See you Princess.
That was what he said to her before he walked out.
Strangely, by heart, she wanted to run after him; however her feet were glued on the ground.
She was pissed.
Very pissed.
How could he not understand? Her house was flooded and she had been up since three o'clock in the morning. The water was turned off which meant that she cannot use the bathroom, or the kitchen, or the laundry room. Doesn't Seiya understand that water is the source of life? Instead of helping her, he was complaining and making fun of her.
How unfair!
Who does Seiya think he is?
She stood there silently for a long time before she realized that her stomach was growling.
She went to the kitchen but found the fridge and counter completely empty.
Because Seiya had eaten everything she had.
Bananas and yogurts.
He always ate like there's no tomorrow. Watching him eating in the past few weeks only made her appetite ever smaller. How could his stomach store that much food? That made her sick, really sick.
It wasn't just his eating habits that was bothering her.
Seiya's attitudes towards her had been hot and cold, depending on his mood. There were times when he could be quite mean. Yet, there were also times that he was very caring. Once, at the diner, after she signed the check, Seiya scribed on the napkin a very exaggerated version of her signature – big bubble cursives like ones written by elementary school kids. Then, later that day, when she was taking a walk in the evening, he placed his jacket over her shoulders because it was chilling. Most of the time his face was stony; however, he did smile occasionally.
His smile was very…heartwarming.
Seiya was such an enigma.
Well, enigma or not, he was no longer her bodyguard.
No water, no food, and no bodyguard.
On their way to the court, it was Aiolia driving; but on their way back home, Aiolus drove.
He silently waited for Aiolia to speak.
Their client, Saga, was on trial for first degree murder of his twin brother Kanon. Saga had Kanon locked in the basement and drowned him, or at least according to the police's findings. Aiolus had intended for Saga to take a plea bargain for a shorter sentence given his mental condition, but Aiolia thought otherwise. With his sharp eyes, he noted the holes in the police's findings. With full confidence, he convinced Aiolus to have Saga plead not guilty.
"The state doesn't have a case," Aiolia insisted. "The authorities just want to wrap this case up with a scapegoat. They cannot do that."
This case was supposed to be Aiolus' with Aiolia as his second chair co-counsel.
However, unexpectedly, at the court, Judge Alone changed that.
As soon as he sat, his eyes were glued at the two defense attorneys with curiosity. He asked them the very same question that they have been asked many times, "Are you two twins, counsels?"
"No, your honor," Aiolus replied politely.
"I am taking you off this case," Judge Alone said to Aiolus without an explanation. "I am assigning this case to your co-counsel, who's your full-blooded brother I assume?"
"But your honor–"
Judge Alone hammered down his gavel and then asked Aiolia, "How do you plead?"
"Not guilty, your honor," Aiolia answered without a hesitation. For a young attorney freshly out of school like him, this case would not be a walk in the park. If the court were to find Saga guilty, then he would be sentenced to life in prison. Yet, Aiolia was unusually calm, much to Aiolus' concern.
"Who's going to be your co-counsel?" Aiolus asked, breaking the silence.
"Mu," Aiolia said.
"You know that Mu has no experience in criminal defense," Aiolus reminded him. "He's an expert in medical malpractice."
"But he has a MD and Saga is a sick man."
"Whatever you decide, it's your case now little brother."
Aiolia hated it when Aiolus called him that.
"Hey Aiolia, do me a favor," Aiolus handed him his phone. "Text Saori Aldebaran's number. No, actually the other way around. Text Aldebaran Saori's number and ask him to call her. Her house is flooded."
"It's a shame that Aldebaran had left the legal field to do this," Aiolia said as he texted Aldebaran. Then, a new text message popped up, from Saori to Aiolus.
I checked into a hotel and finally there's water. I ordered a room service meal. It's your favorite.
The text was followed by a picture of a Mediterranean salad served on a silver tray on the bed.
Aiolia wanted to say something but instead, he quietly deleted the new messages from Saori.
He knew very well that Aiolus was just a type of person who likes to take care of someone, but Saori was not his responsibility.
It was almost midnight when Saori got a text message from Aldebaran.
Hi, it's Aldebaran and Aiolus told me about your situation. Can you text me your address and the time you need me to be there? Thanks!
With a sigh of relief, she responded. She would like him to be at her house tomorrow morning, to which Aldebaran agreed.
Sitting on the bed, she realized how much she didn't like that mansion. It was never a home to her. Although her father Alman was much nicer to her compared to Guraad, whom she no longer saw as a mother, he wasn't really a family to her either. He had his office locked as once Guraad had locked the fridge. The only one who did care for her was Tatsumi, Alman's butler and bodyguard.
Maybe that was why she didn't mind hiring one herself.
Guraad never wanted her around, so she had her sent to a boarding school. Alman didn't agree and he pulled her out. As a result, Saori ended up in and out of school. Nothing was stable and things got a little better after Guraad moved out. Looking at her phone, Aiolus hadn't responded to her texts, which was odd. But then again, she knew that she couldn't depend on Aiolus on everything. After all, Aiolus was busy overseeing a law firm and his hot-blooded younger brother.
Queen Helen of Sparta ruled her kingdom with Sagittarius. Her crown was safe and she had an heir to the throne. But she could never be a real queen with Sagittarius by her side.
Immediately, she grabbed the notepad from the desk and started scribbling.
The plot of her next novel – Sagittarius will be dying from an illness due to a curse and Helen will be facing the invasion from Troy, under the scheme of Hera. But no fear, the main protagonist Helen will lead her warriors and generals on her own. After all, she is the reincarnation of Athena, Goddess of War and Wisdom. Hera would be based on Guraad.
She couldn't come up with a title for her new novel, but she did make up her mind: as soon as her father returned, she would tell him that she's moving out to live on her own.
"I quit! I had enough!" Seiya said to Dohku in the back of the restaurant.
"Why? You don't like the pay?" Dohku wasn't all that surprised.
"I'm nothing but a third wheel."
"She has another bodyguard?"
"No, it's Aiolus," Seiya said. "She's on the phone with him constantly. I have to hear it the whole time."
"Why does it bother you?" Dohku poured him a cup of hot tea and went on, "You are her bodyguard, Seiya. As her bodyguard, your job is to assure that she's safe and sound. Whoever she's talking to, that's not your concern. Remember when I trained you in martial arts? I told you that I am your kung-fu master, but not your father. I don't ask where you go after the training or who you make friends with. You were my pupil but not my son. Likewise you are her bodyguard, but not her boyfriend."
Looking at Seiya's facial expression, Dohku chuckled.
"Let me tell you something, when I first saw that girl, I got the impression that she's very scared. She didn't give me too many details but I sensed that things are more serious than they look. Now I don't know what's the dynamic between her and Aiolus, but I know Aiolus has this calmness in him that makes you feel safe and gives you hope. I guess that's why he's a criminal defense lawyer. Maybe that's what she's looking for because she needs it."
He then poured some vinegar into a small dish and placed it in front of Seiya.
"What is this?" Seiya was confused.
"Taste it," Dohku said.
Seiya did what he was told and made a face.
"That's how it feels in your heart, doesn't it?" Dohku laughed. (In Mandarin, the phrase "you are eating vinegar" means "you are jealous".)
Before Seiya could respond, Shunrei rushed to the back.
"Whoa, there was a fight. A huge guy hit a girl. I called 911."
Instantly, Dohku went to the front to see what's going on and Seiya followed.
Through the glass door, they saw Saori on the ground, unconscious with a bloody nose.
Standing next to her was none other than Cassius, still holding a fist.
