crash down in shock.
"Alright."Rai murmured in relief.
"Rai, who in the world are you?"Kallen asked with an awe expression.
"That one has collapsed now."Rai stated. "We need to slip through before more come."
"Yeah."Rai responded. "That's right."
However, Rai's plan didn't work since the Britannian Army surrounded the siege with the density of the force high.
Then two Sutherlands became aware of the movement of Rai's burai and blocked it's retreat.
"Damn!"Rai cursed.
"It's no use!"Kallen gasped.
The two Sutherlands prepare to fire at Rai's burai, only for them to explode by a few approaching Burais.
But, the new army appeared not only around the Britannian Army, also among the ruins of the soil unceremoniously destroying the Burai terrorists.
"They're…"Rai started.
"It's the Order of the Black Knights!"Kallen remarked. "Only they the authentic Order of the Black Knights! There's no doubt!"
In the endless words of Kallen, Burais that were apparently connected to the Order of the Black Knights enclosed from all sides of them riding the Burai.
Kallen suddenly twists the body of the Burai to open its hatch.
"Hey…"Rai started.
The few Burais lowered their guns and then made the way clear for the two students to leave the area.
"They seem to understand that we are not terrorists."Kallen commented.
Rai and Kallen safely run away from the ghettos and escape from the jaws of death.
However, Rai had heard that such things were an everyday occurrence in the ghettos.
There are various organisations all over Japan doing terrorism and resistance movements in order to oppose Britannia.
On the other hand, the Black Knights seemed to have a different objective from all others.
"That's more than enough for today I think."Kallen admitted. "Let's head back."
"Okay."Rai agreed.
After abandoning the Burai near the settlement and passing the crowd of curious eyed people collecting there, Rai and Kallen returned home.
In Ashford Academy…
Nunnally and Alice were in the clubhouse, playing a guess the animal card game together.
Alice was reading the cards and Nunnally had to guess which animal she was talking about.
"Help. A fox is hunting me. I mainly feed on grass."Alice read. "I can jump far thanks to my strong legs. I also have long ears. Now hurry up and guess what I am."
Nunnally thought for a moment before an answer came into her mind.
"A rabbit?"Nunnally suggested.
"That's correct, Nunnally."Alice chuckled with a smile. "Rabbits usually live for about 9-12 years and form a fur coat a few days after their birth."
"You know the reason Rin doesn't like being called Rini because in Japanese culture, Rini means 'Little bunny'."Nunnally giggled. "When we were younger, a couple of boys were making fun of Rin's name and she ended up beating them up, so they would leave her alone."
Alice let out a laugh from the story that Nunnally told her.
"It sounded you and your older brother overall had lots of fun with Rin and Suzaku."Alice assumed.
Nunnally gave Alice a gentle smile.
"Yes. We did, Alice."Nunnally replied and her expression saddened a bit. "Though sometimes, I wish I can walk and see things like they do."
Alice was silent for a moment before replying to Nunnally.
"Nunnally, I need to tell you something."Alice declared. "But I hope you don't take this the wrong way."
"You can tell me anything, Alice."Nunnally assured. "You're my best friend."
"Nunnally, I'm actually a member of the Britannian Special Honorary Foreign Legion."Alice declared. "It's an Irregular team that is currently led by Colonel Madd."
"You work for the Britannian Military?"Nunnally suggested.
"I was actually sent to Ashford Academy on a mission to spy on Milly Ashford and her family under the guise of a new transfer student."Alice exclaimed. "In other words, I know who you and Lelouch are really."
Nunnally became shocked at what Alice just told her.
"You know that Lelouch and I are members of the royal family, Alice?"Nunnally said in disbelief.
Alice stood up from her seat to go over to Nunnally.
"I've known ever since I moved to Ashford Academy."Alice admitted before bending down to hold Nunnally's hands. "I know you feel completely upset. But you have to know that I treasure our friendship more than anything, Nunnally. I want to protect you no matter because…you remind me so much of my late little sister."
"You had a sister?"Nunnally questioned.
Alice nodded with a weak smile on her face.
"Yes, but she died in a fire many years ago."Alice stated. "I entirely blamed myself for not being able to save her and the effects of the tragedy still haunt me in life."
Nunnally was silent, not knowing what to say.
"If you know the real identities of me and my big brother, does that mean also-"Nunnally started.
"Yes, Nunnally."Alice responded. "The Emperor knows the two of you are alive after the end of the war in Japan."
A horrified look appeared on Nunnally's face.
This was going to be a big problem.
Later that Night…
Rai carefully followed the map that he received from Kallen and looked at the place he was in just now.
The entire area was such in a destroyed ruins that there was no chance of crime as people never came here.
The silver haired boy went out into the plaza surrounded by rubble and saw a single girl waiting for him at a spot that couldn't be seen from the rest of the surroundings.
Rai's eyes widen to see the person waiting was Kallen, but looked completely different.
