Hashimoto Family Offices, Shinjuku, Tokyo, August 7th 20XX, 06:30 AM
A thick, cold fog ominously began to roll into the Tokyo Metropolis throughout early Friday morning. The heavy, late summer rainfall yesterday couldn't have come at a better time for Hiromi's group, who were all outside the front of the offices, getting ready to load themselves into the two black vans that would take them to their destinations. The Kanezaka team, led by Kuriyama, had a small window to leave by, given that Asa Yamagami - their target - would be leaving for work shortly. The Ueno team, led by Hiromi Hashimoto herself, would have a longer stakeout planned. They didn't know the ins-and-outs of what was going on in the apartment that Angela Ziegler was staying in, who may be there with her, what her schedule was, whether or not she would even still be there in the afternoon. Hiromi picked the absolute best officers she had - other than Hana - to accompany her. As she began to sit into the passenger seat of the black Toyota van, she began to think to herself that finally, after years of running and accruing millions of yen of debt on interest, the young Yamagami girl, Kiriko, would be in her grasp. If she didn't have the money to pay off her debt (which Hiromi thought was quite likely given how long she'd been hiding from them), Hiromi would have Hana deal with her in whatever way Hana wanted to. Hana was her most ruthless lieutenant by far and knew that no matter what she did, it would be something that the young Yamagami girl would never forget. Hiromi let out a small chuckle, which wasn't unnoticed by the young man in her driver's seat.
"You seem to be in quite high spirits, Hashimoto-sama" he said, turning the ignition of the van over, causing the engine to rev to life. She looked at him, smiling with a raised eyebrow, her thick red lipstick shining due to the interior light flashing on. "Why wouldn't I be? We're about to have some fun. It's been over a year since I went on an operation, it's exciting compared to being in the office or intimidating all the other family bosses" she said, lighting up a premium brand cigarette before offering one to her driver, who declined her offer, saying that he "didn't smoke around a lady". She chuckled and blushed at his comment. Despite her own persuasions, Hiromi had one fatal flaw that she couldn't ignore; any time she was complimented or felt the respect of a male underling, she - if for a brief moment, a millisecond even - froze up and lost her sense of reason. Hiromi cherished those brief moments, no matter how nonchalant they may have been. She quickly adjusted herself in her seat as she watched Kuriyama's van speed off in the direction of Kanezaka, taking a drag from her cigarette. It was going to be a long day for her and everyone involved in the operation, but she was sure that it was going to be worth it. She picked up her phone and began to text Hana, who was still at her apartment nearby. She didn't know the ins-and-outs of what Hana was going to be doing at the Hanamura Gardens, but she trusted Hana's instincts and loyalty.
Hana-chan betraying me is impossible, that red-haired woman promised me so, and she's been ever so good in obeying my direct commands…she's a perfect plaything. Much better than that last woman I had…Hana-chan actually listens to me!
"Hashimoto-sama?" the driver asked, pulling Hiromi back out of her thoughts once again.
"Y-Yes?" she said, trying to sound proper.
"Shall we head to the observation point?" asked the driver, tapping his index finger on the steering wheel impatiently. Hiromi sighed with relief, and waved him off.
"Yeah, let's begin the operation."
Kanezaka District, Tokyo, 06:50 AM
The chill of the fog caught Asa Yamagami by surprise as she left her home and made her way towards the Kanezaka train station. NHK TV reported it would be thick throughout the morning and that even in the afternoon it would still have a presence (though visibility would be much improved, which she was somewhat thankful for as an officer). She knew the beginning of the day was going to be rife with traffic problems that she would have to delegate to many of her colleagues at the station. As a secretary officer, she had only completed basic training which meant all the nitty gritty work was left for the fully trained officers while she had to deal with basic reports, paperwork and administrative work. It wasn't what she truly wanted at this stage in her life, but ever since her daughter moved out of her home a few years ago, she knew that she didn't need to waste as much time as she previously had in making sure she was perfectly ready for any and all possible self-defense situations. Asa knew she had been lax with her training lately, but Kiriko was safe where she was, and the Hashimoto had been leaving Asa alone for years now. She kept up some basic practices, but only to keep her fitness levels high in case of an emergency at work. Nevertheless, she had to be careful when leaving her home. Kanezaka's ever changing reputation was going more and more toward the negative every day, and for good reason. Ever since the Hashimoto's take over of the area, petty crime and illegal organised crime activity had skyrocketed by 400%, and even an officer of the law such as Asa couldn't do much to fight back by herself. The local police box - or Koban - was rarely ever manned, usually only on a Saturday night when the nearby club would be packed full of young, dumb college students going for cheap drinks. Despite her pleas to her higher ups at work to try and do something about the freefalling reputation of Kanezaka, the Tokyo Government wouldn't allocate any more resources to the area as they deemed it as "not important enough" to "divert already barren resources towards". Asa knew that the government was full of shit. The central office had plenty of officers who were just twiddling their thumbs awaiting deployment to Koban boxes, but nobody had an interest in going to Kanezaka or anywhere really near the Hanamura area. Despite how modern the central Hanamura gardens had become in the last few years, every other part of the district looked like it had seen better days, from the back alleys to the central streets to the train stations.
