Chapter 12: When Wedding Bells Thaw
One morning, in the Tree Fort, Rachel was playing "Dies Irae" by Mozart with her viola while, as Jake, Mille, and Callie listened with awe, Finn was listening with a glazed expression and his mouth wide open. Puzzled, if not worried, Rachel looked up and stopped playing.
"Are you okay, Finn?", Rachel asked.
"Yeah, why?", Finn asked.
"You were looking bored. Just now.", Rachel responded.
"Naw, that's just how I look when I'm listening to music.", Finn responded.
"Well, that's... kind of a weird reaction, don't you think?", Rachel asked.
Suddenly, they heard a knock at the door.
"Someone's downstairs.", Jake said.
"I'll take a look.", Rachel assured, heading downstairs with Finn and the others following her.
"Who do you think it is?", Mille asked as they walked to the door.
"Could be anybody.", Callie replied.
"That's strange... I can't quite make it out, but... it looks familiar.", Rachel said.
All of a sudden, Ice King turned his head with a surprised shout.
"Ahh! It's my Dad, the Ice King!", Rachel squealed excitedly.
"The Ice King?!", Finn and Jake shouted at the same time.
"The Ice King?!", Mille and Callie reacted next before they all squealed excitedly.
"He must've come to tell us the news! Okay, okay, guys. Calm down. And play it cool.", Rachel grinned.
"Think this is the right address, mmm is this, is this...", Ice King began, taking his note from his beard.
Just then, Rachel opened the door.
"Hi.", Rachel greeted.
"Wow, Rae-Rae? That's where your friends live? That's crazy sick. I'm digging it.", Ice King grinned.
"Thanks...? But, that's not all you came here to talk about, is it?", Rachel asked.
"What? No. I actually came by to tell you guys the good news!", Ice King responded.
"What's the good news?", Finn asked as he and the others walked outside.
"I'm getting married... to Ice Queen Betty!", Ice King replied, making the others gasp in surprise.
"You're getting married?!", Rachel asked in surprise.
"My betrothed is right over there! Hi, honey!", Ice King said, waving to show them Betty, who's currently in a cart with Princess Bubblegum, Marceline (who has a big hat on her head to block out the sunlight, and some penguins.
"Hey, cool guy.", Betty waved.
"I'm a lucky guy. And you were right, Rae-Rae. I didn't even have to kidnap this one! She fell in love with me the moment I slipped on her engagement ring!", Ice King replied as he wiggled his fingers in front of Finn and Jake, disgusting them.
"Eww.", Finn groaned.
"Well, that's great news, Dad!", Rachel grinned.
"And if you want, Rachel, you and your friends could join us for a bachelorette party!", Betty grinned.
"Really? You want us to come with you? You want... me to come with you?", Rachel asked.
"Of course. You've done so much for Simon while I was away. It's only fair that I repay you and catch up on lost time.", Betty responded.
Hearing this, Rachel beamed sweetly.
"Well, if you think so, I guess I should.", Rachel responded.
"That's great, Rachel. You're gonna love our bachelorette party!", Betty grinned as Rachel, Mille, and Callie came along.
Then, the penguins wheeled the ladies away.
"Byeeeee!", Betty waved.
"What's with the bachelorette party?", Jake asked.
"The lady penguins are throwing them one of those 'bachelorette' parties.", Ice King responded.
"This is weird, dude.", Jake commented.
Suspicious, Finn wanted to know something.
"Hmm... if you get married, what about capturing princesses?", Finn asked suspiciously.
"Oh well, no more capturing pretty princesses for this Ice King!", Ice King responded before laughing as Finn and Jake become pleasantly surprised.
"Ohhh... well, fare thee well, Ice King!", Finn grinned.
"Hmm?", Ice King asked.
"Yeah, good luck with ye and thy creepy wedding.", Jake added as he and Finn started walking back to the tree fort.
"We totally support your decision to stop capturing princesses!", Finn said before closing the door to Tree Fort, turning to Jake. "I'm happy for him."
"Now, I kinda wanna go to a party.", Jake said.
Just then, they heard a knock at the door and opened it to see that Ice King is still there as he laughed nervously.
"Sure wish someone would throw me a bachelorette party—oop, I mean, 'man-lorette' party.", Ice King requested coyly.
"But we're busy.", Finn responded.
"If you won't throw me man-lorette party, then I'll never have my last hurrah before buckling down with that battle axe! It'll drive me back to a life of stealing hot princesses! Is that what you want?!", Ice King threatened as he cast two seperate ice spells with one hand holding up floating ice shards and chunks and the other hand holding up snow clouds with a couple of lightning bolts.