Kallen looked completely well instead of looking weak and feeble while her red hair was spiked up. The clothes she wore was a vest-shorts combination that was brown and dark red.
"You came."Kallen said. "I believe you would."
"Kallen…"Rai started.
Kallen approached Rai before she spun around and showed her appearance to him.
"What do you think?"Kallen asked with a smile. "Compared to how I am at school, I mean. Are you surprised?"
Rai's cheeks dusted pink as he felt a gap in the speech and conduct between this Kallen and the one who she 'pretended to be' at school.
However, he was also bewildered by her energetic appearance with her changed hairstyle and clothes which probably meant this was her true self.
"A little."Rai answered shyly.
"Follow me."Kallen instructed. "This way."
Kallen went towards a staircase that had started to get buried in rubble as Rai followed after her.
The stairs led to an underground shopping center.
There were no one here, but the silver haired boy could feel the place's former liveliness from the signs and posters of the wrecked shops here.
The shopping center was unexpectedly vast...and lonely.
The light of Kallen's flashlight was lost in the vast space as it was illuminated the path ahead of them.
Kallen looked at Rai as she lead them to their destination.
"I have a favor to ask you."Kallen stated. "I want you to fight with us."
"Fight?"Rai said in confusion.
"Yes. To fight against Britannia."Kallen replied with a hard glare. "You also understand that the state of the current Japan is wrong, don't you?"
"I..."Rai started.
"Rai, I think that you're probably Japanese."Kallen admitted. "No, I am sure of it. This is what I believe after having watched you. The real you is definitely closer to us Japanese than those Britannians. Besides, you should remember the anger you felt at the current state of the Ghettos. Right?"
"Yeah."Rai agreed. "However, what about the terrorists from last time? Weren't they trying to fight against Britannia as you say?"
"That's exactly why!"Kallen responded firmly. "We have to concentrate our power, not on such indiscriminate attacks, but on a more just goal!"
Rai didn't reply not knowing what to say as Kallen's expression softened a bit.
"We can do it."Kallen declared. "We have a leader who can accomplish this."
"Leader?"Rai repeated.
"Yes. I called you here so that you could meet him."Kallen stated. "Please. Fight with us for the sake of Japan."
Rai brought his attention away from Kallen when he saw light from at the other end of the underground tunnel and spotted several men and women standing there."
"We're arrived."Kallen announced.
Suddenly, lights lit up the whole surroundings and everything became bright.
With the light sources arranged so that they were standing before a light-up background, it felt like the psychological effect was also been taken into account when they set this up.
All the members were dressed in a black themed uniforms, which gave them a sense of unity.
One girl was dressed in stylish purple dress while the person in the middle wore a black mask.
Kallen went up to the masked man.
"I brought you the man I told you about."Kallen said.
"Good work, Kallen."Zero commented.
Kallen looked at Rai.
"Rai, let me introduce you. This person is Zero."Kallen exclaimed. "The leader of us. The Order of the Black Knights."
"The Black Knights."Rai murmured.
"It's an honour to meet you, Rai."Zero declared. "I've heard a lot about you from Kallen. And I also had her examine you a little. You're so talented, yet everything about you is wrapped up in mystery."
"Rai, I truly wanted for you to join the Black Knights without fail."Kallen stated.
"Kallen, you're a member of the Black Knights?"Rai said in surprise.
"Yes. I'm Kallen Kozuki. A Japanese. Kallen Stadtfeld is merely an alias for a temporary appearance."Kallen exclaimed and glanced at Zero. "Zero, I recommend this person for admission into the Black Knights."
"Very well. You have my consent."Zero stated. "I'll follow your wishes in this matter. However, the rest depends upon this person's choice."
Zero looked at Rai, who caught his breath.
"Let me tell you that, if you were to refuse, we'll have to take measure in order to protect our secret."Zero warned.
"You mean seal my mouth, right?"Rai questioned.
"It wasn't my intention to suggest that."Zero commented.
Rai fell silent at Zero's respond.
"Please fight with us, Rai."Kallen insisted.
Rai looked at Kallen, finding it still surprising that she was a member of the Black Knights and didn't seem weak or frail as he thought.
Then there was Zero, who was both mysterious and suspicious, but Kallen seemed to have absolute faith in him.
As Kallen said, the silver haired boy couldn't deny the possibility that he could be Japanese and then it was true that this war/battle was very meaningful for him.
It was one of many possibilities, but perhaps by plunging himself into a new situation, it may give him an opportunity to recover his memories.
"Alright."Rai answered with a confident tone. "I'll join the Black Knights."
Kallen smiled. "Thank you, Rai."
"Great choice."Zero remarked. "Welcome, Rai. Welcome to the Black Knights."
A smile appeared on Rin's face, seeing that another school friend of hers joined the fight against Britannia.
"One at a time."Rin thought confidently. "And hopefully the others will understand too."
