Chapter 10. Warpath v Megoliath.

He was protecting them. It spoke volumes about the character of the Winter Knight, when he proclaimed that they were under his protection, but it forced him to fight the powerful looking enemy. A person who allied themselves with Grimm, was by definition, an enemy.

He was definitely out of WRPA's ability to fight, so they had to believe that the Legend's semblance had the raw power to stop him, he had to or they were all doomed.

"Keep on the move and in its blind spots." Weiss ordered, as the Legend shouts at them. The Heiress forms a glyph under herself and launches herself back a few dozen yards.

Ruby becomes a streak of red rose petals across the snow as she dashes to their left.

Luna sprints to their right, as that is where her speeder is, Pyrrha also dashes to the right as well, but her angle is more diagonal, she was willing to put herself closer to the beast because she knew that she could dodge it if it came after her.

The grimm decided to charge in her direction. She could see that it wasn't focused on her.

Unfortunately for the blonde of the group, the Megoliath was attracted to Luna the most. She had the most negative emotions coming from her. Fortunately, the huntress's first decision had save her life. She had immediately hopped on one of the remaining speeders and was circling the beast. She was the slowest member of the group without a semblance to make up for it and the most scared of fighting this particular Grimm.

She knew that if she stayed on foot it would catch and crush her.

"Luna, move faster!" Pyrrha shouted at Luna. She dashed for the grimm and sliced at its legs as it passed her. Unfortunately, the hide of the Megoliath is much thicker than most other grimm because of its age. The champion's weapon, even though quite sharp, barely made cuts in the grimm's hide. Because of that, it ignored her as it focused on its target. As a xipho, the blade itself wasn't large enough to do actual damage even if it could have cut deeper.

The Megoliath did not like that it was here. The human had approached its herd, and for some reason, had the mark of an elder grimm on it. The human had been compelled follow him away from its herd and obey his commands. And now it was again compelled to go after the smaller humans. Only this human prey it was after was too nimble for it to catch without the assistance of the lesser, but faster grimm. Even the slowest one had a contraption that made the human faster than the others.

While the tall one in red danced around under it and viciously slashed at its legs. It felt that minuscule cuts from the red one but it was nothing more than superficial damage.

When it would try to stomp her, but she would simply dodge. Even though it had several eyes, she would weave in and out of its blind spots by constantly going under it, so it decided to ignore her.

The short red one with a weapon larger than itself, was keeping herself at a distance and when the weapon boomed, it could actually feel it. While that proved it was powerful, but it wasn't powerful enough that the mammoth grimm had to worry about it. If the grimm had been a lesser species or had just crawled out of a pool, the weapon would have killed it, but as with grimm, it constantly grew stronger and tougher with age.

A spike of panicked emotions made it look over to see the one mostly in white, with black sleeved covering her arms and legs, rushing towards the other one of the metal mounts. The first one that was zipping around was an irritation. There would be no second one.

Weiss pulls out her scroll and attempts calls Winter when the Megoliath turns away from her.

"Winter!—" but her scroll just displays the words "NO SIGNAL" across her sister's icon.

Weiss internally cursed, they were well out of range of the CCT towers and that meant that she would need to plug into her speeder in order to call for help. The Heiress had hoped that the transmitter of the BARC would have stayed connected with her scroll so that a situation like this wouldn't happen, but it didn't. She used a glyph to propel herself towards the last BARC. It had an integrated amplifier that was needed for the scrolls to have signal out in the middle of nowhere. Hopefully it would get a signal through the storm.

Unfortunately for her, a boulder as large as the speeder landed on top of her BARC snow speeder, smashing it.

Weiss looked back agape, to see the Megoliath pulled up another 8 foot boulder halfway sunk in the earth with its tusks and trunk. This time it hurls the bowler at the Luna, who is driving the other speeder.

The chances of the boulder actually hitting the Arc were slim, but it was still terrifying to have a large boulder towards her. She swerved far out of the way.

Weiss looks around at the landscape. Trying to glean any advantages from the terrain.

At first glance, it appears flat because of the snow, but with the snow being pulled away from the blizzard, which didn't make any sense, it revealed that the land was rocky and not actually flat.

The only drastic changes in the landscape was several miles to the north, where there were hills and mountains, which they couldn't utilize for high ground. And to their south, was a ravine, with the ground elevating right before the drop. It still left the area they were fighting on, an open plain.

