The One Who Came Back

Chapter 45: Creation

"...so, the Warrior Takemikazuchi became King after saving the princess from the clutches of the villain, his squire Cocytus became the Master of Arms, and at some point, he started teaching the Warrior's Art to his godchildren, the king's children."

" How. Beautiful. An. Adventure. With. My. Creator. And. Having. Godchildren. Wonderful. But. I'm. Sad. Because. It. Will. Never. Happen."

" Oh, my friend, don't be like that. Knowing what could have been doesn't diminish the life you have. You must see the happiness you already possess and the opportunities that will come."

" Yes. Opportunities. That. Will. Come. Thank. You. Mr. Wild."

" Come whenever you want."

After weeks of living on the sixth floor, these visits had become frequent after an encounter in the Arena where Cocytus was training some lizardmen, Climb, and a blue-haired human.

The campaign in the Draconic Kingdom had been relatively quick, as they only needed to drive out the beastman army, and they didn't need to hold back. Now, undead creatures were guarding the borders of the buffer zone, which was the new territory of the Sorcerer Kingdom and provided access to the sea.

TW continued to stroll through the grassy area as he always did. Occasionally, a stone or a branch would fly close to his head, but nothing bothered him until he felt a mysterious presence.

'As I suspected, this person comes regularly. Let's see who it is,' thought TW.

Following the edge of the forest and circling a large rock, TW hid, and his pursuer continued until they realized they had lost him.

"Hello! Can I help you?" TW said to the person.

The one who turned around in surprise was a butler in a tuxedo and a lucha libre-style mask.

"Oh! Hello! I... I, I didn't uff! mean to disturb," the person replied with a muffled voice from the mask.

"Of course not, it's not a bother at all. But I noticed you've been looking for me more than once," TW said, perhaps a bit timidly.

"The residents of the Great Tomb don't seem to appreciate my presence."

"I didn't know what to say. I don't know why I'm coming here."

"Come on, start from the beginning. What happened?"

"U-Umm, I saw uff! I saw you walking in the hallway with Ainz-Sama uff! and the Guardians, weeks ago, and then at the bar. Since then, I've had a feeling, I can't say what it is, uuff!"

"I think you could take off the mask, so we can talk better."

The butler then removed the mask, surprising TW.

"Hi, I'm Oni," the woman in the butler suit introduced herself.

Oni had fair skin and long white hair. Upon closer inspection, her body was quite muscular, which had led TW to mistake her for a man at first, but her voice and face were gentle and delicate.

"Ah! Hi Oni, I'm Wild, nice to see you... WATCH OUT!!" Wild shouted as he saw a large rock falling towards them.

Before he could do anything, it hit them. Or at least, that's what he thought. The rock was hovering in the air, held by Oni, who now wore a gladiator-style armor with asymmetrical shoulder pauldrons, a partial breastplate, armored forearm guards, heavy metal boots with knee and elbow guards, a tiger-skin loincloth around her waist, and a spiked iron mace hanging at her side. Her skin had turned red, and she sported two horns protruding from her long white hair.

"I told you to be careful; we just want him to leave," a voice whispered from the forest, so quietly that no one heard it.

"M-Me sorry, I-I-I was throwing when B-B-Bird get in front," another childish voice whispered.

"HEY! Sorry, Mr. Wild, we're practicing, and I think some rocks got away," Aura's enthusiastic voice said.

"It was nothing, just an accident, right?! Luckily, Miss Oni was here," TW replied.

"Are you one of Éclair's butlers?" Mare asked with a shaky voice.

"Yes, I am, on my day off, Lord Mare. Good day to you too, Lady Aura."

"What are you doing here? But I'm glad you came," Aura continued, with a hint of relief. After all, if it weren't for Oni, the twins in their attempt to annoy TW could have killed him.

"I came to see Mr. Wild, Lady Aura. Something about him seems to attract my attention. It's like I remember something forgotten but still don't know what it is. I... I don't know what it is," Oni confessed, dropping to her knees as her armor disappeared.

"Excuse me, Oni, but I think it might be my aura. It makes people who don't have a hostile attitude towards me open up. It's as if they sense that I'm not dangerous and relax. I can't control it, and I know it doesn't work if the person doesn't like me before they see me," TW explained to Oni, but it seemed like he was talking to Mare and Aura.

