Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Shadows in the Dark. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own Pokémon; Nintendo and a few others do.
Hervi really couldn't believe how well this battle was starting to go. It was surprising, and yet? It was exhilarating. He savored every second of the battle, every small amount of enjoyment that could be squeezed from this skirmish he enjoyed.
"Just a heads up? I'm not really mad if I lose. I do only have 2 Pokémon, you know." Hervi added, gesturing around him as he did so.
It wasn't like he had much reason to get mad. If he lost? Then he'd end up being simply keen to train more. This wide open grassy plain full of lush green plants? It just made him feel more at home.
"You know the deal if we lose, right?" Marnie asked, grabbing her other Pokeball as Hervi nodded.
"Yeah, but that doesn't really do the damage you seem to think it might." Marnie heard from Hervi as he turned, pointing a finger at her as he did so. "It just makes me want to train more. What's the fun of Pokémon battles if you don't lose some, hmm? Nobody wants to win them all, it gets boring if you keep doing that." Hervi added, brushing off his jacket as he did so.
Marnie let out a hum as she thought about his words. That was true enough, she supposed. It was fun to win, but those wins would mean nothing if she didn't lose now and again. She looked at Hervi's Duskull. The Pokémon's wandering eye seemed ever curious as Hervi smiled, simply enjoying the Pokémon's company. He turned to give Mimikyu a small pat atop the head, eager to assure the Pokémon he still loved him all the same.
"We going to end up getting this show on the road, or…?" Hervi questioned, gesturing to his Duskull as the Pokémon flicked out its tongue, eager to brawl.
Marnie nodded, flicking out her own Pokeball and releasing her next Pokémon. She watched as her familiar Toxicroak popped from the device, taking a breath of air as its poison sacks filled up.
"Wow, a Toxicroak, you've been to Sinnoh?" Hervi questioned, impressed by the manner in which she managed to obtain such a Pokémon.
Marnie simply shook her head, knowing that such a Pokémon hadn't at all come from this region. It was surprising, but she knew her brother had pulled some strings to get the Pokémon, not that she wasted a chance to put it to good use.
"Eh, save asking when either of us win." Hervi said before turning to Duskull, eager to get this battle on the road. "Ok, Duskull, you ready for this!?" Hervi shouted as the Pokémon turned to him, surprised to see a human was commanding him. It made Hervi rub awkwardly at the back of his neck.
Marnie rolled her eyes, thinking of how amusing this was going to be. She turned to Toxicroak who seemed to await her next command as the grass swished back and forth, coming up to her knees in the process.
"Toxicroak, use Sucker Punch!" Marnie yelled, watching as her Pokémon charged at Hervi's who seemed to dodge it before he could give the command.
'Yep, that Duskull is brand new if he's already acting like that.' Marnie thought to herself as Hervi blinked, watching the Pokémon float to the side.
"Duskull, use Will-O-Wisp!" Hervi ordered, pumping a fist as he did so.
He watched as the Pokémon released a torrent of flames which Toxicroak flipped away from, already dodging the flames with ease. Hervi hummed and thought about his next move he could make here. There wasn't many that didn't result in this battle going sideways. But then again? Hervi was fine losing as he had said before, he couldn't say he wasn't at all prepared to lose if worst came to worse.
"This battle will be over sooner or later, you know." Hervi stated as he smirked, ready to go. "There's plenty of time to surrender." Hervi said to which Marnie rolled her eyes.
He waited to see what her next move would be. It was at least going to be interesting.
"What are you going to do if you lose?" Marnie asked as Hervi hummed.
"Train, come back, ask you to battle again, call it a day… Why?" Hervi questioned, turning to look at his Mimikyu. "Losing isn't that bad when it inspires you. I'm not mad about that, I told you that, remember?" Hervi asked, raising an eyebrow to which Marnie was silent.
"That's what I thought, you ready to finish this battle?" Hervi questioned as he hummed before crossing his arms. "This isn't going to end like you think it is… Or maybe it will, we don't know yet, do we?" Hervi questioned to himself as he did so.
'This fight isn't going to end easily.' Hervi thought to himself as he rubbed at his eyes.
