Dohku left the restaurant early. He trusted that Shunrei and Wanku could hold the fort at the Roshan House without him; plus Shiryu was there too if they needed another helping hand. He went to his SVU and found Shun and Jabu waiting for him.
Obviously, they wanted to come with him.
Dohku nodded and they climbed into his car, sitting in the back.
What had happened a couple days ago was really interesting to say at the least; it was almost a dark comedy. Seiya wanted to throw a party to celebrate Saori's 18th birthday. Then Aiolus came, and there was an obvious triangle between Saori, Aiolus, and Seiya. After Aiolus came Saori's so-called mother, Madame Guraad. The two had an intense conversation and then Madame Guraad dropped dead.
Literally .
For the first time in their lives, someone died right before their eyes.
After Dohku called 911, EMT and the police came. The police officers bombarded Saori with a series of questions, as if she had intentionally killed Guraad. After they left, Saori was on the phone with her attorney Milo for almost an hour. Dohku assured Saori that she'd be fine. "You did nothing wrong. She could have some medical issues that you don't know about. Her death has nothing to do with you."
"I hope so," Saori remained agitated. "What am I going to tell Dad after he comes back? Who's going to handle her funeral?"
Recalling how anxious she is, Dohku decided to go pay her a visit. Shun and Jabu wanted to go too. All three felt bad for Saori.
"You two lost your parents and grew up in a group home," Dohku began as he drove. "It's not a bad thing, really. Adopted family is not a real family after all. Blood is thicker than water. Shun, I know your brother is keeping his distance due to his job, but at least he wouldn't hire someone to beat you up and demand you not to file charges."
"Her dad isn't any better," Jabu added. "Seiya told me. He went to Russia and left her behind, knowing his ex-wife is up to no good. A real father wouldn't do that."
"Like I said," Dohku sighed. "Blood is thicker than water."
"I'm wondering," Shun said. "If that woman is using drugs. After all, you don't just die like that."
"Could be," Dohku nodded. "It's all in the hands of authority now."
"Poor girl," Shun said sympathetically. "One thing after another."
Dohku said nothing more. He had another reason to go to Saori's place – to talk to Seiya.
Seiya could either be Saori's boyfriend or her bodyguard.
But cannot be both.
When Dohku parked in front of the Kido mansion, all three were dazzled by the size of the house; It was huge like a European chateau. Dohku rang the doorbell at the gate, and Seiya came to let them in.
Seeing Seiya's facial expression, Dohko guessed what happened. "Aiolus is here?"
"Yeah," Seiya said as they came to the mansions' main entrance door. "She was a total mess, not eating and having nightmares. She was half-dead, and then came Aiolus. The princess came back to life like magic."
They entered the house and went to the living room. There, Saori was on the couch, talking to Aiolus. She looked rather fine and well. When she saw Dohku, she gave him a wave.
"Hi Mr. Dohku," she greeted him. "You still like me, right?"
"Of course," Dohku said. "Why would I hold any against you? Didn't I tell you the whole thing isn't your fault?"
"That's very great to hear," Saori let out a sigh of relief. "We are actually in the middle of a very important conversation, Aiolus and I. We got some diet sodas in the kitchen, caffeine free."
"Thank you for your offer," Dohku said. "Come, Seiya. Let's go grab a drink."
Dohku followed Seiya into the kitchen with Jabu and Shun. He saw that Seiya knew the house very well, as if he lived here. Shun, though, couldn't help but look back at Saori and Aiolus. He found the scene rather familiar. Aiolus wasn't the most handsome man; but when he started talking, his black eyes flashed with an attractive determination.
"My now-deceased stepmother had told me that Dad left her in a mess," Saori resumed her conversation with Aiolus. "What kind of mess could it be?"
"You don't know, and keep it that way," Aiolus advised. "Whatever it is, you don't know and you are not involved."
"Is it common that people just drop dead just like that?"
"It happens," Aiolus said. "You didn't touch her before it happened, did you?"
"No, I only pointed my finger at her. I was inches away from her."
"Then you are fine. If you are that powerful, then you are in trouble."
Now Saori laughed.
Wait…
A thought came to Shun's mind. The novel that his close friend June was reading. What is the name of that book?
Spartan something…
The Spartan Queen!
June was so obsessed with that book to the point that she doubled her shifts so that she could save enough money for a trip to Greece. Shun read it out of curiosity to see what's so fascinating about it. It didn't take him long to see why.