"You're her creation, aren't you, Oni? A creation of the Supreme Being Totally Wild," Aura said, sensing a connection between the two.

"Yes, I am, but I don't remember him. I know my master's name, but I don't remember his face. He left, he abandoned me, and I don't remember him..." Oni then openly cried.

The twins were hit by Oni's suffering. It was the same anguish they felt when thinking about Bukubukuchagama, but they remembered her face and the time they spent together. Oni must have been suffering much more.

"Oni, your... creator didn't abandon you. He left because he had to. He loved you and cherished the short time you had together," TW held her head against his shoulder, trying to comfort her.

"Your name, Mr. Wild, is the same as his. Are you my master?"

"No... I'm not your master, but I can be your friend if you'd like."

"I'd like that. I feel comfortable with you. Can I visit you on my days off?"

"Whenever you want, Oni. Come on, let me wipe that face," TW said gently to the woman who was taller than him.

"Alright, I have to go now. My shift is about to start. Will I see you in a few days, Mr. Wild?"

"Yes, Oni, definitely!" TW waved with joy.

"You created her, didn't you?" Mare asked.

"Yes, Lord Mare."

"So, you're her master!" Mare said, strangely not stuttering when talking to TW.

"No, Lord Mare, I'm no longer that person. I've never been a master, just like the others who created everyone in Nazarick. I had a purpose. Lady Bukubukuchagama, for example, didn't want servants; in the end, she wanted children."

"Children! Mare! We're Bukubukuchagama's children!"

"Yes, nee-san, but what about you?" Mare changed his way of speaking. "What did you want if not a servant?"

"I... I wanted... wanted... a companion," TW answered, lowering his head in embarrassment.

...

A Few Days Later

Lupusregina walked through the corridors of Nazarick, her attention had been scattered lately, unable to bother Enri, she had more free time than she wanted. So, she found herself wandering down the corridor of the sixth floor, and right in front of her was the one who had been haunting her thoughts.

"Wiiiild!" she growled behind TW.

"Yes, Satan! Oh, it's you, Lupus, everything alright?"

"Don't call me Lupus."

"Sorry, I thought we were friends enough for me to call you that."

"What makes you think we're friends? You cursed me and made me look like a fool in front of my superiors," Lupus didn't bother hiding her anger.

"But it was fun, wasn't it?! Come on, if it were someone else, you'd be dying of laughter."

"But it wasn't someone else; it was me."

"Then it wasn't fun. Making others suffer just for your own amusement isn't cool, hmmm, what a different idea."

"Stop mocking me!"

"I've already apologized to you before I even cursed you. What do you expect from me, Lupus?"

"I... I don't know; my head has been strange since I met you. I hate you for what you did, but I hate you more for what you are."

"What am I? An ancient Supreme Being? A human?"

"No, it's how you are; you've only been here for a few months, and the maids don't even notice your presence anymore. The demons completely ignore you. Don't blame it on your aura; I know it's not just that."

"Maybe it's the way I talk, hahaha! Well, sorry, what can I do? Sometimes people just want a bit of cordiality, friendliness..."

"I'm friendly," mumbled the maid.

"Ah! No, it's not about me, is it?"

"I don't know what you mean."

"Could it be about a certain girl..."

"STOP TALKING ABOUT THAT!"

"Alright, maybe you'd like to talk about something else, then."

"You met my creator, didn't you?"

"The Beast King? Yes, I did. Come with me; let's walk. I got to know him well in the short time I was in the guild and a bit before. We were friends, more so than with the others, actually."

"Even more than with Lord Ainz?"

"Lord Ainz was a friend and even a mentor, but as the guild leader, it was hard for me to interact directly with him. So, yes, I was closer to the Beast King. It was in one of our conversations that he told me what his creation would be called – you."

"Why did he make me like this?"

"Like what?"

"Like this, why a werewolf, why a cleric, why..."

"Sadistic?"

"Yes."

"Well, at the time, all we wanted was defense, strength, to maximize what we could have. A sadistic personality was perhaps the best option for dealing with enemies."

"So, we're just tools," Lupus concluded.

