So, it's been like two weeks. My bad. I've been caught up on essays for English class and what not. I finished a 5 page essay that was supposed to be due today but got postponed. I've also got interest in Attack on Titan. Anyways without further ado I present Chapter 10! Please read the bottom for updates on the story.
Chapter 10: D Rank Disasters!
place: Konoha
time: 6:30am Tuesday
Sasuke woke up sweating and in a panic. 'Did I really see him last night? Or was it a dream?' Sasuke thought to himself. "No, it was a dream. He couldn't get pass the guards or the Hokage himself, right?" He tried to convince himself. Sasuke got up and took a shower quickly.
After his shower he made his breakfast and checked the time. "Only 7am huh? I still got an hour before we have to meet Kakashi at Training Ground 7." He spoke. He ate his scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast with some orange juice. Once he finished he took his water balloons out to practice some more to be picture perfect when Jiraiya came around. He did that until fifteen minutes before he had to leave.
He left his house and made it to Training Ground 7 to see Naruto sitting peacefully. 'He's mediating?' And Sasuke thinks. "What are you doing Naruto?" He questioned our dirty blonde MC. Naruto didn't respond leaving Sasuke irritated. "Naruto, why are you mediating?" He question yet again. No response. Sasuke took out a basic storage seal which Naruto taught him how to use and took a water balloon out and threw it at him.
"Hey, what the hell duck butt?!" Naruto yelled out loud. Sasuke now stood proudly wearing his new signature smirk on his face.
"I asked what are you doing?" Sasuke repeated again. Naruto looked at him and realize he was spaced out in his mediation.
"Oh, I was, umm, mediating." Naruto said scratching the back of his head. Sasuke looked at him, narrowing his eyes.
"Yes, that much was obvious. I was curious as to the why part." Sasuke said. It was then that Sakura arrived.
"Hey guys, what's going on?" She asked in a peachy mood. Naruto and Sasuke, however, we're still looking at each other. "Guys?" She asked.
"Naruto was just mediating for some reason." Sasuke told the pinkette. Naruto kept his gaze on Sasuke as he did too.
"Why was You mediating Naruto?" She asked. Naruto looked at her.
"I was just trying to see if I could pull my inner strength out." Naruto said in a jokingly manner. He was in actuality trying to make contact with the Nine Tails. Unfortunately, the fox didn't feel like introducing himself at this time. Sasuke let up and Sakura said oh. "Where's Kakashi-sensei?" Naruto asked his teammates.
"Right here." He said as he appeared in front of his team, "Yesterday was a bit of a success." Kakashi stated.
"No it wasn't! It was just a bunch of mundane tasks!" Naruto shouted.
"Yeah he's right." Sasuke agreed.
Kakashi thought back to yesterday.
Flashback start
Place: Konoha
Time: Yesterday mid day
"Kakashi-Sensei! This sucks!" Naruto said as he was painting a fence. Sasuke huffed and Sakura agreed with her blonde teammate. Kakashi was still just reading his book while his soldiers were at work.
"Hmm, you said something?" Kakashi asked nonchalantly. Naruto turned red at this question.
"I said this sucks! When are we going to get a real mission Sensei!?" Naruto asked. Sasuke was actively listening to see if he would also find out.
"Well, when a Genin cell is made, it takes roughly two months or 180 D ranks before they take on a C Rank. If you guys wish to do a C Rank then you must do as many D ranks in one day. However, the Hokage still has to pas out D ranks to about 30 other Genin squads who are still in rotation." Kakashi explained. (A/n: I have no clue how many d ranks or how long they have until they get a c rank. But we just gonna roll with this.)
'Dammit.' Sasuke thought to himself. 'How am I ever going to gain the strength I need to kill him if I'm stuck painting fences!?' Sasuke looked at Naruto, "Say, don't you have a technique that makes multiple losers at a time that can help us?" Sasuke asked.
"Oh yeah that's right! I have the Shad-" Naruto was interrupted by Kakashi.
"You have to do this without Shadow Clones. You cannot always really on Naruto's shadow clones. While a useful tool for reconnaissance or a distraction tool, you can't always use them to accomplish your goals." Kakashi lectured. "Do you guys know the point in doing D Rank missions?" He asked his squad. They all shook their heads no. "Well, it's to prepare you to go out of the village for C Ranks. Delivering groceries? That's a high level VIP escort mission, easily B or A rank. Catching the Fire Daimyo's Wife's cat? That's search and capture. You see each of these "minute tasks" you are complaining about helps you guys get the idea of what to do on a real mission." Team Seven all nodded at Kakashi's wise words.
"Well, why aren't you helping us then?" Sakura asked. Kakashi gave the girl an eye smile.
"Well Sakura, I did my fair share of D Ranks when I was a Genin. I wasn't placed on a genin cell until 2 years after I became a Genin. That and this is beneath me." Kakashi explained.
"Ah Ha! See even you hate these so called missions Kakashi-Sensei!" Naruto said while pointing at the man.
"Hmm, you said something Naruto?" Kakashi asked. The three Genin groaned. They continued painting the fence for another hour. Afterwards they completed 5 more d ranks.
