Chapter 12: The Knight of Nine
In Pendragon…
Emperor Charles zi Britannia sat on his throne as he listened to the report of his loyal knight and the Knight of One, Bismarck Waldstein.
"Your Majesty, there has been riots breaking out from each cities in Area 12 since the rise of the Black Knights."Bismarck reported."The military and police force are trying to get to their senses. Not only that, some of the Areas are started to rise up against your rule."
"Such pathetic people they are."Emperor Charles commented."They will realise that those, who point their swords against our mighty Britannia will bring judgement as a warning. What of the Glinda Knights?"
"Princess Marrybell is trying to solve the situation with her kind words and understanding."Bismarck exclaimed."However, most of them don't feel like trusting her smiling face. There are no further reports from Her Highness."
"I see."Emperor Charles replied before a cruel glare sprung on his face."Marrybell is but a foolish girl that clearly doesn't understand the meaning of being royalty."
"Should the Knights of the Round come to her aid?"Bismarck assumed.
"No. The EU is still a threat and I would need them to achieve my goal."Emperor Charles exclaimed."Though, the situation in Area 11 is another matter following the defeat of Cornelia's Royal Guard by these terrorists. Fortunately, I have chosen to send someone to aid her on this little problem."
"Who, Your Majesty?"Bismarck asked.
Emperor Charles signals his guards to open the doors, revealing a female figure in a Knight of the Round uniform in the entrance.
The female figure walked forward and bowed before the 98th Emperor of Britannia.
"Nonette Enneagram, Knight of Nine, at your service."Nonette declared.
"The Knight of Nine."Bismarck said.
"Yes. She will assist Cornelia in the Area 11 campaign."Emperor Charles responded and glanced at Nonette. "Knight of Nine, I want you to go to Area 11 and help clear the mess that my daughter is having difficulty getting rid of."
A mischievous smirk grew on Nonette's face.
"As you wish, Your Majesty."Nonette answered.
At Ashford Academy's Clubhouse...
Rin hummed the song known as 'Butterfly' from Smile as she prepared tea and baked a sweet treat in the kitchen for Lelouch and Nunnally to enjoy.
Once she finished preparing, the brunette came out of the kitchen and brought a tray that contained a tea kettle with three cups and a plate of Tiramisu dessert cake on it to present it to the vi Britannia siblings.
"Here you go, Lelouch and Nunna."Rin remarked kindly. "Fresh homemade tea and a delicious Italian dessert called Tiramisu which means 'pick me up' or 'cheer me up'."
Lelouch and Nunnally smiled as Rin cut a slice of cake for each of them.
"Thanks, Rin."Lelouch thanked. "You've done it again."
Rin poured tea in her boyfriend's cup and his younger sister's before pouring some in her own cup.
Nunnally carefully picked her cup of tea and took a sip from it causing a smile to sprung on her face.
"I smell citrus."Nunnally remarked. "This is Darjeeling."
"Yes, Nunnally."Rin agreed and smiled a bit. "I've made Darjeeling tea since it was the tea beverage you liked to drink the most when you and Lelouch were still living in Aries Villa."
Nunnally became saddened inside a bit at the mention of their old home back in Pendragon.
"Everything was so different back then."Lelouch complemented.
Lelouch and Rin started eating their slices of Tiramisu as Nunnally looked down with a worried expression.
The former prince notice something was bothering his younger sister.
"What's wrong, Nunnally?"Lelouch asked.
"Lelouch, Rin, there's something I have to tell you."Nunnally admitted as her hands began to shiver a bit as she slowly placed down her teacup. "I don't know how else to say it, but…"
Both Lelouch and Rin became concerned at the way how scared Nunnally looked.
"You can tell me and Lelouch, Nunna."Rin assured kindly. "You can trust us."
Nunnally was silent for a bit before bringing herself the courage to speak to her older brother and his girlfriend.
"It's about Alice."Nunnally stated. "She said she's a spy that was send to spy on Milly's family and that she knows that our real identities are Lelouch and Nunnally vi Britannia."
Shocked looks grew on Rin and Lelouch's faces.
"Wait, what?!"Rin said in disbelief. "Alice is a spy?!"
"Did she hurt you?!"Lelouch demanded. "If she did, I'll-"
Nunnally immediately shook her head.
"No, big brother. She didn't."Nunnally replied, not wanting her brother and friend to think her best friend was a bad person. "Alice apologised for being dishonest with me and said she no longer wanted to work for Britannia."
This caused both Lelouch and Rin to calm down at the crippled girl's respond.
"Alright, Nunnally."Lelouch replied and thought. "If Alice is a soldier that worked for Britannia, I'll need to ask her questions. She might know something I don't even know."