Things wouldn't have been like this if I was just stronger, for everyone, not just for Kiriko. That damn man, leaving me and her to deal with his mess…Asa thought of her ex-husband, the man who left his family after his debts with the Hashimoto clan had become too big to ignore, and all Asa could remember him by were his last words to her.
"I wish that I could turn back time, and make things different, for Kiriko more than anything. I'm sorry Asa. I really loved you more than anything else"
Not enough to give up your addictions though…she thought, shaking her head, trying to refocus herself on the journey ahead of her. It was only a few minutes of a walk until she arrived at the train station.
Men…heh, Kiriko also struggles with them too…I should text her later to see if she wan-
"MMMMMMMMFFFF!" Asa's muffled voice screamed as loud as it could as she felt someone grab her from behind and gag her mouth with a cloth, smelling of thick chemicals. Her vision quickly went black as a blindfold was thrown over her face and the chemical smell was all she could think about. The nauseating smell overwhelmed her and soon enough, Asa was unconscious, the last thing she felt was the cold feeling of metal against her back and the slamming of what sounded like a car door as she faded into a deep sleep.
"Contact Hashimoto-sama, Kojima-kun" said the burly Kuriyama, wiping down his hands and taking off his face mask. "Tell her that Asa Yamagami isn't going to be making it to the office today, hehe" he said with a smirk as he sat down in the passenger's seat. The body of Asa Yamagami laid in front of him, motionless aside from her breathing. The operation went as smoothly as planned, which irked him a little bit considering that Hana was the one who planned it. Kuriyama knew though that, hatred for Hana aside, things were going in a good direction for the family in general.
That new Talon contract…it's gonna make us pretty fucking rich. Twenty million US Dollars. How the fuck do they get that money anyways? Is it just through sex, weapons and drug traffickin'? They were about to go under a few years ago too. Big power struggle from what I recall…but Hashimoto-sama trusts that Akande guy. I dunno what her end goal is but I trust her as I have done my whole entire life until now.
Kuriyama's thoughts were interrupted by a text from Hiromi.
"Well done. I'll keep you posted on how things will go on my end"
"Short and sweet as ever, heh" Kuriyama chuckled. Kojima turned the van out of Kanezaka and began heading back towards Shinjuku. They would need to be quick in order to make sure nobody saw their van in the area, as low as those chances may have already been thanks to the fog, Kuriyama didn't want any more trouble than they were already going to cause with having captured Asa. They just needed to lay low for a while, and the office was the perfect place to do so.
Shimada Institute - Ikebukuro Branch, Ikebukuro, Tokyo, 09:45 AM
"So, you two had a big fight last night, huh?" Genji asked the sullen looking Jesse McCree, staring at the Peacekeeper revolver in his right hand with a feeling of immense guilt rotting its way throughout his entire being. The Japanese businessman put down a small cup of coffee beside McCree, who looked up at him, trying to find the words of appreciation but failing to come up with any.
"Ye-yeah, we did. I snapped at Angela. I shouldn't have gone that far but…"
"Jesse, it's not your fault. Angela's far too sensitive to be involved with any of this, and arguably too young" Genji said solemnly. "What happened to her in Korea, and what she saw too was too much for her, especially at only eighteen years of age." Genji said with regret in his voice. He knew the burden all too well. As the leader of the Busan Operation and Task Force 141 on that day, everything that happened and every decision made fell onto him. He thought he was way in over his head, bringing four random children along on a counter-terrorist operation as full operatives and thinking it would be a success given their latent talent and intelligence. The operation was a success, but the cost was too great. Lena Oxton died. Genji couldn't handle the thought of ever showing his face in America again after what was called "the botch job of the century" and he promptly stepped away from the UN's frontline to go back into administrative work. He hated it, but it was safe for him. Safe to know that he couldn't hurt anyone again here.
