It was another evening at the Ketchum household and everyone was getting ready for bed. Likewise, Pikachu and Buneary were getting their two daughters ready, even if Mimi scoffed at that since she felt that she was old enough to stay late. Roll, being the joyful bunny she was known to be, was more than happy to get tucked in and kissed on the forehead by her mother.
Mimi sighed and decided that she may as well fall asleep and dream about eating an endless supply of ketchup when she was interrupted by the sound of her sister.
»Mom, Dad, can you please tell us another bed time story?« Roll asked as Mimi sighed.
Roll loved to be told bed time stories, the younger of the two daughters always falling asleep after hearing one. Mimi only cared for the ones where her dad recalled the amazing battles he had while he and their mom were adventuring though it always got her so excited that couldn't sleep during the night and a lot of times, Mimi would get in trouble for sleeping in late.
She opened one eye to see Pikachu thinking of a battle he hadn't already told them about when Buneary stopped him.
»Honey, I think I know a perfect story that we can tell them.« She said before hugging his side.
Pikachu gave her an interested look. »Oh? Which one?« He asked her as he quickly nuzzled her cheek.
Buneary giggled at both his touch and the slight static spark that emanated. »Of how we got together.« She suggested (or replied).
Roll quickly squealed. »Yay! Mommy and daddy falling in love!« She excitedly said, making her parents chuckle at her. Mimi's ears also twitched at that since she didn't know any details, only that they met for the first time in Sinnoh...and then how she froze everyone. Mimi chuckled to herself but was nonetheless amused and listened carefully.
It was a usual day in Sinnoh as Pikachu was training with Ash in preparation for his seventh gym badge. The two were working extra hard to prepare for it.
»Alright everyone, we're taking a break!« Ash said and all of them sighed, relieved about finally getting some rest.
After some time, they separated into groups with some either playing and others conversing with each other, Pikachu himself was in a small group consisting of Piplup and Buizel. He wanted to talk about the next battle but Piplup had other ideas…
»So when are you asking her out?« Piplup asked with a smirk.
»I have no idea what you're talking about Pip.« Pikachu replied, looking away to steal a glance at Buneary, hoping that she didn't hear them with her sensitive ears. Thankfully, she was too busy conversing with Togetic and Pachirisu, judging by all of her gushing and giggling. He felt his cheeks heating up. »Look, I can't just ask her out like that. We can't even go on a date here.« He said.
Buizel smirked in response. »Oh, so that means you were thinking about it huh? You really are smitten huh Pikachu?« Buizel laughed, tapping his shoulder twice and grinning widely.
»No I wasn't.« Pikachu sighed, but Buizel ignored him.
»You know, there's a nice lake with some flowers close by that I saw before we got to training. I'm sure she would love it there.« Buizel said, holding his smirk. »I'm sure you'd love to get your paws on her…« He laughed, making Pikachu's face grow warmer.
Piplup chuckled. »Oh with those glances you were giving her, I wouldn't be surprised!«
»You know I care about her more than that right?« Pikachu said, bemused by how childish they were acting.
»If you care so much about her, ask her out. C'mon, she clearly likes you!« Piplup said while Buizel nodded and made approving sounds. Pikachu just sighed at them.
»Piplup told me how protective you looked at the mansion with that rotom, or when you went into space with an evil togepi and how much you held each other. Face it dude, you like her.« Buizel said, dropping his teasing tone and becoming more serious.
»Fine, but only to shut you up…« Pikachu said before walking over to Buneary. Along the way, he tried steeling his nerves.
Behind him, Piplup and Buizel fist bumped each other.
»See? I told you being more assertive would work.« Buizel said, looking proud.
»Oh shut up…« Piplup said, rolling his eyes.
Pikachu was murmuring to himself. »Just ask her out, how hard can it be?« He mused aloud but the closer he walked to her, the more nervous he got and he turned around to see Piplup and Buizel smirking, giving him a »go on« motion with their arms. Pikachu rolled his eyes at them and took a deep breath to compose himself when he was suddenly interrupted.
»Oh hey Pikachu, what's up?« Pachirisu called out to him, which caught him off guard.
»Uhh...ehm, hi...umm...«He stammered before glancing at Buneary. She was smiling at him with a faint blush across her face that only deepened when she locked eyes with him. She gasped and shyly looked at the ground.
Pikachu coughed. »So, what are you girls chatting about?« He asked, trying to get a conversation started.
