Chapter 3: A young hero in a Warrior's realm.
Thr group continued on their way, until they reached a fortress.
"Brrr! F-F-Frederick! I'm f-freebing!" said Lissa while gritting her teeth and shaking in the cold.
"Stand beside my horse, milady. She'll shelter you from the wind" said Frederick.
"H-how come no one decided to tell us that it snows this far north?" said Sora.
"I didn't think it would be this cold at this time a year" said Chrom, "guess we picked a bad day to come".
"So, this is the fortress?" said Robin.
"Yes, the Longfort" said Chrom, "it stretches along the border of Ylisse and Regna Ferox".
"The Khans that rule Ferox have grown quite wary of foreigners" said Frederick, "Still, don't mistake a lack of hospitality for open hostility".
"This simply calls for a bit of diplomacy".
"Negotiation's not my strong suit, buit i'll do my best" said Chrom.
"Uh... Don't they teach you diplomacy at noble school?" said Sora, "or did you just fail that topic?".
"Y-you be suprised, actually" said Lissa.
"...What? He actually failed at diplomacy?" asked Sora, really curious about this fact.
"More like anything involving tact" said Lissa, "don't get me wrong, he's a good leader and great talker, but put him in a bartering or to de-escalate a conflict, and he's not so good at it".
"Come now, Lissa. I'm hardly the worst at it" said Chrom.
"Well, lest hope he dosen't offends them by accident" said Robin.
"(Sigh) well, just remember everyone: your actions here reflect back upon Ylisse" said Chrom.
"That especially goes to you, Vaike!" said Lissa.
"Hey!" said Vaike.
"Haha... We're doomed" said Stahl.
"Not if you stop with that attitude" said Sully.
"My, everyone here is certanly quite estaticall today" said Miriel.
"At least no one is in a bad mood" said Sora, "but this is quite the marry band we have here isn't it?".
"Indeed it is" said Chrom, "now then, let us be off".
The group walked along the path, but as they got close to the fort, Frederick stoped them.
"Trouble in the wind, milord: the Feroxi guard are mobilizing" said Frederick.
"What?! Why?" asked Chrom.
"Who can say? But they look ready to let fly at a moment's notice" said Frederick, "we'd best prepare for combat just to be safe".
"Perhaps we ought pool our supplies and select which Shepherds to deploy? Loath as i am to trust him, Robin might offer some valuable insight in this...".
"Indeed, he IS our tactician, after all" said Chrom, "so, Robin? What do you suggest?".
"Hmm, les't see... How about-" said Robin before being interrupted.
"So, um... Am i the only one that thinks that deploying less people is a bad idea?" said Sora.
"Hmm?" said Robin
"What do you mean by that, Sora?" asked Chrom.
"I mean, think about it, whether we like it or not, these guys outnumber us by a lot, so splitting ourselves really dosen't sounds like a good idea" said Sora, "plus, from what i've seen, excluding Frederick here, most of us here aren't really used to real combant yet".
"My, what unexpected insight from you, Sora" said Frederick, "but. What you say is true, we are at a disadvantage in numbers, and most of us aren't accostumed to live combat yet".
"But there is something you failed to consider, leadership. It is difficult to command multiple units at once, especially for just one person, and we wouldn't want to overtax lord Chrom with having to command to many Shepherds, now would we?".
"Come now Frederick, i'm hardly new a leadership" said Chrom.
"He makes a valid point, however" said Robin, "it will be hard for just one person to command a large garrison at once".
"Hmm... Well..." Sora was thinking on a way to command a large group at once, then an idea came to mind, "What if we divide our units in groups commanded by different people?".
"What are you saying?" said Frederick.
"Hmm, what a curious idea" said Robin, "do explain what you mean, Sora".
"It goes like this, one person will be in charge of a part of the units at a time, that way, when time comes for new orders comes, the leaders of either group can come together, discuss a plan of action, and act apon it" said Sora, "plus, if we make it clear who will be in charge of the group of soldiers, we won't have a problem with the chain of command, as the person will go to the commander of the group for orders".
"So, what do you think?" asked Sora, who was met with suprised stares from the three of them, "what?".
"Nothing, it's just... I didn't expect some sound advice like that from you" said Robin, "but thinking about it now, it could work, actually".
"Indeed, this was really interesting to hear" said Chrom, "you never fail to impress, do you Sora?".
"Hehehe... It's nothing really" said Sora while scrashing his head".
"Well, this was an interesting discussion" said Frederick, "but who would we put in charge of each group?".
"Hmm... Well, there's Chrom, obviostly" said Sora, "and who else?... How about Robin himself?".
"Excuse me? I'll be in charge?" asked Robin.
"Well, you are our tactician, plus you're pretty smart, so i think you can make it work as a leader" said Sora.
"Indeed, i can vouch for you in that category, Robin" said Chrom, "i trust that you can do this".
"(Sigh) Well, okay then, i'll do my best in that regard then" said Robin.
"Well, now that that's decided, how will we divide our troops then, Robin?" asked Frederick.
And so it was decided who would go were, and they all marched foward.
The group continued on, until the reached the gates, were they were stoped.
"Halt! Who goes there?!" said the commander.
"In the name of house Ylisse, i seek audience with the Khans!" said Chrom.
"Not another step, my bold lad! I've lancers at the ready!" said the commander.
"Hold, milady! We are not your enemy!" said Frederick, "Exalt Emmeryn herself sent us to discuss matters of mutual interest".
"My only interest is keeping you out of Regna Ferox, brigand!" said the commander.
"B-brigand? Now see here-" said Frederick.