She rushes over to the Spartan. "We can't get a signal out to Atlas in this storm. Looks like we have to kill this Grimm before we any help can get an out a call for help." She hands her an earpiece

"That will be more difficult than you anticipate." The spartan replied putting in the earpiece.

The Arc skidded her speeder to a stop right next to them. "What's the plan?"

Weiss shouts, "RUBY!"

At her call, the reaper disengages from the mammoth with a burst of speed, slides to a stop in front of Weiss. "You shouted?" she asks playfully while shouldering Crescent Rose.

Weiss didn't have the time to be annoyed at Ruby's childishness. She hands the scythe wielder an earpiece and quickly explains their situation.

She forms a glyph under them, except for Luna, giving each of them an agility boost.

They separate as the grimm charges at them.

Weiss calls out over their ear coms, "Arc, I need you to call Winter, you have the last BARC that has a built-in transmitter. We have Glace here so we need an evacuation."

"A call for help?! That's it? No plan to kill it?!" The blonde member of the team ((Luna)) questioned,

"I'm still working on one."

"All of you need to remember, Headmaster Ozpin ordered that our survival take priority over heroically killing grimm." Pyrrha.

"Weiss is right for once, if this Grimm is old, then it will avoid any obvious traps that we try to force it into." Ruby. "It feels weird to say that out loud."

"Gotcha. Let me know when you come up with one." Luna continues to circle grimm, none of the weapons she could hurt it, but she could keep it distracted and away from her teammates by being a nuisance to it.

"The rest of you, activate your scroll's distress signal and connect it to Luna's BARC so that Winter can monitor and track us. When the storm breaks, the reinforcements she will send will be able to be able to track us."

"Good enough for now Ice Queen." Ruby replied to herself as she takes a few shots at the mammoth's head, only for the rounds to bound off its thick skull mask.

They continued to shoot, stab, and slice it all the while circling and dodging it.

The Grimm was surprisingly fast for one its size, but it wasn't going to catch them. They were one of the most agile teams formed at Beacon.

"Do you have a plan to kill it?" Weiss heard in her earpiece.

"Maybe, can anyone see Glace?" The team leader responded.

"He is currently combating the stranger who appeared, and he appears quite enraged at the moment." Pyrrha calls out. They could see clouds of snow being kicked up as well as an occasional flare of fire a couple hundred yards away. "It also seems that the Grimm is corralling us away from him."

"If we can kill the Grimm quickly we can help him." Luna. She was so tempted to drive over to help him, but she knew that she couldn't abandon her team.

Luna continues to make wide circles around the grimm so she can make the call to their Atleasan specialist 'guardian' for their mission.

"Specialist Winter! We are under attack! By an unknown assailant working with Grimm!" The only response she gets back is static.

Luna curses, the area they were in was a dead zone. She contacted her team leader to let her know how dire their situation was.

The huntresses didn't dare think that they would be able to assist the Winter Knight as they still didn't have a plan to kill the Megoliath.

They went through potential ideas throughs their coms, the best of which involved luring the grimm off the cliff.

"Luna and I will try and to make an opening, wherever you see a weak point, take the shot." Weiss

"The neck and eyes are the best place to attack to kill or blind it, but a beast it knows it's own vulnerabilities and is guarding them it as well as a hard place for us to try and hit it with a lethal blow." Pyrrha

"Great. We are facing a one of the most dangerous Grimm on the face of Remnant, in the middle of a blizzard, and now contesting with an unknown hostile giant. Great. Hard for this to get much worse." Luna complained on the open channel as she sped past Ruby

"No Luna! Don't jinx it!" Ruby cried.

Luna turned her speeder, drifting it and fired the twin machine guns on her speeder at the mammoth's side, while the bullets didn't penetrate, they did seem to irritate the grimm. She gunned it forwards and drew her axe.

The mammoth grimm saw her coming, it slapped its trunk on the ground, violently shook its head, using its tusks and trunk to send a shower of snow and dirt into the air, creating a cloud that obscured her vision.

Luna pulled away sharply, not willing to risk getting trampled by the grimm.

She needed to get closer than her teammates to it in order to get a good cut in, but the Grimm was not giving her any free hits.

