Chapter 4: The Start of Something

Manuelmusical14: Thx

Guest: You'll see soon enough

When Sunday came, Joe made his way to the subway and caught the next ride to Brooklyn. He was looking forward to seeing Annie again, and being able to have a real conversation with her. After a while, the subway stopped, and he got off.

He walked through the station, and went up the stairs. Upon stepping out into the sun, he looked around, and then he saw her waiting for him. He walked up to her, and smiled.

"Hi, Annie." he greeted.

Annie looked at him, and smiled back.

"Joe, glad you made it." she told him.

The two then made their way down the sidewalk.

"So where's this little cafe you told me about?" Joe wondered.

"It's right here." Annie told him.

They were standing in front of nice looking southern bistro. It was called "A Little Bit of South". They went inside, got a table, and waited for the waiter. Joe ordered some shrimp and grits and Annie got a chicken pot pie.

"So Joe, how long have you lived in New York?"

"All my life. Born and raised in the city."

"I see. I was born in New York, but when I was 6 I moved down to Georgia and then when I was 10, we moved back."

"Wow, interesting."

Soon their food came, and they started eating.

"So Annie, since you're a part time potter what's your main job?"

"I'm a secretary at a law firm."

"How's that job?"

"It's not too bad. I get to work with my best friend, Brittany. What about being a teacher?"

"It's nice being a teacher. At first I wasn't really appreciative of it, but now I realize that being a teacher is my spark."

"That's quite a statement."

"Yeah, I don't mean to sound too preachy...but it's true."

"No, it's fine. That's actually a pretty inspirational."

Joe smiled at hearing that, and continued eating.

After eating their food, they decided to go for a little walk.

"Do you have any family around here?" Annie questioned.

"Oh yeah, I have a mother."

"I have a mom and a dad, they live in the suburbs of Brooklyn."

"It's nice having relatives close, don't you think?" Joe wondered.

"Yeah, sometimes. But it can be a little too much."

"(Chuckles), I can relate to that."

The two then laughed, and headed back to the subway station.

"I had a really nice time, Joe." Annie told him.

"So did I. You...think we can do it again sometime?" Joe wondered.

"Yeah, I'd like that. Maybe I can come visit your side of New York."

"Sounds like a plan."

And then they parted ways. Joe got on his subway, and waved goodbye to Annie as it took off.

Later that day, Joe was in a good mood. When he went to go visit his mom, he stepped into the shop with a smile.

"Hey, Joey." greeted Lulu and Melba.

"Hey ya'll." Joe greeted back.

He then kissed Melba on the cheek.

"Thank you, but I wouldn't mind having another one of those other kisses you gave me." Joe looked awkward.

"Uh, sorry Melba but I wasn't in my right mind that time."

She playfully hit him.

"So Joe, you seem happy. Anything interesting happen today?" Libba wondered.

Joe looked awkward, and then found his voice.

"Well Mom since you asked, I was out with someone earlier."

That got the attention of the three older ladies.

"And who was this someone?" Lulu inquired.

He looked at them, who looked very curious.

"(Sighs), her name's Annie."

Hearing that, the ladies looked shocked, and then Melba and Lulu started squealing. They both hurried over to Joe, and threw their arms around him.

"This is so exciting." squealed Lulu.

"She's pretty isn't she?" Melba wanted to know.

"Girls, calm down." Libba told them.

Then she looked towards her son.

"Who is this Annie, Joe?"

Joe began explaining that he'd met Annie while on a field trip, and that she lived in Brooklyn.

"And we had brunch and took a walk."

"Do you plan on seeing her again?" Libba wanted to know.

"Well...actually I'd like to." he confessed.

Libba looked a bit suspicious, but then she smiled.

"Well I look forward to meeting her sometime."

Back in Brooklyn, Annie was talking on the phone with Brittany.

"So how'd it go?" Brittany wanted to know.

"It was really nice. Joe seems like such a nice guy." replied Annie.

"(Squeals), girl this could be big."

"I don't know, Brittany. We've only had one outing together."

"Well have you at least told your parents about him?"

"Not yet. This is a pretty delicate situation after all."

"I understand. What do you think about it?"

"It seems nice and this could be good for me."

"Yeah, and plus...you know."

"I know. But luckily I'm not going to let it happen again."