»Oh, just the grand festival…« Togetic said which didn't surprise Pikachu. Eventually, he managed to join in on the conversation and were soon going over different topics yet it always focused on contests. Eventually, Pikachu managed to speak up when they mentioned the Hearthome Festival, trying to steer the subject on to a certain individual.
»Yeah, you looked amazing back at Hearthome Buneary« Pikachu said, smiling at her.
Buneary's face grew red. »Thank you….Pikachu.« She said, clearly embarrassed before pulling her fluff to cover her blushing face.
Pikachu smiled; she always did look cute when she did that. Pikachu stopped his thoughts at that and mentally sighed. Piplup and Buizel were right huh? He also remembered why he came to them in the first place...they probably think he chickened out or something.
Purely to spite them, Pikachu took a deep breath. When he saw an opportunity to not interrupt the girls he started.
»Hey Buneary?« He asked, getting her attention.
Buneary looked his way and smiled at him. »Yes Pikachu?« She asked back, her eyes sparkling a little. Pikachu had to mentally shake his head as he would at times get distracted by them.
»So I was thinking if you would...wanna hang out?« He asked as Buneary confusedly tilted her head but still keeping a smile on her face.
»Ehm, aren't we already?« She chuckled as Pikachu cursed himself for sounding so silly.
»No I meant like… alone… in private?« He said, slowly looking away as he himself began to blush.
Buneary kept her head tilted, her expression turning in to one of wonder for a split second before she gasped. Her face was fully red and she started fidgeting as she realized what he meant.
»L-L-Like a date?« She stuttered, which made the other two girls' mouths drop at what they were witnessing.
Thankfully for Pikachu's sake, nobody else seemed to notice.
»Y-Y-Yes?« He asked, mustering all of his courage to look at her.
Buneary squealed out of absolute jubilation and hugged him tight. »Oh I would love to!« She exclaimed. Pikachu was both too shocked and embarrassed to hug back as the others noticed the squealing bunny tightly embracing him.
»Great, I know a place we can go to. « He said as Buneary pulled back. Still, he offered her a paw to hold. She happily squealed again and took his paw before leaning against his side as they walked away from the campsite.
»I can't believe he actually did it.« Piplup said in slight disbelief.
The two lovebirds settled down near a sparkling river with an emerald, green glow.
»Wow, this water looks beautiful…« Buneary said, leaning against Pikachu as she enjoyed the surrounding nature.
Pikachu chuckled, contemplating on how to continue the conversation but all he could see is the cute bunny leaning against him. He looked at the water and got an idea.
»So you wanna go for a swim?« He asked before she looked at him.
»I dunno, it looks kinda cold-eeeep!« She yelped as Pikachu tugged her into the water with a splash. Pikachu laughed as they both resurfaced. »Pikachu!« She yelled before splashing him. »That's what you get for your little stunt!« She said before getting splashed back. »Come here you!« She shouted as a splash fight ensued.
Both were giggling as they played in the water, sometimes dunking each other. Before long, they were soon catching their breaths and laying near the shore. Both Pokémon were laughing but suddenly blushed upon realizing how close they were. Pikachu saw that he was holding her by her hips which upon realising, took them off.
»Sorry about that.« He nervously said, his face as red as it can be.
Buneary's face was also quite red and then Pikachu offered his paw to her to help her out of the water which she gladly took. Once again their faces were close as Pikachu was still holding her paw before quickly letting it go.
»Sorry…« He said again but was then surprised when Buneary leaned against him and gave him a quick peck on the cheek.
Pikachu's ears sprung up with his blush darkening.
»Thanks for the date. I had an amazing time.« Buneary softly said to him.
Pikachu swallowed hard. »That's good, hopefully we can have more dates later?« He asked, to which she nodded and took his paw as they walked back to camp.
Later that day, most of the Pokémon were back in their Pokéballs leaving only Pikachu and Piplup. The penguin, of course, kept asking him about the date, including how it went and if they did something naughty. The mere implication that they would do something like that so fast only served to confuse and horrify the poor mouse. Even if she is a bunny…
Soon, Pikachu managed to stop what he felt was an awkward conversation before they parted ways, promising Piplup to divulge more details in the near future. Having a bit more time for himself now, all the mouse could think about was how their date went. He had to admit that he really enjoyed spending time with her even before this date. Besides, she looked so cute when she was angry at him for getting her wet.