If she wanted to get a hit in with her axe, she would have to keep making maneuvers like that to compensate for the lack of length of her weapon. The fangirl eyes Stalhrim disapprovingly. "Now I see why Pyrrha and Ruby have polearms as an option in their weapons. I'm modifying you when we get back."

That is when the huntresses heard howling. It was concerning in many ways because that meant that more grimm had been attracted to them.

However, when they looked towards the source of the howling and saw that Glace was slaughtering Gigawolves and cryokinetically threw ice boulders at the green coated giant.

With the threat of other grimm joining the first one, they danced around the mammoth grimm as it wildly charged about.

The grimm seemed tireless as it charged them again and again. It never waited for them to get close stayed still,

Ruby sees that her AP rounds weren't bounding off the grimm's hide, but they weren't penetrating deep enough to do any damage other than damage the hide and chip bone.

"Weiss! I have an idea." The scythe wielder's voice crackled over the coms.

"I will take any suggestions right now" Weiss. As she launched a fireball at the grimm's face. It exploded on contact with the grimm's face. The smoke clear, revealing a burnt area of impact on the bone mask as well as black ooze flowing out of one of its several eyeholes. It trumpeted and started thrashing around as it charged.

They kept circling the rampaging grimm.

"Obviously we need heavier firepower that we can't get, but can your glyphs enhance bullets?"

"Of course they can… Oh. Ruby you're a genius!" Weiss exclaimed .

Ruby fully transforms Crescent Rose and impales the blade into the ground right next to her bossy team leader. "You know it Ice Queen. Now it's supercharging time!"

This time the Ice Queen smiles at the sassy reaper and creates a glyph infused with earth dust in front of them. The Heiress would preferably use ice, but the environment that this Grimm lived in led her to conclude that this particular element may not be as effective against this grimm.

Ruby fires through the glyph, round hits the mammoth much more force, now being heavier because of the extra coating of dust on it.

The round itself digs into the hide of the Grimm only a , but the dust coating the bullet activates on contact and explodes, instantly turning into stone spine that digs into the side of the Megoliath.

The Grimm wails as the stone growth penetrates deeper into its body.

"It's working!"

The Grimm dug it's tusks into the earth again and pulled up another boulder.

Weiss conjured another glyph to shield them. However, the boulder broke right through the glyph.

Ruby tackled her leader in trail rose petals, pushing them both out of the way.

Weiss quickly put another speed glyph under both of them as them scrambled to their feet.

They shot forwards with their semblances to gain distance before it turned around. Rose and Schnee now had a plan on how they could work together.

"Ma'am, you have to understand, we literally can't fly in there right now." Specialist Marrow Amin answered as he sweated. He was having an impossible time trying to explain his reasoning to his commanding officer. Rank aside, even though he was a member of the ACE Ops, newly at that, Winter Schnee still scared him.

"Maybe you don't understand, Specialist, you have orders to assist and evac the team of student huntress team WRPA who have active their distress beacons. You WILL fly in there." A very cross Lieutenant Colonel Winter Schnee ordered.

"Sorry Marrow, let me handle this." Clover stepped up, Marrow gladly moved aside from the screen. "I'm sorry Winter but it is literally not possible at this moment,"

"What do you mean?"

"This is not normal weather we are dealing with. Just, look at the radar and align it with the dimensions of the storm and you will see why we can't fly in there."

Winter looks to the second screen and examines the scan, her eyes widen in shock, "That's not possible…"

"We'd be flying blind into that."

At the very heart of the storm, the radar showed hundreds of specs on it, meaning that, either there were hundreds of grimm in the storm or the storm was picking up debris and keeping it in the air. It didn't matter how fortunate they were or how good their pilot is, it would be suicide to fly into that storm.

The Mistral Champion was starting to get frustrated as she danced around the grimm legs for the twentieth time.

While she was unrivaled in the field of combat, but right now as, she found that she couldn't actually harm this grimm.

That was until she saw out of the corner of her eye, a brown glyph appear followed by the bang of a heavy sniper. The Champion saw the round impact the side of the grimm, and turn into a stone spike jutting out of the side of the grimm, causing it to wail in pain.