And yet, Angela Ziegler's pain kept resurfacing, causing Genji to question everything he'd known about his work and life.
"Angela's a good person, but she cannot handle the pain well, at all. She's seen so much, and now with Hana back in their lives…those memories from eight years ago are beginning to come back and haunt her and Jonathan. Ksou…(Damn)" he mumbled.
"We still have…no idea on how Hana even got her sister to do what she did in the first place, do we?" asked the cowboy, slotting his revolver back into its holster that he had concealed beneath his black leather jacket.
"Zero idea. Jiyeon Song was a world renowned K-Pop artist who is still considered "missing" by the Korean authorities after leaving her home in Busan, leaving no evidence or trace of her whereabouts whatsoever. Nothing even on CCTV at airports in Korea or Japan. Something doesn't add up. She would have been easily recognised anywhere she went…" Genji couldn't figure it out from top to bottom. The Shimada Institute were seemingly the only people who knew that Jiyeon was the one who died all those years ago; not Hana. Hana's death wasn't even publicised either, a detail McCree thought was odd. Her fanbase on Twitch was ravenous and her sudden absence from the internet caused thousands of posts and trends online to ponder what had happened to her. Now that they knew the truth, the tenacity of Hana Song was truly not to be underestimated.
"I just hope Bigshot's alright with that kid…Kiriko or somethin' was her name, Hanzo mentioned she was a test subject for a new version of the Archaeon program."
"Her mother insisted that we did something to help Kiriko, and I was in her debt at the time…I didn't have a choice," Genji said.
"Seems she doesn't like yer brother much. She doesn't seem to mind you though" said McCree.
"Hanzo and Asa - Kiriko's mother - go way back. Hanzo had a chance to help the Yamagami's through a rough patch but he couldn't…"
"...couldn't, or wouldn't?"
"Ah…a bit of both I guess. He genuinely didn't have the strength to help them out but…he didn't even try at all. That gang, the Hashimoto, were harassing them and Hanzo had the chance to help them get away from it all…but a target could have been painted on his back. He didn't want that risk."
"I getcha…hmph, I guess the kid's got a lot of growing up to do" said McCree, taking a sip from the cup on the table, the warm earthy notes of the coffee hitting his palette in a way that agreed with him ever so well.
"She does but she's stronger than you think. She's put in a lot of work to make sure she can keep herself out of trouble, but also fend for herself if needs be, besides, I know - at least in theory - what the Archaeon does to her" said Genji, sitting down across from McCree was the table.
"Oh really? Well, you've certainly got my attention. I'm all ears Genji, what does that girl have in her?"
"She's the first subject that hasn't shown a complete lapse in her mental consciousness, as in she has not developed another personality or let her control of her mind slip to her innate power" the man from Japan explained. McCree's brow furrowed, his interest peaking.
"You mean to tell me that she seemingly has all those alleged benefits with zero downsides or side effects?"
"Only allegedly. Kiriko refused to awaken her Archaeon in front of us, but the physiological data extracted from her test stated that she knows how to awaken it at will and successfully has at least once."
"Oh…brother…that's intense," said McCree, bewildered.
"But…if she's got all that power that she can just use at will…why does she train so hard to better herself?" Genji looked over at McCree in response to his question, a small glint of fear shone through his eyes as he looked at the cowboy.
"She trains because the Archaeon power could be too much for her if she doesn't control herself. She could end up killing herself or people around her."
"But you said that-"
"Yes but she said that she couldn't trust her power, though now it's too late to run from it…she's bonded to it, forever now.
"Genji…are we doing the right thing?"
"I don't know Jesse, I don't know. All I know now is that we need to make sure Jonathan is safe and kept away from Hana."
Cujoh Apartment, Ueno, Tokyo, 12:05PM
The silence that dominated Jonathan's apartment was broken up by the loud stirring of a ceramic cup, as Angela Ziegler went about her ritualistic afternoon brewing up a cup of her favourite instant coffee in the world, the cold fog outside, finally starting to thin out a little bit, was only making the cup in her hand feel even warmer. As the sweet aroma of the ground up beans drifted through her nostrils, filling them with its complex perfume, her mind began to wander - as it often did lately. Last night was rough, she knew that. Her argument with McCree was perhaps too far, but he pressed her way too hard. Lena's death wasn't to be taken lightly, but Angela knew that deep down, perhaps Jesse was right. Still though, Lena's place in her heart and her memories was irreplaceable, though Angela felt that the former was being questioned lately. Every now and then, flashes of Vivian Chase's muscular, naked ebony body would swim through her mind and make her heart skip a beat for just a moment.