"Alice didn't only tell me that."Nunnally stated. "She also said that…Father knows we're alive."
Stunned looks grew on Lelouch and Rin's faces.
"Nunna, did you just say the Emperor knows that the three of us are alive?"Rin questioned.
"Yes."Nunnally responded, her voice mixed with fear and worry.
Lelouch sat back on his chair, completely lost in his thoughts.
"The Emperor knows that me and Nunnally are alive? This isn't good!"Lelouch thought with a frustrated look. "If the two of us are spotted within Ashford Academy by Britannian forces in the future, it is all over for us! We'll be back as being used as political tools! And the Ashfords can't do nothing to prevent that! But, also the Black Knights will collapse without Zero! What to do?!"
The former 11th prince of Britannia came out of his thoughts, forcing a smile on his face.
"It will be alright, Nunnally."Lelouch assured as he held Nunnally's hand to comfort her. "I promise I won't let anything happen to you."
"Same goes with me."Rin remarked with a wink. "You guys are my best friends and I'll be standing by to protect you both from anything."
"Okay."Nunnally answered, feeling happy. "Thank you, Lelouch and Rin. You two are the best."
After finishing their treats and tucking Nunnally to bed, Lelouch returned to his room with Rin at his side.
The former prince of Britannia took off his blazer, revealing his white shirt and placed it on his chair.
Lelouch then sat down on his bed with a look that expressed his concern and anger.
"This changes everything."Lelouch retorted.
"I know, Lelouch."Rin agreed with a nod. "First, Euphemia discovers that we are alive in the pool resort and that my father is still alive. Now we learn Alice is a Britannian spy and the Emperor knows we are still in one piece."
A scowl escaped from Lelouch's face.
"This doesn't make sense."Lelouch retorted. "If that man knows we are alive this whole time, why hasn't he announced it to the Royal family or send Britannian Forces to Ashford Academy? What's his game?"
Rin sat down next to Lelouch and gave a kiss on his cheek to comfort him.
"I don't know, Lelouch."Rin answered. "But I guess from now own, we just have to be careful when we go out in public. One wrong and it is all over for us. Especially, for Zero and the Black Knights."
Lelouch looked at his girlfriend as a slight smile grew on his face.
"You are right as always, Rin."Lelouch complemented.
Rin shook her head.
"I'm not always right, Lelouch."Rin responded with a small frown."I just know what is right and what is wrong. But I'm not perfect. I do mistakes like every other person in the world does."
"Like the time, you threw mud on Carine's face for insulting Nunnally in a party back in Pendragon?"Lelouch assumed smugly.
Rin sweat dropped at Lelouch's reply.
"Don't remind me."Rin commented as she lightly face palmed."But then again, Carine is somewhat of a spoiled brat even though she has the exact same age as Nunna."
"Yes. Carine and Nunnally are the same age."Lelouch chuckled. "But completely different girls."
The smile on Lelouch's face vanished when he notice Rin looking down with her eyes half closed and a frown on her face.
"What?"Lelouch asked in concern. "What is it?"
Rin looked at her boyfriend.
"Lelouch. I've been thinking about it for quite a while."Rin stated."What do I mean to you? I am many things, but what am I exactly you?"
Lelouch wrapped his arms around Rin's waist to bring her close to him as the two of them looked at each other.
Violet purple and sapphire blue orbs stared into one another as the owners of those coloured eyes stood as if in a trance.
"You are my angel and the only woman that'll ever love in my life."Lelouch declared. "Without your guidance, I would've likely have done more terrible things and be as bad as that man."
"And what I've been called in the battlefield?"Rin giggled."You are Zero. But I should have a codename as well. How about calling me 'Shade' when I wear a mask?"
"Perfect."Lelouch murmured.
Rin smiled and closed her eyes when Lelouch gave her a kiss on the forehead.
Lelouch lowered his nose into Rin's hair, only to notice the scent of honey and cinnamon that rose off of it as his hands wrapped around her waist to embrace her.
The brunette then sat on Lelouch's lap before cubing his face and gently plant her lips onto his.
Lelouch returned the kiss as his hands moved to remove Rin's blazer, making it drop on the floor.
To feel the warmth of her body close to him was very intoxicating.
Rin blushed completely when she felt Lelouch's hands remove her tie before travelling inside her shirt, making her break away from their passionate kiss.
"Lelouch."Rin spoke up.
"Hmm?"Lelouch said.
"We got a job to do, remember?"Rin reminded with a shy expression."No time for any distractions yet."
Lelouch smirked mischievously at his girlfriend.