This gave the red haired champion an idea. She dove out from underneath the Grimm as it moved away trying to angered by the sniper. She pulled out a magazine for Milo with the stone on it, identifying it as earth dust rounds. Using her polarity, she broke the casings of a couple of the bullets and poured the dust payload in her hand. She then coats the edges of her xipho with the dust before running to catch back up with the grimm, changing Miló into its javelin form as she runs. When the champion catches up with the mammoth, she jumps high and thrusts her spear into its underbelly.

Miló punctures through the hide of the grimm, causing the dust activate, stone grew on the inside and pushed out of the wound, causing the grimm an immense amount of pain. However, that also got the attention of the grimm. It actually LEAPED forwards, and swiftly turned its head at her, swing its trunk. She barely recovered from seeing a mammoth Jump, in time to react. The champion tries to flip over the trunk and tusks. She dodges the first swing of tusks and trunk, but the as it whips its head back again, she isn't able to dodge it again.

The trunk glances off her shield on her back, but the force sends her flying back dozens of yards.

Pyrrha tries to rotate her body so do a landing slide, but can't get solid footing. Her feet slip on the loose rocks and tumbles, but quickly recovers in a crouched position. She grimaces as the rocks tear the sleeves of her winter suit.

A moment later an Arc comes speeding past, with her outstretched hand. Pyrrha grabs it and pulls herself up behind her partner.

"Does the champion need a lift?" The blonde joked.

The spartan muttered a quick "thanks" as she changed Milo to its carbine form. As they gain some distance from the grimm, the spartan jumps off and step took a kneeling firing position. She patiently waited and timed her shots, as her targets were the eyes of the grimm. With the time and distance she was given to aim, her accuracy was deadly.

Luna sped up and circled the grimm, attracting its attention again.

WRPA had found a way to really hurt it, and they were going to exploit the hell out of it.

With all the ice that had been pulled from the air, the storm broke and the sky beginning to clear.

Glace was on his knees, he was in so much pain he couldn't move.

Miraculously his backpack landed in front of him. He didn't even question it as he dug through the back with his good arm until his fingers closed around what he needed, a rather bulky syringe, "Don't think there could be a better time to use this than now." The needle pops out and he stabs it into his leg and pushes down the plunger. After a few seconds, he stands up again, this time all his pain is gone, instead it felt like he was walking on clouds, he giggled a little. "Wait, how much was I supposed to give myself." He stumbled, but his time for a different reason, and ends up back on his knees, the loud trumpet of the Megoliath brought him back.

Too light, his head was too floaty. Damn it. He made a fist and punched himself in the side. His body spiked in pain just for a moment. The rush of adrenaline and pain clear his head. He felt sick, but he knew he couldn't let that stop him.

He felt a pair of hands gently lift him back to his feet. Once he was on his feet he didn't look back, he pulled one strap over his good shoulder and walked forwards towards the ravine.

When he made it there, he pulled out his flute with his good arm. He took a as deep a breath as he could and blew a single note as hard as he could. It sounded it made was a shriek, but he wasn't trying to play, he wanted to get the others attention.

The mammoth shook its head in agitation, but kept moving towards the red and white huntresses. What were their names again? He would ask again later.

He launched a dozen ice lances at and in front of the grimm.

Half hit the thick hide of the grimm and shattered on impact, the other half caused it to stop as well as getting the attention of the huntresses.

Ruby looked over and saw the figure of Glace at the edge of the ravine. The area he was standing at was extended unevenly for about 30 more feet, with it being not as wide, making it a great place to corner the grimm.

He waved an arm in a forwards to backwards motion. She didn't know what he exactly was planning but she saw a strong foundation of a plan.

"Glace has a plan! We need to drive the grimm towards him!"

"That's crazy!" Luna shouted, as she loaded high-brass slug rounds in her weapon.

"We have to trust him, he has more experience in getting out of situations like this." Weiss insisted as places her last cartridge cylinder of earth dust into Myrtenaster. "Believe me, the best plan we have would be If we could hammer the spikes through its body, then we would likely be able to kill it, but instead, we injured so it is now too dangerous to get close."

Ruby loaded a fresh magazine of lightning dust rounds, "Then let's drive it hard."

The mammoth grimm shook its head in irritation. While its ears were not as large or sensitive ears as its Valian cousin, the Goliath. That high pitch shrieking of the instrument still caused it a different but as much agony as the other humans.

It turned to look at him, he took another breath and blew again. It half blind and filled with a pain filled rage, it charged him.

