Chapter Twenty-Four

It has been a few days since Selkidomus hunt. Since then, Lilith has finally been learning glyph magic from Danielle. Setting up the lesson outside this time, Danielle sees Lilith staring intently at the board.

"Light, ice, plant and fire are the basic glyphs of the Boiling Isles Titan," said Danielle, pointing at the chalkboard. "Thanks to Collector here, I was able to learn more about them."

"Exactly," said Collector, floating near Danielle. "Glyphs are powered by the Titan itself but each glyph is different between each Titan."

"Now, I've shown you the basic glyphs so far," said Danielle, pushing a pointer closed. "Time to learn something new but I still want you to master the basics till its second nature."

"Are we about to encounter a never-before-seen glyph?" asked Lilith, staring at Danielle.

"It has been a while since Papa Titan here has shown me a new glyph," replied Danielle, lightly scratching her cheek.

"Probably doesn't know which one to show you next," said Collector, looking at Danielle. "You have discovered a lot since you came here."

"True," said Danielle, before looking at Lilith. "In any case, today we're learning how to alter glyphs to do specific things! Combinations to be exact, like what would fire and ice together would give you."

"Miss teacher, did I do it right?" asked Lilith, holding up a diagram of ice glyphs.

"Very good Lilith," said Danielle, looking at the diagram.

"While you're learning the basics and such, I'm doing a little experiment," said Eda, carving two glyphs overlapping each other.

"Wait! Glyphs aren't supposed…" said Collector, only to see the glyph combo explode right in front of Eda. "Seen that coming."

"Oh dang, I was hoping more of an ice blast situation," said Eda, staring at the failed glyph combo.

"Someone is being a little impatient in wanting to be all powerful again," said Danielle, looking at Eda. "It's not going to happen overnight Eda."

"Toot toot! The Hexside train is a-coming!" said Hooty, opening his mouth wide. "Chugga-chugga!"

"Hooty, don't you dare…" said Danielle, only to be swallowed by Hooty alongside Collector. "Aah!"

"Let us out you parasyte!" shouted Collector, from within his tablet.

"Wait, what are you doing?" asked Principal Bump, seeing Hooty enter his office and regurgitating an owl pellet that broke up revealing Danielle. "Oh."

"Hooty!" shouted Danielle, glaring at Hooty. "Never owl pellet me again. Ew ew, gross gross gross gross."

"What, I'm only preventing Amity from…" said Hooty, only to see Amity slam the door open.

"There you are. Abominations, sei…" said Amity, only to see Principal Bump. "Principal Bump, I…"

"I don't know what happened between the time from the so-called petrification to now," said Principal Bump, standing up and looking at Amity. "But I will not allow harm to come to young Danielle. Go to class now Miss Blight."

"Yes, Principal Bump," said Amity, leaving before glaring at Danielle. "I'm not done with you."

"Stop being so mean to Danielle," said Collector, glaring at Amity. "Or I'll show her how to make you into a doll."

"Please don't," said Danielle, looking at Collector. "I still don't know how to reverse what I did to my Potion Teacher."

"Don't worry. In this shell, she's hibernating," sang Collector, floating near the puppetified teacher before hearing Danielle clap her hands. "Haha, that sounded good with my singing."

"I'll question it later," said Danielle, before looking at Amity. "Your hair is different. It's abomination themed, isn't it."

"I'd watch your back if I was you," said Amity, her hair no longer up but completely down and colored the darker purples of abominations before leaving the principal's office.

"I really did lose Amity as a friend," said Danielle, waving bye to Principal Bump as she left the office and headed down the halls. "I wonder how I can make it up to her. I can't bring this Luz person back."

"Why bother?" asked Collector, looking at Danielle. "You're here so she should get over it. By the way, you should really try and use the magic you were born with."

"Unfortunately, I don't know how to truly grasp it without losing myself to my emotions or stress," said Danielle, looking at Collector. "Besides wouldn't that further the process of me becoming an immortal?"