"No, not at all. Each of us put a lot of ourselves into our creations. We didn't expect that a world change would affect you all so much. Do you remember playing so many pranks in Yggdrasil?"

"No, I don't remember doing any of that. I only had fun when the invasion happened; the rest of the time... I remember very little."

"A lot has changed since we changed worlds; everything has been amplified. Your simplest Fireball is often more powerful than most. Your own nature may have been amplified."

"So, I shouldn't be like this?"

"I don't know; that's something you should decide. Are you happy?"

"I was happy until I saw you in the village."

"I see. Maybe you want something different, not that I suggest abandoning everything that makes you who you are, but change can be good sometimes. I think discovering these limits can be a new challenge."

"And what if I don't want to change?"

"Then you'll continue to be yourself, either way, even if you change, you'll still be you."

"Do you always speak in riddles?"

"It's a way to seem intelligent, hehehe! Well, since we're here, could you do me a favor?"

"It seems like everything is always planned with you."

"Maybe! Actually, I was going to ask the twins for help, but could you do me the favor of training with that person?" TW pointed to the butler in the middle of the arena.

"Is that Éclair's butler?!"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Because you'll owe me a favor."

"Look, I won't hold back, so if she dies, she dies."

"Wait, no..."

TW didn't even get to finish the sentence, and Lupusregina had already launched herself towards the butler. She attempted to strike him in the chest with her fist, or at least that's what she thought, but instead, her fist was grabbed, and with a spin, she was thrown to the ground. Well, not exactly to the ground; she avoided the blow with a roll using her free hand.

"Wow, what a trick-su!"

The butler assumed a strange stance; instead of having clenched fists to strike, she kept her hands open. Lupus began another charge, but before reaching her target, she jumped over him, landing just behind him.

To her surprise, once again, the butler did something odd; she leaned forward, almost making a bridge, grabbed her by the waist, and pulled her forward like an inverted Suplex. She wedged Lupus's head between her legs and jumped to perform a move known as the Piledriver. Before hitting the ground, Lupus released herself using only the strength of her arms, struck the butler, and sent her flying.

Oni rolled away and when she stood up, she was wearing her battle armor.

"You have equipment! Let's see if it's any good."

With one strike, Oni's mace shattered, but then what was left in her hand disappeared, and in its place, a large, heavy cleaver with metal rings along its length appeared. Lupus tried to keep her distance, using spins and rolls to avoid Oni's attacks. She had her blade grabbed and broken by Oni's hand.

Oni stepped back and in her hands now was a long staff with a blade at the end. She once again attempted to fend off Lupus, but the maid was faster, much faster. Her eyes gleamed as she struck Oni in the chest, cutting the staff in half and breaking her armor.

"ONI!" TW shouted.

Lupusregina approached the fallen butler, and she saw the despair on TW's face; he was afraid for her.

"No, please," the human whispered.

A sadistic smile appeared larger than ever on the maid's face. She imagined how much TW would suffer from a loss like this. She lifted her staff and struck, hitting the ground next to Oni's head.

"Hello, girl, I'm Lupusregina. Oops! Let me help heal that, Minor Cure!"

Light enveloped the butler, closing the wound on her chest and then disappeared.

"T-Thank you, Lady Lupusregina. I'm Oni, at your service..."

"No, you're not. What is she, Wild?"

"She's like Sebas Tian."

"A monk?"

"No, a War Butler, like the Pleiades. The idea was to create another defense team; she uses grappling instead of punches."

"But she's pretty weak."

"Well, she has half your strength; her creator didn't have time to level her up further."

"Ah, I see it now. Her creator... so, can training make her level up?"

"Maybe; she wants to be able to do more for the Tomb."

"For the Tomb, I see. Well, now I have to go."

"Thank you for your help, Lupus. You know, you should go visit Carne; it's been a while since you were last there, hasn't it?"

"Yes, it's been a while. Thanks for reminding me, Wild. See you later, Oni-su."

Author's note

Here I introduced a new OC character, Oni.

I based his human appearance on Noi from the anime Dorohedoro, who hasn't seen it, LOOK AT IT!

His appearance has already been transformed. I took it from the Web Comic Oni GF, I hope you enjoyed it