Flashback end
"You know, you three were supposed to be some of the top Genin of this year's batch. I already explained why we do D ranks." Kakashi stated.
"We want to do a real a mission," Sasuke said. Naruto nodded.
"Alright, I'll make you a deal. If you can capture Tora the cat, I'll tell Lord Hokage we are ready for a C Rank bu-" Kakashi was cut off.
"That'll be easy!" Naruto said. Kakashi groaned.
"Naruto, let me fully explain the requirements." Kakashi lectured. Naruto sheepishly apologized. "Anyways, you must break the old record of capturing Tora. The official time is 6 minutes and 26 seconds. The time starts after we leave the Hokage's tower. The time ends once the cat has been brought back to Lord Hokage." Kakashi explained. "Also, we can't always get that mission. I think we will get that mission at least twice a week. So you'll have to make the most of it each time." Kakashi added. The three Genin gulped.
Naruto had heard the rumors surrounding the notorious cat some time last year. The cat would constantly escape its owner's home and she would request the mission for someone to retrieve the animal. 'Well, maybe I could test out my new locator seal.' Naruto thought to himself. Danzo had given Naruto another sealing book. This one was perhaps the hardest in Naruto's opinion. The book was theories and some modified fuinjutsu to work a little differently. Naruto discovered that this book was far harder than the others.
"Well, Kakashi-Sensei can we use Jutsus on Tora?" Sakura asked for the two boys. Naruto and Sasuke looked at Sakura like she was insane.
"Nothing more than a Genjutsu." Kakashi answered. The three Genin were a little upset at this news, as none of them knew genjutsu like that. "Besides, we won't be getting that mission until later this week." Kakashi added.
A Few Hours Later
The Fence was double coated in paint and looked fantastic. Team 7 looked particularly proud at their work. "Good job guys." Kakashi complimented them. "Now we gotta destroy the fence." He added. The three Genin did a double take at his words.
"Why did we paint it then?" Naruto asked.
"Oh that? I just felt like you guys needed some bonding. Our mission is to destroy the fence as this home is for sale and the buyer hired us to take the fence down." Kakashi said with an eye smile.
"Please say Sike right now." Sasuke said.
"Hmm, no. Let's get to it guys. It's already almost Two PM." Kakashi stated. The three Genin took down the fence about an hour later.
"Remind me to kill Kakashi-Sensei once I get the necessary strength to do so." Sasuke told Naruto.
"I'll probably do it before you." Naruto added. Sakura didn't want the man dead, but she wouldn't mind seeing him hurt for a little bit.
'I mean seriously. What's wrong with that man? He really made us paint the fence in two coats and then told us to tear it down. Gah!' Sakura thought to herself.
The three Genin made their way to their Jonin Sensei. "Congratulations guys. You guys look exhausted. So, I'll leave it up to you. Do you want to do another mission or do you want to go home?" Kakashi asked.
"Home." All three said in unison.
Kakashi gave them another eye smile. "I figured you guys wanted to do actual missions. I guess I was mistaken." Kakashi taunted.
"No! We will take another mission!" Sasuke shouted. 'My resolve has to be absolute. I must get stronger!'
"Yeah, I agree with duckbutt over here." Naruto said in agreement. The two boys and the leader looked at Sakura.
"I guess another mission wouldn't hurt." She sheepishly said. Truthfully be said, she was exhausted from painting the fence.
"Hmm, alright then. Let's go get another mission." Kakashi spoke.
Team Seven walked all the way to the mission's hall. When they walked in, they seen their old academy teacher, Iruka, handing out the missions.
Iruka seen the team and smiled. "Hey guys, how was that fence?" He asked in a joking manner. He knew Naruto and Sasuke would love to do a better mission. "It just so happens I have a mission here to test your team's skill. So what do you say? What to catch Tora the cat?" He asked.
The two boys' eyes lit up with enthusiasm. "YES!" Naruto shouted.
"Wow. I don't think I've ever seen someone wanting to catch that cat like this before." Iruka stated.
"Well, I offered them a deal. If they could catch the Fire Daimyo's wife's cat, I'd let them take a higher ranked mission." Kakashi informed the man.
Iruka nodded. He knew how hard it really was to catch that cat.
"Yeah, we are gonna set that record and get a C rank mission in no time now!" Naruto spoke has he hastily grabbed the contract.
The team left the building and Kakashi informed them of the cat's appearance. "So, now that you know what the cat looks like, I'll let you guys move ahead to capture the cat." Kakashi stated. "Here take these earpieces and use them to communicate with me and your squad mates. Your time starts when the earpieces are in." The lazy nin said.
The trio accepted the earpieces and started to hunt the cat down. They had 6:26 minutes to get the cat and bring it back to the Mission hall.
Sasuke looked at Naruto. "Naruto, make 30 shadow clones and have them look for the cat. I'll go with 10 of them, Sakura will take another 10, and that will leave you with 10." Sasuke ordered. He pulled a map of Konoha out as Naruto made the clones. "Okay, we will divide Konoha into three sections. We will have our own sections to search. The moment you find the cat, radio us over so that way the other two and 40 Narutos can meet up and grab it." Sasuke added.