"Depends on how much you use," replied Collector, looking at Danielle. "If it's itty bitty then it won't do much but… you can go all right and become a full celestial and we can play forever. Come on, what you say. Become a full celestial in a few hours and we can have fun forever, me and you and King."

"I want to stay mortal for as long as possible," said Danielle, walking a tiny bit faster.

"Why?" asked Collector, looking at Danielle. "Don't you…"

"Look Collector, while I'm glad to find out I'm some half celestial that could become a full celestial eventually, I'm also scared," said Danielle, looking at Collector. "It means I'm going to outlive a lot of people I've befriended including my family and seeing them leave when it's their time, it's just… it's a little much to really grasp. That's why I want to stay as a mortal as long as I can, cause once I'm immortal there's no going back."

"I still don't understand," said Collector, before spotting Willow and Gus. "Hey, it's Willow and Gus."

"Uh… hi you two," said Danielle, gripping her textbooks close nervously.

"Hi Danielle," said Willow, staring at Danielle. "It's been a while. We were able to think and…"

"We still want to be your friend," said Gus, looking at Danielle. "I don't know what happened to this Luz but if she were return, we'd still want to be friends to the both of you."

"Agreed," said Willow, looking at Danielle. "So… can we still be friends?"

"Yes… yes, I would like that," said Danielle, smiling happily before looking at Gus. "Someone had a growth spurt since last seen."

"Witch puberty," said Gus, shrugging.

"Great that you're still friends," said Collector, looking at the three. "Now how to get Amity back to being your friend?"

"A miracle would have to happen," replied Danielle, before hearing the intercom go off.

"You can't just barge in here!" said Principal Bump, talking to someone that entered his office.

"Yes, we can. We are the Parent Creature Association," said a Feminine Voice, before speaking through the intercom. "Danielle Hopkins, Willow Park and Augustus Porter, report to Principal Bump's office now! And you too, Amity."

"I recognize that voice," said Danielle, as they walk to the principal's office. "From that memory of Amity's, it's her mom Odalia Blight."

"This can't be good," said Willow, entering the principal's office and seeing Amity and both her parents. "Really not good."

"Someone been hitting the jelly donuts," thought Danielle, looking at Odalia as she sat.

"The abomination situation, the destruction of detention, the rampage of grom," said Odalia, staring at the teens. "These are but a few of the incidents that have endangered Hexside students, including our daughter. So, the PCA has decided to..."

"Oh, right," said Amity's dad, after Odalia gained his attention. "Um, these three are bad influences and must be executed."

"Executed?!" shouted Danielle, not liking what she heard.

"Ahem, I mean expelled," said Amity's dad, correcting himself.

"I may have not had the time to fully read the PCA guidelines," said Danielle, staring at Odalia. "But that doesn't warrant expulsion. No one got hurt during grom except me, the detention pit was a miscalculation as not all the banned posters were completely burned, and the abomination incident was me trying to help Willow here get on the track she deserved to be on."

"Ah, you're the witch hunter I've heard about," said Odalia, eyeing Danielle. "Even more reason for… Alador!"

"Witch hunter… hmm," said Alador, studying Danielle up close as he examines her.

"Uh… hi… Wha-aah!" screamed Danielle, as Alador was about to pull the back of her collar down before being grabbed and flipped over onto the floor. "Thank heaven for those self-defense classes."

"Dad," said Amity, leaning down to help her dad up before glaring at Danielle.

"This is interesting," thought Odalia, seeing Amity's display. "I may be able to reign my daughter back in easier than I thought."

"Look if this is reason because we're friends with Amity then you have nothing to worry about," said Danielle, staring to the side. "Amity already broke up her friendship with me."

"Oh," said Odalia, liking what she heard. "And what about these two?"

"Still friends," replied Willow, nervously.

"Sadly, I have no choice in the matter," said Principal Bump, looking at the three. "Danielle, Willow, Augustus, effective immediately you are no longer students of Hexside."