Love or Lust, the eternal question…
No! She is merely my outlet. My comfort zone. My way of escaping from those nightmares. A quick fix. A toy to play with. She's there to make me feel alive, nothing more, nothing less.
…But, I…
*knock knock knock*
Angela's turmoil filled thoughts were washed away by a sudden, and somewhat aggressive sounding, knock at the front door.
"I wonder who that could be…probably Jonathan after forgetting his phone charger or something like that, that silly man…sometimes I'm not sure why I even bother" she said, shaking her head as she approached the front door. Before opening it, she peeped through the peephole.
"Who is this…" she whispered to herself, noticing a small Asian woman and a taller, more muscular looking Asian man standing outside dressed in a smart looking black suit. Angela tepidly opened the front door, seeing the woman beam a smile at her.
"Ah, is this…Jonathan Cujoh's residence?" asked the woman, looking up from a piece of paper in her hand.
"Uhh, y-yes" Angela said nervously in Japanese.
"Ah, perfect!" the woman walked into the apartment behind Angela, leaving Angela between her and the man outside.
"You must be Angela Ziegler, yes? Former UCLA Graduate, a prodigy doctor and the pride of the Swiss Medical System…a very impressive resumé, hmm?" she said, coyly smiling at Angela.
Who the hell is this woman? This is bad…
Angela quickly turned around in an attempt to leave, but was blocked by the man now standing firmly in the apartment's door frame. He pushed himself inside the apartment, closing the door behind him.
"And who might you be?" she asked, trying to feign a strong face.
"Ah, pardon my lack of manners, how rude of me! The gentleman behind you is my associate, Tozawa" the man named Tozawa gave a small nod of his head. "And I am Hiromi of the Hashimoto family, a pleasure to make your acquaintance" said the woman named Hiromi, bowing at Angela.
"H-Hashimoto?"
"Oh? You know my family? Trust me, our reputation isn't all that bad, we're quite a welcoming group of people actually" said Hiromi, glancing around the apartment.
"What do you want from me?" asked Angela, unsure of what was going on, though she knew that whatever it was, it wasn't good.
"Well, I was hoping that you'd come work for me! We'd offer you a beautiful apartment, fair pay AND protec-"
"That all sounds lovely but I am much more comfortable in my current position, thank you very much" Angela said sternly.
"Ah but you see Angela, when I said "hoping" you'd come work for me, I meant that you "are" working for me now. Tozawa."
"Wh-"
An immense pain struck Angela in her head as her body collapsed to the floor, her last thought before unconsciousness struck was that of Vivian Chase's laugh.
Hanamura National Gardens, Tokyo, 15:03 PM
"Dude it's soooo cold out herrrreeee" moaned out Kiriko as her and Jonathan arrived at the Hanamura Gardens. Despite the fog thinning out quite a bit, visibility was still somewhat poor compared to usual with them only being able to see maybe twenty or so meters ahead of them clearly.
"Oh come on, or maybe we should go to a more expensive place for this date you're bringin' me on, hmm?" Jonathan teased Kiriko, giggling slightly at her discomfort. She pouted back at him as they entered the main complex, which looked completely different to the last time Jonathan was here eight years ago, playing hide and seek of all things with Hana, Lena and Angela.
Hana…are you really here, waiting for me?
Jonathan and Kiriko looked around the immense trees in the middle of the Centre and despite their cherry blossom leaves having fallen for a few months now, their immense size and presence were sights to behold in of themselves.
"Do you think that these cherry blossom trees are older than the city itself?" Jonathan asked Kiriko, who was caught off guard by his sudden question.
"I mean, I would guess so. They gotta be older than all these buildings around here" she said, readjusting her face mask, still trying to remain hidden from any prying eyes that the Hashimoto may have around. "I mean look at that HUUUGE dome over there!" Kiriko said, pointing over Jonathan's shoulder at a massive looking dome, one that was at least ten times larger than any stadium he'd ever seen. It was something that wasn't here the last time he visited, and he was curious to see what it was.