Pikachu blushed at that thought for two main reasons. He groaned at himself for thinking about...that but he was already determined to ask her out more often. She seemed very excited about it so...maybe the guys were right?
He groaned again but he decided not to think about that and instead be on the lookout while they were on the road to spend time with her.
As they were making more progress in both the contests and gym battles, Pikachu always found opportunities to ask Buneary out. Whether it was a nice meadow, lake, river or just a walk through the forest, Buneary was always up for it, always ready to spend some alone time with him.
Pikachu couldn't lie to himself no longer. He had to admit that he really enjoyed being around her and that he REALLY did like her. Of course, the boys would never stop teasing him if he said that out loud. There was already a lot of gossip about them given how often they started hanging out alone whenever they could, but he decided to ignore them. As for Buneary, she either ignored it as well or was too oblivious to notice. No matter what, she was always smiling around him and enjoyed every second being alone with him, something that Pikachu definitely noticed which only made him feel warm inside.
Now with all of the gyms done and the grand festival behind them plus the league not starting in a long time, Ash and the gang decided to go on a bit of a vacation outside of Sinnoh. Pikachu didn't know about where exactly they were going, but while on the plane, the mouse managed to read the brochure Ash had, swiping it out of his bag while their trainers were asleep.
Pikachu saw a nice picture of a church on a little island and read over it.
»Hmm...maybe I can take Buneary here?« He said to himself before he soon drifted off to sleep with the others.
Pikachu was in awe at where they were. It was similar to Sinnoh with the mountains and colder weather yet the atmosphere was completely different. They explored the little towns and eventually came to one that Pikachu recognised in the pictures and had to seize his chance. He jumped off of Ash's shoulder and onto Dawn's bag.
»Hey! Pikachu what the heck?!« Dawn yelled as Pikachu managed to grab Buneary's Pokéball. Dawn looked at him unamused. »You know you could've just asked right?« She said to him, her hands on her hips.
»Love makes you do crazy things!« Brock chuckled, making Dawn sigh.
Ash was clearly confused by what was happening. Pikachu then released Buneary who was a bit confused as well. Pikachu pointed to the landmark that he saw on the plane. Buneary looked at it and nodded, smiling brightly.
»You're lucky you two are cute…« Dawn said as she was fixing up her bag. »Well you two have fun… just don't bring us back any eggs…« She teased, making them both blush as they ran off together.
»Why eggs?« Ash asked as Pikachu and Buneary went on their little date.
To say that Buneary was loving it would be an understatement. She lovingly embraced Pikachu's right arm as they walked around the large lake. Other humans and Pokémon passing by looked at the two as they were just so adorable together. All the while, Buneary was enjoying the scenery. She loved the beautiful lake, the church on top of a rock and the tall snowy mountains surrounding the horizon. She felt like she was in a fairy tale with her own prince by her side. She happily nuzzled Pikachu's cheek even if he felt a bit embarrassed when she did this in public. Regardless, he was actually getting a bit used to it. After all, it made him feel lucky that he had someone like her by his side.
What grabbed Buneary's attention the most was the little island in the middle of the lake that looked like it held a church.
»Huh, I wonder how we get there?« She asked, pointing towards it.
Pikachu looked towards the island and made a humming sound before looking around a bit.
»Oh look.« He said, pointing towards several rowing boats. There was even a miniature version that appeared to be designed for smaller Pokémon like them. Pikachu turned back towards Buneary and saw her giving him a pleading look. He knew her too well and understood exactly what she wanted. »Oh what the heck, let's go!« He said, grabbing her paw as they ran towards the boats.
The boat ride was free as long as they returned within an hour and did the rowing themselves to which Pikachu was more than willing to do in order to give Buneary a chance to admire more scenery. While Pikachu was rowing towards the island, Buneary couldn't help but admire his strength. True eye candy for her for those 10 minutes!
As they arrived, they admired the building and its architecture as Buneary noticed the stairs towards the church.
»Wow…« She said, eyeing them.
Pikachu meanwhile was reading about them and their meaning on a sign. »Huh, interesting…« He said to himself as he continued to read. He then got an idea and gave a cheeky grin before looking at Buneary who was waiting for him.
Buneary, still lost in her own world, yelped as she was suddenly scooped up bridal-style by Pikachu.
»Need a lift?« He asked with a toothy grin as she blushed bright red being carried like that.