"Good. Now, you'll be taking double the classes to make up for lost time," said Odalia, looking at Amity. "Actually, I'm appalled that you're not in class right now. What are you thinking?"

"What?" thought Danielle, staring at Odalia. "Is she trying to wear Amity out?"

"Right, sorry," said Amity, staring at the floor.

"Amity," thought Danielle, before the office door opened revealing two school guards. "Hello boys, miss me?"

"Aaah!" screamed the School Guards, seeing Danielle before running away.

"What the…" said Odalia, confused.

"I'll just show myself out," said Danielle, leaving the principal's office with Willow and Gus.

"It finally happened! Our memorable adventures caught up to us. Oh, my dad can't find out about this!" said Gus, as they finally step out of the school. "I guess I'll have to start surviving off the land. Ah! This is impossible!"

"I guess this is goodbye. I'll water you one last time... with my tears!" said Willow, hugging a tree.

"Amity's mom was mean," said Collector, within the tablet.

"I can't let this happen to Willow and Gus or even Amity," said Danielle, before spotting Odalia and walking over. "Mrs. Blight, I'd like to have a word with you."

"Danielle, was it?" said Odalia, looking at Danielle. "Please, this isn't personal. I actually appreciate your tenacity. We're just trying to teach our daughter a valuable lesson in business."

"What… on how if she doesn't listen to you, she loses something precious to her," said Danielle, a little heated.

"You're a mean lady," said Collector, coming out of the tablet.

"Oh, you got yourself a little spirit," said Odalia, looking at Collector. "You know, you could do better than this human here. Why not leave her and…"

"No way. I've bonded with her and there's nothing that will separate me from her," said Collector, before shifting into a cat form and swiping his hind legs at Odalia. "So, shoo."

"Why you little brat," said Odalia, glaring at Collector. "If you were mortal, I would have slapped you across your face for such an act, and your parents wouldn't have been able to do anything to me because of my higher standing on the isles."

"I'd leave my friend out of this," said Danielle, standing in front of Collector protectively as her eyes glowed.

"Look, if you're interested in talking things through, I'm sure we can come to some sort of an agreement," said Odalia, handing a business card over from Alador's pockets.

"Gus chomp!" said Gus, grabbing the card with his mouth and chewing it.

"Come on, Danielle," said Willow, gesturing Danielle away. "We can figure this out on our own."

"That's right, we'll get back into Hexside or die trying!" said Gus, as he spat the card out.

"No one's dying," said Willow, looking at Gus.

"Not with that attitude," said Gus, walking alongside Willow.

"Yes, well, when that doesn't work, you know where to find us," said Odalia, pushing Alador along with her.

"I'd wash your mouth out if I was you Gus," said Danielle, looking at Gus. "Who knows where that has been."

Thinking of some plans to get back in, they head to the Owl House to cook up a cake that was shaped to be an abomination head. Heading back after cooking, Danielle and Willow were able to make a pulley system and a basket outside the window to the principal's office. With Gus's help, they were able to get it up to the window. Hearing a tap outside the window, Principal Bump sees the basket and a note before looking at the cake and sniffing the freshly baked smell. The teens hear a loud belch before pulling the basket down and seeing the basket empty. An easy dine and dash that had Danielle twitching her eyebrow in anger and annoyance. Principal Bump's palisman ends up running towards them at one point before grabbing Danielle by the back of her shirt before going staff mode and flying towards the school. Willow and Gus give chase before seeing Principal Bump point a ballista at them. Principal Bump's palisman is startled and drops Danielle, though Danielle had a wind glyph prepared and hovered above the ground for a bit before landing.

"Life is just so dull without them!" said Principal Bump, crying as he walks away.

"If it's so dull, let us back in," said Danielle, hearing Principal Bump before seeing his palisman climb up to him. "Later little Impadimp."

"Ah, this is hopeless!" said Gus, pacing about. "Nothing is working!"