"I know that."Lelouch assured."But couldn't I at least have a hint? Just a small one."
Lelouch stood up from the bed and went in front of Rin, to kiss her and catch her off guard.
When the brunette realised what was happening, she tried to push him away.
"Lelouch"Rin groaned."Not here."
Rin moaned as Lelouch kissed on her neck.
"I love you, Rin."Lelouch muttered against Rin's neck, which made her shudder."I love you too much."
"I…I-"Rin started.
Rin tried to speak, but she was quickly silenced by Lelouch's kissing.
Her knees buckled and she fell against the bed while Lelouch went on top of her.
A hot blush appeared on Rin's face as Lelouch brought his handsome face close to hers to continue kissing her.
Lelouch's light purple eyes opened to stare at Rin's deep blue eyes.
"I want you, Rin."Lelouch whispered in a purring tone."I want you all to myself. I want to give you everything that you didn't know you want. I want so desperately to~"
Rin gasped softly as she gripped the bed sheets tightly when she felt Lelouch rock himself against her.
Lelouch smirked as his hands went over to Rin's shirt and started to undo it's buttons.
The blush that was on Rin's face grew more when she realised what was going to happen.
She did Lelouch love a lot.
Not only because he was a childhood friend or a former Prince of Britannia.
Because he was an intelligent, caring and unbelievably handsome young man.
But to give herself to him immediately wasn't in her vocabulary.
Rin quickly regained herself and placed her hands on Lelouch's chest to stop him from going any further.
"Lelouch. Not right now."Rin admitted with a shy smile."We are in the middle of fighting Britannia. Perhaps we should continue this another time when all of this is over."
Lelouch raised an eyebrow while a mischievous smirk appeared on his face at his girlfriend's respond.
"Oh?"Lelouch said with a smug look."You're not that kind of girl?"
Rin looked away as she went on her knees to button her shirt and a blush crept up her face.
"I never said that."Rin pouted."Don't make fun of me."
Lelouch lifted up Rin's chin, making her look at him.
"I would never do that."Lelouch assured with a smile. "But we won't do it, if you want to."
Rin simply cleared her throat though the blush on her face went down only a bit.
"It's not that, Lelouch. I mean we've dating for a few months and our relationship was mostly with secret lunchtime dates and late-night telephone chats."Rin exclaimed. "We really haven't actually gone an actual date due to school work and our roles in the Black Knights. That is why we should our relationship on hold."
Lelouch became surprised at Rin's respond.
"Why?"Lelouch asked. "Don't you want us to be free, to…live our life in the open?"
"I do."Rin responded and sighed deeply. "But I don't want to be humiliated and attacked. That would probably happen if our relationship was discovered in the academy ground and possibly by the royal family. I will lose. I'm half-Japanese. I'm of noble blood, but not entirely accepted by my grandfather and the rest of my father's family because of my family background. Everyone would prefer a Britannian prince having a full-blooded Britannian woman for a lover and future spouse."
"But isn't that why we are fighting Britannia, Rin?"Lelouch asked. "To make a world a better place so that we would have a future and the same goes for everyone close to us? Regardless, the nationality and family backgrounds' we have?"
"Yes. But I also have a history and people wouldn't want a past that hung about."Rin responded. "Especially, them having to tell me 'My great-great-grandmother was the mistress of your great-great-great-grandfather. I guess that is the only thing you two have in common."
Lelouch looked down, not knowing what to say.
He loved Rin and no other woman could replace her.
But he didn't expect that their relationship would have so many problems.
"You're right."Lelouch agreed. "Being together would cause problems and I don't want that for you, but that won't stop me from loving you. You are in my heart, Rin."
"And you mean the whole world to me, Lelouch."Rin whispered.
Lelouch and Rin closed their eyes before they shared another passionate yet small kiss with each other.
After that, Rin left Ashford Academy to head back to the Sumeragi Residence.
Unknown to the brunette, C.C had been watching her from the window of the kitchen.
"Looks like Lelouch and Istvan's daughter understands the consequences of their relationships."C.C informed.
C.C then got a respond.
"Oh, please. Surely, you were aware of this from the moment you met her, Marianne."C.C complemented. "All things considered, are you surprised if Lelouch learned this was the right woman for him? Besides they knew each other for a good couple years, so it wasn't like they suddenly got passionate. It was building for some time."
At the Government Bureau…
Cornelia stood with Guilford, Darlton and the Glaston Knights at the landing platform as a plane landing in front of them.
The ramp of the plane lowered down and Nonette walked out.
"Nonette Enneagram, it's nice to see you again."Cornelia declared.
"As do I, Nellie, I must say it's great to come to your aide to bring Prince Clovis' murder to justice."Nonette remarked.