"How have I never seen this place before?" he asked out loud, though he meant it more to himself than to Kiriko.
"It's apparently not open yet" Kiriko said, looking at a nearby information board. "It's apparently a state of the art visitor experience, with over one million QLED screens installed with a unique water feature to create an "unforgettable atmosphere and experience"...whatever that means" Kiriko said snarkily, before feeling an all too familiar urge overcome her.
"Shit, I gotta go pee, I think I saw a bathroom nearby" said Kiriko. "Wait here for me, 'kay" she said smiling at him.
"I don't think I have a choice, haha" he chuckled at her as she went towards the entrance. Jonathan looked out over the manmade lake towards the huge dome, apparently named the "Sojiro Memorial Arena", and leaned against the railing with his elbows. The cold began to chill him again as the wind kicked up a bit around him. It was not a great day for an outdoor date, but that was the least of his worries. However, he didn't see Hana anywhere. He didn't have much vision, true, but he'd have expected to see her near the bell by the entrance or the large cherry blossom tree in the middle of the Centre. Perhaps…it was all a joke of some kind? A test from the Shimada's and Angela? He closed his eyes as the rustling of the leaves in the low, howling wind around him gave him a sense of inner peace that was unlike anything he'd felt in a while, though that immersion was shattered quickly by the sounds of footsteps coming from his right hand side, stopping shortly before reaching him. He opened his eyes and turned right, thinking he was about to see Kiriko come back, but it was someone else. Another woman.
It was as if he was in an ethereal dream, like reality had faded away into some kind of lucid version of itself. Her figure was still as beautiful as it was the last time he saw her seven or so years ago. Her porcelain skin, her deep hazel eyes, her slender waist, wide hips and ample chest all were a sight that he'd thought he'd forgotten. Despite her dark black suit being something he never expected her to wear, she seemed as if she was glowing against the thick grey fog surrounding them. He couldn't believe what he was seeing in front of him. The woman that caused him to move all the way here in the first place. The person who he thought he could trust more than anyone else. The woman whose heart he was trapped in for what felt like centuries.
"Y-Y-Y-You're…"
"Hello, Jonathan. It's been a while. I don't look like a…ghost, do I?" the woman said to him with a cheeky smile.
"No, it can't be…y-y-you're su-su-supp-supposed to b-b-be d-d-d-dead!" he whimpered out in absolute disbelief, causing her to chuckle at him.
"No no no, silly! I didn't die, although my sister DID put on the performance of a lifetime, bravo to her!" the woman said excitedly, clapping her hands.
"Wh..what…" Jonathan could barely stand via his own strength. His willpower was quickly fading away.
"Oh? Those people at the Shimada Institute didn't tell you? I thought they would have figured it out by now!" she said with curiosity.
"Jonathan, I didn't die seven years ago…see?" she walked up beside him and gently laid her right hand onto his cheek.
"I'm real" she said, smiling directly into his eyes.
"I'm glad you got my letter, though unfortunately for us, our reunion can't last too long. I have things to do and places to be, more old friends to…catch up with, hehe" she giggled before pulling herself very close to him, their faces inches apart.
"Oh I could devour you at this very moment if I wanted to, and believe me Jonathan Cujoh, I really want to" she said, pressing her left index finger slightly against his crotch. "But that can wait, it seems that your little…plaything will be back any second now, so this will have to do me for now" she said, leaning in to kiss him softly on his lips, planting her cherry flavoured lip gloss onto his lips and pressing her tongue ever so slightly against his, though he didn't respond at all.
"You'll be a good…pet, one day Jonathan…I love you" said Hana Song, before turning away and walking off in the direction she came from, vanishing into the fog.
Jonathan hurriedly tried to call Angela's phone, but to no avail. Kiriko walked back over to him two minutes later, shock still plastered on his face, his trauma screaming its pain at him.
"J-Jonathan!" she cried out. "What the fuck happened?!"
"K…..Kirko….i saw…"
"What? Tell me baby, please! I'm here for you…please Jonathan" she pleaded with him, looking right into his scarred heart with her own.
"I saw….Ha...na"
Kiriko's eyes went from anguished to angered as violence began to build up within her.
Hana Song had done her dirty. And now she wanted to see her, face to face. With a deep breath, Kiriko screamed out two words that echoed throughout the Hanamura Gardens with such force that she was certain anyone within miles of the area could hear it.
"HANA SONG!"