"Oh no," said Willow, a crow phone landing on her head.

"Willow Park, did you get expelled?!" asked Willow's Papa, from the crow phone.

"This is Perry Porter with breaking news," said Gus's Dad, another crow phone landing on Gus's head. "In light of recent events, Augustus Porter will be grounded for no less than a year."

"What?!" said Danielle, hearing what Gus's Dad said.

"Help, Danielle!" shouted Gus, as the crow phone started lifting him in the air. "Let me go! No, please, no!"

"Just one? Willow's grounded for three at least!" said Willow's Papa, being sterner.

"No, ah!" said Willow, being lifted up as well. "Help, Danielle! Help, Danielle!"

"Now hold on minute," shouted Danielle, as she grabs the crow phones. "The only reason this happened is because Odalia Blight doesn't want Willow and Gus being friends with Amity. So, what better way than expel them to get them away from Amity. If you should be going after anyone, it's Odalia not your kids."

"Odalia!?" shouted Gus's Dad, furious. "That woman is getting more insane. Gus, come home. We'll think of something to get you back in."

"Screw that!" shouted Willow's Dad, furious as well. "Willow, you're getting homeschooled till we enroll you in Glandus under the Abomination track. You should have never left it in the first place."

"What? Wait, no!" shouted Willow, as the crow phone flew away with her.

"No! Willow!" shouted Danielle, running after Willow alongside Gus. "This can't be happening. Willow doesn't even like that track."

"Sounds like Willow's Papa is a bully," said Collector, seeing Willow out of sight.

"I better get going," said Gus, holding the crow phone as he walks away.

"Bye… … huh," said Danielle, seeing the business card on the ground and picking it up. "Maybe I can still fix this."

Heading back to the Owl House, Danielle drops Collector off with Eda and King. Leaving, Danielle heads to the address on the business card. Coming upon what looked to be a manor, Danielle sets off a plant glyph, holding a bouquet of mixed match flowers from home. Knocking on the door, Danielle sees an Abomination butler before it leads her inside.

"Fanciest looking place on the isles so far," said Danielle, before fixing the bow on the Abomination into a necktie before walking down towards the basement before knocking on the wall as she reached the bottom. "Mr. and Mrs. Blight… you here? Ew."

"Oh, don't mind him, dear. He's getting ready for our big demonstration tonight," said Odalia, before looking at her husband. "It's looking good, hon!"

"Look, I came here hoping in some possible way…" said Danielle, only to be cut off by Odalia.

"That's sweet, but let's get to the deal," said Odalia, holding a cup of tea. "We have a rather important presentation tonight showing off some new products."

"Abomination products?" said Danielle, seeing Alador mess around with machinery and abomination parts.

"Something like that," said Odalia, tracing the rim of the teacup. "Normally Amity helps us with these things, but she's busy catching up on schoolwork."

"If I help with this demonstration, will you let me and my friends back in Hexside?" asked Danielle, looking at Odalia. "And go easy on Amity, she's still your daughter."

"Don't worry, human," said Odalia, looking at Danielle. "A Blight always upholds their end of the deal. Now, you might want to go get ready, because we have..."

As day turns to night, Odalia had Danielle follow her to their factory where the presentation was to be held at. A lot of people were there. Emira and Edric were there as well and wondered what Danielle was doing there instead of their little sister. Danielle stands on stage with a display of weapons and Abominations behind her.

"A long night ahead of us folks! Welcome back to Blight Industries!" said Odalia, staring at the crowd of people.

"Mr. Blight, please don't tell me you guys don't specialize in weaponry," said Danielle, staring at Alador.

"Actually, we make a variety of abomination-based accessories for home security," said Alador, looking at Danielle. "But yeah, we also specialize in weaponry. Might want to duck."

"I don't think Belos would like hearing that a private army is being constructed under his nose," said Danielle, only to dodge as some abomination goop was sent her way. "Ew, gross."