Cornelia sweat dropped at the Knight of Nine calling her by the nickname she used when they attended the Britannian Military School together.
"Yes."Cornelia responded. "Shall we head inside and have some tea?"
Nonette chuckled a bit.
"Sure."Nonette answered. "I could use a drink."
In Ashford Academy…
Lelouch, Rin, Suzaku and their friends were all in the middle of taking part in their History Class.
"Damascus san Britannia was the second son of Emperor Othello tu Britannia and was third in the line of succession to the British throne behind his father and his elder brother, Prince Julian."Mrs Smith explained. "From 1777 to 1791, Damascus served in the Royal Navy, until the unexpected death of his elder brother in early 1791 put him directly in line for the throne. He became the 94th Emperor of Britannia and reigned for almost 50 years."
Rin looked into her textbook called 'the Monarchs of Britannia' and was on the chapter that talked about Damascus san Britannia.
"He travelled throughout Britannia performing ceremonial public duties and represented his homeland on visits abroad. His tours of North America in 1760 and of the Indian subcontinent in 1775 proved popular successes, but despite public approval, his reputation as a playboy prince soured his relationship with his mother, Lady Charlotte san Britannia."Mrs Smith continued. "Despite having many lovers, the most famous of Emperor Damascus' mistresses that was renowned for her beauty and kindness was Duchess Adelaide von Loewenherz. Who can tell me something about her?"
Rin raised up her hand causing Mrs Smith to look at her.
"Miss Rossellini?"Mrs Smith said.
Rin stood up to her seat to talk about her ancestor.
"Duchess Adelaide von Loewenherz grew up in the world where women were seen as only ever having one vocation and purpose, marriage. Young women were instructed to oblige their husbands by being gentle, selfless, and entirely acquiescent."Rin exclaimed in a firm tone. "While Adelaide was a devoted daughter who sought to please her parents, they raised their daughter with loving care. The young Adelaide was encouraged to be her own person, something that she would bring with her into adulthood. As a duchess, she completely flouted tradition, created her fashions, and even befriended those were seen as unpopular. Needless to say, Adelaide was very much a free spirit, and none could stop her."
"Thank you."Mrs Smith responded. "You can sit down."
Rin sat back on her seat as Shirley looked at her with a surprised expression.
When the students' finished their class lessons, they all went to have lunch.
"Hey, Rin."Shirley spoke up.
Rin ate a piece of her rice ball before looking at the auburn haired girl.
"Yes, Shirley?"Rin said.
"How come you know so much about the Monarchs of Britannia?"Shirley asked. "Not many of girls here don't know that much about them."
"When I still lived back in the homeland, my father hired the best tutors to teach me lessons on etiquette, matters and Britannian society."Rin exclaimed with a small smile. "He said it was to help me become a successful lady in the future."
"There are rumours going around school saying you are linked to the royal family."Nina commented.
Rin sweat dropped.
"I'm not really related to the royal family, Nina."Rin exclaimed with a nervous smile. "But, um…"
Milly gives Rin a mischievous smirk.
"In a way you are, Rin."Milly sneered.
This caused Rin's cheeks to redden.
"Milly!"Rin scowled.
Shirley and Nina glanced at each other, sharing a confused expression.
At Area 11's Government Bureau…
Jeremiah went to speak to Euphemia in her office.
The former margrave of the Pure Bloods bowed at the pink haired princess.
"Your Highness."Jeremiah said with a bow.
"Hello, Lord Jeremiah."Euphemia greeted. "What can I do for you?"
"Princess Euphemia. I've been wanting to ask you."Jeremiah responded. "It will sound strange, but please forgive me for saying it."
Euphemia gives Jeremiah a smile.
"It's alright, Lord Jeremiah."Euphemia assured. "You can tell me."
Jeremiah was silent for a moment before speaking.
"Princess Euphemia. As we all know, we were told Prince Lelouch and Princess Nunnally both died during the invasion of Japan eight years ago."Jeremiah commented. "But is it a possibility that Prince Lelouch and Princess Nunnally could still be alive?"
A wave of panic began to grow inside Euphemia, but kept wearing a calm face.
"What gives you the idea that my favourite half-siblings are alive, Lord Jeremiah?"Euphemia asked.
"I went to Ashford Academy with Miss Nu to try and find a link to Zero."Jeremiah declared. "Unfortunately, Lord Ashford had refused to help us. But on our way out of the academy, I happen to have spot a crippled girl that appeared to be blind and had the exact same hair colour as the Emperor during his youth. It must've been my imagination, but that female student seems to resemble a lot the daughter of…Lady Marianne."