It's not the main character Queen Helen whom June was crazy about.
It was her right-hand man, warrior Sagittarius.
Looking at Saori and Aiolus, something clicked.
Could it be?
Meanwhile in the kitchen, Seiya poured diet cokes in wine glasses with ice for Jabu and Dohku. Then he popped open another can for himself.
"Why are you still here?" Dohku went straight to the point.
"I'm her bodyguard," Seiya said. "I need to keep an eye on her, making sure that she eats and drinks. Nothing seemed to work so I called Aiolus."
"That's not the responsibility of a bodyguard," Dohku said. "She doesn't need you anymore. Her stepmother is dead, and she got a restraining order against that man who assaulted her. Whatever is left, it's beyond your capability."
Seiya said nothing.
"You have to make a choice, Seiya," Dohku went on. "On the reason that you are staying with her. It could be any reason, but it can only be one."
"I don't know what you are talking about, old man."
"Bodyguards don't throw parties for their clients. Bodyguards don't call lawyers for the clients. Bodyguards don't care about their clients' eating or sleeping habits."
"So I should leave her?"
"That's your choice to make," Dohku said. "But be sure to know your reason."
"Princess Victoria of Sweden married her bodyguard," Shun said.
Seiya only popped open another soda.
"I guess he's still traumatized after what happened with Miho," Jabu said under his breath.
Another hour passed and Saori's conversation with Aiolus still hadn't ended.
"Aiolus sure has patience," Jabu remarked.
"Don't get me started," Seiya warned him.
Finally, Aiolus got up to leave. "Remember your drill?" He asked Saori.
"I have absolutely nothing to do with my stepmother's death," Saori repeated back to him. "If the cops come to my door, I'll tell them that I like to call my lawyer first – and that's Milo. I have the right to remain silent and Milo will do the talking."
"Good, now one last thing."
"What's that?"
"When your house got flooded, you really shouldn't call 911. You are lucky that they didn't charge you anything."
"But it was an emergency!"
"Were you drowning?"
Saori got his point, and she was all smiling. "Thanks for coming."
"Any time."
"Hey Aiolus," Shun called out to him before he could walk out the door. "What's your zodiac sign?"
"Sagittarius," Saori and Aiolus answered in unison.
That was a bit awkward.
"My favorite constellation," Saori added.
"Mine too," Seiya said.
After Aiolus left, Seiya went to Saori. "Are we all good now, murderess?"
"Very funny Seiya, but yes," Saori said and took a deep breath. She then noticed Shun and Jabu. "You're Seiya's friends?"
"Yeah," Jabu spoke. "Look, I'm here to apologize. I didn't mean it when I said 'I think she got your memo' after what happened. You didn't do anything. I'll be your star witness if the cops come after you."
"You are the last person who could hurt anyone," Shun said. "It's just a coincidence. That woman doesn't even deserve your guilt, if she did hire someone to hurt you."
"Thanks, I am better now," Saori said.
It's good to talk to some nice people.
After Dohku left with Jabu and Shun, Saori said to Seiya, "I know I said that I don't need your service anymore after my restraining order against Cassius went through. But I want to extend your bodyguard service until Dad comes back. Are you okay with that?"
"Sure," Seiya replied without a hesitation.
"Remember the DNA testing I did? To find out if my Dad is really my Dad?"
"You got the result?"
"I did."
"Was I right?"
"Well, the hair that I thought was my Dad's wasn't even a human hair," Saori told him. "So they don't have an answer. I spent the money on that for nothing. But, I do have an answer for my heritage."
"And?"
"I'm not only Greek, but Russian as well."
"So you and Aiolus are not the same nationalities then?"
"Does that make you happy?"
"It does," Seiya said. "But I still believe that Alman is your real father."
"Believing is not the same thing as knowing," Saori said.
"Whatever Aiolus says," Seiya said. "But I do know one thing."
"What is that?"
"The reason that I'm staying with you."
"What is that?" Saori waited for him to finish.
He looked at her and couldn't deny his content to see her smiling and emotionally back in shape again. "The reason I'm staying is because I like…"
And the rest couldn't come out.
"What? What do you like?"
"I like steak," he said. "With ice cream and waffles."
"Would frozen yogurts do?"
"It's getting late, princess," Seiya changed the subject. "Just remember, if the cops are here, call Milo, not Aiolus."
