CHAPTER ONE
It was late at night, the moon high in the sky while I typed quickly on my laptop, tapping away at the keys as I finished the chapter to my story I have been working on, I closed my laptop. I looked around my room, there was my book shelf, with countless books about dragons, I then looked at my desk, which had my monitor and gaming pc on. "Damn, what a boring day, better turn in for the night" Rolling over onto my side, I looked out of my bedroom window, glancing at the clear sky, the countless stars twinkling as a soft gentle breeze blew into my room. Tightening the covers around myself, I let out a yawn as my eyelids became heavy, slowly sleep took me hostage.
While I slept, a slight more powerful breeze blew into my room, 10 dragon spirits hovered over my form, the lead female, an Icewing, gazed at me as she spoke. "You are our chosen protector of Pyrrhia and Pantala, you will fall from the stars as a ball of flame and become a dragon of every tribe, we spirits will watch over you, guide you, assist you".
With that she and the other spirits, whom were of each tribe drew out a symbol above my body, writing out a new name for me, one I had no clue of yet.
At jade mountain, a Sandwing was in the midst of chatting with an Icewing, his tail swishing side to side while he paced back and forth, a cheerful expression upon his face.
"Winter, come on buddy, at least watch the stars with us!" Qibli insisted as he made his way behind the male Icewing, his barbed tail swishing behind him, the poisonous barb curled up as to not accidentally sting someone.
"Ugh, are all you sand-snorters this persistent, can't you see I'm busy" Winter growled, his tail lashing behind him while he moved scrolls around, scrolls mostly about his work on scavengers.
"Yes yes, you Always have your snout in your work, just at least for one night?" Qibli moved around to Winter's side, giving the Icewing a pleading look, which made the Icewing royal to droop his wings, a tired sigh leaving him before he huffed out.
Winter, continued to scribble upon a scroll he had, running his ink covered talon across it, he listened to his Sandwing friend continue to ramble on how the nightsky was lovely tonight, and how all his friends were there, feeling his walls crumble, Winter stopped writing, dipped his talon in a cup of water to clean it off and turned to Qibli.
"Fine, but Only for tonight, not tomorrow or any other night" Turning on the spot, his talons clicking against the smooth stone floor while Qibli made a claw pump. "Yes, I knew you couldn't deny me haha!" Winter let a soft, faint chuckle leave him, one for awhile for he had been glued on his work, even to the point of missing sleep on some days.
He followed the Sandwing who he considered his friend outside, looking up at the clear nightsky as a beautiful rain of shooting stars flew over the dark sky.
"It's so beautiful!" Fatespeaker gasped, watching the countless streaks of light fly over head, she and the dragonets of destiny were curled around next to each other as they all looked up at the nightsky, seeing all the twinkling stars.
"Winter, hey, get your icy butt over here!" Kinkajou giggled, she was with the jade winglet while they and the large cluster of dragons were either curled or sat up, enjoying a nice meal, drink or just watching the nightsky.
"I see you finally ripped him from his work, Good job darling" Moonwatcher nuzzled Qibli, which unknowingly to them had caused Winter to glare daggers at them, though he composed himself, shoving it behind a wall of ice before sitting down, looking tired and annoyed.
"Oh do lighten up snow cake" kinkajou giggled out, leaning against the larger Icewing who let out a snort of frost breath, his tail swishing behind him while he gently move the over excited Rainwing over.
From the darkness of space, a rather large asteroid which carried an unknown cargo tumbled gracefully through space, bits of the asteroid continuously breaking off as it made its way past the furthest moon, the proximity to the outer most moon pulled chunks from it, the asteroid rotates slowly as chunks of it split away, glowing cracks span over the entire surface of it while it slowly changed it's velocity; picking up speed as it fell towards the dragon planet. As it hit the outer most layer of the atmosphere, it started to slowly turn into a fireball while large chunks that split from it burnt up in the night sky.
"Look, look, Hey Moony, make a wish!" Kinkajou gasped as a rather bright meteor shot through the sky. Moon closed her eyes and wished that Winter would stop hating them.
"What did you wish for, What did you wish for!" Kinkajou cried out, eyes wide with curiosity while Winter stared into the large flames of the camp fire.
Moon was about to speak though when she glanced over at Winter, she saw him glaring at her with his normal icy stare. "I-I'll tell you later" she spoke after a few second, looking down as she felt the Icewings gaze burn into her very soul.
[Winter...I...I know you hate me for picking Qibli, b.. but surely you understand why]. She spoke to him within his mind, this caused the young male Icewing to raise his head regally, letting a snort out as he stood up, opening his mouth to shout at her when suddenly a loud booming sound echoed through the night sky.
The same large meteor that came from outer space was passing through the sky, smaller meteors burnt up in the sky before they reached the ground, countless little meteorites filled the night sky while all the dragons looked up at the light show.
"Hey guys, look!" Exclaimed Kinkajou as she and all the dragons watched on with awe and wonder, watching the large fireball fly down from the stars, ripping through the sky as it grew closer to the ground, leaving a trail of thick smoke and fire behind it.
Winter looked on with interest, narrowing his eyes after he had joined the rest of the dragons, night had turned to day just from the burning light from the meteor. "I-its going to hit, isn't it" turtle asked, the flaming ball screamed over the forest before slamming into a large pillar of stone, destroying part of it before impacting the ground.
All the dragons looked on, looks of wonder and shock covered their faces as Qibli was the first to pipe up. "Come on, let's go and see what crashed down!". The Sandwing snapped his wings open, jumping from the cliff and taking flight towards the charred and burning part of the forest where the object had landed.