»If you insist…« She quietly said and wrapped her arms around his neck as Pikachu started to walk up the stairs. As they continued to make their way up the stairs, Pikachu couldn't help but just be glad that they were alone on the island in that moment.
Ninety-nine steps later, they reached the top and Pikachu set her down. Both were red in the face and holding each other close. He didn't know if what the sign said about the stairs were true but regardless wanted to try out the local tradition. He still felt excited about it as their faces were almost touching.
Just as Pikachu wanted to pull away, Buneary stopped him by planting her lips on his and making him stop in place as his eyes went wide at her sudden lunge. He didn't resist the kiss before Buneary pulled away, her face redder than ever.
»That's a thank you for carrying me!« She giggled before hugging him tight.
Pikachu's brain needed a moment to reboot before he smiled and hugged her back. Only one thing went through his mind. »Yeah, this thing is official now«.
Later, Pikachu wasn't very lucky because just when the Sinnoh league got started, Buneary fell very ill and would not be able to cheer them on during the league. It was so bad in fact, that she even had to stay in the Pokémon Center through some of it. Thankfully, things got better and by the time Ash's team were eliminated by Tobias, she was already almost back to full health.
Unfortunately, Pikachu's luck still didn't turn around as all plans tumbled with Buneary getting a modeling job for Poké Chic. He truly was happy for her though in reality, he was smiling through the pain that was filling his heart. Piplup however, didn't take it very well and broke down. After the penguin's tantrum was dealt with, Pikachu himself couldn't hold back tears either.
It was a very emotional day but in his mind, Pikachu made a very important decision: It was now or never. The day before they were to leave for Kanto, Pikachu asked Buneary to meet him on the roof of Dawn's house that night.
They leaned against each other on the roof, both enjoying each other's presence for what seemed to be the last day in a long time. Pikachu thought about how to start his plan but Buneary spoke first.
»I can't believe we won't be able to see each other…« She sadly said.
Pikachu pulled her in a little closer. »Yeah… I'll try to call you as often as possible.« He said to which she nodded and hugged him even tighter. Her face looked rather sad as she buried her face in his fur. Pikachu took a deep breath. »Hey Buneary?« He initiated.
Buneary looked up at him, tears clearly in her eyes. »Yes Pikachu?« She asked back. Pikachu then grabbed her paw and stood her up with him.
He took a deep breath. »I've made a very important decision… about us…« He said. Buneary was in shock. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Both her heart and mind raced, fearing the worst of what was coming next. Starting to sniffle and hold back tears, she expected his next words to signify his breaking up with her.
Time slowed down as Pikachu steeled his nerves, took her right paw and got on his knee. Buneary's eyes went wide.
»I-I love you Buneary. Will you…« Pikachu stammered before letting it out. »Will you be my mate?« He asked her.
Buneary's eyes went even wider, if that was at all possible, from sheer shock. A few moments passed and Pikachu started to panic upon seeing no response from her until she started squealing.
»YES!« She exclaimed before tackling him in to a hug, her body lying on top of his. Buneary started crying and buried her head in to his chest, letting all of her emotions out as Pikachu rubbed the top of her head.
He lifted her head off his now wettened chest and wiped off her tears before hugging her and leaned in closer. »I promise we'll be together again.« He whispered in to her ear before he kissed her.
As Pikachu traveled through the middle of the ocean the next day, the only thing on his mind was that silly bunny and he knew that they would see each other again, if Arceus be damned.
Roll was fast asleep, happily snoring away. Mimi noticed that she fell asleep in the middle of recalling their first date. While Mimi herself was tired, she wasn't exactly asleep.
»Ahh, so that's where I came from.« She teased as her parents chuckled.
»Actually, it was after that.« Buneary giggled and glanced at Pikachu who also laughed, remembering that faithful day in Unova.
»You should get some sleep too Mimi, long day ahead of us tomorrow.« Pikachu said as he planned on them spending the next day training.
Mimi rolled on her other side and closed her eyes. »Yeah, yeah, I know… night Mom and Dad…« She said with a yawn.
Buneary giggled at her little sass. »Goodnight sweetie.« She said and with that, they left the room to head off to bed themselves.
Mimi sighed. From all these stories and how much she already knew, she could tell what they are going to do when they get to bed...and it's not falling asleep.
Mimi chuckled to herself. Her mom and dad really loved each other a lot so she joked to herself that she might get another younger sibling if they kept at it.
Not long after thinking that, the shiny buneary was consumed by sleep.