He smiled, the amount of damage the huntresses had dealt to it to get an older, smarter grimm such as this to act so impulsively like a young Gigawolf, was impressive. It would make it much easier to spring his trap.

All four huntresses formed a firing line with some distance apart from each and a small brown glyph appeared in front of each of them. Weiss put another and unleash open fired with everything they have onto the mammoth's face. The barrage it a few of the eyes and forced the grimm to turn away and retreat. She had to use more aura and dust for the glyph in front of Luna, who was using the last operational BARC. The front mounted 30 caliber machine-guns basically became automatic flechette rifle.

The mammoth was starting to look like a giant echidna with all the rock spikes imbedded throughout its body.

With all the ice pulled from the air because his fight with the Giant, the storm had broken and the sky began nearly clear. He didn't have much time left to enact his plan.

"Come on, come on, force it towards me!" Glace muttered to himself. He waved toward the huntresses. He created and launched several lances.

He watched as the four huntresses spread out in a long firing line, another series of glyphs appeared in front of them and a barrage was unleashed onto the mammoth's face. They must have hit something vital like an eye for the grimm to turn and charge blindly away. The huntresses move parallel to it, while continuing to shoot it.

"Come on…" he blew hard into his flute again until he was out of breath, "bring it towards me."

Fortunately, the huntresses had finally herded it towards him, but it must have taken quite a bit of their ammo to do so. With the number nonbone spines sticking out of it, it was starting to look like a giant echidna. The grimm charged with blind abandon, with enhanced dust rounds spurred it towards him. He smiled when the grimm passed his bag on the hill, which was roughly 35 feet away from him.

It took two more strides and then the ground broke beneath it, revealing that the 'ground' was only a sheet of snowy ice. The rest of the area in a 30 foot radius shattered and fell into the canyon, expect for a small platform underneath the Legend.

The front half of the grimm fell halfway through the ice, its back legs on actual ground strained to keep it from falling completely through while its front legs scrapped against the side of the cliff. There was nothing more the Legend could do, he was breathing hard, and could barely hold his concentration to keep himself levitated on his small platform. His hastily formed plan had been executed almost perfectly, was but he didn't have the ability to reinforce the first few feet of ice to allow it to move into the guaranteed kill zone.

He saw a cloud of snow kick up as the last snow speeder barreled towards him. What are you doing?

She gunned it to full speed and threw herself off.

It shot forward like a missile and struck the back of the knee of the grimm. The BARC wasn't designed to be a ramming vehicle, so the speeder compacted in on itself as it crashed against the leg of the Megoliath, but the force of the impact caused the knee to buckle and give. Then it fell forwards.

It wailed very loudly as it plummeted to its dead.

He wiped his mouth with his sleeve before speaking, "Good job everyone, you managed not to get yourselves killed. Now if any of you…"

"Luna his hair and eyes, they…" Ruby whispered, she spoke more words, but Luna was not hearing them anymore. She walked forward solely focused on him. While having met the madman giant who had shown his intention of killing them. He had done one good thing, even if he had meant to do harm.

He had beaten the ice off of him, revealing long blonde hair and his oh so familiar blue eyes. He didn't seem to realize this as she stepped towards him.

"J-Jaune-Jaune?" Luna stuttered. Stalhrim fell out of her hand as she stepped forwards. She couldn't believe it. A decade of heartache told her the person standing in front of her wasn't an illusion. He reacted to his nickname but he was dead, wasn't he?

He stiffened, he then ran his fingers slowly through his grown out hair before then going to touch his eyes. His shoulders sagged as he let out a sigh. He forgot that the giant literally punched him so hard, that had knocked off the ice that had hidden his features. Now of all people, his sister was here to see his face could see his face. He looks at her and gives her a small smile, "Hey Lu-Lu, it's been a long time."

The female Arc was speechless.

"Lu-Lu?" Ruby giggled.

Weiss was surprised, Jaune; the missing brother of her teammate Luna, was the Legend that they were searching for… what were the odds?

"If you are truly Luna's brother. That means you're Jaune. How are you here?" Pyrrha questioned. She too doubted that they would be so fortunate that the Winter Knight would also be her partner's brother.