The two other Genin nodded and set out with their teams of Narutos.
With Naruto's team
"Alright guys, Sasuke put us in this area to find the cat. We shall move as a unit searching alleys, small spots, and anything that little furry bastard could be hiding. I will be focusing on finishing the locator seal to slap on that cat should we run out a time. We have roughly 4 minutes now. Spread out and go!" The original Naruto ordered.
The 20 Naruto's headed in various directions. Each one spread out and searched multiple alleys and garbage cans.
The Original Naruto was working on a locator seal. "Alright, so from the past two times I worked on it, I achieved the results close to what I wanted. I was able to feel the seal but not no where it is. And the second time I couldn't feel the seal but knew more or less the general area it was at." Naruto told himself. "I don't even know why that geezer has me trying to master this. I mean yeah it's cool I could locate certain people or items and what not, but I still got to touch them first." Naruto complained. He went off to try the seal again.
With Sasuke's team
"Did you idiots find anything?" Sasuke asked one of the many Naruto's.
"No, we searched everything. I don't think that cat is in this section you picked." The Naruto clone said.
"Alright. Disperse yourselves and I'll meet up with Sakura." Sasuke ordered.
The clones complied with the request. Sasuke went on to join Sakura. "Sakura come in." He radioed.
"I hear you loud and clear Sasuke." Sakura immediately replied.
"Have you had any luck?" The raven hair boy asked.
"Not yet. I assume you haven't then either?" Sakura asked.
"Yeah. What's your location? I'll join you on your section." Sasuke inquired.
"I'm near the library. I'll send the Naruto clones ahead and wait for you here." She responded.
"Copy. I'll be there in a minute." Sasuke said as the radio went quiet.
With Kakashi
"I wonder if their going to find that cat. They only have a minute and forty three seconds." Kakashi spoke.
"Meow." Kakashi heard from below the tree he was in.
The man looked down and seen the cat his team was looking for. "How about that." He spoke. "My team is looking for you." Kakashi said to the cat.
The cat climbed up the tree and snuggled into Kakashi. "Oh well, guess it can't be helped." He said with an eye smile.
Back with Naruto
"Boss, we have checked everywhere. There's no sign of that cat. I did find a few cats but none we was looking for." The clone stated.
"Crap. We only have like two minutes left." The Original Naruto said.
"Did you finish the locator seal?" The clone asked.
"No, Sakura and Sasuke's conversation ruined any momentum I was having." The original spoke. "Disperse yourselves and I'll meet up with Sakura and Sasuke." He ordered.
The clones dispersed and Naruto ran along the roof tops to find his teammates.
After five minutes of running on roof tops, Naruto found his teammates.
"Naruto? Did you find that cat?" Sasuke asked.
"No, and I'm the original." Naruto stated.
"Darn. We are out of time now too." Sakura said. The three were disappointed.
The all heard something from the radio. "Hey, meet me at the Mission hall. Tora was found by me." Kakashi spoke.
"Hai!" All three Genin spoke through their radio. A bunch of smoke was made as the clones dispersed.
After two full minutes of running, Team 7 made it to Kakashi.
"Well, I found this cat about 10 minutes ago or so. Why is it that you didn't find Tora?" Kakashi asked.
"I had just let my clones look. I was too busy training on a seal. I take the responsibility Sensei." Naruto said.
"No, I ordered the team, I should be the one responsible." Sasuke said.
"That's nice you feel that way, but this is what I was trying to tell you guys. You want to jump into a dangerous mission, but can't even find a cat. What if our mission was to find comrades? Or a treasure for the client?" Kakashi asked.
The three Genin remained quiet.
"Tomorow, we will have a training day. No missions. Now let's deliver this cat." Kakashi said. The four members walked inside.
Alright, I'm entering exam period pretty soon and because of this, I'll be updating the story every two weeks now. So example: the next chapter is slated to release on April 9th, after that would be April 23rd. The chapters will also be a little longer than these ones are. Each of these chapters typically go for around 2,800-3,700 words. They will now be 5,000 words. Weekly updates probably won't return either as I plan on starting another story in June, while I'm making this one. So my apologies for the quietness these past two weeks, but I'm back. Currently Ino is leading strong, surprising Sakura isn't as high up as I thought she'd be. Naruto is a selfless guy. Plus with Tsunade and Sakura being there, they would make sure the blonde knucklehead is not a man whore. Anyways, some stories do make it work wonderfully. I really wish I remembered the story but basically it went something like Tsunade being forced to put Naruto under the Clan Restoration Act(CRA) (also this is Fannon{fannon- Fanfiction Canon, meaning it makes a lot of sense for the verse, but it's not truly in the story}). Anyways she tells Naruto to find and pick out the women. I believe he picks Hinata, Mei, I think Fuu and Yugito Nii. If anyone knows what story I'm talking about drop it in the reviews please. Also this locator seal is playing into Naruto learning the Flying Thunder God technique.