"No. No, no, no, no, no.", Jake quickly replied, shaking his hands.
"Dude, we gotta show him a good time and treat him right. Otherwise, he'll go back to imprisoning ladies! I-I can't have that! I—", Finn began, starting to cry, before Jake put his finger over his mouth.
"Shhh, I know. I know that you can't have that. Don't worry.", Jake assured; then, he turned to Ice King. "Alright, let's go party, Ice King."
Ice King giggled from Jake's answer.
Then, the montage began. For Betty's case, she had a bachelorette party with Rachel, Mille, Callie, Marceline, and Bubblegum, all in bikinis for the occasion, at the Water Nymphs' Grotto. There, they were either relaxing in the pool like Marceline, Bubblegum, Mille, and Callie or swimming for fun like Rachel. All the while, Marceline spoke to Betty.
"So..., you must be Betty.", Marceline guessed.
"Yeah. I am. And you must be Marceline.", Betty responded.
"Yeah. I am. Simon and Rae-Rae used to tell me so much about you.", Marceline said.
"He did?", Betty asked.
"Yeah. Before he...", Marceline began before he hesitated.
"Had to leave you and Rachel behind so he doesn't hurt you two?", Betty asked, shocking Marceline, who widened her eyes.
"How did you...?", Marceline began.
"Rachel told me about what she'd been through since I disappeared 1,000 years into the future. So, now, I'm here to make up for that.", Betty replied.
"Catching up with lost time?", Marceline asked.
"Or, at the very least..., getting a new start of my new life.", Betty responded, gesturing to the tiara on her head.
"I'm not sure about catching up on lost time if you've been gone for 1,000 years, but... starting a new life? I can appreciate that.", Marceline grinned.
Betty nodded before standing up.
"Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some family time swimming to do.", Betty spoke before turning to Rachel.
"Hey, Rae-Rae!", Betty shouted, prompting Rachel to turn to her.
"Mom?!", Rachel shouted.
"CANNONBALL!", Betty shouted before splashing in while getting Rachel wet before she resurfaced and laughed, making Rachel laugh with her as everyone else smiled.
Meanwhile, Finn, Jake, and Ice King were at a dance party elsewhere with some Party Bears. A girl bear winked at him and he winked back, prompting Boy Bear to get angry. Ice King used his magic to freeze him, after which Finn slapped the Ice King as punishment.
As for the girls, they were now in Bubblegum's quarters in the Candy Kingdom making dresses. This was Betty's idea as she never did like having to buy a dress. While Rachel had her own dress on, hers appeared to be blue instead of white, Mille's dress was similar to Bubblegum's save for the yellow color, Bubblegum's was pink, and Marceline's was gray with silver sparkles.
The boys are then shown at a bar with Tree People all around them. Ice King sipped his drink but spat it out in disgust at the Tree Person next to him by accident. The guy punched Ice King and the ice wizard used his magic to blow him away. Finn slapped the Ice King as punishment again.
Meanwhile, the girls, now in their dresses save for Callie (who has a bow tie on), were purchasing bouquets of flowers at the Candy Kingdom's flower shop when Betty turned to Bubblegum and Marceline.
"Hey, you two. I got a question for both of you. Do you two wanna be my Wedding Maids? My daughter Rae-Rae's the Maid of Honor. Although, last time, she was the cute little flower girl.", Betty asked.
"Of course we do, Betty.", Bubblegum replied.
"Wouldn't miss it for the world.", Marceline agreed.
Meanwhile, Finn and Jake, in the forest, were now floating down a river on a giant leaf with Ice King swimming by them on a different leaf with no clothes on. They shouted at Ice King as he swam past them. But then, Finn and Jake surprisingly noticed Ice King doing a cannonball next to them, splashing them with water and ending the montage.
Now, back in the grass lands, the Ice King was thrilled.
"Best man-lorette party ever!", Ice King laughed excitedly as he then conjured a snowball, which laughed with him.
After a moment, though, Ice King threw his living snowball at the ground, only for Rachel to catch it, saving it.
"Yoink!", Rachel shouted before she then petted it gently.
"Are you okay, little guy?", Rachel asked to the snowball.
"Hahahaha! Now I'm gonna go get married! Hehehehe! I'm gonna get married!", Ice King spoke excitedly, waving his arms.
"Bye, Ice King! Good luck!", Finn said, walking back toward the Tree Fort.