He scratched the back of his head, slightly ruffling his shoulder length hair, "Well, I guess since you know who I am, you should know the truth-"

*WHAP*

His head snapped to the side as he stumbled a step. Ouch. His sister hadn't held back in that slap. The rest of her team looked at her in shock. Wasn't this reunion supposed to be a joyous moment?

He slowly looked back at her and sighed as he rubbed his reddened cheek. He probably should have expected it. Surprisingly though, the slap actually cleared his head, "I guess that I deserved that. Hey Lu-Lu." He said with a small smile.

"You deserve so much more." She snarled, then she grabbed him by his well worn grey shirt and yelled, "10 godsdamn years! And you could have come during any of that time! Why?! You know how much it hurt to have everyone telling me that my brother was dead and I needed to move on, but my soul telling me you couldn't be, never allowing me to mourn or move on."

The rage started to subside, but in its place was years of bottled up grief. "You know how many nights I cried myself to sleep because my heart never believed you were dead and you were out there, alone and in danger!"

The now revealed Jaune gently pulled her hands off his chest and he kissed them before responding, "I am so sorry Lu. But I, I had to stay away…"

"Bullshit! We're family! Do we mean nothing to you! What about Daisy and Iris? How do you think our baby sisters felt when we had to tell them that their brother couldn't come home because he was dead?!"

"That's not fair and you know it!" Jaune yelled back as he pushed away from her, then suppressed a wet cough using his sleeve.

Luna ignored him and continued. "We never needed you to be a hero! We needed our family to be whole. When Mum and dad heard that I was training to be a huntress, they thought I doing so I could go on a suicidal rampage against grimm or hunt down the bandit tribe that caused your death! They were worried that when I had the skills, I would become a merciless killing machine. You know how many psychologists that took me to, to make sure that I was on the path to save people, and not turn into a killer?!"

"I didn't- I couldn't!" he argued.

"Yes! Yes you could! Did you not even think about calling us or letting us know you were alive?!"

"I… I was scared. Of, hurting all of you. I wasn't safe to be around! I still am not!"

Luna and Jaune continued arguing, ignoring the rest of the group. They stood back awkwardly as this reunion unfolded in an ugly manner, not wanting to stop them and have the anger of two Arcs focused on them.

"Weiss, what's happening?"

"Well Ruby, from what you should be able to see. Glace, the Winter Knight, is Luna's brother…"

"And we found him. Shouldn't Luna be happy that her brother is alive?" The reaper had thought of the same scenario of her mother, Summer Rose, walking through the door of their home on the Patch countless times before, and this wasn't playing out anything like what she imagined.

"She will be happy, possibly a sometime later," hopefully" Weiss paused, "From what I gathered, when they were separated, Gl—Jaune, saved his sister at what everyone thought was the cost of his life. But he survived, but never came home. Remember back when Winter briefed us on the missing, Luna has always believed that her brother survived, and she was right. But now she is very angry that he never let her know he was alive."

"But why would he do that?" Ruby asked

"That is the mystery. Perhaps he will tell us later, but for now, I think we need to let Luna vent for a little longer." The Mistral Champion reasoned. "But we shouldn't wait much longer or they will start attract Grimm."

After a few more minutes, both Arcs seemed to tire of arguing, the entire ordeal, the fight and then the reveal was physically and mentally exhausting.

"Did you at least take care of the maniac who attacked us out of the blue?" The blonde huntress asked in a much calmer tone.

"Yeah. I buried him under a few tons of ice." Her sibling responded. He played with the ends of his hair.

"Lu, I, I know that I can't get you to leave me here…"

"Your damn right I won't."

He sighed, "then I guess the only way for you to leave is if I come with you."

She hugged him, "That's right bro, we're bringing you home."

He took a sharp breath as he tried to return the first hug from his sister in a decade, she let go of him. "You alright?"

"I think I may need to see a doctor, think I felt a rib just move." He intercepted her hand which was glowing silver. "Relax, I'm still standing so it isn't that bad."

His sister continued to pass her aura into him through the contact not believing him. She stared into his eyes with a serious look and after a moment she said, "Or you could be dopped up and don't feel anything… What did you use?" when he opened his mouth to speak, she cut him off. "Don't try to lie to me, you were always terrible at it… That and your pupils are horribly dilated."

Regrettably he pulled his arm out of her grasp before turning back to the rest of the huntresses.