"Moon, I still have a grudge against you, though I don't hate you, nor do I wish for any ill will to come to you or Qibli, though perhaps it's best if you keep an eye on your boyfriend" Winter huffed at Moon, causing the Nightwing to nod while she looked up at him, he then snapped his own wings open and followed Kinkajou and Qibli. One after another took off from their camping site, until all the dragons were flying towards the crash site.
Qibli was the first to land, his landing being rather heavy as the rest of the group soon joined him, Peril furled her wings against her sides after landing, before making her way past Qibli towards where the crater was.
She around at the charred and scorched landscape in front of her, slowly they began to move through the destruction, Peril was out in front, her paws stepping on broken branches and leaves.
"What...did this" Moon asked, with Kinkajou hearing as she replied. "The sky rock silly!"
Winter let out a groan as he rolled his eyes, making his way across the rather, icy cold ground. "Hang on, the leaves are on fire, yet the ground is freezing?" Fatespeaker quizzically said softly, not understanding what was going on as Winter then called out.
"What was that" He spoke as a tree fell over, crashing onto the ground only to then slip down into the crater, kicking dust up as large flames engulfed the fallen tree, Moon and Qibli rushed over as soon as they heard their friend's voice, their talons clicking against the ground while keeping their wings tucked against their sides. "What is it Winter?" Moon asked as she stopped beside the Icewing prince, overlooking the large crater that laid before them, the walls of the crater were shiny, as if the very ground was frozen solid.
Beyond the large flames, Winter narrowed his eyes slightly, looking at the large tree that had fallen down into the crater, he leaned slightly forwards, bits of rock falling down the walls of the crater where they landed at the bottom. Seeing that he had to investigate more, Winter used his serrated claws to dig into the frozen ground, climbing down into the crater while the rest of the dragons watched from the edge of the crater, Qibli looked down at where Winter had slipped down, shouting out towards where the Icewing was.
"What do you see down there bud!" The Sandwing dug his forepaw talons into the edge of the crater while moon and Kinkajou looked around the area. Turtle moved up to a destroyed tree, reaching a forepaw up where he then gripped it, the branch broke off as he then dropped it, he looked at the palm of his paw, it didn't feel hot, it felt... cold.
Winter had by now reach the bottom of the crater, his wings tucked against his wides while he glanced around, what seemed like steam rose from a large oval shaped object, cocking his head slightly, the young Prince made his way closer, Qibli and Moon watched on while Kinkajou and turtle looked around at the area.
"what are you?" Winter questioned, mumbling softly as he placed his forepaws upon the object slowly, once his paws made contact with the smooth surface he let out a gasp, almost falling backwards as he felt it was cold, Very cold. "What is it buddy!" Qibli called out, causing the Icewing to glance backwards and up at where his friends were.
"It's freezing cold, like snow but colder!" he said to them, then glanced back towards where the object was, the spikes along his neck stood on end, though slowly began to lay back down while he made his way back to the centre of the crater, he placed his forepaws upon the shiny surface once again, this time braced himself for the chilling cold, his tail swished in a regal manner behind him; studying the smooth cold surface, he cocked his head slightly to the side, a curious expression upon his face.
Though he stopped himself for exploring anymore, it was late and so this would have to wait until tomorrow, he moved away from it, though not before he grabbed his trusty scroll, he placed it down in front of him and started to draw what the object looked like.
Qibli and the others were waiting on the edge of the crater, looking around or at the crater itself, waiting for Winter to come back up, though after around fifteen minutes, the Icewing flew back up, landing upon the ground beside his friends, with his scroll in paw as he then said. "It's best if we head to bed for the night, I'm not sure what it is, but it's not hot, it's freezing cold... even for an Icewing it's cold". Winter shook his head, a confused expression covering his facial features while Qibli made his way over to ask something, though from the stare that Winter gave, decided against it.
"Alright, Moon, you coming?" The Sandwing questioned, turning his gaze to Moonwatcher while opening his wings, flapping them a few times before he flew up into the sky and made his way back towards where they were originally, Turtle Peril and Kinkajou followed behind as Moon and Winter soon then followed.
Though just as Winter was about to leave the sound of something moving within the crater made him halt, he turned back around only to move back to the edge of the crater, peering down into it once again, he notice the large oval like object in the center seemed to he covered in patterns which appeared to be engravings that were etched all over its surface, the surface started to shift and move, the surface seemed to be made up of countless small scale like parts as the oval object opened up in front of his very eyes.
Suddenly a long reptilian arm rose out from the dense foggy air, gripping onto the same large tree that had fallen in, it was covered in bland boring silver scales, instead of fleeing Winter remained still as what rose out of what must of been a capsule was a bipedal reptilian creature, he noticed it had all the features of a dragon, yet stood alot more like a scavenger, or humans, which were their real names.
The bipedal dragon raised his head and looked at Winter, seemingly glancing over the Icewing prince, suddenly a bright light flashed as two peaks of blue light scanned over Winter's body, Winter gasped out, stumbling backwards slightly before noticing the creature climbed up the walls of the crater and dashed away.
Winter felt the need to answer more questions which now flooded his mind, though decided against it as he turned back around before taking to the air, shaking his head while he gripped onto the scroll within his paw as he returned to jade mountain.
"What was that? Who was that?" Winter questioned himself as he after flying for a few minutes, landed quietly at the entrance of the school.
"And where have you been Prince Winter" Tsunami let out a snort, she was the principal of the academy, and right now seemed unhappy that the jade winglet wasn't asleep like the rest of the school.
"I was enjoying a peacful time in the cool air" The prince spoke, keeping his head up in a regal pose as he passed the teachers, making his way back to the jade winglet cave, when he made his way inside, he found Kinkajou, turtle, moon, Peril and Qibli all asleep, or pretending to be asleep as he took his spot on his bed, laying his head down as he placed his scroll beside him out of the sight of everyone else.