"Have fun being married, you crazy kids!", Jake added.
"And remember, Dad: no more stealing princesses!", Rachel added.
"Yeah-wait. No more s-stealing princesses? Wow.", Ice King responded, worrying the gang.
"What?!", Finn, Jake, Mille, Callie, Bubblegum, Marceline, Rachel, and Betty shouted.
"I didn't realize I'd have to give up stealing the ladies.", Ice King said as though shocked.
"But you said you were fine with it!", Callie shouted in shock.
"I know what I said, but, y'know how sometimes you say things and you don't really mean them?", Ice King responded.
"WHAT?!", Callie reacted.
"I'm just not sure I wanna get married in such a hurry. What if she's just after my Demonic Wishing Eye and Ghost pouch?", Ice King asked in worry as he pulled his beard back and laughed maniacally.
"What? Are you serious?!", Jake reacted.
"We just took you out partying so that you could feel better about getting hitched!", Finn scolded.
"And to my mo-, er, Betty, too!", Rachel added.
"Maybe I'll just go back to capturing lots of girls. It's what I feel comfortable doing, y'know? Being free, wind at my back, lots of girls, kidnapping 'em, maintaining the status quo, and what-not?", Ice King said.
"Status Quo?!", Bubblegum exclaimed.
"Alright, here comes my double kick!", Finn threatened, starting toward him.
But Jake and Rachel held him back.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, Finn. Cool yourself", Rachel urged.
"We need to get this guy married, remember?", Jake added.
"Yeah, I remember...", Finn sighed.
"Watch. Let big brother handle this.", Jake said, walking to Ice King.
"And me, too.", Rachel added, walking to him just as Jake poked Ice King.
"Well, all right...", Marceline said.
"Hey, Ice King? Don't be nervous. Marriage is the most beautiful thing that could ever happen to a jerk like you.", Jake assured.
"Really? Why?", Ice King asked.
"Because this way, you get to be with the one you love the most every day. How is that not good enough?", Rachel replied quickly.
"My mind is made up—80% sure. No marriage.", Ice King refused.
"Come on, Dad. Remember how you said that you're looking for princesses because you wanted to find the perfect mother for me?", Rachel asked.
"Oh. Yeah. That's right. I did say that.", Ice King blushed sheepishly.
"Yeah. Don't you wanna grow old with somebody? Right? Just like these old swans.", Finn said, pointing to the two old swans.
They were kissing in a nearby pond.
"Bleh, those stinky old swans. Huh?", Ice King puzzled.
Suddenly, the male swan sucked the female one into his mouth and swallowed her. He opened his mouth and the other one poked out its head and laughed.
"What?!", Finn, Jake, Millie, Callie, Rachel, Princess Bubblegum, Marceline, and Betty all shouted.
"Ohhhh, now I get what you guys are trying to tell me! Marriage is a thing that allows me to capture a princess forever and let her live inside of me! Marriage is the most beautiful thing in the world!", Ice King beamed, crying tears of joy.
"Uh, Dad... That's not...", Rachel began while Bubblegum and Marceline were stunned into silence.
Then, Betty spoke up.
"No, that's not right, Ice King. But don't worry. I'll help you understand marriage.", Betty assured.
"Okay. The wedding? Back on! 100%!", Ice King shouted happily before laughing and leaving with a hop, skip, and a jump as Betty followed him.
"Phew!", Finn spoke in relief, wiping off the sweat from his brow.
"That was a close call.", Bubblegum said.
"Yeah, but we're just glad he's actually getting hitched.", Rachel beamed.
"You guys know what that means?", Marceline grinned.
"All that's left is the lousy wedding.", Jake said as he fist bumped Finn.
"I'm weddy for the wedding!", Finn grinned.
Later, while Finn, Jake, and Callie walked to the Ice King's Castle wearing black bow ties, Mille, Princess Bubblegum, and Marceline all walked in with their differently colored dresses, even noticing Gunther playing with the xylophone sticks against the ice while Rachel was playing the piano near the area where Ice King and Betty were to be wed on a snow pyramid with some penguins and a snow priest while the candy citizens and penguins were sitting down.
"Y'know, even though the Ice King was a wad in the past, I'm pretty happy for him.", Finn grinned.
"Totally. They're two wackadoo peas in a wackadoodle pod.", Jake agreed.
"I guess if Betty's happy with him, well...", Bubblegum began.
"I'm just glad he has some company with him.", Marceline added.