Weiss picked up her scroll and noticed that there were over a dozen missed calls from both Winter and Clover. She winced slightly at the number as she clicked on her sister's icon to call her back.

"Let's just go, its pointless to keep arguing here. You carry your teammate and I'll carry her, scythe gun…"

Jaune put a hand on Ruby's should who looked like she was ready to fall asleep standing. Luna gave him a withering look for trying to play the tough guy when he was hurt, luckily Ruby beat her to rejecting his offer.

"Hey, no touching my baby!" the reaper growled with an actual dangerous look in her eye. "You have not earned the right to hold Crescent Rose yet!"

Glace crossed his arms, "I saved your life."

The Rose didn't back down, "Maybe, you did. I won't let you use it as an excuse to touch my baby since you haven't proven that you can properly care of your own weapon."

Glace stepped back, slightly surprised by the red reaper's sudden hostility. He was just trying to be helpful, "I never had one…"

"Perhaps we should have warned you that Ruby is very protective of her weapon." The tall redhead informed him.

"That would have been helpful."

"That was sweet of you but—"

She was about to say more when she heard the sound of whistling.

Glace pushed the her aside and held up his right hand as a large white boulder comes flying at them. A few feet before it hit them, it exploded and turned to mist as it passed around them, revealing it to be made of ice.

"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!" Luna shouted

They could see several more boulder sized pieces of ice also fly towards them.

"Get behind me!" Jaune ordered. The huntresses quickly moved to get behind him.

The boulders crashed all around them. Fortunately it was only the first one that almost hit them. When the clouds settled, they saw an unnerving sight.

Hazel started to approach them completely uninjured. He had retained some of his composure back, and that may have been worse for them as he was a terrifying adversary. His face was full of furry while his body sparked and shimmered from the energy of multiple colored dust crystals imbedded into his arms. His voice was still held a demonic tone. "In all honesty, that was a good attempt, it was the best anyone has done in a long-time boy, however; now I know that it is necessary to break you before I take you with me."

"H-How? How did you survive!?"

"That type of bombardment wasn't as effective as you might think. Only the first bit hit me, and the rest just forced me take longer to dig my way out. If you wanted to kill me, you should have compacted it to crush me."

The Winter Knight swallowed at the slight of the angered expression on the Giants face, "Don't be so afraid Glace, I need to bring you back alive." From behind him, many more black silhouettes start to appear.

"Is he still able to call grimm to him?! Fuck!" Jaune swore

"He can do?!" Ruby called out as she tossed Stalhrim to Luna who quickly topped off the round in her weapon.

"You saw him call the Megoliath to attack us 15 minutes ago!" Weiss shouted in response. The Heiress rotated the cylinders of Myrtenaster to the ice cartridge. She conjured up a dozen ice infused glyphs above her, but unlike the Winter Knight, she fired them off only two at a time in a small area, she didn't have the the time nor the aura to make as many as Glace did. But she could be more precise with her targets.

"Well, I didn't believe that it was him!" She shot back.

They were refocus by the crack Pyrrha's carbine. "Focus! We can discuss this later with the Headmaster!"

The huntresses open fired on the incoming grimm, cutting them down as soon as they could get a lethal shot, but more kept appearing. In the distance they heard the trumpet of more mammoth grimm.

The winds start to pick back up, but it was not wild like the blizzard from earlier, it was barely more than a breeze. "I said that they are under my protection, so I will stop you!" he started covered his mouth as he started coughing.

The snow around them was pulled off the ground, condensed into ice and thrown in the wind tunnel. The ice shards flew towards the Berserk, however, Hazel casually walked against the wind, with the ice shards shattering on impact with his aura.

"Come on, come on, fall you bastard." Glace growled, his body physically shaking from the eversion.

Suddenly, Hazel raises his arms to block several much larger icicles launched at a much faster speed. The heiress grabs Jaune's arm to get his attention "This isn't working, you need to try something else."

"This is all I have left." Glace barely breathed in response.

As she looked into his face, she noticed how labored his breathing was and blood was dripping from his nose off his chin. His sapphire eyes still burned brightly as if he still had aura left to keep fighting.

"You need to stop, your semblance is putting too much strain on your body. He has grimm, we need to run." Weiss.