Euphemia's panic began to grow even more.
"Oh no! Lord Jeremiah saw Nunnally!"Euphemia thought, trying to figure out what to do. "This is bad! I can't say anything! I promised Lelouch and Rini that I wouldn't say a word to Cornelia or anyone! Father would put all three of them in danger! What can I do?"
The 3rd Princess of Britannia came out of her thoughts.
"Lord Jeremiah. If what you say is true, then how come Lelouch and Nunnally didn't mention straight away that they were alive in the first place when Britannia invaded Japan?"Euphemia asked in a firm yet calm tone. "What was their purpose for not doing so?"
"Because no one came to their aide when their mother, Lady Marianne was tragically killed in Aries Villa. She was the Knight of Six, but many of the other Imperial Consorts hated her because she was a commoner."Jeremiah stated and frowned a bit. "And the Emperor send Prince Lelouch and Princess Nunnally here to Area 11 to be used as political tools. It is obvious that losing their mother had brought their lives nothing, but misery. But then again…"
Euphemia was silent after hearing Jeremiah's statement.
"Lord Jeremiah, I'm about to tell you something."Euphemia declared. "But you need to swear that you'll never tell anyone. Not even the Viceroy, my sister."
"Whatever you have to say, will not leave this room, Your Majesty."Jeremiah stated with a bow. "You have my word."
Euphemia took a deep breath before she opened her mouth to speak.
"You see…"Euphemia started.
In Ashford Academy…
Sayoko was escorting Nunnally to the academy, where the middle class students were.
"Ms. Sayoko, I can handle it from here."Nunnally assured.
"Yes ma'am."Sayoko answered. "Have a safe trip, milady."
Sayoko walked away to head back to the clubhouse before Nunnally heard a rude female voice speaking up.
"Have a safe trip, milady~', she says."Ekaterina mocked cruelly. "For a freeloader, huh?"
Nunnally felt butterflies at her stomach, knowing behind her was the noble yet spoiled and rude girl from her class known as Ekaterina Sforza and two of her friends.
"Miss Ekaterina, was it?"Nunnally asked gently. "If you don't mind, I'll be taking my leave."
Nunnally attended to move away, but Ekaterina caught her wheelchair.
"Don't get cocky because the headmaster of Ashford is taking you under his wing!"Ekaterina scowled. "I'm the eldest daughter of the Sforza Household! You're probably the descendant of some low-level nobility, aren't you?!"
Alice was walking nearby by, only to spot Ekaterina and her two friends that were harassing Nunnally.
"I understand that you come from a distinguished household."Nunnally assured calmly. "But that is no concern to me. Please excuse me."
"Hold it!"Ekaterina growled in hatred.
Ekaterina pulled the wheelchair causing Nunnally to drop off and hit the ground in the process.
An angry look grew on Alice's face at the awful sight as a red geass symbol activated in her forehead.
The next thing that happened, showed Alice standing behind Nunnally while holding the skirts of the girls that were harassing her.
"Oh dear."Alice sneered with a mischievous grin. "Didn't your mummies and daddies tell any of you that you can't walk around in your undies?"
Ekaterina and her two friends screamed in terror and ran away, when they realised, they weren't wearing their skirts anymore.
"Y-you'll pay for this!"Ekaterina shouted angrily.
"Yeah, yeah."Alice muttered and rolled her eyes. "Whatever."
Alice simply threw the skirts on the floor with a smug look on her face before bringing her attention on Nunnally and helping her best friend up.
"Are you okay, Nunnally?"Alice asked.
"Y-Yes, I am."Nunnally responded gently. "Thank you, Alice. But what in the world did you do to them?"
"I just scared them off with a little trick of mine."Alice answered with a hint of amusement and winked. "Don't worry. I bet you won't see them again after this. Let's head to class."
Ekaterina and her two friends ran off to the girls bathroom, only to find Rin in front of them.
"I told you before to stay away from Nunnally, Ekaterina."Rin reminded.
"I don't orders from you, half-Eleven pest."Ekaterina scowled. "Now get out of our way."
Rin's hand clenched into a fist, not knowing that her left eye began to glow for a moment with a cyan bird-like symbol.
"Okay."Rin scowled. "You've asked for it."
The three girls that were bullying Nunnally were then shown knocked out cold and pinned in the girls' bathroom wall by yellow tape and dummies on their mouth.
Rin patted away the dust on her hands and left the girls' bathroom.
"Don't say I didn't warn you."Rin retorted bluntly.
Nonette, the Knight of Nine had come to Area 11 to aid Cornelia against Zero and the Black Knights! How will our heroes handle her? See you all in the next chapter!