"But just the same, this wedding looks lame, man. Be prepared to be bored outta your mind.", Jake warned, shaking Finn a bit and making him laugh.
"Finn, Jake, everyone! You all made it!", Rachel shouted excitedly.
"Rae-Rae!", Finn, Jake, Mille, Callie, Bubblegum, and Marceline shouted excitedly.
"Glad to see you all come. I'm almost ready for the wedding vows.", Ice King grinned.
"So, you sure you can handle this, Betty?", Marceline asked.
"Well, if my daughter was able to put up with 1,000 years of him, I should be able to do that, too. Besides, this way, we all have magic and we'll all be a happy family together.", Betty replied as the flower girl penguin lifted her veil.
"Okay.", Marceline responded with a shrug.
"And it'd be nice to settle down for a little while at least.", Ice King added.
"Well... cool, guys. I'm glad y'all are happy... being crazy together.", Finn responded with a shrug.
"Thank you! Excuse me as we finish preparing for the nuptials. 2, 4, 8, 16, 20, uh—", Ice King began.
"32.", the snowman priest said.
"Yes—32, 64, one hundred and—eh.", Ice King began.
The Wedding began as Rachel played "Here Comes The Bride" on the piano.
"Oh, look at the time, guys! The wedding's starting!", Marceline said, ushering everyone else to their seats before sitting down herself.
Everyone then stood in attendance and looked at the entrance to see Betty, clad in a beautiful white version of her normal Ice Queen outfit, walk down the aisle to her future (and past) husband to be.
"Please be seated." Peppermint Butler said.
Then, everyone sat down as instructed.
"Friends, Family, and Loved Ones, we come together today, in the sight of the divine, and of you as witnesses to join Betty Petrikov and The Ice King, in Holy Matrimony." Peppermint Butler continued.
5 minutes later, Finn and Jake were somewhat struggling to stay awake. And it's a good thing, too, because the best part was just around the corner.
"Ice King, do you wish to have Betty Petrikov to be your lawfully married wife? Will you love her, comfort her, keep her in sickness and in health and forsaking all others, be faithful to her so long as you both shall live?", Peppermint Butler asked.
"Oh, but I do.", ice King responded.
"And Betty Petrikov, do you wish to have Ice King to be your lawfully married husband? Will you love him, comfort him, keep him in sickness and in health and forsaking all others, be faithful to him so long as you both shall live?", Peppermint Butler asked.
As if on cue, Betty felt her hair growing to just below her butt and turning light grey. She softly giggled before her skin became more blue losing its greyish hue.
"I do.", Betty said, tears streaming down her face as the love she has for reliving this moment in her life, now a beautiful fantasy that she had always dreamed of ever since she was a little girl.
"You may now kiss the bride.", Peppermint Butler said before the two then kissed each other on the mouths, earning everyone's praise and cheers while Rachel tearfully, yet happily, played the song on the piano again.
"Oh! We're married, right, snowman?", Ice King asked.
"Yes, it's official.", the Snowman Priest replied.
"It's official!", Finn grinned.
"Definitely better than you kissing Jake's butt earlier, that's for sure!", Bubblegum added.
"What? What's that supposed to—", Ice King began before then realizing what she meant.
"Hey.", Ice King said, giving a playful glare before everyone else laughed.
Only Jake stopped laughing for a bit, though.
"Wait, what the—? What am I laughin' about?", Jake puzzled.
Later, Finn, Jake, Mille, Callie, and Rae-Rae were back at the Tree Fort. At least for now...
"And now everything's back to normal.", Finn sighed before a knock on the door was heard again.
"Well, I wouldn't say everything.", Jake responded.
"Hey, Rae-Rae! We're about to head out for the reception in the Cloud Kingdom!", Betty shouted.
"Coming!", Rachel shouted in response before she, Finn, Jake, Mille, and Callie went back down and opened the door.
"Hey, Dad.", Rachel grinned.
"Hey, hey, hey.", Ice King responded.
"Glad you could come with. The party up there is wild like you wouldn't believe!", Betty grinned.
"Oh, I'm digging that.", Jake grinned before chuckling.
"So, you ready for this, Rae-Rae?", Ice King asked.
Rachel gave a warm grin to him.
"I'm ready for anything.", Rachel responded.
"Well, then, thank you all for choosing Ice King Express. Wa-zaaah!", Ice King shouted as he and Betty flew into the air while he, Betty, and Rachel held Finn, Jake, Mille, and Callie while ascending all the way up to the Cloud Kingdom.