"She's got a point," thought Alador, walking off stage. "I don't want to be petrified and leave my children. I still want to see my future grandchildren."

"Yes, our sticky launcher can peacefully subdue any foe!" said Odalia, launching another goop of abomination at Danielle, sticking her arm to the wall. "And, if peaceful isn't your thing..."

"Oh, for the love of all things holy," said Danielle, seeing the launcher become a flamethrower. "Let me survive this."

Demonstration after demonstration were shown. Odalia didn't like how Danielle masterfully was surviving against the onslaught she sent her way. The last one was a crossbow that was enhanced with abomination magic, which was halted in its tracks with plant magic before being pointed back at the abomination.

"Hasta la vista baby," said Danielle, striking the abomination with the product. "Oh, I'm going to need a shower after all this."

"Thank you, thank you. And they say said we couldn't make crossbows more fun!" said Odalia, mentally screaming on the inside. "Next, we're very excited to show you our last product from this line."

"Oh, thank goodness," said Danielle, brushing her hair back. "Just one more."

"My husband has been toiling away to bring you..." said Odalia, as the new product is lifted on stage. "The Abomaton 2.0!"

"Oh, my lanta!" said Danielle, staring at the Abomaton. "I'm screwed."

"It's bigger! It's better! The Abomaton 2.0 is the perfect soldier," said Odalia, walking in front of the Abomaton. "It won't rest until its enemy is completely eliminated!"

"Alright big boy, let's dance," said Danielle, only to see the Abomaton change its hands into weapons. "Oh my."

A terrified expression on her face, Danielle steels herself as her hair begins to change slowly to silvery white and her eyes glow. Dodging the Abomaton's first strike, Danielle sets off a wood glyph and holds a bat in place. Striking the abominations arms away as many times as she could, Danielle miscalculates and is grabbed by the Abomaton.

"Okay, it's strong," said Danielle, trying to catch her breath as she clutches her chest. "Isn't that enough of a presentation?"

"She has a point, Odalia," said Alador, looking at Odalia.

"Didn't you hear me witch hunter?" asked Odalia, walking forward. "It won't rest until its enemy is completely eliminated!"

"What… aaah!" said Danielle, being flung up and landing on a beam. "Odalia is enjoying seeing me suffer."

Seeing the Abomaton hovering behind her, Danielle sets off a fire glyph as it sends a multitude of fire birds at the Abomaton. Next was setting off a plant glyph to lower herself back on stage but the Abomaton pulls her back up and about to fire a beam at her before setting off a fire glyph resulting with an explosion and landing back on stage.

"Keep it together, keep it together," thought Danielle, clutching her chest in pain. "I'm doing this for Amity, Willow, and Gus. I'm doing it for them."

"Is the human…" thought Alador, staring at Danielle. "Does she have a health condition?"

"Aah!" shouted Danielle, seeing the Abomaton about to pulverize her then seeing it struggling. "Huh?"

"Hey!" said Amity, gaining everyone's attention. "Stay away from her!"

"Amity…" said Danielle, staring as Amity descends down after exploding the Abomaton's hands.

"Amity Blight, you are in so much troub…" said Odalia, only to see Amity destroy her own necklace.

"Amity, what are you…" said Danielle, only to be cut off by Amity.

"Look, just because we're not friends anymore doesn't mean I'd want you to suffer under my mom's hands," said Amity, staring back at Danielle as she dodges the Abomaton. "Bad enough that me and my siblings have to deal with her."

"Watch out!" shouted Danielle, tackling Amity away and setting off three glyphs to act as barriers, a plant barrier on the inside then a middle barrier of fire than a water barrier last.

"Whoa… Danielle," said Amity, impressed by the barrier before seeing Danielle clutching her chest in pain and trickles of blood to trail out of her mouth.

"Amity!" shouted Odalia, staring at Amity. "Get away from that witch hunter!"