"You think you are the first 'Ylissians' to try and cross our border?" asked the commander, "i have the authority to fell such impostors were they stand".
"How dare you! You are in the presence of Prince Chrom, the exalt's own blood!" said Frederick.
"Ha! Yes, indeed—and i'm the queen of Valm" said the commander sarcaticly, "you do realise impersonating royalty is a capital offense, yes?".
"Hmm... Perhaps we should settle this the Feroxi way. You claim to be the Prince of Ylisse? Then prove it on the battlefield!".
"Rgh... Emmeryn won't like this at all..." said Chrom, "please, good lady! If you'd just listen-".
"I've heard quite enough! Attack!" said the commander.
Multiple armored knights then threw there lances towards Chrom, but just as he was going to be hit, something swoup in and saved him, that something was Sumia riding the pegasus from before.
"Sumia?" said Chrom.
"Better hold on tight captain, could get bumpy" said Sumia.
"...Oh, right" said Chrom.
Sumia then turned to face him and gave him a reasuring smile and sad "you'll be fine".
Chrom looked at Sumia with na enchanted look to his eyes, then he remembered the siuation at hand, he looked on, and say that the knights were preparing for another volley of lances.
"Sumia!" said Chrom as he took out the Falchion, "right!" said Sumia.
She then proceded to land next to teh others and Chrom got off the pegasus.
"Oh, captain, i'm so relieved i made it in time" said Sumia.
"That goes double for me, Sumia!" said Chrom, "and this—is this the same ornery pegasus we met on the road?!".
"Oh, she's a sweetheart, isn't she?" said Sumia, "...Once you really get to know her...".
"Well, many thanks to you both" said Chrom.
"I think the pegasus is blushing!" said Lissa.
"And i thnik wee had best focus on the situation at hand!" said Frederick.
""Chrom, they're coming!" said Robin.
"All right. The Feroxi way it is!" said Chrom, just then, he heard some hit the ground, and when he looked, he saw Sora.
"Well, that takes care of that" said Sora as he looked at Chrom, "glad to see that you're alright, Chrom".
"I'm glad as well, but what were you doing?" asked Chrom.
"Taking care of the guys that tried to skewer you" said Sora.
"But how?" asked Chrom.
"Well..." said Robin as he recounted the events.
Flashback
Everyone looked on as Sumia saved Chrom.
"(Phew) glad that she made it in time" said Sora.
"Indeed" said Robin, then he looked up, "but those knights will be a nuisance for us, especially with how presice their throws are".
"Can't we just shoot them from here?" asked Sora.
"That's not a option, there to high up, the magic we have right now couldn't reach them, and even if Virion's arrows could hit them from down here, they would just bounce of their armor".
"Then what do we do?..." asked Sora.
He looked around the battlefield, then saw the lances that nearly hit Chrom, then na idea came to mind.
"Hey Robin, ever heard of Dragoons?" said Sora as he got prepared.
"Huh? N-no, i don't think i've ever heard of it myself" said Robin confused.
"Well, you're about to one of their defining aspects" said Sora.
Sora then proceded to grab all four lances with his hands, he looked at Robin, gave him a smirk, then proceded to jump high into the air.
The enemy knights were preparing to throw more lances at the pegasus rider, but as they were going to, something came falling from atop them and impalled the far left knight, then proceded to jump back into the air.
"What on earth was that?!" said one of the knights.
Just then, the same thing came down again and impaled another knight, then went back into the air.
"Oh crap, run!" said one of the knights, but as he proceded to run away, the thing fell on him and went back into the air.
The last knight posicioned his shield up to stop whatever was killing them, he saw the thing falling down on top of him, when it made contact with his shield, he pushed it off and tried to hit it, but he missed and the thing, wich turned out to be a kid, impaled him, killing him in the prosses.
As Sora finished of the last knight, he looked around him and cosidered to finish the rest off himself, something in his mind told him not to show off.
"Wait, world... Border?" he thought.
He didn't know what it was, but something was telling him that, unless it's an emergency, he shouldn't show off his skills in front of everyone else, less they ask him questions he dosen't have awnsers for.
"Well, Frederick already has trust issues with me because of my abilities, so it's best that i don't push my luck" he thought, "plus, i did say that i wasn't going to go out on my own again".
And with that, he leapt down from the wall and joined the others.
End flashback
"And that's what happened" said Sora, finishing his explanation.
"Well... That sure was something" said Chrom.
"You said Dragoons do that?" asked Robin.
"Yeah, i read it in a book once, they are these guys that are trained to put a lot of force into their feet to jump really high and drop down on their enemies".
"What kind of books do you read?" asked Robin.
"And were can i get some?!" said Lissa, "cause that just awesome!".
"Indeed, it is quite the ability" said Frederick, "and i don't suppose you could demonstrate it again for us?".
"Well... I can't" said Sora, confusing everyone, "you see, the thing is that, Dragoons also wear special armor, specifically the boots, that allow them the wistand the force of the jump".
"So... You can't do it again because your legs hurts?" aske Lissa.
"Yup. Plus, i never got the form down, i just imitated what i've seen other people do" said Sora.
"You just 'imitated' jumping high into the air and crashing down on someone" said Robin is disbelief, "... Again, you're just full of suprises".
"Indeed" said Frederick, "but, i believe it would be best if we return to the battle at hand".
"Verry well then" said Chrom.
And so the battle began.
Hey eveyone, back with another one.
And since i have everyone here, what do you think about the story so far? Have any questions? Suggestions? Or do you just want to talk? Let me know in the reviews
So the group reached the border, and what do they find? Another battle, of course.
Anyway, see you next time.