"I'm fine… Just need to keep this up til he falls. If the ice doesn't stop him, then the cold should kill him." The Legend breathed

The Giant was no farther than 30 feet away and still approaching. It was then that Weiss noticed the

"Jaune! Those fire dust crystals imbedded into his arms, the cold won't affect him like it would us." Weiss.

"Oh… Then I fucked up. Run!" He ordered, then keeled over as he started to cough violently, red spittle coming from his mouth. Weiss held him by his shoulders. "You need to leave."

"It's too late for that." A deep voice boom. Weiss looked up and realized that Hazel had made it to them. The Giant raise both arms above his head and locked his hands together to smash them.

A shot rang out and a red spear struck the Giant in the face, right under his left eye. The man's aura protected him but he was still forced to step back and shield his eyes as more dust rounds pelted his face.

The spear rebounded from the impact but instead of falling to the ground normally, the shaft fell sideways, and then flew back, catching both Glace and Weiss along the length and pulling them back to a safer distance.

Weiss quickly got to her feet, but the Legend groaned as he landed on his back. He slowly got up.

Ruby shot Hazel in the shoulder. "You won't hurt my friend's brother!" he stumbled back from the of force. She had to be using a larger than necessary caliber weapon. He glared at here and punched a few fireballs at her.

The fireballs were much slower than bullets, so the scythe wielder easily dodged them and snapped two shots back at him in return before Crescent Rose clicked empty.

The two rounds exploded on the berserk's chest before he retreated a few steps back and let the Gigawolves rush past him. Getting hit by a round of that large of a caliber was not pleasant to say the least, he didn't have a quick enough reaction to focus his aura to effortlessly block the shots, so he had to rely on his aura to be able to tank the damage or call on the grimm, which were a limitless resource.

Concern turned into worry as Weiss's checked her cartridges. She was running very low on dust. She was completely out of earth dust and fire dust.

And the last cylinders she had left were half-full of lightning, air, and gravity dust. It was about to turn into a melee, she didn't even know what level her aura was at, but it had to be below half. Winter said that their evac team was a few minutes out, but at this rate, they may not have a few minutes.

"I can distract him so you can get away," his voice sounded thick, as if he was speaking with fluids.

His sister shook her head, "He'll kill you!"

He shook his head, "No… he won't. He wants me alive, but he won't hesitate to kill the rest of you." His whole body screamed in agony as he reached out to put his control over the ice again, however his sister could not except that answer.

"You're not doing this again! You're not leaving me somewhere while you run off and die to save me!" Luna cried

Jaune's eyes closed sadly, "I know that It's not fair, but you have to let me do this. If not for yourself, but for them." He motions back to her team. They had engaged the grimm in a melee, they moved like water flowing around rocks, but they were on the verge of being overwhelmed.

"B-but, you will die!"

He kisses her on the forehead and stood, unsteady on his feet. "We all eventually die Lu. Today may be just my day, but if I can stop, it won't be yours as well. I love you Lu."

A few Gigawolves turned and charged right towards them. Blood started to leak from his eyes as he raised a hand. The words he heard behind him steadied his resolve.

"I love you too bro."

And I am finally back with NIFF a new chapter! Sorry for the wait everyone, I really didn't like the first draft of this fight with WRPA and the Megoliath. I also had a critical power scaling problem in the first draft. In the first dragt, Glace stepped in and actually killed the Megoliath, despite being injured and how much aura the ice trap used against Hazel used. Jaune does have a larger aura reserve and has more control because of the snow environment, but not he does not have unlimited aura and that means no aura amp semblance.

I also switched and wrote the first chapter of a new story Warriors of Remnant because I had horrible writer's block on what to do in redrafting this fight. I will switch to writing Warriors of Remnant whenever I have writer's block for NIFF.

Out of curiosity, what did you think of having the perspective a grimm for that time? Either way, I probably won't do that often. And yes, the Winter Knight is Jaune. I guess I did give it away with the character pin of the story, lesson learned for surprise reveals for future stories. I will try and get the next chapter out soon, but I have come to terms with the fact that I can't make promises on having a release date. Also, did anyone really think I was going to punk Hazel? The man who injects freaking dust into his body… yeah, elemental attacks really would not affect him. A very much a hypothetical for this story, but not for a different one, if I kill off an important character who was title tagged, should I remove them from the title tag when it happens or should I never have tagged them to begin with?