"No, you're gonna listen to me for once. Willow and Gus are my friends! As was Danielle at one point," said Amity, forcing the Abomaton back. "They're nice to each other, they listen to each other. They make me think about the kind of person I really want to be!"

"Ugh! What do you want?!" asked Odalia, angry as she sees her sells dropping.

"Let my friends back into Hexside, or else your precious investors will watch me rip this thing apart bit. By. Bit," replied Amity, glaring at Odalia.

"I actually think that would be best," said Danielle, weakly.

"Shhh," said Amity, hushing Danielle.

"Fine! It's a deal!" said Odalia, groaning as her sells continue dropping. "Just stop with the theatrics!"

"Whoa, wait!" said Danielle, seeing Amity lower her spell and allowing the Abomaton to attack the barrier relentlessly till it caved and they're on the ground. "Mmm."

"Danielle!" shouted Willow, running over with Gus and the twins.

"As if I'd actually let them go back! I will call every authority I know! I'll make sure they can't…" said Odalia, only for Alador to cut her off.

"Odalia!" said Alador, gaining Odalia's attention. "You made a deal with your daughter, and a Blight always upholds their end of the deal. Besides, she's getting stronger. Strong enough to become a coven head someday."

"Wise words, dear. We have to focus on what's best for the family…" said Odalia, only to see Alador walk away more interested in a butterfly. "Alador!"

"Thanks Amity," said Danielle, sitting up alongside Amity. "For what you just did, that is."

"Look, maybe I overreacted with what I saw in your mind," said Amity, staring to the side. "I don't know why or how Luz prevented herself from coming back to the isles but I shouldn't have lashed out at you."

"It's okay," said Danielle, weakly. "I probably would have done the same thing."

"If you still want to be friends…" said Amity, extending here hand only for Danielle to place her hand over her's.

"One step at a time," said Danielle, looking at Amity. "We're get there again one day."

"Alright, now that that is over," said Edric, picking Danielle up bridal style. "I'll carry you back to the Owl House."

"I can walk you know," said Danielle, before clutching her chest in pain.

"I think it would be best to just let my son take you back," said Alador, still interested in the butterfly as he looks at everyone.

"O-okay," said Danielle, as Edric walks out of the factory.

Sending out his palisman, Edric flies Danielle back to the Owl House. Edric blushes up a storm as Danielle leans into him. Landing outside the Owl House, Edric helps Danielle down before opening the door.

"Thanks Edric," said Danielle, walking in before seeing the state of the living room. "I'm afraid to ask."

"Hey, Danielle!" said Eda, looking at Danielle. "We actually learned something new!"

"Can this wait till tomorrow?" asked Danielle, looking at Eda as she sits on the couch.

"I'll just leave you guys to your… things," said Edric, leaving. "Byeee."

"Miss Teacher!" said Lilith, gaining Danielle's attention as she holds up an ice statue of Danielle. "Do I get extra credit?"

"You don't have to worry about extra credit with me," replied Danielle, a shocked expression on her face as she stares at the ice statue. "Nor do that."

"Ah-choo!" said King, sneezing.

"Yeah, Eda made a glyph she shouldn't have," said Collector, coming out of the tablet before seeing Danielle fall asleep on the couch. "Danielle…"

"Oh, a present," said Collector, seeing a present fall out of Danielle's messenger bag.

"Oh right, I remember grabbing it before I left," said Danielle, as she grabs the present.

"Open it," said Collector, looking at Danielle. "I want to see what it is."

"Okay," said Danielle, opening the present only to see a set of pink rose shaped earrings before looking at a note.

Sorry if it's a little late Sweet Pea

The mail has been wonking lately

Happy Birthday to my precious little girl

Love, Your Dad

"Dad," thought Danielle, staring longingly at the earrings with tears in the corners of her eyes.

"You going to wear them?" asked Collector, looking at Danielle.

"Of course, I am," replied Danielle, wiping the tears away as she places them on her ears. "They're perfect. Thanks Dad."
